Sometimes people can seem rude when they're "no bs" type of people. (My response to reading these other reviews). I was camping nearby and my battery decided to reach the end of its life. luckily someone in the next camp ground was able to jump my car. I bought a battery at another shop and came to Todd to have it smogged. After a quick switch out and then running a quick test to make sure everything was in order they sent me on my way with "don't worry about it". Being young and sometimes dumb (lol) but full of adventure this was just such a kindness that I'm truly grateful for. Thanks Todd for getting me back on the road! read more

My car broke down on the way to Tahoe, just past Colfax, so while waiting for the tow truck, I looked up repair shops in the area. Called Colfax Smog and Auto Repair, described my issue, and Todd said to bring it right in. His team looked at it, did some thinking outside the box with some creative testing and diagnosed the problem in less than an hour. Todd and his crew were very nice, honest, and super patient with me as I tried to wrap my head around the complexity of the issue. Reading the reviews, most of the negative is about attitude. Yep. Todd is very direct and wants direct answers. We were stuck in Colfax because of shoddy work from an automotive shop back east. We're on our trip home in the Napa area. Todd dropped everything and got us to a point where we could get home safely and with sound guidance on what to do as our next step. He knows what he's talking about and is very helpful. If you need work on your car, use him. read more

Very arrogant service at the counter. Poor customer service. Took too long (a week) to get a small part to achieve passing on smog.

Attempted to have work done on my vehicle a couple months ago and walked in on the owner loudly arguing with a customer. When it was over the owner looked at me and made a rude comment about a hoodie I was wearing. I left and was hoping it was just a bad day for him. Today I called to schedule a smog appointment and "Tod" was completely rude on the phone and interrupted several times to tell me "that answer didn't help me". Todd was a huge help! We were leaking a lot of radiator fluid right at the time of closing. He wasn't able to help us, but he went out of his way and got us in touch with a mobile repair service that got us up and running again. And Todd followed up with us afterwards to make sure everything went okay even though we were just passing through the state on our way back to Utah. He saved us about $5,000 in produce loss by getting us the help we needed for our refrigerated van. read more

Just a couple of nice guys working out of an old gas station. Todd and Ron run a nice little business the Colfax way. They are laid back and friendly while efficiently taking care of the job. They told me my smog check would take about 20 minutes but it was ready in 15. Ron is an ASE Master Technician - that's a big deal. I love it when I can do business locally. Todd and his crew are great. They are honest and will tell you the truth. They helped me with a tune up on my Subaru as well and now a broken heater core. I always find it hard to feel good about an auto repair place but now I drive two hours just to get my car fixed. They also have chains available! read more

Ive been taking my diesel truck to Ron and Todd for the last few smog checks. Ron has been a great help and he couldve and shouldve charged me an arm and a leg but didnt, several times. They are kinda weird at first...but they grow on you, like a fungus. Love em and would recommend them as one of the best in placer county. Keep up the good work! read more

I went in for a California smog check,oil and transmission change. I was really impressed with staff and have scheduled an appointment next week to get a major job done (as suggested by Honda at certain mileage). They have a lot of local business which seems a good indicator and they went into detail with me as well. I found recommend. read more

Had car problem enroute to Reno from Bay Area. Battery indicator came on but battery was charged (could start car with no problem) as we left lunch in Colfax. It was Friday afternoon around 1 PM and I thought we were stuck! I asked where we might find mechanic and these guys were recommended. What a pleasure. Ron was able to quickly diagnose the problem - alternator had failed (bearings were hot and noisy and must have just failed -- I had heard the noise when I had started up so I was not surprised). He was able to get a replacement alternator and get us back on our way in less than three hours. When we came back to pick up the car we also met Todd. Both of these guys are so customer friendly that you really feel great doing business with them. We made it to Reno for dinner and then back home on Sunday night and all is working just fine. Nice to know that you can go to these guys and not be taken advantage of just because you are stuck. Price was fair and service great. read more

Rude!! I wanted to support a local business. Never again. I will never come back. They have all the time in the world since they're slow which gives them time to nit pick every little thing. I recommend go to a quick smog 'N go place in Auburn or Roseville. Also the guy kept telling me my cat was new. Unless someone came to my house in the middle of the night and put a new cat on my car, the cat is not new. It's 6 years old. Does that count as new? This place also charges $15 more for a smog than all other places in Auburn. In addition, he charged me for a certificate when no certificate was issued. Then I had to beg for a retest in two weeks when other places automatically offer one. My suggestion is take your business to Auburn. Todd is a jerk!!!!! read more

No one else was willing to help us, but the gentleman at this shop was took the time to take a look at our problem and gave us a diagnosis. Had to get the car smogged this year and this little shop came highly recommended. I called to schedule an appointment and was able to get in the following morning. Todd was ready to go when I arrived and I was back and on my way down the road in less than 30 minutes. I did notice the higher price for smog when compared to shops down the hill but I try to stay local if possible despite slightly higher costs.It is more expensive but life in general is more expensive to live in a small community.Well worth the price difference to avoid traffic and crowds down the hill. My AC went out just outside of Sacramento. Could take the heat no longer, so pulled over in Colfax and prayed that I would not get ripped off. Ron and Todd were just great! I have NEVER written a Yelp review, so this says a lot! I You can feel safe and assured that these guys will do you right! Our awesome AAA guy, that I will call Leo the Lion gave the recommendation for this shop and they do awesome work. They also are very personable, real people who were great company as we waited a few hours for our friend's to come pick us up. My car's radiator went out on a Friday on our way to Reno. They ordered the part and had me up and running early Monday morning. Great service. Great people! I don't expect magic on a Friday, but was super grateful for a great job on Monday!!
