Normally there are 75 to 90 people on board, we had a total of 14 and had the boat pretty much to ourselves. The crew on board were fantastic able to mingle with guests providing additional local information along the the way. Despite my best efforts in the past to do Fall train rides, which turned out to be disappointing only because there was never any good colors on trees, this by far is the very best fall foliage experience I've ever had in my life. You get great views of the tree color transitions and just great photo opportunities. It does get cold on the water so bring a jacket. Experience is as excellent as last time with beverages and snacks for purchase. If you enjoy fall colors, great scenery and boats then you have to do this at least once.

Cold Spring may be known for many things I don't even know about- but from what hubs and I noticed the short time we hung around, were the many Antique shops and some Art Galleries. And without forgetting their other eclectic collection of shops, restaurants and the most gorgeous looking B&Bs and Inns. There's also a wonderful view of the Hudson and mountains if you go further down to Dockside Park. Homes or businesses here- are located down narrow roads or a little alleyway, that is too picturesque for words. And no, there's no McDonalds! Truth to be told- I loved our Cold Spring detour before heading up to Woodstock, NY- and so glad we did and experience their genuine slice of cuteness.

Part of Clarence Fahnestock State Park, it stretches long and windy (shore line of nearly 4 miles around) up Route 301 and is about 100 acres of wetland and forest to explore, with picnic sites, boat ramp, a dock and trails. There are copious amounts of fish (bass, bullhead) in these backed-up reservoirs and unlike the mighty Hudson River; there are no nuisances like ships, dinghys, haulers, traulers.. Canopus Lake is a quiet and calm lake close to both Garrison and the neoned restaurants/bars in the river town of Cold Spring, NY. This area is not as forlorn and uninhabited as say western Massachusetts: it's got some fantastic, taste-bud dazzling dining, gas stations that double as markets, infamous West Point - as well as nifty outdoor exploration venues; like Canopus Lake!
