I hired movers from the Clive, IA location. When they moved the refrigerator, the neglected to shut off the water to hose for the refrigerator. They knew it was leaking as they put towels on the puddle. I they never said anything to me. If they had, I would have shut the water off. The valve was right there. Then they left. That was 12:30pm. They unloaded the truck at my new residence and never said anything. The scratch up my bedroom door moving a table and never mentioned to me. At 4:00 am the next morning, I received a call from the Warren County sheriff's department. They were trying to reach me about a leak in my unit causing water damage to the ceiling of the unit below mine. They shut off the water for the whole building until I could return to my unit and determine what was leaking. It was the fridge hose still running. There was so much water damage to the unit below That she will have to replace her entire kitchen ceiling. When I called the manage of the Clive location, they said it is not their responsibility and he is not responding to my messages. read more

After listening to the recording, I would love to hear your explanation for your team not bringing out the 440sft truck that was quoted and instead bring out this much larger truck, filling it 25%, and then charging us $1300 when the 440sft truck for $549 would have worked just fine. The fact is your team knew that we were moving and needed be out that day (because we hired you to do the move as well) and used that urgency to rip us off. This was a very frustrating experience. The actual guys that came and picked up our junk were nice and polite. Whoever they were facetiming with, I'm assuming their manager, really made the situation horrible. First off, we were quoted $109 for 1/8 of a truck. They showed up with what looked like a U-Haul trailer instead of a truck, and it was already mostly full. I stated when I booked my appointment that I had 2 trash cans of construction debris that needed to be emptied, along with other items we needed hauled away. It was not a lot of stuff. The manager looked at our junk pile (facetime) and raised the price to over $200, then they refused to take the construction debris which is why I called in the first place. My wife convinced them to take one container, but they would only do so if we allowed them to take our garbage can along with the debris. Not a good experience, I should have read the reviews before booking them. read more

I have used college hunks in the past for junk removal so when I needed some items moved I called them. The scheduling and pricing was honest and up front. They called me the day of the move to notify when they were coming. Nate and Dre were awesome. They moved a king size mattress out of the basement with some difficulty, but they were positive the whole time. I was able to add some chairs that I hadn't planned to move that day and they agreed to move them for me. On a side note, they even helped me with the old bed frame. I don't like to give bad reviews but the two men that moved me directly across the parking lot a week ago were terrible. I had multiple items of furniture that I found broken. My bed frame that was moved by the same company with the same amount of men four years ago were able to get it up my stairs in my loft with no problem years ago...and I've moved the frame multiple times with no issues even across state lines...and the two men that were working with me were essentially refusing to move it down the stairs and I gently mentioned how it's been moved before and they finally moved it but now it is all scuffed up with black marks. I had multiple boxes with soiled clothes that I had wrapped up so there was no reason they should have been wet. Not to mention even though I was patient and paid over $1000 with tip for them I heard one of them talking about me when I went back to my old apartment to grab some things. Not to mention one of the men insulted the previous management team directly to me. Even though their team did a much better job then. Completely inappropriate and unprofessional. The Hunks carried 1 BOX AT A TIME and milked the clock for 4 hours only to tell us once the job was 1/2 complete that they had to leave. They brought no dolly, no tools, and brought no blankets (which I requested when I set up the appointment). The guys were nice, but it was an absolutely awful experience. We had to hire another team to finish the job that the Hunks couldn't/wouldn't complete. I called the office and asked to speak to the Franchise Owner/Manager. I have yet to receive a call back. I used these guys two years ago and I'm still replacing everything they broke!!! I was moving to a new apartment from the north side to the south side....after unpacking I realized why they have you sign an agreement saying they would be held responsible for any damage or lost items...unpacking box after box I found something broken in each and every box!!! if i could give them a -5 i would because as I said I'm still replacing things but what's worse is all the many things my sister, mom, and dad had given me before they died from cancer...all the many things and nine can be replaced! so as I said a -5 I would not hope they moved my darkest of enemies read more

My experience with College Hunks was unparalleled. The help I received was absolutely incredible. I will begin my review with my experience on the first day of my move. I ended up in a bind when I had scheduled some terrible movers from another company and ended up scrambling to find someone to help us just a few hours later. I called College Hunks and they sent out two amazing gentlemen, Kyle and Carver, just three hours later who were ready to help unload things from a U-Haul into my new house with a smile, a can-do attitude and the efficiency of a well oiled machine. Kyle and Carver arrived at my house, got the lay of the land, looked us in the eyes, shook our hands, treated us and my furniture with the outmost respect and care. They worked so incredibly hard and kept an upbeat attitude the entire time. A COMPLETE 360 from what I had experienced earlier in the day with another moving company, when they arrived it was like the sun came out and the heavens parted! The second day of my move, Kyle and Trevon came out to help us getting things from my apartment to my new house. Again, they were uniformed, professional, kind, and SO hardworking. I have to give extra props to Kyle. We had him help us two days in a row and I have never seen someone work so hard, be so kind and be engaging during the process. He got everything done and did it with a smile and a positive attitude. He is the epitome of what you would want in someone helping you during a stressful move. (Request him if possible!) This group may seem a bit more expensive and costly to haul junk away extreme, but it was worth every penny. They were able to book as soon as I needed when I contacted them, on the day of my choice. Arrival was well executed with calls ahead to let me know exactly when the would be here. They estimated my bill upon see what needed to be hauled away. Nice feature this service doesn't take everything to landfill, but recycles and delivers items where best utilized - Habitat Restore, Salvation Army. Goodwill, or others. Two trucks, 3 guys sorted and separated my junk and unusables in an hour & were done and outta here. Literally the worst service Ive ever had! I wish I could give them 0 stars! They showed up over 2 hours past the time they told me they would arrive. then got to my place, loaded up half of my things and then refused to finish the job and left. I was told by the manager that I would get my deposit back, but I've been waiting almost a month for it and have contacted them many times. absolutely terrible customer service, and not the least bit professional. I hired College hunks to help move my storage into my brand new house. When they pulled up only one was in a partial uniform didn't look professional at all. Then they proceed to damage my floor by dropping equipment on it and then the trash mud all through my house on brand new carpet. Two of them just showed up in ripped up clothes didn't represent the company well at all. They used a lot of foul language not what I was expecting from reading reviews. read more

We hired College Hunks to move our belongings from two different locations within a 10 mile radius of our new location. Through no fault of their own- they were 2 1/2 hours late as the appointment before ours added a lot of items to their move and did not tell the movers that they had more until the movers arrived to move them. Fast forward to when they arrived to us - Dylan, Austin M. and Zane arrived and had everything loaded from the first location in 20 minutes. Granted, we had everything ready for them in a garage and everything was wrapped and ready to go. Then had the items from the first location unloaded and up a flight of stairs within a half hour. They got to the next location to pick up items and moved them all from a basement to their truck within 20 minutes and then had those items also unloaded and up a flight of stairs within 15 minutes . All in all those three guys worked every moment of this move and did not stop until the job was done - in less than 2 hours. Amazing work guys! You did a fabulous job. Hopefully we won't need to use you again but if we do need movers again, I won't hesitate that you will be the ones we will call. Had a schedule for 2:30-4:30 move. Never showed up. Called them, gave me 3 excuses; 1 truk got in accident, 2 flat tie & 3 "my guys want to go to the state fair". Told them I needed moved( my whole apt bldg was given 30 day notice to leave) after I said I could reschedule 5 mins later called them back and told them I couldn't because of the date. I needed to be out by Saturday at latest. He text me and says we'll be there Saturday, no time. I rented a truck all I needed was there labor, truck company charged me triple because of being over time. Now I have no truck so told him I need yours he said "yes ma'am". Didn't show all day Saturday I was waiting on them. Called him said they'd be there within hour at 1pm no show. So I had to call my family & friends at 4pm to come into des moines to help me move, paid them gas money and for there services. DO NOT TRUST THEM, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM read more

We hired two of their movers in September and discovered our PlayStation 3 was taken during the move. The initial call I placed was never returned; I followed up with the corporate office to file a claim. I was promised the issue would be resolved within 3 days. Two weeks later and I still had not received a call back. I called their corporate office again and given the phone number of manager/owner, Kyle Lynch, to reach out to, as the corporate representative said he made no movement on the claim. I called Kyle, left a voicemail with details about the THEFT that took place, and never heard back. I physically went into their office on Hickman Rd, where one of the employees called Kyle, who answered on the second ring. The employee told me that the claim had to go through corporate and that he would reach out to me in the next 1-2 days. I never heard from Kyle. I called corporate again today and filed a second claim. Their office has not been able to get a hold of Kyle either. It is abundantly clear that Kyle Lynch, the "owner", is avoiding dealing with and taking responsibility for an issue that his business has caused us. Not even an apology has been issued. I have called him every hour on the hour today, and no answer. If anyone wants, at the very least, average customer service starting with ownership of the company in dealing with the problems that they have caused, look elsewhere because Kyle Lynch and College Hunks are the opposite of what their name advertises. TERRIBLE ownership, TERRIBLE management and TERRIBLE customer service. We have filed a complaint with the BBB and our next step is to file a police report. read more

If I could give this company negative stars I would. The only time I ever had a half way professional experience was when I called the 1800 number to book the move. Every time I called and asked a question after that no one ever knew the answer and gave me the run around. My sister and I both moved out of our apartment on two separate days. We both had requested wardrobe boxes for our hanging clothes and when they showed up on Wednesday they said they had "run out" the day before- what?! How do you run out of reusable boxes?! Then when I called to confirm my move they told me I'd have to provide boxes for my televisions when I had never been told- and when I complained they said that it wasn't their problem because they're a different office than the 1800 number I called. The woman was not even close to sympathetic to me and completely unprofessional. After that phone call I just had a bad feeling about the actual move but I tried to tell myself I was just being anxious as I do suffer from anxiety disorder. Then this morning (the morning of my move) my worst fears were confirmed when the moving company told me that due to the fact that I had complained that they wouldn't be coming. I have worked in customer service for the better part of a decade and I have NEVER been treated like this in my life. When I immediately got upset I had my mother speak to them while I calmed down. When they spoke to her they said that they wouldn't be coming because they didn't want to deal with me because according to him my sister and I are "crazy bitches" his word not mine. Then they said they are "a 5-star company and that we aren't 5-star people". When my father tried to call to work something out the young man he spoke to said "I don't have time for this s**t" and hung up on him. When calling around for other movers they told us that they were not surprised that this happens and that this company is known for stuff like this. I luckily got a new mover who will be doing my move for much cheaper and seems much more professional. If you are moving in the DSM area DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. By calling me and my sister crazy during a very stressful time they have shown they are insensitive of what their customers are going through while moving. If mental health and piece of mind is important to you call someone else besides a company who uses stigmatizing and lewd language like "crazy bitches".
