Located right in the same plaza as Giant, practically next door, this is a nice, kind of neighbourhood barbershop, and a big upstep from any of the nearby chains. The place is clean, the staff friendly, and the haircuts are good. I try to stop in whenever I need a haircut. However, one small word of warning: the place is cash only. They have an ATM on site, but it's one of the more expensive ATMs I've ever used -- the fee is $3.75 (and my bank then charges another $2.50 on top), so I have to add an extra $6.25 to my haircut price. :( They don't have any signage up saying, "Welcome to 1964, we're cash only," and finding out -after- you've gotten a haircut leaves you only the option of using their expensive machine. Also, NGL.... it is 2025. I've seen buskers with signs that accept card. Nobody carries cash anymore, and there's no legit reason to not accept cards. Pass that extra 3% or whatever on to me, it'd still be cheaper than the ATM fee. read more

Iv been coming to Colesville Barbershop for over 8 years now and I'm as happy today as I was the first day I walked in and out of there. The staff is very friendly and professional. My barber is Jimmy and he is skilled in the art of hair cutting and is a Master Barber. The owner of the business Carlos has cut my hair on occasions when Jimmy was on vacation or on leave and he is extremely talented and professional. The appointments can be hard to get because they're in such high demand but if you're lucky enough to get a cut here you'll leave happy. The barbers are booked via Genbook. The place is kid friendly,clean and most importantly COVID safe. The staff wears mask at all times and gloves up. The staff is constantly sweeping and the equipment is new and well taken care of. The parking lot is plentiful in spaces as well. Overall 10/10 experience. read more

I don't think this is where a female with short, naturally curly, type 3b, hair should go for a haircut. I recently decided to go grey and had cut my below shoulder-length hair short. I merely needed to have about 1 inch of the remaining dyed hair cut off and for two months of growth to be evened out. I asked if anyone in the shop cut curly hair The barber who offered to cut my hair has straight hair and English is not his primary language but I assumed he had experience. I told him I needed what I described above and asked if he would cut it wet. He said yes and applied his shaver to the sides of my hair before I could stop him. Needless to say, he cut it dry, except for an occasional spritz of water from a bottle. I have no idea how he would be able to tell how to cut it if it was dry and curly I have no idea why he applied a shaver to cut 1 inch from 3 inches of hair. I told him it was too short on the sides and asked why he wasn't cutting it wet. It was too late when I realized he didn't know what he was doing so I told him to even it out. The long and short of it is, I don't think he understands English well enough to follow directions, and is only used to cutting men's hair. And knows how to cut only one style. As he proceeded, he told me he works part time. I wonder if he just finished barber school I am very unhappy. It is too short. I look like a guy. When I was ready to check out, he added $10 to the price he quoted me when I first came in, even though he didn't have much to do and he knew I was extremely disappointed with my haircut. I don't know why the other barbers didn't cut my hair, knowing he is inexperienced. I paid what is posted and what was initially quoted -- $20. I regret that I tipped him. My mistake is that after reading the reviews of this shop, the barbers were experienced and understood customer requests. James cut my hair after I decided to come in for a walk-in and messed me up. I asked for a fade & a shorter cut in top. He didn't know what a fade was & gave me a cut I regret. Won't going there again. The other barbers are probably okay but I wouldn't know. If that's their standards for a barber then I don't want to risk it. read more

This review has been a long time coming because the Colesville Barber Shop is probably the best barber shop I've ever been to. The barbers and staff are really really nice people. Judy, Carlos, Brian, and everyone else each have their own personalities but all work to set an impressive calm culture each and everyday. Brian always has great contemporary music playing and you can tell the staff are a close knit family. The vibe is always amazing even though there's usually a long wait time. If you try to get a cut, ask for Carlos because in my opinion he's right up there with the best of them in the area. This is a pretty nondescript barbershop in the Colesville shopping center. It's easy to get to and there's plenty of parking. I came in mid-day during the week, so there were only a couple people ahead of me, with 3 barbers on staff. This was my first time, so I just went with the first available barber, a younger guy. I have mixed feelings - for $15 I don't expect too much, but it felt like a rush job. My barber was pretty quick with the clippers. The other two workers relied more on scissors and seemed more methodical. The end result wasn't bad, but I felt nervous the whole time. Lisa is a great barber. She listens to what you want and checks periodically to make sure it's looking the way you want it to. The only downside is that she is only there on Sundays. The environment at this barbershop is great too, they welcome all their customers and are very friendly and easy to talk to. You can do walk ins but I suggest doing appointments so you don't have to wait. I stumbled on this place by accident when I moved to the area a handful of years ago. I've moved around quite a bit over the last 15 or so years and have had a hell of a time finding just ONE good barber at any of the local shops. I can say without any reservations - after four or so years I've never gotten a bad haircut here - EVER. The place has a neighborhood feel and there are days that certain chairs have a wait three or four guys deep. WOW.... I have been searching for this barber in particular who was at this other Shop in Silver Spring. Now this spot is in a cool location and everyone seems to be nice. The place is clean and neat, some traits you don't see with barber shops at times. Yoon is the best!! I would recommend seeing her when you get there. At the previous shop, she would have 3-4 persons waiting while the other barbers chillaxed in their chairs. She got mad skills, remembered my style after 6 months, and ensures you leave the shop happy and most importantly looking good.
