I was checking the different brake service places in Colfax. This had the best reviews and when I looked at it yesterday and realized they were actually open on a Sunday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The following day, I arrive to my appointment 10 minutes early, and I was instructed by Matt what they were going to do.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I was in their weight room, I met a friendly local lady here for service as well. The waiting room was clean and organized with a vending machine but water was available. The lady and I had a nice conversation while we were waiting. The time went by quickly and it had been probably a half hour when he returned with good news. My brakes were in really good shape and so were my tires. I had a check engine light come on while driving east on 80 and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. I pulled off at the next exit and there was Big Brand Tire & Service. I signed up to have them check the error codes and while it took a bit of time (they were quite busy) Herb got the codes, checked out the engine and researched what he could do with the codes. They were all beyond what his shop could do without risking my warranty so he finished up with some advice and didn't charge me a thing. Car started shuddering like crazy and realized it was a tire issue with the outside of the tire fat and inside skinny. We were almost in no-man's land between Colfax and Truckee and made a call to the last outpost, Big Brand. We were traveling to go camping and had the car packed. I expected to pay an arm and a leg and wait for hours or overnight, and have dudes who wanna capitalize on cost for being the last outpost for miles. The opposite. my girlfriend came here for a quote on a squeaky passenger wheel, they quoted her $1100!!! ~$700 or something for parts and the rest for labor. they claimed her rotors were "beyond repair" and the calipers were messed up. I jacked her car up and took the wheel off.. rotors were a little worn not bad at all and calipers were completely fine, maybe just needed some grease on the bolt. brake pads were needed to be replaced on the side that was making noise because that's what they're supposed to do when they need to be replaced. grand total i spent replacing her brake pads? $23. i would highly advise never coming here, this place is extremely predatory for people that don't know what's going on. no wonder they offer a "free inspection" they just want to see what they can charge you. $1100!!!!! they wanted $1100 for brake pads!!!!! read more

I regularly buy my tires from Big Brand. Whenever I have a concern with a tire, I get immediate service. A couple of times it was just a low tire so they put air in. Competent management and staff. They put on my snow tires with rims and noted that all 4 were mounted for use on the right hand side due to the rotation direction indicated on them. (I had bought them online.) They caught this, showed me the issue and remounted and rebalanced 2 of them for use on the left as is appropriate. Driving back to the Bay Area from a weekend away, the fender liner on one of my tires became loose and started scraping the tire, forcing me to stop every few minutes and keep pushing it back into place. It wasn't a major catastrophe, but I couldn't keep driving like that all the way home. I wasn't sure I could find a place open to help me with this late on a Sunday afternoon, but Matt answered the phone and said, "no problem, come on over." I arrived twenty minutes before closing time (on superbowl Sunday, no less!!), but his team provided a quick, effective, very reasonably-priced fix, and I was able to drive home without any further problems. I worked for a big brand tire. I had an injury which required an amputation on my right foot. I did not have any income at all. I reached out to big Brand tire for some financial help. They turned a blind eye, and left me on my own, what a lousy company to work, for they would not even help their employee out with financial compensation for a person that was loyal. I had a flat tire about 10 miles from this place. The tire needed a simple repair. When I made it to the tire shop at about 9.30am, they told me they couldn't take me in that same day anymore. This was for a 5 minute repair work! I have never experienced anything like this. I think the tire shop has a moral obligation to help with flats, this was simply bad attitude of the shop. They made me drive 15 more miles to the next tire shop. Don't go there! read more
