Zena is amazing at haircuts and I can happily say I found my new Maryland stylist! Walking in the place is nice and clean and love the entry way decor. Love that they offer nail services as well. I came early and Zena was so kind and helpful with my hairs needs and I love that she knows the hair well! I came for a simple trim but ended up trusting Zena with my hair and willing to try curtain bangs. She did not disappoint! I haven't trusted anyone in awhile to cut my hair and it took me a minute to settle the feelings and embrace my new cut and once I did. I love it! My whole family loves it as well! Do not go to this salon! I booked a simple haircut appointment for my teenage son and they changed the appointment four times before they eventually canceled it at the last minute. Apparently, their incompetent stylist (Raquel) is only 19 years old and could not handle the type of cut that he normally gets done at Hair Cuttery. This information was given to me by the owner, Ryan, who requested photos of my son and the haircut he wanted in advance, which I found highly odd. I am shocked at the amount of good reviews this place receives. Recently went back for a haircut and color after being stuck at home during quarantine for so long. I desperately needed Zena to change my look and once again, she did not disappoint! My hair hasn't felt this healthy in awhile. The salon is limited in their operating hours and they are currently closed on Tuesdays so be sure to call as they only take clients based on appointments. Hands down best salon experience I've ever had!! Between the owner's responsiveness to my messages on Yelp and Yesenia's thoughtful and incredibly skilled care, I am in love with this place! I asked for a haircut with long layers. The front was not that: on one side there are a bunch of short layers, shortest is to my chin and on other there are fewer layers, and the shortest layer is several inches longer than the first side. It is a visibly different cut on each side. The people were nice and I liked the decor and that it wasn't pretentious, but the cut is what matters most to me. read more

This salon is soft of hidden away but so glad that I found Kimberly! I saw this place had good reviews and although I'm originally from the Arlington/DC area I needed to find a place that could cut Asian hair at reasonable prices. So I had my haircut here recently and I can tell Kimberly was very knowledgeable and experienced. She told me not to worry and the end result was great! I got more inches off than I expected, but I'm loving my new look. They are fairly priced at $45 for a women's haircut and shampoo/style. I would consider this a fairly good deal in the DMV area for Asian hair. Now the debate begins on whether I should dye it lol... **UPDATE on my review** I think this place is deserving of 5 stars however I want to add that now that my hair has had a few days to settle down I LOVE the new look and style! I feel like they should warn you that once you go short, you don't go back... The haircut I got was like a mix between a straight "lob" (which has been trending for years) and a trim with volume and face framing layers. I don't have an oval face so I especially appreciate the way Kimberly was able to make the haircut suit me. To top it off, my hair is probably more low maintenance now than it was before because it's much shorter! Huzzah! read more

I tried dip powder for the first time and the lady was very detailed and informative. She took around an hour on my nails which is quite a long time but I was also really satisfied with the results. I've been a box-dyer for nearly a decade. Never had any (visible or tangible) issues with it, and played around from a "chocolate cherry" to light brown, to cool chocolate in an attempt to hide my natural dark dark dark brown. My hair had always remained very shiny, soft, and manageable throughout the years, so I never stopped. I found Salon EFX from Yelp because I was so ready to take the plunge to go rose gold and I'll be 30 soon-ish and felt like I needed to do it NOW. All the reviews said the service was consistent and that the prices were reasonable, so I called and asked who/what I should do for corrective and creative color. The lady on the phone said it'd be best to walk in so I came in this past Saturday to have a chat. The salon is fairly close to my place and I'm familiar with the area, so it was very convenient. I spoke with Eric about expectations (here I was, another Asian trying to go light!) and cost. I was sold and told him I wanted to get started ASAP and he blocked off the very next day for my hair. I came in on Sunday, ready to come out a different person. Eric was a total professional and super personable - the session was made even more bearable by the KPop he had on. I had gauged four hours total, no more than six, and the total session fell right in between - five hours from 11:30 to 4:30. My tailbone was dead and I was worried my hair wouldn't "move normally" but it turned out great! He said my hair wasn't compromised and we had no banding trouble. It ended up a nice coffee color, totally work-appropriate as I make my transition to lighter color! The blending is very natural - I wanted to focus on just really maintaining the bleached portion so I ended up with a lower ombre/balayage, with a color close to my natural one up top (did not want to deal with roots). I cannot wait for my next session - hopefully my hair recovers quickly enough to get that second round of bleaching in soon! I'm glad that I found this place so close/convenient to my area, and with such a fun stylist. Eric is a young'un but he knows his stuff and I recommend him to anyone who's looking to change up their hair. Next time I'll have to bring snacks for the both of us! read more

Tom is AMAZING!!!! It's my first time having my haircut here. Made an appointment over the phone and they were able to accomodate me the next day right away. Tom owns the place. You can tell that he really, REALLY LOVES what he does. I asked for a layered cut with side bangs. Showed him a picture of how I wanted it to look like and he definitely delivered!!!!!! He's very meticulous in cutting your hair, making sure all sides are even. Before the haircut I had a Keratin treatment that lasted for about 15mins. Spent a total of 2 hours for Keratin treatment, wash, cut and blow dry. Mind you, I have a VERY thick and LONG hair, that's why it took forever... Paid around $110 for haircut and treatment. A very reasonable price for the kind of service you're gonna get. Will definitely recommend this place!! read more

I was getting my haircut for 5 years with Tom and he did a fabulous job! Sure he was late a couple of times handling two businesses isn't easy but he made up for it with a happy customer. Unfortunately, he stopped cutting hair but he recommended either Xena or Tina. Regrettably I chose Tina. I am such a loyal customer that I drive from Baltimore city. I ran into Oriole traffic so I contacted the salon to let them know I would be 10 minutes late. The receptionist assured me this was fine. I receive a call from the salon exactly 10 minutes after my appointment to let me know that I was too late and I would have to reschedule...I was exactly 5 mintes from the salon. I arrived at the salon and spoke to Tina in person. She could not get her story straight or she just spoke poor English (not sure which one). In summary, my appointment was for a trim and blow dry that should take 1 hour. Since I arrived 15 minutes late I told her just to wash and trim without blow drying. Make sense right? She refused and told me I could return 2.5 hours later. No customer service, poor communication and unprofessionalism at its best. Sad to say I won't return even, as I've read, if Xena is great! read more

Explained everything as she cut and why she was using a technique. Gave an honest assessment and eval of my hair condition, color, scalp. Without trying to aggressively sell anything to me, she gave me tips and advice that do not require products to manage my hair then discussed the products she was using on me with other affordable alternatives. Price surprising! I paid way more for a trim and side sweep that I was not happy with. Recommending to all my friends & all yelpers. I have wanted to try this salon for soooo long! I was too afraid to have someone else cut my hair. I needed a salon closer to home and based on the rave Yelp reviews I gave it a try. I tried booking with Xina based on reviews and pictures of her work but Kimberly only was available on such short notice. Kim did an awesome job! I came in with an a-line bob that had grown out a bit. I told Kimberly not to cut the back too short and to make sure the front is long. She did a meticulous job. Her cutting skills are so precise and on point. She really took her time and made sure not to give me puffy mushroom hair. The pictures do not do justice. I've had males tell me they like my new hair and usually guys like long hair. They did not color my hair... I got tired of my old ombre and colored it myself They were playing pretty nice music (pop/r&b), current magazines in the waiting area. Im soo hesitant when it comes to my hair because I'll never know if they'll do a good job or not but i came to this one because not only is it close to where i live but it had good reveiws( i came mainly because of the reveiws) but i went over there to get highlights and just so you know this was my first time getting my hair done professionally. My hairstylist was emily and she did such a great job on my hair i honestly didnt know what i wanted because my hair is black so i didn't know what color i wanted or how the process would be and emily did all of that! She didnt even have to bleach my hair and the color still came out great. Its not bright and vibrant but still a nice color for dark hair. She took her time and could tell that she cared and made sure i was a happy customer which i am! Definitely will be coming back so i can get a more brighter color in the future. Very happy with my nails! I went in with my friend the day before Valentine's Day as many people were doing last minute nails. Even though we didn't make any appointments, they still fit us in. The employees were very friendly. They kept asking if I wanted water from time to time. The lady who did my nails (sorry I forgot her name) was super nice. She also was super slow and detailed when doing nails. Even though that's good, if you go with someone, you might have to wait a long bit. Zena does a fantastic job with my Asian hair and I've made appointments to see her when getting 6"+ trimmed. She always makes sure that you feel comfortable and double checks on the type of cut that you want. While you may not be able to get an appointment with her a few days from weekend date that you want (trust me, I've called about this before), you'll at least be able to get an appointment the following weekend. What a hidden gem. I spontaneously decided that I wanted a haircut, called them to make sure they took walk ins, which they do, showed up, and they took me right away. Visited Salon EFX for an appointment with Emily today. This may be one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten! Emily took the time to really understand the look I was going for. At each stage, she confirmed length and shape, which made me feel like I was really in control. After the blow dry, I was blown away - she exceeded my highest expectations.
