This place looked promising. I don't really know what i was expecting. Their menu is burgers, hot dogs, and grill cheese, in various forms. It was decent food, but I wouldn't really say worth paying $5 for the burger, without fries coming with it. I ordered fries, bacon burger, and a coke. The staff was very friendly, the cleanliness was....okay. The salt shaker I used, (because the fries had no seasoning at all) was caked with gross stuff. It's nice to support a place that has been open since the 1940's, so I give them that. They kinda have a VARSITY look to them, if you are in the mood for that, go ahead, but I can't really say I will be back. read more

Great burgers and fries. Definitely try the milk shakes. But make sure that you get there not at a busy time. The staff was rather flustered and locked the front door so no one else could come in - probably not the safest or smartest thing to do. read more

I've been to the Collegiate Grill several times. The first 2 times I was unimpressed and thought it was too expensive for what it was. However, I like the food and the diner feel so I keep coming back. The strawberry shake wasn't sweet enough for me, but the orange shake is delicious. I always get a burger and share fries with my wife. We come here instead of Five Guys now for burgers. Priced the same but we've had much better experiences here. read more

Pretty basic dinner style eatery serving predominantly burgers. Burgers were solid, cooked well, and topped with fresh ingredients. We also ordered a small fry and a shake which were both decent. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Place looks a little run down and out of date- way past its hay-day, and not in a charming throwback kind of way. Sprucing the place up a bit would give the place much more appeal and be more on par with their food. read more

I was visiting Gainesville for a wedding and was told Collegiate Grill was just named Georgia's best hamburger. I imagine whoever said that made quite a stretch cause I am sure GA has better burgers elsewhere (I hope)! But the side salad was fresh and the milkshake hand dipped and delicious. Found the Collegiate while driving back from a road trip into NC from Atlanta. Staff was friendly with fast service. Burgers and fries were good and reasonable priced. Much better than pulling off the highway for those other fast food joints. read more

Food was less than adequate burgers are a little to greasy, fries had nothing special about them the atmosphere was pretty cool and retro.

Gotta love a local business like this. The burgers are tasty, the fries are fresh cut and the service is fantastic. I really like this place and would have given them a 5 except that the hot dog was just not good. My advice, stick to the burgers and fries and you will be pleased! read more

Horrible. The burgers are the quality of what you expect at a fair ground. The hotdogs were the same. The food was served on paper, I had to ask for a paper plate. The staff was rude and uncaring. Definitely not worth the over priced, lack of option menu. read more

Great burger-dog-fry-n-shake place. Simple menu, great food. Loved the slaw on dogs & burgers and hand-dipped shakes. Across the street from the Ga Mountain Center parking garage which has plenty of parking & less than a block off the square downtown. Seat yourself & one of the college-age wait staff will get your drinks & take your order. Everythings prepared fresh. We arrived @ 12:15 with a full lunch crowd, out in less than 45 min ...would have been quicker if we'd seated at the counter. Food's better than the Varsity, just not as quick. We got a cheeseburger and a chili cheese dog from here. This is the closest that we found from a place that we go to up north called Bill Grays and Tom Wahls for cheeseburgers. It is expensive here for fast food. It has a 50s diner atmosphere. The fries left a lot to be desired. Not much taste and a little soggy. We would go back for everything else though. read more

Came across this place and it did not disappoint for the price, great cheeseburger, awesome homemade fries, and best of all they wipe the tables with paper towels and not wet disgusting towels! Service was great, food took a little long and they don't open on Sunday's! read more

Better than fast food but not super amazing. The milkshakes are good. Not a huge fan of their fries, but that's just my preference. Some people may like them. Its a good place to go for just a simple burger or hot dog. read more

Great place to eat. My daughter had the double bacon cheeseburger and fries. Best burger by far. I had the BLT. Everything is fresh. Service was great, atmosphere was great. First time eating here but won't be the last. Love the family pictures on the wall and the original decor. Just moved to the area and I'm so happy to have walked upon this place. Eating out at a locally owned business is something I prefer to do. I love the idea of my money staying in the community, but what's good is good and this place is not. Hotdogs-poor quality and boiled- enough said. Burgers good but real grease. Fries-it's a deep fried potato, nothing special, not even a secret seasoning. The BLT was good (Not $4.50 good-that doesn't include a side). Canned chilli- ugh. It's a cool space(real retro),but you might just want to stick with the milkshakes. read more

Great hamburgers and fries (for when you have a craving for this kinda stuff). I also got the chili/slaw dog and it was perfect. Staff is nice and attentive. I noticed several tables waiting on food when we ordered. (Place was full for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday). Went in today for lunch and waited nearly 40 mins for food. When we asked the waiter how our food was coming along, the kid told us if we wanted to be rude he would kick us out. Really? We asked to speak to the manager and he got even more rude and went to get the guy at the grill who continued harass us. That is the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. I would not recommend this place to anyone. We left and went to Brad's Grill down the street and had our food delivered before we could make it from the counter to our table. read more

i have ate here once before and today i realized why i'd never go back. not only did they screw up our companies order. ya over a dozen orders. but, worst of all the food was cold. i am all for local business. but maybe these people need to get back to the basics. this food was disgusting in every sense of the word. they have been riding the coat tails of it's long history in gainesville and far to long. if there was a negative star rating i would be all over it. this place has went from a dinner to a dive. if you think to stop here move on many great place 20 feet from this dumpster. read more
