Went here was so excited , got marinated meat for some tacos , I opened the bad it smelled so bad , the meat had gone bad and they try to cover it , by marinating it. I used to work in a Mexican market so I know. It get worse I got 2 pounds of queso fresco . Also was bad . This was disappointing I toss both items away . And will not go there any more . I really wanted to support a small, local business like Hidalgo's Little Market, but unfortunately, my experience left me feeling taken advantage of. I was shocked to spend $11 on just a 20oz bottle of Pepsi and a bag of potato chips -- $7 for chips and $4 for a soda is completely unreasonable, even for "organic" products. I shop at places like Whole Foods regularly, and even they don't charge those kinds of prices. When I asked the cashier to clarify, the response felt dismissive, as if I should just accept the markup without question. To make matters worse, as I browsed the store, I noticed several items that were past their expiration dates. If you're going to charge premium prices, the very least I expect is for the food to be fresh and safe to eat. That's just basic quality control. Unfortunately, between the inflated prices and expired goods, I can't recommend this store. I love supporting neighborhood spots, but this one left a bad impression -- both in service and value. read more

I love little neighborhood markets such as Hildago's. When I'm cooking and realize I need a lemon or an onion , no fret, I can walk over to Hildago's and grab a missing ingredient. I often cook my mother's Mexican food recipes from mole to enchiladas and it's very convenient to find all of the special spices and chilis needed for my recipes. read more

It really is a little market. Small, but mighty--literally packed wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with all sorts of Mexican goodies from meat and produce to piñatas and plaster figurines hecho en Mexico. They have fresh-made tomales--my favorite is the sweet corn tamale. They don't have the sweet corn tomales often, but they are amazing. Almost like a dessert! read more

This is our small Mexican market that's been here for a long time but I never went in before. I was surprised that it had everything I needed and it was much bigger that it looks from the outside. The ladies here always have an attitude. No greeting when you walk in just a stare. Kinda uncomfortable. When you ask them something they answer very rudely. I used to love this store with the last owners but now it just seems like we are bothering them with our presence. The prices are also high. read more

My review is based on 3 separate instances I have visited this store. My first I did not pay much attention. But after a few times of the same issue happening repeated times I want to bring awareness to the table so something is done by the owners to correct. I went to order at the meat department. Ask the employee at the meat department if he has the key to use the restroom because the door is locked. He responds very friendly and says no it is at the front of the store with the cashier. I proceed to the front of the store to the cashier to ask to use the restroom and I need the key. She says very rudely no I do not have go to meat department. I go to meat department again and tell the meat department clerk that the cashier says the he has it. He responds friendly and says no she has it. Finally I go back to the cashier and i say the meat department clerk says you have it. She then says rudely well I don't know where it is. I tell her i have visited the store in two previous visits to and you have said the same thing. You have me go back and forth. She answers in a VERY aggressive response saying "well what do you want me to do about it". I am shocked that in two other occasions this always seems to be the issue. She gives me the aggressive attitude even when she knows this is a problem. Why not tell the customer upfront the restroom is broken. Why not tell the customer we don't allow anyone to use the restroom. First of all this I am not sure if restrooms are a California law requirement for a business. But I will research. If you are going to have a grocery store and you sell food and you have a sign in front of door that says restrooms.... Please fix your bathroom! My ask is that you fix the bathrooms! In three separate occasions it happened to me. Another time this could happen to a pregnant woman. read more

There we were, all around the dinner table, spreading, filling, rolling, and tying. In 2 hours we made 200 Tamales - chicken, beef, cheese, and others. We wrapped them, steamed them, and served some of them on Christmas Eve. Not bad for a bunch of Gringo's. We obtained most of the needed ingredients, especially the Masa, at Don Memo's Market. They were helpful and friendly. But practice your Spanish before you get there. read more

Home made TAMALE Time! Not many mexican grocery stores in the Pleasanton area. In fact you have to head to Livermore, Hayward, or Fremont to find a big one, but fortunately Don Memo was nearby and open. This is a small store but fairly well stocked with groceries, baked goods, and some meats and cheeses. What I needed was the fresh ground masa and lard mixture for my tamales and they keep them in the walk in refrigerator behind the meat counter. I also picked up some fresh tortillas, both white and yellow corn. Off downtown Pleasanton location with very little street parking but supposedly (I saw a sign) parking in back. Don Memo saved the day as they were open late and gave me the chance to spend the night making home made tamales...fun! read more

Loved this place when I first move to the area 2 different occasion I got some expired kids yogurts my mistake for not checking the date second time I got a mad Mexican jello ( gelatina de mosaico) it was good worth the $5 dollars some weeks after went back grabbed 2 more when I opened one it was hairy and moldy yuck! It just seems like they don't check on their inventory it's sucks because it is my closest Mexican store and I wanted to continue supporting them but just a bit disappointed read more

*This review is for the tamales only* After getting a hot tip that this store serves up a mighty fine tamale I decided check it out. First off, they are located in a cooler behind the counter so save your self some time and head straight to the front. I'm not sure what types they usually have but when I went they had chicken, pork and jalapeno and cheese. I got all three for good measure. My interests are purely academic, of course. They were a tad on the small side but that was ok since they were only $1.75 a piece. Overall I think they were very tasty. The masa was tender and had a good flavor. The filling on the chicken and the pork needed a little kick however. I would say the best of the three was the jalapeno and cheese. read more

I LOVE this little store. It is small yet it carries so many Mexican products. My daughter found Mole Verde paste imported from Mexico and I rarely see that in other bigger Mexican stores. It was pricey at $30 but she bought it for me as it will be awhile before I go back to Mexico to buy it myself at way lower price like approx 60% less. However, I was also happy they had Natilla's de Cajeta from Mexico, my favorite. Occasionally, I have seen some produce looking bad but rather than complain here on Yelp, let store manager know and don't buy the item. Worst PLACE EVER! It looks like someone took their refrigerator food and laid it out in small sliding glass door coolers...and not even put lighting in it. The produce is nasty, and is worse than Walmarts on a bad day. And the rest of the store needs help. No cheeses, i was looking for Mexican cheeses...NOTHING! and they only have white corn tortillas...I grew up hating them, where are the yellow corn? Ok if you appreciate a good mexican meat market with reasonable prices this is it! I just cooked the pork that was seasoned and cut in small chunks....it was some of the best I have had hands down! Go straight to the back and go to the meat counter and get some meat. The butcher was friendly and offered me tastes of the Mexican cheese which I bought because it was fresh and delicious. Very disappointed! produce is very old and nasty. The produce always looks expired and moldy. I bought some sweet bamboo in a bag and when I opened the bag and bit into the bamboo, it did not taste sweet! it tasted sour like vinegar. I went back to return it. The Workers are very nice and friendly, but lets be real. If you're going to sell food make sure its fresh before you sell it to your customers. read more

This is a good one stop shop for most mexican groceries that you can't find in safeway. They have dried guajillo, ancho, pasilla, chipotle, and a few other common types and lots of spices like canela and epazote (no hojas de aguacate or yerba buena though). There is also a large selection of canned and dry items. They even find space for peruvian products in the tiny store. They have a small case of pan dulce and sometimes they have homemade tamales and pastes de carne y papa. You really should speak some spanish. Pick up some paletas before you leave. read more
