Honestly awful. There was one woman working there. I told her I had a nut allergy and she literally took a step back and had the widest eyes and scariest face ever. We came here for dessert after having dinner across the street at Lake Street Kitchen. It blows my mind that we got our food faster at a nice sitdown restaurant then this ice cream parlor. There was one couple ahead of us, we waited for 15 minutes before leaving the place in disgust. An ice cream parlor should be the fastest of all food-service establishments, but this place set the record for slowness in any establishment I have ever been in. We were in from out of town and stopped by to see how this cold stone compared to the ones in our area. The ice cream was the same...great! But the customer service and cleanliness were awful. When we walked in it appeared that no one was working. After a couple of minutes someone from the back room. We were not greeted and there was not a smile, we were just asked what we wanted. She created our mix-ins, took our money and went back to the backroom. We even tipped just to see if we could get a song...we should have known, no song . Lastly, the bathroom was out of order. I tried a couple of times to get in (no out of order sign on the door), finally I asked if there was a trick to getting into the bathroom. All she said is "it's out of order". Wow Yelpers, you had me worried here for a second. I, admittedly, didn't see the reviews for this location until AFTER I had placed an order for a custom ice cream cake. Fortunately, I arranged to pick the cake up the day before I needed it in the event that I had to do battle! The layout of the store is a little funky. There was a group of people standing near the entrance and I didn't realize initially that there was someone waiting at the other end to take my order. I walked down to the opposite end of the counter and was greeted by a very friendly worker. She let me know that I could go back toward the door to receive my cake as it was quite large. She commented on how nice it turned out. I remembered the pic from a previous review and held my breath as I headed down to take a look. I was relieved to see that the cake looked great! I even said out loud, "oh, it did turn out pretty nice." The guy that brought it out must have thought I was nuts. I mean, what would you expect for a $70+ cake that you just purchased???? What happened to Cold Stone Creamery? The first few times I visited their yummy shops in different locations, they sang songs and made a big deal when someone gave you tip, and were all around nice, fun people. The Cold Stone in Oak Park is full of surly, inarticulate, angry -to-be-there folks. Even though its the closest ice cream shop to my house, I'd rather walk the few extra blocks to Ben and Jerry's where the employees are friendly and glad to be alive. read more

I got there @ about 830pm yes I understand they closed at 9pm but their was 2 young ladies there, their was 2 other ppl in front of me and it took about 30 for me to even get taken care of and I asked for 2 different which of ice cream and they didn't have a ingredients so I just had to change my whole order. On the stone where they start making ur ice cream it was just dirty wasnt being cleaned after every other customer properly so their was different ice cream and different ingredients over it. This is a tiny Cold Stone. Also, being in the middle of downtown Oak Park, parking is a B! Luckily, I found parking further south down Marion St, right by the train station in that little plaza. It was nice of them to stay open later during this unseasonably warm weather, but it doesn't change the product. Ice cream and toppings too sweet, at a price entirely too high, with portions to big, and a line too slow. The only reason I'm rating them a 4 star is because it's delicious ice cream and you can never go wrong with ice cream. The only problem that I have with this location is it seems like they keep changing the prices. You used to be able to get more mix-ins and now they want to nickel and dime you for each mix-in. On Saturday, my husband and I decided to take our three kids for ice cream. He wanted to get them popsicles at Walgreens but I told him I wanted a nicer experience so we opted for Cold Stone Creamery. When we walked in the employee was cleaning. She had an obvious look of disappointment that we walked in since closing time was in 20 minutes. She was in the middle of taking out trash and chairs were already up. My husband apologized to her for us coming so close to closing. She slowly went around with a trash bag to to the back and washed her hands still with this look on her face. Finally, I asked her if she had an issue with us being there and if she would rather us go elsewhere. She said no and finally served us. The kicker here is 4 groups of people came in after us. In my eyes business closes at 10 o' clock so I am not sure what her issue was. Lady, I didn't pick your day job...The other kicker is that there was an additional employee in the back. This employee didn't even wash her hands when she took care of the next people even though she was in the back dealing with the mop! At then end of the day, if three kids walk in for ice cream you should have a smile on your face. Worse service ever! And guess what, after that we went to Walgreens and bought a box of popsicles because to be honest the ice cream wasn't even that great. read more

My experience has not been good AT ALL. I am not a big ice cream consumer but I do like to purchase ice cream gift cards for friends and family to help them celebrate their birthdays. This is especially the case when the fried or relative is in a distant city and gift giving is a little tricky. I have visited this location twice. On both occasions they were not open when the hour of operation indicate otherwise (opening at 11 AM). Today I waited a full 10 minutes. There was an employee on premises as I saw her working behind the counter when I walked up a few minutes early. I know she saw me. I waited patiently until the hour struck 11, and then 10 more minutes. She never came back! Knocking on the door did not raise the out of touch, out of time employee. Fortunately Ben and Jerry's is literally right around the corner. I will never make this mistake again. I came across this location by chance, and feeling a little nostalgic for Phoenix (where the Cold Stone headquarters is located), I stopped in. This place gives Cold Stone a bad name. Even though the place was empty, both workers completely ignored me, until I asked to place an order. One girl then told me that the "line starts over there," effectively making me walk back to the door for no good reason. (As I mentioned, the place was empty.) I ordered (and was charged for) a "gotta have it" to go with 2 mix ins. I got home to find only one mix in, and the ice cream itself was not the creamy treat I've become accustomed to from a Cold Stone. It tasted like melted and refrozen ice milk. Guess I'll have to wait until the next time I'm in Phoenix. Please avoid this place, and do not by any means think that it is representative of the real thing. read more

My sister has been getting on me to go to Cold Stone for months. I really wish I hadn't. First off, we had to wait about 5 minutes before anybody would take our order (not that there was a line or anything). And on top of that the guy didn't seem like he really wanted to be there, and I could hardly hear him over the very loud (and painful) music. My first instinct was to get a smoothie, that is until I realized that they used Splenda. So then I ordered a Medium size (which they corrected me by saying "oh you mean 'I Love It'!") Cake Batter ice cream. It did taste like cake batter. The flavor was alright, but it had a very mealy texture to it. And don't even get me started on the seating. There was all of 6 chairs and 3 tables, all crammed up against a wall. I'm not at all impressed, and the price was outrageous for the quality of ice cream. You might as well just go the 3 more blocks to Oberweis where they know what they're doing. read more

While the ice cream was delicious, the place was filthy, the only two tables beside the window IN THE BLAZING SUN were sticky messy. First let me say, this a reflection of the workers, not the very tasty ice cream. I took my 4 girls to the oak park location at about 10:30pm for a fun time before bed. It was raining, but we went anyway. I waited at the counter while a large group was being served, until more people came in, then I was helped. I asked for 4 tastings for my kids. All of them got like its without being mixed. My daughter asked for Oreos at the register and the server said, they can not take the ice cream back after she'd eaten it. I reiterated that I wanted Oreos, and added that I was insulted by her comment. The second server then said, we can not put her ice cream on the slab due to health regulations and that it was unsanitary. I was livid at this point asked them did they not understand my question. The server said to the other, don't argue just eave it alone, then they completely ignored me took my money, and gave me two Oreos in a cup. As my girls were eating, the second server, said, "we're closed so you gotta leave", as I was clearly typing a complaint to corporate. I reminded the young lady that she was not properly trained. I am outraged. I spent $14 on icecream as a special treat for my 4 girls, I could have bought 50 ice cream sandwiches or a box of 100 Popsicles for that. THE worst Cold Stone ever. Sad, because I absolutely love the product. But this store seems to be run poorly despite several ownership/management changes. Today they were out of vanilla!!! VANILLA!!!!! What ice cream store runs out of vanilla???? Especially at 5 PM on a Tuesday. So I have to pay to park and then wait in line to find out that I'm not getting any ice cream today. I think this is by far the worst Coldstone that I have EVER BEEN TO! Dingy and dirty atmosphere and un-enthusiastic staff members who appear to hate their lives. Visted this location on 3/23/16 and the heavy-set, and wild looking "manager/owner" with tatoos that had a horrible attitude. She did not want you to ask any questions and appeared to have an "pick something and get out so I can finish my work" attitude....(however she must be uneducated and doesn't understand economics...the customers are why you work and are the reason that the doors are open). Even after all of the attitude, my fiance and I still remained composed. When she rang us up she charged us $16 for 2 regular "like it" size ice creams (nothing special but a bump of caramel that we had to ask her 3X's to put on). Once we paid she avoided giving us a receipt (I believe she was trying to rip us off or stealing from the company) and once I asked her about a recipient, she got flustered and told me that she'll have to email it to me....... Now NEVER IN HISTORY, have I been told that I can't have a receipt from a low class franchise store and it'll have to be emailed to me... I gladly gave the ice cream back and got a refund. I think the operations of this location is despicable and tasteless....And the bite of ice cream that I ate was melted and tasted freezer burned. I ordered a birthday cake on line for my goddaughter's 8th birthday, got to the store to pick it up and discovered the order had been canceled. The owner was not able to give a clear reason why this happened. He encouraged us in the future to bypass online ordering and call the store directly. We ended up buying a large cake and was charged for a small cake. The cake was absolutely delicious. I contacted the national customer service for CSC and reported what had happened. I was told someone would contact me within 24-48 hours. No one has contacted me and it is past the 48 hour mark. I am ambivalent about using CSC in the future. read more

First, I must say that the cheesecake ice cream was probably the best I've ever had. The prices are rather high, though. If it wasn't for the Groupon we had, I'm not so sure we would have gone to that particular location. The customer service was fantastic. Others complained about the slow service. But, due to the fact that they hand mix the add -ons, it has to take longer. I felt the taste and choices made it worth the wait. The reason for only a 3 star rating is the price and the seating. HORRIBLE seating! Only 2 small tables with 2-3 chairs each. We do have some gift cards, but I think, to use them, we'll try the location in LaGrange. read more

However on a 90° day, we were shocked that they were out of waffles for their cones and waffle bowls! On top of that, we had coupons specifically for waffle bowls, that we intended to use. We were told we cannot use our coupons because the store is out of a staple product - waffle bowls! This is the WORST customer service I have ever received, anywhere. First of all, I walked in on a Sunday to order my cake. There were only two people working. For a Sunday summer afternoon, this is really not going to cut it. I had walked in the previous Sunday, same situation. I waited a really long time, but finally ordered my cake. I thought I was pretty clear about what I wanted. The cake artist was not in at the moment, so they said they would have somebody give me a call. A few days passed by, it was now Thursday, no phone call. I gave them a call, the cake artist did call me back until she was able to reach me. The cake artist is the only reason for the one star. She called me back a couple times & the cake decoration was great. However, I ordered a cake that was supposed to have all red velvet cake, with half strawberry ice cream, half chocolate ice cream. What I got was an entire cake of yellow cake (which I hate) , one layer of strawberry ice cream, and one tiny layer of chocolate ice cream (which I love). So basically I had an almost $80 cake, which was completely wrong & not what I wanted. I called back that same night (Sunday July 13th). The girl I spoke with was very apologetic and said she would have a manager call me back. Again, a few days passed, no phone call. I have since called back three times, but have yet to speak to a manager. How absurd!!! It's a shame too, because their products are usually delicious. I would recommend you try any of the other ice cream shops nearby in Oak Park. There are plenty to choose from. This is not where you want to go. Ok.Before you read this just know that i am still shaking my head at this situation.Here goes!I applied for a job at coldstone in oakpark back in May,I did not get a interview until July.Some very unprofessional young man calls me and says "This is coldstone can you come in for a interview at 3pm?" It wat 1:50pm.I said ok.When i rushed into Coldstone someone gave me another application to fill out then i had to wait an hour for the interviewer to come and interview me.The YOUNG lady who interviewed me was not even dressed in her coldstone uniform,she had on house shoes.She got all of my information and she asked me if i wanted to go to training that same day.Of course i said yes because i needed a job.The first day of training me and the other "employees" watched 1'000 videos and learned how to make waffles while the lady who interviewed us was texting and gossiping in the front.The second day of training i came in promptly at 4pm and i over here the interviewer and another girl in training with me talking about adding each other as friends on facebook,i also overheard them talking about how she knows the woman who owns this coldstone(the trainee know the owner).All of the trainees went into the back and watched more videos just like the day before and then we had to learn how to scoop icecream correctly into "like it,love it,gotta have it" sizes.I did pretty well on that.Then we had to learn how to work the cash register and that was not easy.There are uneeded button on it and then right after that we had to take a test on the cash register.We all went into the back to take a test on icecream that you pound onto a dirty stone and on what we learned from those videos in just two days.After the test the interviewer says "Next saturday check the schedule to see if the owner put you on it,if your name is not on the schedule you did not get the job."In the interview she does not tell you that you have to pass training to get the job and she does not tell you that you do not get paid for training and she also does not tell you that you give the owner your personal information(social security number,address,etc.) even though it is not guaranteed that you will recieve the job.I later found out that the young teenagers worker there knew someone that gave them the job.The interviewer new the owner and most of the employees went to high school with the interviewer or someone else.I did not get the job and i was crushed.I think this coldstone is over expensive,unprofessional,and full of rude teenagers.I will never fill out a application at any coldstone ever again or eat there due to this situation.Coldstone in OakPark should hire responsible adults or at least young adults instead of people that are relatives or bestfriends of employees.TWO THUMBS DOWN. read more

I rarely write a bad review. I usually don't sweat the small stuff, and ice cream is small stuff. However, I have never received worse customer service than what I received at this cold stone. With so many other local choices for ice cream and frozen yogurt in Oak Park, I feel I should warn people to go elsewhere. I was scolded by two different employees for ordering in front of the menu instead of in front of the ice cream case, although there were only two other customers in the store, no clear marking of where ordering should take place, and no way to read the menu from where your psychic intuition was supposed to lead you to order from. Cold stone, either get a sign saying "order here" or get a couple of employees who take less than 20 minutes to make a sundae, who smile or at least don't scold their customers, and someone to clean the floor. Until these things happen, I will be getting my ice cream fixes at the ben and jerry's, yogurt shop, or gelato place that are all within a one block walking distance from your store.
