This is how service stations all used to be except this one still is. I do not know of another service station that exists like this one. They will come out and pump gas for you. They change oil and even over engines. This business is no where close to be a convenience store. They only have a cokes and a couple candy bars inside. I've always had pretty good service at Collegedale Exxon. We swing by here all the time for gasoline and other things like that. The guys who run the place are always honest and respectful. They do honest work and that's a must have for mechanics. I've used them to repair and alternator and various other jobs. I've also had them tow my vehicle. This isn't a convince store though. Don't expect to get cold fountain drinks and snacks. I recommend this place. read more

The mechanic area does not accept appointments and it is first come , first serve. They are unable to give any timetable on when they can look at your car or work on it. It is difficult for me to not have a car and not know when I will get it back. I called this morning to see if they were busy today and could look at my car. The mechanic replied in a sarcastic tone' "it's Friday". I asked him what that meant. He said they are always busy on Friday. He was unpleasant throughout the call and couldn't tell me for sure if they would be able to work on my car today if I brought it in. I only have one car and it is difficult for me to be without a car for an undetermined amount of time. However, the tire and gas station portion of the business usually has friendly staff. My wife and I were going for a Sunday ride around noon on our motorcycle. We stopped to fill up at J B Underwood's Exxon station at 4 corners in Collegedale. My battery died after filling up. While, one on the mechanic's was very nice and trying to help me. The owner, J B Underwood, came out to tell me to move my motorcycle. I told him my wife would be right back within minutes with a new battery. Completely unprovoked, he said I need to move the F****** motorcycle right then. I move it to another area on the lot, walked over to tractor supply to buy the necessary tools walked back over and with 5 minutes replaced my battery. he obviously did not want to help or actually do his job. I have never seen someone, much less an owner of a business, be so disrespectful to a customer and a member of the community. After looking at reviews and discussion with others in community, it seems this is a common problem at J B Underwood's Exxon. It is greatly concerning to think of my Wife or Children might have a car problem and need help from this person. Maybe J B Underwood needs to retire if this is how he is going represent our community and small local owned businesses. Unless you know the owner or people there, be prepared to be treated second class citizen. I paid to have something repaired and they only partially repaired it. I stopped by multiple times after trying to get them to finish the work correctly and the manager always said they were too busy. I guess they already had my money so whats the motivation for trying to help me out. I guess if you know them and have been going there for 15 years you are probably treated right but if not I would not steer clear of this place. I was lied to right to my face by the owner, he just chuckled and said lets just say we "agree to disagree". An old time shop would stand by their work, and if it was not done the right the first time would get you in first. So yeah I like all the nostalgia about this being like the gas stations of old, but unfortunately the customer service is far from it. read more

This is the worst shop I have been to. I am a college student who only works about ten hours a week.... so I make nothing. I took my car in bc the check engine light was on. They told me my car had sensors going out and that it was going to cost close to 200 dollars. Also they said my gas cap was not tightened all the way... well I told them I needed to check and see if it was something I could fix myself. So I picked up my car and got charged $50.80 and all they did was take my car back for ten minutes and tightened the gas cap. Also my car was showing no more codes. Christian people I think not. Dishonest crooks is more I like it. Also I didn't want to rate them any stars but yelp made me. I give them ZERO stars. read more
