We had everything we needed, while still getting to experience all there is to do on a farm/camping ground. We assisted with feeding all the animals on a tour, made s'mores by the campfire and even picked eggs from the chickens that we ate for breakfast! They were and are a testament to the community spirit that helps all of us to get through tough times. I will say that when you come to stay at Orchard Lake Campground, you will be surprised by the amenities, from the "general store" to the common room to the game room and facilities. Price was a very reasonable $20, or $10 for persons with a NPS Senior Pass. Check-in was easy. (5/5). We arrived after-hours, and were able to find our site easily. The site itself (4/5) was very good. We particularly liked that the site was enclosed by rhododendron bushes; it must be incredible when the flowers are blooming. There was ample room for our Honda Pilot, a picnic table, fire ring, and the pad for our tent. While close to the road, you can't see the tent site from the road. The site is an easy walk to the restroom along the road (NOT an uneven path). Not a 5-star site for a few small reasons. The loop with RVs was behind us, and an RV there was running its generator, seemingly for all allowed hours. Also, previous occupants had cut a path to the adjoining site, which led to our neighbor's picnic table. As a result, there was a lack of privacy. Location of the Mount Pisgah Campground. (5/5). It's very close to a lot of interesting sites on and off the Parkway. We particularly enjoyed the drive towards to Brevard with multiple easy-access waterfalls. It's also very close to the Mt. Pisgah Inn, which has a restaurant, shop, and amazing deck with views of the mountains. Finally, this campground has hot showers! As we were driving the full Parkway, and tent camping along the way, hot showers were much appreciated! The restrooms were clean. (5/5) The campground felt safe. (5/5).

You have a couple of options to start where the camp ground is and go down to the end or go to the starting point up river . We took a bus up to the starting point and the gentle man already had our tubes loaded for us. Along the way we down we stopped at numerous sand beaches/ ropw swings on the river . When we got to the mid point of where the camp ground is, we stopped to eat and then finished the river. We tubed 2x during our trip because we loved it so much. Also if you have neck issues ask for the green tubes they definitely are super comfy. Also if you aren't an experience swimmer get a life jacket . Depending on rain the river can run fast or slow and certain parts it's deep and than some are shallow . But if you have questions they definitely answer them truthfully They accept cash,card, and have clean bathrooms . This place is a true family operated business. I definitely recommend this place

There was a nearby Porta-let. Bathrooms and a shower were a bit of a walk down the road. Tubes were available for rental. The price was fantastic at about $45 s night midweek. If you are hiking Black Balsam, or any other trails in the Shining Rock area, the location of the campground is great.

The dog wash station is a really nice touch too. The rate is comparable to a mid range hotel, but instead you get a fancy, well appointed cabin that's completely dog friendly and has a ton more amenities. Overall we had a fantastic time and will definitely be back. Top tier A++ dog vacation.

We brought our two senior Shibas, who aren't really into dog parks or other dogs, and they were able to have the entire parks to themselves for at least an hour each day we went. They had so much fun, and being able to pick up some dog treats on the way home from our park adventure was a nice touch. The staff here do an amazing job keeping the campgrounds clean, maintained, and filled with fun activities for dogs and people. Having a fenced in site was great, and our dogs felt right at home. The RV is stocked with almost everything you'll need for a few days, just bring food, towels and personal hygiene stuff and you're set. There's also washers/dryers/general store if you forget anything. Overall we had such a fun time just hanging out, spending quality time with our dogs. There were a ton of social events going on - bonfires, happy hr, etc but we're antisocial so we watched from afar. Looked fun though! We will definitely be back next summer! *My only suggestion would be to include an EV charging station, we were able to trickle charge our vehicle with no issues but having a paid EV charging site/parking spot would be an awesome addition to help generate revenue and attract more road trippers and you can charge while you're at the dog parks. I understand it's mostly a RV destination, but being able to charge our vehicle while we rented the RV was really convenient especially because the nearest supercharger is 45 min away.

There is an stigma about permanent people but we found that us being friendly, waving and smiling to all they all are friendly and respond well, on the contrary the only indifferent person was a temporary young lady that when greeted twice looked the other way but you can't expect everyone to be in a good mood all the time. Quiet place, close to Forest City where we went to church on Sunday and also very close to Lake Lure to check the touristy attractions that lure ( pun intended ) people in. The front desk ladies would not allow us to do so, even though we were prepaid and pre-registered to check in that afternoon (we were there about two hours before our check-in time). We just wanted to use the bathroom, not check in yet. They said we'd have to pay a half-day rate ($40+) to use the toilet! After we killed time until check-in, we returned and were argued with about the key deposit and I began to cry. They could've cared less. They accused me of throwing things at them (I tossed my credit card on the desk so they could hold it instead of my $4.77 - make sure you have that $5.00 cash, boy!) and I told them, still in tears, that I'd cancel if I could. They told me "no refunds" and I walked out with them still talking about me to one another in the front office - deplorable. I cannot speak to the facilities - we didn't get that far because we were not treated well. Who doesn't even offer a mother in tears a place to sit down or a bottle of water or anything?!? I was too embarrassed and frustrated to even try to stay. I believe that kindness begets kindness and I can't say that we were shown that, so here is the review telling folks what happened. I hope this leads to some HR training for the staff and that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please don't call yourself a family campground unless you are willing to treat people like family - that's the whole point of choosing one.

Fantastic signage so everyone knows what is expected to keep the grounds in optimal shape. One of the most peaceful places we have stayed.
