The cutest and perfect place for anyone looking for a quiet/spacious spot to work. Also great if you're just looking to grab a coffee and bite with friends. The view from the rooftop is absolutely amazing! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with a lot more outdoor. Heaters are provided outside so no need to worry about freezing your tush off. The lattes are great, but what keeps me coming back is their cookie. You can find that cookie on the counter right by the register. Stopped in wanting to enjoy the nice weather from the rooftop, but it was reserved. No biggie. Decided to try a couple of dishes and sit inside instead. I opted for the Guava cookie (was served to me cold), a chicken empanada, and a limited time special sandwich called the Shababi Confit Chicken Cuban. Everything was really good. I'm not a person that normally goes for spicy but glad that I took a chance on this sandwich. I wanted a guava and cheese appetizer but it was already sold out. Service was a bit alow but I'm giv8ng grace since there was a wedding party taking place. Colada Shop is such a gem, they should franchise and open a bunch of them outside of the DMV. The pina coladas are DELICIOUS. The little toasted coconut slivers on top just add so much to the drink. The different seating area all seem like great spots to chill, chat with friends, or get some work done. I got the chocolate de La abuela which was absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend! I also got a breakfast sandwich that had egg and pork and I wasn't super impressed, there wasn't as much flavor as I hoped in the pork. However, they have a bunch of items on their mento and I definitely plan to return and try everything out! Visited for the first time with my friend on Sunday. Dropped by to try one of their pina coladas, which was extremely good. I appreciated that they were topped with toasted coconut. Sat at the bar, but was bummed to find out that you did not engage with the workers. Everything was ordered from an app and dropped off without much interaction other than confirming that it was your order. I much rather prefer the personal interaction of having. It was difficult just getting someone's attention to ask for a cup or water or ask questions of the menu. Granted, the app is easy to use. I also ordered the breakfast empanada and the chicken empanada. They were both very good, especially with the accompanying sauce. The restaurant had a very laid back vibe. ICED CAFE CON LECHE - 4.85 My friend got this with oat milk and asked for quarter sweetness and claims that this is one of the best lattes he's had in the area. Now, I'm a black coffee person and most lattes cease to impress me because I can barely taste the espresso in them. Out of about 20 lattes, I'd say 19 of them are usually a miss for me in terms of espresso strength and coffee taste. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this latte! The oat milk and Cuban crema only helped to enhance the espresso flavor somehow. I was quite impressed by this latte and would most definitely get it again. Sadly, we were only able to enjoy the latte since we were so full from our lunch. I'll definitely be back to try the Cuban inspired food and other coffee products! Love popping into Colada Shop for a quick bite while I'm on 14th St. I can't go wrong with their empanadas - the chicken empanada is my favorite. I also like their croquetas as a little snack. If you're really hungry then grab the Media Noche Sandwich. They have a variety of coffee drinks hot and iced and my go to is the Iced Cafe Con Leche. Service is always friendly! Grab your food and head upstairs to sit in the rooftop area or grab a table outside to hang out if the weather is nice. There's also more seating space inside towards the back of the restaurant on the right side. It's easy to miss if you're not looking. read more

Their empanadas are small but mighty. From the very first time we tried this place, we make it a point to get some empanadas every time we are in Washington. We've tried some of the seasonal ones and they are always delicious. A bit pricey for what it is, but delicious so as a special treat every once in a while, it's worth it. Really good little Cuban coffee and food joint right along the 14th St corridor! We only tried once for a coffee for my wife and I got the empanada trio for a snack one morning. Really good but the egg cheese and sausage flavor was only average really. The wife liked the coffee but said it was strong. They make croquets, and Cuban sandwiches which I wanted to stop in another time to try but we were eating more at nicer dining that weekend visiting family. Wish I could get one of those Sammie's!! They had ample indoor and outdoor seating and lots of decorations to set the holiday mood; all that was missing was some Mariah and Christmas music. I ordered a Churro Latte which was nice and unique; I appreciated their non-traditional drink options. Also, Louise, their manager was wonderful and considerate. When we decided to sit in their outdoor space he saw that it was cold, so he shut their window-awning to keep us warm. Overall, this place is a must visit! We stopped here for a quick drink so I can only review the pina colada but it was GOOD. I guess that should be expected given the name but I think the thing that takes this drink over the top is the toasted coconut on top. It really took the drink to the next level. Plantain chips: 5 stars for the chips, but I wish the bean dip had been a bigger serving (the dip is a perfect flavor to go with the chips). Seasonal empanadas: 5 stars. Perfect crunchy exterior without being greasy, and delicious filling. Cuban: 4 stars. Pretty good. Pickles were delicious. The bread has a great chew, but I wish it had been toasted a bit more. The are doing hands free ordering via their website and leave everything on the counter. I got a mojito that comes in a cute pouch and it came with an empanada(I got chicken and dang if I'm not mad I didn't grab like 10 more !) it was so good!! It came with a little cup of sauce that you definitely should dip in. Not sure what it was. They also have tons of Cuban coffee combos. We didn't grab any coffee, but they had cafe con leche which is always hard to find for some reason. We also got the guava and cheese pastries and they were so good as well! I love Colada Shop. It's a bit cramped, but worth it. The space is bright and cheerful. If available, I always opt for a stool facing the window on the ground level. I like they open early on the weekends, as I enjoy picking up breakfast here. Service is friendly. Their empanadas are super crispy and deliciously filled, with options such as picadillo, spinach and cheese, and more. I would love a cheese-only one though. The coffee is really good and I'm sad they cannot use actual Cuban coffee (I love Turquino), but I do appreciate their coffee offerings. And of course, their drinks are on point. My favorite is the Hotel Nacional. Colada Shop also has a great happy hour. I haven't made it to their rooftop yet, but intend to shortly. read more

Visited Colada Shop for breakfast during one of my trips in DC. It was a cute little Colombian Coffee shop, but not the best coffee. I had a vanilla cold brew and it just did not taste good at all. I had to force myself to drink it just to make it worth the $6 I paid for the coffee. However, I did have a bacon, egg, and cheese empanada, and that tasted way better! Everything was delicious, but the standout was definitely the shaken tea. So good! While I haven't been back to dine in, I have ordered one of their teas for delivery after trying it during my visit. I ordered 70 sandwiches for my office on Monday to be delivered on Wednesday. I called Colada asking them if they were up to the task and had enough staffing to fulfill my order by 8:30-8:45ish. The woman who I spoke with was very pleasant and said they could absolutely do it since I called ahead before placing the order on their website via Toast. I ordered 25 mojo pork, 25 ham & cheese and 20 spinach & egg breakfast sandwiches. Fast forward to Wednesday and it stated off on the wrong foot because the sandwiches were delivered an hour late, so they were cold. I realize they don't have control over the DoorDash Driver assigned, so that isn't even part of the 1 star review, but explaining how everyone was already impatient for the sandwiches. Once we started passing out the sandwiches, it was obvious they were cold and when I unwrapped one of each flavor, it was shockingly sparse & the bread was stale & VERY dry. I've attached photos to explain the presentation and lack of quality control given by Colada. I was trying to support a small business and help them out through Covid by giving them a large order, but this is just unacceptable. I understand the food & beverage industry has been hit hard with lack of labor (my family's restaraunt is also suffering), but in turn restaurants need to be forthcoming of what they can do well with this labor shortage and what they cannot. read more
