Cleaned out some more old jewelry I hadn't worn in years. Coins and Currency of Wayne gave me over $1500 for my handful of gold/white gold/silver (retail value with inflation since purchased was $6811, so $1500 is right inside the expected 15-35% range of expected scrap value on any gold retail price). They were super friendly and kind as usual, also very helpful to my son who is learning about coins for a project and had a lot of questions. I noticed they take silver plated items as well, and I have an antique pitcher that broke that is either pure silver or plated that I need to scrap. Also I have a set of very old silver (or plated, need to check) flatware that's doing nothing in my buffet drawer so I'll be back with more! I've been going here for years and Frank is always friendly, fair, and honest. Some time back I was in there and a little old lady had brought in a box of wheat pennies and some other old junk coins. First time at Coins & Currency. Was excited to go after great conversation with Frank a few days ago. Only had a few coins to sell and, of course, like everyone else, was looking for a fair exchange. Issue for me was the payout - there was no separation provided of what the coin was worth and what the transaction fee was. No transparency. I received almost the same amount for a less valuable coin than one more valuable. Difference must be fee... greater fee for the more valuable coin. my experience was vastly different. He appears to be a lovely down to earth guy. But He gave me something like 50 dollars for a diamond ring 2 and a half carats 18 K white gold and when I asked for it back he turned bright red and gave me a hard time. He knows this. I was very impressed with all the "positive" reviews for this store so I went there to sell some old gold jewelry. I assume Frank was the man who took care of me. He barely looked at the pieces, tossed all but one ring on a scale behind him. I could not see the scale and he didn't offer to put it on the counter which is where I think it should have been. He made a comment about it all being gold and how clever I was to have brought only gold pieces. He said the ring he separated from the rest of the pile was 18K gold. He did not say what K all the other pieces were. He just took the whole pile, went to the back of the store and came out with the cash which he handed to me. He went back to helping another customer and simply dismissed me. I know he paid me for only a fraction of the gold weight which I gave him. In simple terms he cheated me.
