I'd heard good things about the drinks here but wasn't sure if there would be good dinner food.. and I was pleasantly surprised! Loved the moody vibe of the wine bar, it felt very cool, cozy and sophisticated. We sat in a booth under a red light so unfortunately my food picture turned out super red. Friends loved the selection of orange wine, and we ordered mcbetty truffle fries, shrimp scampi, honey whipped goat cheese, shishito peppers, and caesar salad for 4 people. Highlights were definitely the shrimp scampi with focaccia and fries, with the goat cheese on bread as a close third. A little pricy for the portions but honestly impressed with the variety of flavors and quality of the food. Service was ok, food came out a little slower than expected. La Betty is a really cool vinyl wine bar that has all the vibes. Wine isn't usually my go to, but I really loved the space and the overall ambiance. It's got plenty of character and feels like a great spot to hang out with friends or for a nightcap. When you walk in someone will help you find a seat and once you you're ready to order, you go up to the bar to order drinks or food. Although wine isn't my main thing, they do offer a small and limited selection of alcoholic options just no cocktails. Enough to do the job. I loved the music and the dim, chill, laid back decor really complimented the overall feel. It's definitely a spot I'd come back to especially to try out some of the food. Came on a Sunday morning and didn't need a reservation. They have a great rotating menu of sweets and an extensive drink menu. The cinnamon roll is delicious and the goat cheese scallion biscuit is a master class of taste. My iced vanilla latte was huge and so yummy. This place is sinfully good! A delightful breakfast spot with AMAZING donuts... First, service was quick and smooth. Upon walk in, a kind worker met us with their iPad and immediately took our order. I ordered the egg bowl and my boyfriend had the breakfast sammie. For my egg bowl I ordered a side of avocado and bacon (extra charge) and I'm sure glad that I did. This dish contains a salsa sauce which brings together the perfect balance of spiciness, an incredibly well prepared scrambled egg, delicious breakfast potatoes, and all of the components necessary to keep you filled and satisfied. Let's just say that I will be ordering this AGAIN! My boyfriend loved his egg sammie. We also split a maple donut-OMG! These donuts were INCREDIBLE. Embrace the change! Its worth it. Have an open mind. Do I miss a Baked Joint, sure. But, things change and to keep a business going sometimes they need to change with the times. I love the work they did. I was there on the third day since. they had their grand opening. We made reservations to sit on the inside. You will find a line develops for people ordering inside and picking up orders. It definitely has the coffee house vibe. There are some tables, and some couch set up seating available. I recommend stating if you want a table to sit at if you plan on having more than just drinks. I was there with my two kiddos. We sat at the bar seating facing outdoors. It was a nice seating option. We ordered a few items. We opted for the yogurt, a goat cheese biscuit, 2 donuts, and chia pudding. Everything was wonderful. My children raved about the yogurt and my daughter found something new she likes, chia pudding. She was happy she ordered it. The goat cheese buscuit packed great flavor. It was not over powering. The donuts were ok. I personally prefer a cake donut, but there as nothing wrong with their donuts. It's all preference. Our waitress was great. She explain items that were her favorite and guided me with explanations on the food. The staff at La Betty and their sister store Baked and Wired have always been amazing! I took the metro in and walked about 10-15 minutes. It was a nice walk and area. The decor was really nice. I loved the vibes. Turns out they do things in the evening. I miss Baked Joint and the old Betty (the focaccia pizzas and veggie burgers were so good! The weird new set-up doesn't have a register or kiosk - you're supposed to awkwardly order through a staff member when you walk in. There are 2 sides, a side with table service and a more casual side. The breakfast and lunch menu are paired down - so glad that Sammie made the cut and still on the menu! The donuts sadly replaced all of the cupcakes, while the other dessert bars and baked goods have stayed the same (OMG S'mores bar is still there!). I wasn't a fan of the beignet style Matcha or the Chocolate Mousse Donut. The Matcha had a subtle flavor and very little filling. While the Chocolate Mousse donut was tasty, Nutella would have been a better filling and wish the donut was a bit softer and fluffier, I miss the old days at Baked Joint with the aroma of fresh bread and biscuits and being able to a small slice of focaccia bread or a single biscuit a la carte. I was surprised to see the new name since this spot was once known as A Baked Joint, which I've always loved! I usually stick to my go-to order--the Just Biscuit with eggs and a drink. I've also tried their cakes, which were really good. I was tempted to try the new donuts but decided to hold off this time. My son ordered the BLT and said it was delicious. The service has always been great at A Baked Joint, and it's just as good here since many of the same employees are still around. I was a huge fan of their former bakery and community space, A Baked Joint, so I wanted to try their new donuts at their re-opening day here. I had high hopes for the coconut cream donut, but it honestly didn't taste like much except sugar. I snagged their delicious, classic cinnamon roll, which the owner said has been in her family for generations. I was in DC and wanted to stop by my favorite morning spot, A Baked Joint, for my go-to breakfast sandwich. To my surprise, it was closed. How could that be? I had been there just a month earlier. Fortunately, I learned that La Betty is owned by the same team and carries over some of A Baked Joint's menu items. That said, the two spots feel very different. La Betty has an eclectic, dimly lit, sit-down coffee shop vibe, more of a place to pull out your laptop and work quietly. A Baked Joint, on the other hand, was bright, bustling, and perfect for grabbing a quick bite and coffee. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about La Betty replacing A Baked Joint, as they seem to cater to different audiences and could easily coexist independently. Still, La Betty offers table service, which is a nice touch, and my server was extremely friendly and helpful. I ordered the NC Country Ham breakfast sandwich, a carryover from A Baked Joint and my favorite breakfast sandwich in DC. The ham, eggs, and cheddar are cooked to perfection. The eggs are soft, pillowy folds of deliciousness, and the roll it sits on is perfectly crunchy. The Ube Blackberry Latte was also quite tasty. Following their own protocol, we emailed ahead of time and were told there'd be no issue. Despite this, the manager greeted us by reprimanding my friend in front of the few other patrons there. Instead of offering solutions she opted to speak in a demeaning tone, threatened to call the owner multiple times, and even confused my friend for a different Black woman. While apologies were later given by the owner, no action was taken. Next time I'll be going to St. Vincent Wine where the service, and drinks, are vastly better. read more

la Betty is the newest restaurant from the creators of Baked and Wired. A listening room and wine bar, this is an incredible space for a date night or a night out with friends. The drinks menu is entirely natural wine (including some NA wines!). Our server explained that they plan to switch out some bottles each month, keeping the wine list dynamic and inventive. The bottle prices were extremely reasonable, especially for DC. The bottle we selected, Meinklang Tag, was funky, a little sour, and incredibly refreshing. They serve some small bites, which we felt complemented the flavors of the wine perfectly. We got the shishito peppers and the whipped goat cheese. Between the two, the whipped goat cheese is a must order. The combination of the creamy cheese, salty olives, and orange oil was unlike anything I've ever tasted, and it was absolutely delicious. The DJ that was spinning was fantastic, and the music was just loud enough without overpowering our conversation. The decor has strong midcentury modern inspiration, but felt cozy and unique in its execution.
