I just wanted some BBQ. What they had was a brisket and Brie sandwich on a blueberry muffin. They did put it on a Kaiser roll upon request so all was not lost. For a side I got a side salad. Again, trying too hard with smoked tomatoes. I love smoke flavor - on meat. From my salad, I appreciate fresh clean veggies so I wasn't impressed. Look, I know I may just not be sophisticated enough. I've eaten in some fancy restaurants and enjoyed them. It's just sometimes you want comfort food. For me, this mountain trip was when I wanted it. If this is your thing, enjoy. We went here on Monday for lunch. My husband had the pulled pork plate with grits, baked beans, and chips. I ordered the side hustler (3 sides with cornbread or chips). I chose grits, deviled eggs, apple slaw, and cornbread. Wow - the grits here are AMAZING!!! I enjoyed the herbaceous fresh flavors of the deviled eggs (contained dill, whole mustard, and maybe oregano), along with the fennel seed and dill in the slaw. Came up to spend the day with my family and our dogs, planning to enjoy the local shops and food. After eating at the bakery, we were walking back to our car when an older man rudely snapped at us about not letting our dogs pee on his shrubs. The dogs were only sniffing and didn't even attempt to go pee. Also, there wasn't any flowers, just some unkempt plants. What made the situation worse was that he had his business vehicle parked right in the middle of the walkway, forcing us to walk around it and closer to the shrubs than we would've otherwise. His attitude was completely uncalled for and frankly embarrassing for a business that relies on visitors. There were no signs anywhere stating the area wasn't pet friendly, but based on how we were spoken to, it's clear the patio near Hubba Bubba BBQ is not welcoming to dog owners. A polite conversation would've gone a long way, but instead we were met with hostility. We love supporting small local spots, but courtesy and clear signage go a long way--and unfortunately, that was missing here. It's a shame but this interaction has deterred us from supporting this business in the future. read more

The best BBQ we've been to so far in the 2.5 years we've lived in upstate SC. After a hike at Pearson Falls, we were hungry and ready for some good southern bbq. Made the 15 minute drive and found the restaurant quiet on a Friday early afternoon. Only a few other customers mingled around. You walk up to order at a window and they have a large selection of options. We went with pulled pork, potato salad, beans, cornbread, buns, and our kids got grilled cheese sandwiches. The lady taking our order was friendly and patient with us. The restaurant has a ton of tables scattered under trees and awnings, with flowers blooming all around and chickens roaming the restaurant. It was very charming and unique. We have toddler twins, plus two other daughters and felt like this was a perfect place to dine that gave them a chance to roam and be kids without disturbing others. Food arrived quickly and we thought the pulled pork was fantastic. They have a variety of sauces to try and a station where you can grab whichever ones you like. I loved the seasoning in the potato salad and beans were delicious too. The cornbread wasn't as flavorful or as moist as I like. That's probably the only thing we were indifferent on. Restroom was clean and next to it is a big sink for those who need to clean up after digging in to some good bbq. The kids just loved the chickens roaming around and everyone left full and happy. We stopped here on a Sunday to grab lunch and food for the week of our vacation, but weren't expecting a religious experience...and when I say religious experience, I mean the food was over the top fantastic and left us wanting more. They were delectable, tender, juicy and flavorful. The meat fell right off the bone. The Carolina sweet bbq sauce was my favorite. Of the sides, I liked the beans and the pimento cheese grits. I was not a fan of the apple slaw, and the cornbread was just okay in my opinion. The sweet tea was great! It was perfectly sweet but not overwhelmingly sugary. The ribs were definitely a hit, and I would highly recommend them! The brisket sandwich was also top tier. We would definitely come back here again to try some more options! Sides are all solid., pulled pork is what you expect in North Carolina, not chopped, pulled perfectly pork shoulder with nice bark and a beautiful Smoke-ring, like you make at home. Service is at the window and you can sit at the tables outside and enjoy the free roaming chickens. The smoked meats were great as were the baked beans but I didn't care for their version of banana pudding. It had caramel in it. I love banana pudding but this version was disgusting. A variety of sauces were available to suit everyone's preferences for the meats. They had tomato based; vinegar based; mustard based and cherry chipotle one. This is the best bbq in the area (sorry Wood Room, but you're a close 2nd!). Only drawback is they're a fair-weather restaurant so plan to visit in the warmer months because they close down late fall and open mid-spring. You can grab and go here, but it's best if you can plan at least an hour to enjoy the whole setting. Part of what makes this great is that there are boutique shops to explore, check cleans roaming around, and a beautiful outdoor space to sit and savor. There is plenty of parking nearby, but it's gravel and parts are steep, so plan extra time to get around if mobility is an issue. Pro tip: can't decide between your favs? Get the Indecision Platter! It's got a variety of slow-smoked meats and sides that are sure to hit all the right notes. We found this place in spring of 2021 after driving through Flat Rock. We had been through town a couple times before and had no idea it was here until we decided to explore town on foot. We loved this place so much, we had them cater the rehearsal dinner at our wedding! Over the weekend we stopped in for a Sunday lunch and I decided it was finally time to write my review. Hubba checks all the boxes. They have a well rounded menu, featuring the likes of pulled pork, ribs, chicken, brisket etc, with other surprises like a Philly cheesesteak, some salads and a very strong list of side items like apple cole slaw, collard greens and cheese grits. You can't go wrong with any of their offerings! One of my favorite parts of dining in is it's all outdoor seating in the beautiful NC mountains, and it's a very relaxing setting. Stopped here after Apple picking. Our bill was $70 and it was by far the worst BBQ we have ever had. The brisket was super nasty ( no flavor) super dry and fatty. The potato salad tasted like pickles. Their sauces all tasted like vinegar And they did not give us the drinks for our kids. We would not recommend this place for good BBQ. The setting was the only good thing this place had going for it. I would have snapped a picture but left my phone on the car. The picture would have been the pile of fat. We've eaten here for years while traveling to or from vacation. We talk about Hubba Hubba in the off-season. The only seating is al fresco which is wonderful in the North Carolina summers. Chickens roam about at your feet, adding to the overall ambiance. We've eaten through the entire menu and you can't make a bad order. The sauce selection is fabulous. It takes us about 30 minutes to get our food: 15-20 minutes waiting in line to 10-15 minutes for our name to be called. Go wash your hands, enjoy the chickens, and breathe the North Carolina air.
