When I walked in to see Ken, he was immediately rude and condescending -- not just once, but throughout the entire interaction. It honestly shocked me how unprofessional and disrespectful he was. I've bought and sold with him before and even recommended him to others, but after this experience, I regret doing so. This will be the last time I give him my business. If he thinks treating customers this way is acceptable, I can only imagine how he treats his employees behind the scenes. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through the same thing. Went to purchase some coins for Christmas on this day the 23rd of December 2025. When I arrived I realized that the business was helping customers in a controlled manner, only letting one or two people in at a time. I waited about 5 minutes before an individual came out and stated that it would "be just a few minutes before someone would be out" to help me. A few moments later, 3 more parties showed up and now we were all waiting to be serviced. A male came out and asked who came first. I raised my hand. Then he asked who was second and third and so on. After getting the order, he asked again, who was first. I again said "ME". At that point, he called on the second person to come in for him to help! At this point, I just made a face like "what the *uck?" Everyone left in the waiting area just looked at me like "oh shit"! That's when I packed my shit and walked the fuck out of there! I never experienced racism and maybe this was not it as well. But I could not help to noticed that I was the only BROWN person there! I could be wrong and I would definitely give them the benefit of the doubt but I'd be lying if I didnt feel a bit of it at that time. read more

It is very highly rated with a well-earned reputation in the community. I found myself in a difficult spot on a weekend after breaking my leg, while moving (by myself) and, of course, losing my wallet. I had no cash or cards to buy food or gas and was in a horrible position. I did have a couple of 1 ounce, silver coins that i found while moving. "I need cash, so let's see where I can sell these," I thought to myself. Anyway, long story, short; all the other coin shops were marked closed online or too far to get to with what gas I did have left (less than a gallon). One looked like an online business only because it was marked open 24 hours a day ... that was my clue. But I called anyway. Ken, the owner, answered right away. I asked if they would buy them, and he said that they only buy coins on Monday - Friday. Thinking, that was that, I thanked him then said in passing "darn, I really needed some cash to buy gas with. I'll see you on Monday then." That's when he said to me, "When could you be here by?" I told him 20 minutes he said he'd still be there anyway, so come on by and he'll make an exception. I never even told him my sob story about all my bad "breaks" lately. From my "broken" leg or about being financially "broke," as well as having to move, etc. That to me said it all! He did it merely out of kindness and in spirit for our shared community. A quality owner who cares and offers fair and accurate pricing with a love of community. I highly recommend this place. Bought some coins in BULK on the online Auction. I have been bidding and buying here for a while and all was good until now. The bulk item was suppose to ship in 2-4 weeks from the auction. It's now been 6 weeks and no shipping notice. My advice: Do not buy the bulk items that they do not have in stock. Stick with items that ship immediately. read more

They seemed friendly enough and gave me a great price when I sold them some high-value coins earlier this year. But the owner was really pushing for me to write a good review and I didn't like that. After that first transaction, I got the feeling that they were playing with me. This could be the nature of the business as I'm sure they get a lot of sketchy customers--but I didn't like the treatment I got. Lucky for me, there is another coin vendor in town and you can easily compare prices with them. (Go into the store--DON'T do it via phone) I got about 12% more from Liberty C&C on my sale and took that offer. I also bought some nice walking Liberty dollars from them too at a very fair price--so I'm happy with them so far. Summary: compare between stores, and don't believe in these review sites. read more

I went in to ask about the value of some old coins I have. The bald guy wouldn't even look at them, he just tossed them straight back at me and said they were'nt worth anything. He didnt even remove them from the tube or baggies. He was extremely rude too boot! i will never go there again and I do not recommend anybody else go there either. He was super nice about everything, though. He called the owner in to help, on a Saturday 30 minutes before closing, and he came in! We talked for 10 minutes and he made two suggestions that were perfect for my budget. It wasn't a bunch of money +/-$1K, but the service was great. He understood what I was trying to buy. My wife was calling to get pricing for us to sell our silver coins. He said " I'll pay you more than anyone in Washington". They closed at 5 and I couldn't make it there till 5:15. He offered to wait for me! Upon arrival we looked at the spot price, he asked what the Liberty offered me. He then proceeded to offer more than Liberty, and He went over spot price! That's not it! I show up to buy a diamond. He insisted I show him my money before I did business with him. Insisting also that the area was so dangerous they had to be security conscious. So I show him. The diamond wasn't even real. After I affirm having the cash the guy hands me the diamond. It was a fake diamond coated with real diamond bits. The only way to spot these is by knowing diamonds and how they reflect light. These diamonds fool electronic diamond testers. He told me he knew very little about diamonds. They didnt have any of the proper test equipment. Surprised I said I had the equipment in my car. When I came back he gave me the diamond outside the shop after insisting to see the money I had again. He made me count it to see how much I had. It told him based on the information I had he was selling a fake diamond. I told him I had a sure way to test it. A scratch test with another diamond. I warned him it would destroy the stone if it wasn't really a diamond when he snatches it out of my hand and demands I make an offer. I ask him what the deal is? I showed him the cash. He tells me he had a guy follow me out to my car. I guess the car wasn't nice enough for them to believe I was a serious buyer. These guys deserve no business. While I went outside a woman with silver came in. They made me wait outside while they made a very low ball offer for her silver. Claiming their offer was 5% below market value. More like 50% below. Thank God she didnt take the offer. read more

You may do OK if you stay away from non-slabbed coin because most of the raw coins are cleaned. I paid $1200 for an Unc. seated Liberty ms64+ and when I received the coin it had been cleaned on both sides leaving hairlines so I called the owner and he was all about we want to make the customer happy at all costs except for returning the coin. It was damaged and there was no mention of that in the description. So, I was going to send it in to NGC hoping for a MS63 but the highest I would have been able to get was UNC. details (cleaned or harshly cleaned. I talked to several auction houses, and they said that if the same thing happened on their website, they would return the coin. He also started to get really nasty with me. There are enough honest auction houses out there, but this is one to stay away from. They don't care about their customers. Going back to slabbed coin. Stick with NGC, PCGS and Anacs because he has these graded coins that I hadn't seen in years that eBay won't let you list on their website. One is GEC and I haven't seen a coin that they haven't graded a common date Morgan MS67 and their estimate is between $1600 and $2100. Any other decent auction house would put under their description that the coin doesn't grade more than a MS63 but they let you think that you are actually buying a MS67 Morgan. Just unfair practices and I have been buying since 1999. The owner doesn't seem t care about ripping those customers off. If you don't believe me buy a raw coin and see if it is not damaged in one way or another. When reading other bad reviews it sounds like the guy I had to deal with. Thumbs down on this auction house. I believe some of the other people working there as very nice!! read more

I went in with a friend who was trying to sell her wedding rings. As if her selling her wedding rings wasn't enough of a situation.. I broke my neck months prior and the bald man behind the counter kept asking how I broke it. I told him how and he told me I was stupid for not suing the place it happened at... kept asking what I did for a living and what my name was... I wasn't even the person doing business there. The man told me "whoever told you were dumb and had no rights doesn't know what they're talking about" when in fact nobody had even said that at all. He managed to make me feel even more insecure as if walking around in a neck brace isn't hard enough with everyone staring and wondering what happens. Completely unprofessional and a little bit perverted as well... but good news if anyone needs legal advice this man apparently gives it out for free :) read more

I sold some gold fractional eagles here this past fall. When we arrived there was a note on the door saying to call so we did The owner answered and said he's out to lunch and to wait for him. An hour later he shows up. He was very hurried and there was a lot of pressure to sell our gold. I am only upset because he paid us the equivelant of 1100 an oz and said just found out that gold has not been that low in 5 years. It should've been closer to 1500 an oz for our eagles. I understand that they need to make a profit but, I have my own college to pay for. I'm not trying to pay for his kids degrees. I thought it was weird for him to thank us for giving it to him at that price but we are college students and we were so naive. Life lesson here, shop around and don't give on to pressure read more

Buckle up, because this story has a few twists and turns. Two years ago, my 86-year-old father purchased gold coins from an unscrupulous dealer in Texas. In February of this year, Dad suspected he had been defrauded, and went to Ken Vilken at Coins Since 1994 for a valuation. Dad was told to bring the actual gold coins to his office, where Ken then looked up value of the coins online, which he wrote in margin notes on the original invoice from the Texas dealer. Dad was then pressured to "sell" the Texas coins in exchange for a different set of gold coins that Ken offered. This was done in the name of getting Dad a tax write-off -- a transaction that did not need to be rushed into in February, but could have been done on Dec. 31 for the same effect. No bill of sale or paperwork documenting this transaction was given to Dad. In April, Dad told me what had happened and it seemed fishy to me. Why would Ken trade his coins? What was in it for him -- other than giving a false valuation and selling at a profit? I hoped that hadn't happened, but I needed to get to the bottom of it. I told my Dad to get a written bill of sale from Ken so we could compare valuations. In the meantime, my brother-in-law and I got separate valuations on both sets of gold coins. When Ken grudgingly provided my dad an invoice, it was wildly inaccurate and inconsistent compared with the notes he had made in the margin of the original invoice. This was getting confusing, so I put it all on a spreadsheet. Our family set up a meeting with Ken to ask him a few questions: What was his motivation in doing this trade? Why did it have to be done right then? Why was the paperwork inconsistent? Why are the valuations on both sets of coins so different? When I tried to get Ken to answer my questions during the meeting, he became defensive and hostile, at one point mocking my dad saying "what kind of person buys gold over the phone?" When I asked about a certain appraisal, he said "it wasn't an appraisal." I said, "OK, valuation." He said, "it wasn't a valuation." My bro-in-law piped up: "Can we say, 'words coming out of Ken's mouth?'" Ken then accused my bro and me of just getting involved to get our inheritance. At this point, the conversation had become so hostile that my bro asked Ken to leave. Honestly, I don't know for sure if Coins Since 1994 is a trustworthy and valid company. But my experience was extremely negative, and Ken Vilken appeared to be acting in a way that was shady at best, malicious at worst.
