Hubba Hubba is still one of my favorite local BBQ spots, and the food and service is usually excellent. The atmosphere is casual and fun, the sides are always solid, and the brisket has great flavor. My only hesitation lately has been the brisket itself. The last few times I've ordered it, the pieces I've received have been much fattier than I prefer, to the point where a noticeable portion of the serving ends up being fat rather than meat. I know brisket naturally has some fat and that's part of what makes it good, but recently it's felt a little excessive. That said, the flavor is still there and I'll absolutely keep coming back. I'd just love to see a little more consistency in the cuts being served. Overall, still a great local spot and an easy four stars for me. read more

We have always been fans of Hubba Hubba but it had been a few years since we found ourselves in Flat Rock, so we were delighted to be able to indulge once again. Seating seemed to be more plentiful since the last time we were here and we chose a table under some shade. My DH went up and placed our orders while I enjoyed the surroundings. For my meal, I had the Half Chicken Plate with Collard Greens, Cornbread and Pimento Cheese Grits. DH ordered the Rib Plate, Succotash and Cheese Biscuit with Baked Beans. Such a cute place! Order at the counter and wait for your name the pick your own seating in a cute courtyard located next to and with access to cute shops, a bakery, and other dining options. Parking was a little tough on a busy Saturday since it is a shared lot but there was someone directing! We both had sandwiches, I had the pulled pork, Josh had the brisket. Highly recommend this gem! Prefect place for a pit stop and delicious food. When you walk in, the roosters are crowin' and you can smell the smokiness from the bbq when you step out of the car. I just wanted some BBQ. What they had was a brisket and Brie sandwich on a blueberry muffin. They did put it on a Kaiser roll upon request so all was not lost. For a side I got a side salad. Again, trying too hard with smoked tomatoes. I love smoke flavor - on meat. From my salad, I appreciate fresh clean veggies so I wasn't impressed. Look, I know I may just not be sophisticated enough. We went here on Monday for lunch. My husband had the pulled pork plate with grits, baked beans, and chips. I ordered the side hustler (3 sides with cornbread or chips). I chose grits, deviled eggs, apple slaw, and cornbread. Wow - the grits here are AMAZING!!! I enjoyed the herbaceous fresh flavors of the deviled eggs (contained dill, whole mustard, and maybe oregano), along with the fennel seed and dill in the slaw. Came up to spend the day with my family and our dogs, planning to enjoy the local shops and food. After eating at the bakery, we were walking back to our car when an older man rudely snapped at us about not letting our dogs pee on his shrubs. The dogs were only sniffing and didn't even attempt to go pee. Also, there wasn't any flowers, just some unkempt plants. What made the situation worse was that he had his business vehicle parked right in the middle of the walkway, forcing us to walk around it and closer to the shrubs than we would've otherwise. His attitude was completely uncalled for and frankly embarrassing for a business that relies on visitors. There were no signs anywhere stating the area wasn't pet friendly, but based on how we were spoken to, it's clear the patio near Hubba Bubba BBQ is not welcoming to dog owners. A polite conversation would've gone a long way, but instead we were met with hostility. We love supporting small local spots, but courtesy and clear signage go a long way--and unfortunately, that was missing here. It's a shame but this interaction has deterred us from supporting this business in the future. read more

The best BBQ we've been to so far in the 2.5 years we've lived in upstate SC. After a hike at Pearson Falls, we were hungry and ready for some good southern bbq. Made the 15 minute drive and found the restaurant quiet on a Friday early afternoon. Only a few other customers mingled around. You walk up to order at a window and they have a large selection of options. We went with pulled pork, potato salad, beans, cornbread, buns, and our kids got grilled cheese sandwiches. The lady taking our order was friendly and patient with us. The restaurant has a ton of tables scattered under trees and awnings, with flowers blooming all around and chickens roaming the restaurant. It was very charming and unique. We have toddler twins, plus two other daughters and felt like this was a perfect place to dine that gave them a chance to roam and be kids without disturbing others. Food arrived quickly and we thought the pulled pork was fantastic. They have a variety of sauces to try and a station where you can grab whichever ones you like. I loved the seasoning in the potato salad and beans were delicious too. The cornbread wasn't as flavorful or as moist as I like. That's probably the only thing we were indifferent on. Restroom was clean and next to it is a big sink for those who need to clean up after digging in to some good bbq. The kids just loved the chickens roaming around and everyone left full and happy. The smoked meats were great as were the baked beans but I didn't care for their version of banana pudding. It had caramel in it. I love banana pudding but this version was disgusting. A variety of sauces were available to suit everyone's preferences for the meats. They had tomato based; vinegar based; mustard based and cherry chipotle one. This is the best bbq in the area (sorry Wood Room, but you're a close 2nd!). Only drawback is they're a fair-weather restaurant so plan to visit in the warmer months because they close down late fall and open mid-spring. You can grab and go here, but it's best if you can plan at least an hour to enjoy the whole setting. Part of what makes this great is that there are boutique shops to explore, check cleans roaming around, and a beautiful outdoor space to sit and savor. There is plenty of parking nearby, but it's gravel and parts are steep, so plan extra time to get around if mobility is an issue. Pro tip: can't decide between your favs? Get the Indecision Platter! We found this place in spring of 2021 after driving through Flat Rock. We had been through town a couple times before and had no idea it was here until we decided to explore town on foot.
