Been looking for a gold bbq place and found them. The location is good, just right off broadway by Merrillville High School. I ordered the chicken wing and tip coming, comes with fries, Texas toast and either coleslaw or potato salad. The food was really good, would definitely come back. My only issue is there is just one cook and one person taking the order who also has t hand them out. This cause the wait time to be a little longer then normal. Other than that, I'll definitely will be back but I'll make sure to call ahead first. read more

Collins BBQ is ran by a pair of dedicated people striving to bring salvation to your taste buds in the form of smoked meats and tasty desserts. One of my favorites is the combination which gives you tips, wings, and links. They allow you to substitute items, for example turkey instead of pork for the links or tips or jerk wings instead of the regular fried wings. I do want to say they season the wings and then roll them in cornmeal before frying them. They are delicious and nothing regular about them. If you order the large combination it basically doubles your order of meaty goodness. My next favorite is the brisket because its tender, moist, and full of flavor. The grilled garlic bread is a nice addition to allow you to roll some meat into the bread and make quick work of it as a sandwich. I've tried the burgers and half chicken, which are okay, but if they have the brisket, pass them up for the some of that brisket instead. I also usually ask them to fry my fries hard as they are tasty with the sauce on them. If you want sauce on your fries, just ask, its free. Also they have a hot BBQ sauce, but it's a work in progress as one time I went it was on fire, and another it was just mildly spicy. If you're undecided about a piece of BBQ, they offer a small tidbit for you to try, which is nice. read more

The meatiest ribs in the area. The seasonings on the ribs were on point. I ordered cabbage for my side and they were tasteless. I also had the German Chocolate Cake, it was masterful! The cashier is very pleasant and did all she could make sure I enjoyed my experience there. I carried out, but I still liked the decor. read more

I have been getting barbecue and soul food from Collins Barbecue since I moved into the area in 2011. The family run business, has always served excellent barbecue. The meat is tender, never dry and always flavorful. I usually get a large tip/link combo. I love their hot links and that they serve Texas toast with every order. I don't understand a previous reviewer's complaint of bad customer service. I have always had good service, although when they get busy, there can be a wait but the food is always served hot. Found Collins online stating that they close at 10p, we pulled in at 7:45p an noticed that a heavy set gentlemen wearing a Collins shirt yelling at us stating that we had 5 min before they closed. I googled BBQ spots near me and found Collins BBQ... When I went in, the lady working the front counter did not greet me and it seemed like a chore for her to wait on me... I ordered pulled pork with a side of fries and mac/cheese. When I asked her did she have sweet tea which every BBQ joint I ever ate has, she didn't know and had to look in the frig... When my food came out, I had no ketchup for my fries and when I asked her for some, it seemed like I was bothering her. Now as far as the food, it was very good, but her rudeness will make me never go back again! On the way, out, she says excuse me in front of other customers which caught me off guard. I turned around to be asked where is my tray? My tray was on the table where I ate and I guess picking up and cleaning the table was not part of her job description! She then says, bring it up here. I would never go back to this joint again. The customer service, if that's what you want to call it, is horrible. I complained that there was very little sauce on my rib tips and mostly bones in my order. I really just cant understand how everything can be bland and seemingly canned literally nothing was right. I got the BBQ taste for around $6 and it was really good. The lady behind the counter was a little rude and just stared at me when I walked in instead of greeting me. I'm not sure if it was because I was new face, as there were a couple gentlemen who entered after me whom she greeted warmly.
