fairly miserable experience. went in to buy a frame and matting prepared to spend as much as it…read moretook and to be a repeat customer since i have prints regularly to frame. clerk was fairly short w me and showed me a selection of ready made frames, i asked if they had larger frames she said no. she didnt offer the framing desk. i could see they clearly made frames and had to push to ask what process was to frame. she said it was an appt process and i couldnt schedule now w person behind framing desk, so i said ok id schedule online. her friend came in directly after me and asked if they had larger frames and she then directed her and walked her back to the framing desk to speak to the clerk she had just said i couldnt speak to and they brought out several large frames- one exactly like i was looking for- and then put a few on hold saying shed only get one. i was still standing right there and she did all this in front of me. she didnt acknowledge or apologize that shed done several favors for her friend in front of me that id just asked for as a new customer. so it was just weirdly rude on several levels. the framing person was nice enough to apologize because i spoke to her after the clerk left, but said there was nothing she could do. really really weird experience and im not inclined to return based on how rude that whole exchange was.

Definitely worth checking out as well. They bought Stowe Street Emporium from a sweet older couple several years back, and have done an amazing job maintaining its original homey charm, while reinventing it w/their unique brand of coolness, style and fun. You know how you always say "I wish I'd said....."? I really wish I'd ask the person behind the counter if she/they were having problems. She/they were so incredibly unfriendly and almost flat out rude. I kept thanking her, when she really should have thanked me. Love Capitol Stationers but, three hours later and now home, and I'm still thinking about the absolutely poor customer service. A few minutes after that visit, I was in Roam, and had the absolute BEST time interacting with three staff members. Yes, I bought more than I should have, but the customer service was the best I've witnessed in a long time. Business owners: train your staff!!! And, if this staff member was an owner, shame on you.

The work here is thoughtful, confident, and diverse, featuring Vermont artists and voices well beyond the region. The mix includes striking mixed-media pieces alongside more traditional forms, all curated with a clear point of view. Nothing feels filler or tourist-oriented. Every piece feels intentional. Jack was a genuine pleasure to meet. He is knowledgeable, generous with his time, and deeply invested in both the artists and the conversations around their work. That care shows in the space itself. The gallery has a strong presence and an inviting energy that encourages you to slow down and really engage. If you care about contemporary art and find yourself in Stowe, this gallery is a must-visit. It easily stands alongside top galleries in much larger cities, and we will absolutely be returning.

Inside is much larger and book displays are well designed and thought out, enticing and encouraging you to peruse for your next reading adventure. The owner works hard to curate books from every genre, staying on top of current best sellers, while also offering a great section of local Vermont authors (of both fiction and nonfiction) , games, cookbooks, stationary. There is something for everyone's tastes and preferences. The owner and employees are all very friendly and knowledgeable. They'll gladly order what you'd like if you can't find it in stock. She often hosts events, so follow their Facebook page to learn more. Prices are reasonable and it's always hard to walk out with "just one more book." The store is located next to a lovely coffee shop: perfect combination for a new book to take with you as you sip and dine. If you live local or just visiting, I encourage you to see all they have to offer. Supporting indie booksellers is so important and also rewarding. You won't be disappointed.
