I love coming in here for random pick ups. I got really lucky and came in when they had these Asian ice creams I've been seeing all over TikTok. This is the only store I've been able to find them. They also have all typical corner store snacks you can think of. I like coming in here more than running into CVS or a gas station. read more

I often stop by this market when I go the laundromat in the area. It's more like a convenience store than an actual market. Prices are a little higher than most places. You can also get lottery tickets here if that's something you're into. There's a parking lot & bus stop nearby. read more

Most of Cole's customers make a pit stop to purchase alcohol, tobacco and lottery tickets. I frequently come here to fill up my 3-gallon water bottles. They have a nice station in the back of the store that dispenses filtered water. Prices per gallon was recently raised from $.30 to $.40 which still a good value. Cole's location is popular because it sits along 1st street where commuters are just heading out to the long commute home to Tracy, Manteca and Stockton. The cashiers are not very cordial which is okay considering the clientele that come here. read more

Convenience/liquor store in an old strip mall. Nothing special about it, other than it's interesting history. On their signage, the word "Market" is set in what looks like a football shape, complete with laces. After doing some research, I discovered that this store was originally called "McElhenny Markets", and was owned by NFL player Hugh McElhenny, who played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1952-1960. The ownership has changed, but the football logo remains, all these years later. Just a little Pleasanton history/trivia for you! I've picked up a soda, snack or six pack here on occasion. Cole's Market isn't one now. maybe it was before it downsized. it's now a typical liquor dispensary in a rundown commercial strip. spacious interior. wines are in the far left cooler. sodas, etc. in far right cooler. beers center stage in the middle coolers straight ahead from the entrance. aisles of snacks, groceries, etc. whatever to the right. brew: karl strauss "wrecking alley" imperial stout, 9%, pt. + -"dark chocolate", coffee, expresso-like roasts" from"bird rock coffee roasters" -boozy smooth blend, no hanging notes. on draught: -no shopping issues, back to normal? -3 cabinets of microbrews offered. read more

The ATM machine - which I use occasionally as Cosmos only takes cash - charged me, in a single transaction: 1) $2.50 to check my balance, 2) $2.50 to withdraw $40, and 3) $42.50, another $2,50. So my $12 haircut with tip ended up really costing $27.50. Beware: Cole's makes a % off every transaction and owns the responsibilities of not ripping off its customers. read more

"Market" is a misnomer...more like crappy convenience store. Not friendly - at all. Can't stand places that cannot even say, "Hi" or "Thanks" when you are purchasing products. If I can give a zero rating I would. There is a young lady that works in there that is just as rudest can be overcharged me by $50 for my items and to deal with it. When I asked to speak to the manager or if they can call somebody so they can fix this she said no how does the business have somebody that has a 18 to 20-year-old person running to register who doesn't know with her doing and can't call a manager to fix problems. I would say stay away from that place unless you want your money to be taken for no reason. read more

I felt so unwelcomed walking into the store just because I look young. I'm 19 and I went in to buy some snacks and then a scratcher, the cashier seemed like he didn't even know English that well and can't see to do simple math. He looked at my ID for like 5 minutes to confirm my age and he couldn't tell if it's real ID or not. He finally gave it back but with a look of doubt. Horrible service. read more

Explain to me the logic of having an employee work behind the counter of a busy convenience store that speaks zero English. And another observation, they may or may not be color blind. Combine the two and you have complete inefficiency. I walked up to the counter with an empty turquoise pack of American Spirits. Not for me but for my sister. I held it up and said "I need a pack of these". Then I point directly at the row of them on the shelf. She turns looks and grabs the dark blue pack. "No, these ones". Show her pack and point again. She grabs the dark green pack. I give up. How much more clear could I have been? *pinches bridge of nose and breathes a deep breath* She turns to another employee who then points at the EXACT pack that I was pointing at. I can't... When I got back to my sisters house with her smokes I tell her this ridiculous story. She then tells me this happens to her every other day. That's why she made me bring the empty pack. Even though it didn't really help. It's just weird to me. I understand training an employee, but this was pretty bad. Slightly worse than dealing with a Walmart employee. So I've frequented this market for about 20 years. Now you're asking, "But -- why? You gave them two stars!" My family owns a business right around the corner so growing up I spent a lot of time working and hanging out in the area. This market was the only one around where I could get snacks or a cheap lunch to break of the monotony of eating at Bob's Giant Burgers every day. I'm giving them a rough review because I remember the original owners back in the late 80's. The business was run by a really close-knit family who recognized all of the regulars. It was so old-timey and comforting to walk in and be known by your first name. Then ownership changed ... and changed again.. and AGAIN! When I walk in it's strange because the layout is pretty much the same. Even a lot of the merchandise is the same, but the way it's run is much colder. I recall being on a Good N Plenty kick. I'd buy a box a day practically! Then after about a week of buying the same item I noticed they upped the price on me. I experimented and started to buy something else over and over. Then the same thing happened! I felt taken advantage of. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs I really felt like this was the wrong way to run a business. Especially because I was such a regular customer. Here's where it gets worse ... They have deli style prepackaged sandwiches and things like Hot Pockets. Once I wasn't in the mood for candy so I thought I'd get some actual food. I opened the fridge door to grab a sandwich and when I had it in my hand I noticed it was COVERED in green mold. So were the other sandwiches! I've never tried to buy "fresh" food from there since. Stick to prepackaged, preservative plenty foods like chips and candy. Or.. better yet, don't go there at all unless you have to. read more

Not what I would call a very nice market. It attracts what I would call a different crowd. They have your typical variety of crap, fairly cheap prices, but just a dump aside from that. The people who work the register are friendly and all, bu they just don't have the best canvas to work with. Oh yeah, this is the same place friends in high school used to go to buy beer. Dumpy little grocery store in the ghetto part of town. Yes, Pleasanton does have a mildly dark part of town and this shopping center is part of it. When I look like absolute hell and don't want to go to the grocery store, I pop in and out of this divey little place and then get the hell home. They carry a good variety of things, but certainly not where you'd want to do your regular shopping. We go there when we need like cat litter or cat food or something else that is sold in a can and that's not refrigerated or from the freezer. Anything fresh there would lead me to ask how they define the word fresh. So we just steer clear. If it's not sealed by the mfg, then it's not coming home with us. Nice for last minute emergencies or when you are looking a little too special to want to go to the regular store where someone might see you. read more

I have lived in Pleasanton almost my whole life. When I was a kid it was fun to go to Coles. Over the years it has sold a couple times and it got to be a dark and dirty store that had rude employees and cheap as dirt crap products. So, I stopped going there for a few years. Then a few months ago I needed something and didn't want to go all the way to safeway... AND, now, they have 3 new owners that are awesome. The place is bright and friendly to the eye. They actually have the wine I like and the store is open and they have products I buy. These new guys are super friendly and actually talk to you and thank you for coming in. I was shocked. Coles is back to being a fun neighborhood corner store. read more

This is our corner market. We go here for all miscellaneous items. Recently Coles was purchased. The prices have raise exponentially and the quality has decreased. I picked up a pint of ice cream and when I got home and opened it I realized the ice cream had been defrosted and then refrozen. The best thing about Cole's market is it's proximity to my apartment. I can quickly pick things up and be on my way. Most of the people that shop here are the kinds of folks that like to do all of the following: buy liquor, smoke cigarettes, gamble with those lottery scratch card things, and wire money. UGH! This place should be re-vamped into something more useful like a neighborhood restaurant, coffee shop, insurance business ANYTHING! I am all for supporting the neighborhood businesses BUT these owners do not care about the neighbors that support them. The "employees" are always rude, and are not helpful. I like that it is in the neighborhood but there are lots of other choices nearby. The people from the barber shop are always drinking, smoking hanging outside of it. I come here pretty often. There's lots of variety of snacks and beverages. They basically have EVERYTHING. Food, water, school supplies, medicine, liquor, heat up lunch, condiments- heck, they even have some wrapping paper and vegetables in the back! I can't exactly guarantee all this stuff is fresh since I'm guessing not many people buy stuff beside drinks, candy, chips, and other junk though. read more
