Food is mediocre and way overpriced. If you sit outside you have to hear the screech of the train every 15 minutes.

This is the cutest little place with the best little outdoor dining area. I absolutely adored my spring putting here. You see lots of dogs and flower petals in the outdoor area so its a fun atmosphere and everything smells amazing too. I stopped off for a snack and ended up ordering a basket of truffle fries with parmisean. The fries were amazing. I sat and ate a few while I soaked up the amazing view and the sunshine. The fries had great flavor and weren't too oily. The staff was actually amazingly friendly. My phone went dead while I was there and they actually plugged it in whole I waited. I'll be excited to come back for happy hour. They have a few $5 menu options. This is just one of those places that will make you happy when you stop by cold spring. read more

We ordered a jumbo pretzel, french onion soup, poutine, korean fried chicken burger, normal burger, and a quesadilla. Came here on a sunny Sunday and we got really hungry so we looked up a place to eat and came across the Cold Spring depot. Luckily there was no line when we arrived but as soon as we sat down, a line of people waiting to be seated formed. We both got the burger which was really good. I highly recommend it! Cold Spring Depot is a bustling spot with plenty of seating both inside and outside. The menu isn't inventive, yet the classic dishes are all tasty. I really enjoyed the kale caesar salad - which was coated in a creamy caesar dressing, crispy slivers of almonds, and perfectly grilled strips of grilled chicken - moist, with a slight char on the outside. My boyfriend downed his house burger - complete with tons of melty cheese and thick cut bacon, and of course, a side of truffle fries. Everything we ate was good, but nothing went above and beyond. Nice spot to enjoy lunch when doing a day trip to Cold Spring NY. When we were here recently we enjoyed it. Was a great day so we sat outside in the large patio area. There was some live music being formed by a couple of really old guys performing blasts from the past. It was kinda hokey but they weren't too loud and it added to the ambiance on a beautiful Fall day. Service for us was very good. Our waiter made some nice suggestions and our meals were fine. Chicken pot pie ($14) and burger special of the day topped with sauerkraut and ham ($14) that also came with a side of potato salad. The portions were large, filling, and delicious. They have a decent beer and drink list here, and more than enough on the menu to choose from including some German type plates. Prices were ok and overall it was a perfect choice for us to start off our day tripping here. Good thing we did a lot of walking to help burn off all those calories! Be aware that it is right next to the train station and the trains whizz right by as the tracks run along the outside dining area. Kind of fun to experience. The kids here got a kick out of it. Very relaxed and cozy locals spot that has been there for a long time now. Went inside to look around and it has a warm feel to it with railroad station implements, glass lamps, and antiques all around. They even have a fireplace and bookcases lining the walls. I been going to this place for 20 yrs and the service & food has been going down hill, I was there yesterday 9/19/20 with my family & the service & food was horrible all of us said the same thing to each other. I had a salad broccoli and kale with salmon, The salad was dry I had to ask for ranch dressing on the side. Very limited on the menu by the way was told to check on my phone. The waitress was horrible didn't come to ask us if we wanted anything, I got tired of waiting and I asked for the check. I will never be going back there, Your staff should treat Customers that are coming out to support you in these hard times better. My parents and I drove out to Cold Spring to explore, so we happened to be in the area. It was towards the end of our day here and we wanted to grab something to eat before we headed back. We immediately spotted this restaurant as soon as we crossed the underpass into Main St. Most other places seemed to be either closed or too far, so we just decided to stick with Cold Spring Depot Restaurant. Since the weather was great, we walked in and opted to sit outside. There is a decent amount of tables outside and it wasn't crowded at all outside at 5-6pm. It's cool sitting outside. Once in a while, you can heard the Metro North/Amtrak whizz by. At first, I was a bit surprised cause it's fairly close and loud, but you get used to it after a while. It's not too bothersome. On a fairly cool day, it's nice to choose the outdoor seating instead. Once we got seated, we were given the menu immediately. The menu has an abundance of typical American foods (aka burger/sandwiches). I wanted to experiment and try Ahi Tuna Poke appetizer, so we went with that and the waiter's recommended Portobello Swiss Burger. After we ordered, I noticed that the service was kind of slow. I don't know if it's just the culture here, but I noticed that the food took a while to come out. But once we got the food, I had mixed feelings about the food that we ordered. One was positive and one not so much. For the positive, the waiter's recommended Portobello Swiss Burger came out to be pretty good. The Portobello Swiss has a fairly thick burger w. cheese, lettuce, tomato topped with tiny mushrooms inside. My mom who is not a huge burger fan even like it. As for the Ahi Tuna Poke appetizer, it was not so great. It was what I expected in terms of how it looked, but it tasted quite salty. It seems like they had put a decent amount of soy sauce inside. When asked for some bread, our waiter was nice enough to get us some bread/butter, which made it a little better. Overall, it was a good experience, but nothing extraordinary. Just okay. read more

I have been coming here since 1994, the menu has changed many times over the years. I really enjoy this place specially during warm weather when we get to sit outside and listen to some live music. Kids love watching the train go by as we eat. Today we tried the onion soup which was exceptional, I had the pork schnitzel and I liked it a lot. Our Waiter Danny , who served till we left was great to take to during our stay ... we both ordered 4 pints of Beer and Rose w/ an order of the Cheesesteak egg rolls , it's an order of 3 cut up into 6 pieces w/ provolone & Shishtito Dipping sauce on it. It was good enough it's fried but it wasn't too greasy. It's a spot of the trail coming back toward metro north into Manhattan... on Weekends it's probably packed here on nice days . We come up on a Wednesday. Middays are better for seating here ... large menu for drinks and you can seat inside up to the bar now too. But you will deal w/ Amtrak trains running along side the restaurant... so be prepared to speak very loud or still while it rides by ...We were patient but they will get your orders in ... We're were there for like over 2 hrs there. After a long hike , you probably just want to come here for some drinks and food to gain back your energy... . read more

Went there with my husband, weekend before last . I really wanted a specific drink I had not had in a long time. Is not made anymore! Disappointing! We ordered lunch anyway. Him, a burger, myself, a fried chicken sandwich. Both were Extremely Greasy and Inedible! In hindsight, We should have sent the food back! Interesting restaurant in a setting that is a little "different". This place is right next to the railroad tracks and sitting outside ... every few minutes one begins to hear rumbling that gets louder and louder until a train comes zooming by when one must stop their conversations for a few seconds ... but very quaint and enjoyable. My friend and I shared a pretzel for appetizer and I then had the Tagliatelle Pasta with Shrimp and Chorizo while my friend had a burger. The food was ok, although the shrimp in my pasta tasted frozen not fresh. Sauce was excellent. The pretzel (which is advertised to be "Everything Spiced") was not spicy but was fine. Our server, Julia, was really really excellent. Came back multiple times to check on us and was really very nice. However, we did have one "glitch" worth reporting. The kitchen was apparently backed up and the appetizer took a really long time to come out. We became concerned and told our server that we wanted to make sure that it didn't come out together with the main courses. A few minutes later, a "runner" came out from the kitchen to drop off the pretzel and said in a very nasty way (and I quote) "The food comes out when it comes out, guys!" and then walked away. He left both of us with our jaws dropped. We were so shocked that we frankly didn't even respond to him. I have never been spoken to like that in any restaurant I have ever been in. We did report this to the manager on the way out, telling him that we understand especially in today's world, finding good help is difficult. But a remark like that is inexcusable coming from a restaurant employee. So while I might have given the place four stars, I had to knock down the rating to three due to this. This place was decorated like the inside of a railroad station with glass lamps, paintings and artifacts/antiques all over the place. It was cute and would be a great spot to hang out when the weather is nice. We sat down and decided to go with burgers as it's usually hard to eff them up. After our server suggested the "Dallas" burger I couldn't resist, it sounded great. The wait wasn't that long and as soon as the entrees came out my eyes lit up. The portions were gigantic. Literally the burger was half the size of the dish and then it came with really good fries on the side. The burger was super juicy, I read the reviews and was cautious because someone wrote that it wasn't as juicy as they had hoped but mine was dripping. Located a block away from the Metro North Cold Spring station, this is the perfect place to grab food and drinks after a long day of hiking. This place seems like it's widely popular among visitors and locals. We had a 20 minute wait for lunch on a Sunday, but didn't mind waiting outside. Staff was over-the-top friendly and extremely accommodating. The food is good, but nothing to rave about. Their double-double burger is a giant mound of a mess and the meat was dry. The friend chicken sandwich was just fine, but the buns they use are way too bready. Come for a beer and share a dish to save some $$$. read more

Only reviewing for the pub area since I didn't eat. I did see many other people eat at the bar though and it looked good! And I believe they have burgers on the happy hour. I didn't ask if there was happy hour on the beer, so that's still a mystery to me. Had too many beers :) The bartender (female) was so so nice and knowledgeable. They have a ton of beers from the area and brooklyn. They try to swap out pretty frequently and often have kcbc, threes, interboro etc. I tried the interboro IPA that was dangerously sweet for how strong it was. Then I had a stout in a can that was recommended by the bartender. Also delicious. I'll prob never find that again. Then I had two guinesses. We chose this place because we wanted to have lunch outside on the first nice day after a week of rain. Since our party was rather large (9 people), when they said the only available table was inside, we agreed. As they were setting up though, we saw that there were available tables outside, so we asked if we could sit there instead. The tables don't fit 9 people; that's fine, we'll split up, we just want to be outside! The hostess claimed that our table inside was already set up so some of us went in -- not only was it NOT set up, a member from our own group was helping them combine tables. Do worker compensation policies cover customers?! Again, we requested to sit outside since the table inside CLEARLY wasn't ready. Again, she refused. So we enjoyed our lunch at Riverview Restaurant instead -- food was good there, and staff was polite. Maybe reach out to them for some tips on how to treat customers (this seems to be a recurring problem according to other reviews). read more

I've been recommended this place by a friend who advocates for the quality of the food and I have to say that this place delivers. I've been to Cold Spring before, but the last time I visited, I did not get a chance to visit this place and recognized it immediately after seeing the ice cream shop next door that I visited years ago. So, it was nice to finally be able to try this place. The interior of the place is warm and welcoming. Nice bar area and the table I sat at had a nice view of trains passing by. I appreciate stuff like that. The service was great. Servers were attentive, social distancing protocols were taken seriously, and were very conversational with our table. Bathroom was clean as well. Our party of 4 ordered the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and a Jumbo Pretzel as appetizers. The Egg Rolls were quite good! I've never really had an egg roll outside of its traditional fillings, but the NY strip steak was flavorful and the Shishito sauce was a nice touch. The pretzel was okay, but it was less like an Auntie Anne's style pretzel and more like a giant Super Pretzel. Beer cheese to go with was decent. I was told by one of the staff that the burgers were fantastic, so I wanted to give the Double Double Burger a shot. This one reminded me a lot of a Big Mac considering its ingredients and I think it tastes 10x better. The bun was nicely toasted, the two 4 oz. burger patties were juicy, and the thousand island dressing and grilled onions add to the experience. The fries were good as well, beautifully seasoned and crisp. The Cold Spring Depot is just an example of many great stops in the small town of Cold Spring. Considering that this place is not too far away from where I am, I will most certainly be looking forward to coming back if in the area. Cold Spring has a number of solid choices for lunch, and we chose Cold Spring Depot based on a few visits coming out of lockdown in 2021. We enjoy sitting outside at the bar. Bartenders are always attentive and helpful. The Metro-North trains are nothing more than a slight annoyance (but could be startling to babies or small children). The kitchen is more than competent and certainly has someone who knows how to work the deep fryer - - - chicken sandwich and accompanying fries were cooked to perfection. We had: Crispy Brussel Sprouts Fried Chicken Sandwich Depot 2.0 Nutella Stuffed Brown Butter Skillet Cookie The Brussel Sprouts were amazing. Crispy with mounds of fresh herbs. The gochujang dressing was an salty umami bomb. Fried chicken sandwich was one of the better versions I've had. The fry was perfect and it was served piping hot. Perhaps the need for a sturdier roll would be my only negative. Depot 2.0 turkey sandwich was excellent. Pear Chutney bringing a nice bit of flavor to the sandwich. I hesitate to even rate the CS Depot because I have been there twice before and had a good experience, however, my third time there was not a pleasant one. I sat in a booth in the bar room and was smoked out by the wood burning fireplace which was improperly managed. Sure, things happen. Poorly seasoned wood etc., but when a patron complains to the server that the room is smoky, then goes home to develop a cough, head congestion and five days later is still sick from smoke inhalation and the owner takes zero responsibility for it beyond providing an "I'm sorry" that is a red flag. Greg owns several Main Street Cold Spring restaurants. The very least he could have done was offer some sort of incentive for us to return. I shouldn't have had to call twice to speak to him and I shouldn't have had to ask for anything. A free app or dessert, 10% off my next visit should have been a no brainer for him. Eventually, I asked him to pay for the dry cleaning of my coat because I felt like I went to a campfire, not a restaurant, he said that was not his responsibility. Sadly, I don't think Greg understands the value of customer service even if it is one patron out of hundreds who experience something negative. The only bad thing I can think of about the Depot is that sometimes, it's really hard to choose an appetizer... they are all that good ... those pretzels though. I ordered the braised beef with cabbage and spaetzel and my girlfriend ordered the wurst platter. My beef was perfectly tender and I enjoyed the gravy very much. The cabbage was nice and light with an apple cidery taste to it. However, I did not enjoy my spaetzel. I almost never complain that dishes are too salty but this was a whole new level. It was so salty and spiced with herbs that it was almost not edible. I ate it with bites of cabbage which helped but it was a super downer since I usually love spaetzel.
