DC has some of the best food influencers around. They're always finding great spots and sharing them with everyone, and Providencia is one of those places. It's warm, inviting, and tucked just off the H Street corridor. You walk down a narrow passage that feels like an alley, and suddenly it's right there. From the moment you step inside, the staff makes you feel welcome. Everyone was friendly, smiling, and focused on making the experience memorable. On my first visit I only had cocktails, and they were outstanding, easily some of the best I've had in DC. Thoughtful, balanced, and genuinely impressive. One heads up, the space is very small. The sign inside lists a max occupancy of 36, so make a reservation.

WOW! This cocktail bar was amazing. I love the whole concept of utilizing memories into fun drinks. We had 2 rounds of drinks & everything tasted amazing. We also tried the plantain + hojicha tiramisu, which I heard was a must try based on reviews. They were right & this was amazing! It paired well with our drinks & was such a great addition to the experience. We were celebrating a birthday & the bartender gave us a couple birthday shots at the end. He had us try a peanut butter tequila & it tasted delicious. Overall, loved this place & will be back whenever I'm in DC again!

Such a delightful gem tucked right off of H street. It's quite unassuming on the outside, but a beautifully curated intimate space on the inside. I tried 2 of their cocktails and absolutely loved the "Lights of the Night Market" one. It's such a fun drink with each sip kind of alternating from a sweet to slightly smoky curtesy of the pandan and mezcal in it. I honestly don't remember the other drink I tried but I also really enjoyed it. I was planning on only drinks but the combination of plantain and hojicha in a dessert was too enticing to not try. The tiramisu was delicious but only when you had every component of it together. I didn't really enjoy the hojicha mascarpone on its own, but eaten with some of the rum soaked sponge and the plantain jam, it was so good. Overall, their menu was such a playful combination of flavors and very much an ode to the roots of the chef's of this place. I'd love to return to try other menu items and adopt another little gato. Highly recommend making a reservation!

"Providencia is a love letter to the immigrant experience. Tucked away just off H Street's buzzing trolley-lined street, this 22-seat bar offers more than food and drinks--it offers a whimsical journey." My friend took me to this low key bar that made me feel as if I was transported to a little spot in Mexico City. Or even Baltimore as it was nestled in the alleyway. I'm in love with little bars like these that are intimate and very thoughtful with their menu. With a blend of Taiwanese and Salvadorian, I absolutely loveddd their big chip and salsa and Eggplant pupusa dishes. Their desserts also look delicious but I'll have to check that out during my next visit. For drinks we tried the 'Lights of Night Market' and 'Cumbre del Volcan' and enjoyed both. Please please show this business some love. It's a cool vibe!

I think I've told everyone I meet about how amazing Providencia is and now I'm telling Yelp, too! I went because I love Paola Velez and was so excited to try some of her decadent desserts after having been following her on Instagram for so long. The Baked Alaska Shaved Ice is a MUST. Please for the love of bob get it. The drinks are also out of this world. My favorites were the Run Bing With Nai Nai (seriously, I think about this drink like once a week) and the Lights of the Night Market, although every drink we got there was good. I also loved that the bartender seemed like he was having so much fun behind the bar. It was contagious. I enjoyed the roasted eggplant pupusa (although I didn't love the smoked brisket) and the root veggie tamale. Definitely want to come back to try all the rest of the things. Be sure to get reservations, as the inside space is verrrrry cozy.

Came for the cocktails, stayed for the baked Alaska. Had a lovely experience here. This place is small so reservations are a must. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. A cute and cozy nightcap. Things we tried: the big chip (worth it, we ordered two), a few of their cocktails, and the baked alaska.

It took a minute to book a Friday or Saturday evening reservation and now I see why. The restaurant is such a cozy spot seating under 30 people. The food was delicious. There was some heat to almost everything we had which my husband loved. We enjoyed the duck, a crab Sammy and a few other dishes. Our bartenders were great. And it felt like these were elevated dishes that Chef Paola grew up on (?) could be wrong.... But in any case... it's worth a visit.

Very small and cute fusion bar with unique drinks. We ordered the night market cocktail which had a very smoky mezcal taste. The nai nai cocktail was super unique (inspired by cilantro peanut ice cream in Taiwan). There was a peanut taste but I wish they added cilantro as well to emulate the flavor of the ice cream. I also ordered a taro/oat milk flavored mocktail - I didn't love the popcorn on top because they became soggy with the drink. Service was great!

Only reviewing for dessert. Came one Thursday night, it was pretty busy but they had a table for 2 for us upstairs which was nice but the excellent atmosphere and vibes from downstairs don't continue upstairs and the kitchen is right there so it's busy and has lots of foot traffic but that was the only downside. Staff was super friendly and helpful, ordered the baked Alaska shaved ice which was excellent and lived up to the sterling reputation it has.

Absolutely fabulous and inventive drinks in a hip, niche location. We loved our experience at Providencia and think their best days are still ahead of them. A small interior down an alleyway, it feels like discovering a hidden gem, Service was helpful and unpretentious.

Ooohhhh. No wonder this place has been generating so much hype! Seriously, where have you seen a place that combines the elements of Taiwanese and Salvadoran culture? I know I haven't, and I've experienced some interesting fusions in recent years. So it's imperative that you make a reservation online. You can only make one a week in advance. I had it open when out with a friend, and I didn't make it right then and there. And before I knew it, the time slot I wanted disappeared and it didn't come back LOL. Oh well, lesson learned. It's also worth noting that you have to put a deposit down when you reserve -- admittedly I don't love that, but the amount you put down gets taken off of your bill. So my advice is that you be 100% sure you can attend the time you reserve for, or else you do actually lose your money. The entrance seriously feels like a speakeasy lol. The sign is outside, but my gosh is it subtle! If you get close, someone does open the door for you, and the first thing they ask is if you have a reservation. I was reminded of the 2 hour time limit, but as the evening progressed, the guy did come by and remind that it wasn't filling up, so instead of having to leave, he pointed us to where we could move if we decided to stay. Once seated, it still feels like a speakeasy haha. The space is fairly small, and the lighting is pretty dim. There's a small upstairs area too that's mostly bench space. Despite the small capacity, it's a total vibe though. I got a menu and excitedly perused through the unique flavors. Pandan, mezcal, guava, plantain... so many ingredients I don't see used often. The bartender (I forgot her name) was delighted by my excitement, haha. I've primarily heard about the cocktails, so I was pleased to see quite a few food options too. I tried to explore as much of the menu as reasonably possible, so I'll start with the food: Big chip & salsa: It was a huge flavorful chip that served as the plate for some tasty salsa. Roasted eggplant pupusa: it had eggplant and squash blossom -- how unique!! It was delicious. Next time I'm going to add smoked brisket. Root vegetable tamale: Japanese curry, purple sweet potato and squash... my sister would've loved this. I did too! Such a cool fusion item. I got to taste my friend's queso as well... hot honey?! That's insane, but wow did it taste delicious. As for the cocktails... they've got some long names, but they come in all sorts of lovely colors and flavors. Lights of the Night Market was probably the strongest one I had, but I had others like Little Hats & Fast Trains. I sipped my friend's as well... impressive flavors all around. I'm rather pressed to return so I can try everything I didn't get to try... OH, how could I forget?! The beautiful baked Alaska. Shaved ice, guava puree, coconut jelly, matcha cream... there was so much amazing stuff going on with that dessert, wow! It was a beautiful sight too -- I couldn't get a good pic of it, so I just said forget it lol. Every aspect of the place exceeded my expectations, and I'm excited to return.

Wow! Tucked away on H Street is this remarkable gem! The bar itself is a striking focal point, and the ambiance feels both casual and upscale at once, making it perfect for any occasion. It's a perfectly curated menu that stories the cultural experiences of its owners. A masterful journey that is both warm, flavorful, delightful, and nostalgic. The small plates are equally worth the trip just as much as the drinks! And the best part, there is a perfectly curated N/A option as well! Every dish we got was bursting with flavor. The Baked Alaska was mesmerizing; the chips and salsa was divine; the eggplant pupusa was to die for; the hojicha tiramisu is a must get! Providencia combines a killer drinks list, expertly crafted food, and A+ vibes for a nice time out! Highly recommend checking Providencia out! The staff is incredible and responded so quickly to my requests! Will definitely be back again!

Everything is tastier when it looks good and is bite sized and this my friend is a check, check and a check! The owner elevates tarts into one sophisticated bite using seasonal ingredients and beautiful flourishes like sprinkled covered marshmallows or edible flowers. If sugar ain't your thing you can check out their savory flavors as well -- sweet potato hummus? Yes please! The crust is hearty and the perfect foil to the sweet, sweet insides. Perfect for cocktail parties and they take orders online so you never have to talk to a human person (sorry, I'm an anti social hobbit who just wants to live on tarts). Black Pearl recently provided red wine and fruit compote tarts topped with sweet goat cheese and…read morepoached pears for an event I attended. I was stunned. It's actually worth talking about their appearance before I get to the experience of eating them: On the table, their products look elegant--striking without being intrusive or gaudy. They set a great mood. These are some of the best-presenting tarts I've ever seen. I can't vouch for their full line of products, as the only tart on offer was the Mulled Fruit & Goat Cheese, but it was shockingly well-thought-out: Every texture at play in the tart--firm, crumbly shell; jammy compote; smooth sweet cheese; crisp poached pears--kept its distinct profile throughout the evening. Coming to them later in the night didn't result in a soggy crust, limp fruit or runny compote, and the textures recombining in your mouth were a delight. Of course texture doesn't mean much if it isn't backed up by flavor, and so I saved the best for last. As I mentioned above, it's obvious that everything about this dessert was carefully considered, and considered with excellent judgment, at that. Every element was in balance, announcing itself clearly on the tongue without overwhelming the other notes: The mild cookie-ness of the crust, the deep mulled wine in the compote, the sweet tang of the goat cheese--this was a joy to eat. Full disclosure: Black Pearl is operated by Christina Marie. I do know Christina personally--we have a number of close mutual friends, though I don't know her terribly well. I'm writing this review because Black Pearl is a local start-up whose food really impressed me, not as a personal favor to someone I know.

Our donut was light and fluffy, with a creme infused with real banana. You can tell that they are being thoughtful on their approach to artisanal donuts, and it really shows up in how they elevate this classic dessert. Its rare to find donuts that balance complex flavors, sweetness level, and good crumb but all of those things are what make it distinct fom others, especially chain restaurant donuts. Of course, these are probably made the day of and ours was a large and substantial size. Its definitely a treat-yourself type of moment to commit to the price point, but we weren't disappointed. My take on high‑price‑point food in Union Market is simple: that's exactly where you'll find it.
