The brunch buffet was incredible. Everything was displayed so elegantly in a private room and the tables were decorated nicely. Each brunch item, complete with Mimosas, was absolutely delicious. When you think of a retirement community you may be one of the people that thinks of a sad place where people are put to be forgotten. That's certainly not the case at all with Edenwald. It felt like a bustling community to me. More than once I thought "I wouldn't mind ending up at a place like this someday." Security wise there is a person manning the front desk at all hours of the day. Ask that person for the guest Wi-Fi password. There is a lobby where you can sit and wait for people where there is also a gift store. I didn't see it but apparently they have a fitness center and pool here. On the activity board they have a listing of all the activities that are taking place on site. They also offer multiple day trips to interesting sites around the area. If you don't want to drive to do errands they will take you places such as Trader Joe's. They have multiple restaurants on site. I got to sample two of them. One of them was a casual cafeteria. The other one was what we called "the pub", which serves alcohol. There is also a fancy pants restaurant across from the pub, but they enforce a dress code. I wasn't doing backflips over the food, but it was much better than I expected and I enjoyed my meals. I thought the nicest thing about the living quarters was that once you go inside and close your door it just feels like an apartment. You have a fully stocked kitchen, which is nice. Even though you have your privacy there are ways in the bathroom and bedroom to alert the staff that you need help. All the amenities in the world wouldn't matter if the people weren't treated right. I have to say I was constantly interacting with friendly people. Multiple times on the elevator the residents would be cracking me up. One man told me that he hoped I wasn't going to the 25th floor because that was his private penthouse. If you have an aging relative who wants their independence but could use the safety/security of assisted-living I can't think of a better place then Edenwald.

All levels of care are equally nice - from Independent Living (where my parents started out), to Assisted Living (when my dad eventually needed more care before he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away), and to Memory Care (where my mom currently is). The staff is very personable, they personally know their residents, and they really do care and engage to make this a bright and enjoyable place for seniors to call home. I am very grateful for the care that Brightview provides my mom, and I highly recommend them!

Went to visit my dad yesterday- this is NOT a church, it's a retirement community with independent…read more(my dad) and assisted living wings. Residences are nice- essentially decently sized full apartments- full kitchen, W/D in bathroom, balconies on some units, my dad has 1 bedroom and a den...very clean, nicely furnished, no pee or yucky smells associated with old folks homes!!, lots of activities like bingo, folk singers, yoga, movies (has a small theatre), etc. Part of the deal is breakfast - mediocre, store brand breads and bagels for toast, juices (including prune!), cold cereals , yogurts, nice fresh fruit salads though, hard boiled eggs, microave oatmeal packets, stale pastries...and dinner-- where we were last night! Pretty decent home cooking-style- you sit down with a menu, teenage in tux shirt takes order- you can pick soup or salad, one of three entrees, 2 of 4 sides, you get a roll, and you get a list of deserts. Sodas, juices, (prune again!) coffee/tea (bag Lipton) included...they have a litte longe you can eat in, too, and spend a few bucks for beer or wine...or store your own liquor in a locker and the staff will mix you a drink with free mixers! (sadly, my dad is not into that...) We had a pleasant meal- decent romaine salad with tomato slice and cucumber slices, fresh and crisp, really amazing good blue cheese dressing- big chunks of cheese!; sweet, somewhat tasty clover roll with real butter but a but dry from overstay in warmer; turkey was fresh, moist, flavorful, over a thick slice of industrial style white bread and a large slathering of canned but tasty gravy, real mashed tater, more gravy, really good colllards or steamed broccoli- broccoli was obviosly frozen, but buttery and well cooked; dessert was caramelized pears and ginger bread for me - pears were good, ginger bread was box mix, but caramel iceing was taaasty!...overall, a good home-style meal. If you have any realitves here, it's not a bad way to eat for 12 bucks....and the relatives appreciate the company! Dining room is comfy and formal, too- very nicely decorated in a formal, flowery, grandma style. Note: this is one of the most expensive communities around!! Other places start at 2500.00 per month no deposit for same type service vs 4 grand here!! Unless dead set on area shop around! My dad now in Atrium Village- with full assisted living services he still pays less than he paid here for basic Independent! And Atrium is just as nice

Found the Oak Crest Sales Department friendly, and I looked forward to living there. Then, I moved…read morein. The painting had not been done, and when they got around to painting the walls, there was only one maintenance man, and he dragged my furniture across my oriental carpets to paint the walls. There were frequent notes left with long winded notes of work to be done, and why it was being done, etc. One morning I tried to call in my dinner order, and the answering machine said they would call me back. When they did not, I called again, only to find they were closed for that day. Most of the employees were pleasant, and hard working. The mail was delivered late afternoon. I found it best to pick up mail in the morning, when the area was not closed off. Missing having my car in a garage, they said the cars were shoveled out when it snowed, found out there was a charge. The "Fine Dining" is laughable. Any chicken served was a thigh, or leg, which I do not like. Their farm raised fish is loaded with pesticides. With 2k people having dinner each day, they could not prepare each one at the time of order. (Nice photo of a chef with a saute' pan.) With the way Oak Crest was for well residents, I could not take a chance of ever being in assisted living, or any nursing care Oak Crest was running. When trying to move out, the Move Out official ranted and raved at me, I knew I made the right decision. Gave the information requested, along with my badge, and keys to the receptionist, and left the senior prison. Now I cook my own food in less time than trying to order it, or waiting for a table in one of their 'fine restaurants' where food comes our of one kitchen. Many people are happy at Oak Crest, I was not one of them.

Senior living at its best !…read more I have to admit I don't like the idea of retirement communities. I think you have a vision of depressed seniors, alone and bored. Well not anymore. What a great senior living model. You have to look past wheel chairs and walkers. (We will all have challenges in our senior years!) A friendly, loving environment. The friendships that develop. The activities are many. Gym, pool, cards. Volleyball. New residents coming in are made very welcome. The staff are just wonderful. Management to food servers you receive the service and consideration You deserve. Maintenance response is efficient. Their are many restaurants. I've eaten in most and find the food quite good. There are venues to serve the needs of all. Cafeteria style to fine dining. Indoor or outdoor. Even happy hour! The gym is state of the art. I wish the gym in my community was this stellar. My only concern is I won't save enough money to live here!!!!

She was in the hospital and rehab and to be released on Christmas eve. I was at a loss who would help me as I am not able to care for her on my own. I called Steve and Aremah at Comfort Keepers in a panic and they met with me immediately and had aides at her apartment the next day and thereafter until she passed away 24/7. They saved me and I believe they prolonged my mothers life. They were kind, supportive and caring, and I could not have asked for better aides. They took care of ALL my moms needs and took her to bingo and activities to keep her mind as alert as possible until almost the very end. The aides were in constant contact with me during the day, and I went over every evening to see my mother and speak with the aide of the day. One of the aides actually took my mom to lunch with her husband at IHOP. My mother talked about that for days. My mom was always clean, dressed well and seemed very content. Never did I have to worry that she was not cared for. Please, if you need help...call Steve and Aremah. They really do care, it is more than a job for them. Thank you again Comfort Keepers

Kind of nice looking place, on old maryland land…read more Was once a great place apparently. The main building, p section has some burnt out nursing aides on a couple floors. They seem unsupervised and unaccountable. Very moody. With no real incentives to motivate them. So they have no problem ignoring client requests. Especially when the requests are for things that fall out of range of the aide's assigned rooms, turf, etc...even though they're are in the same hallway and subsection, behind the same closed corridor. And the food in the dining room is often disgusting. Overcooked, and or totally wrong temperature, etc. With a slow clean up too! Maybe if upper management could do surprise visits, and also rotate folks to variety areas, giving some recognition, the staff would behave more nicely to the residents, who, in fact, through having to sell their homes, and grab medicaid, to finance their stay, are the ones paying the worker salaries! Does that reminder need to keep being done? How much would involvement with the Department of Aging and even news reports help with this overdue management improvement??? The baby boomers are a massive market, as the nursing home and smarter politicians know.
