It's the first time I've seen beef brisket offered as a choice of either "lean" or "moist." I chose lean and my family chose moist. I think my selection was better because I'm not a fan of fatty brisket. Overall, it was almost too much meat (which is good since their prices were higher than some quick serve bbq). Really, it was enough protein to fill almost anyone. Sides don't come with the meat except for cornbread. But, I ordered sweet potato hash and thought it was great. Not crazy sweet. Just right. The only thing other side that I wish they had was collard greens. But, that's me being a Tennessean and liking the comfort food. As far as sauces: On point. Every one that I tried was very good. This spot in Merriville does not disappoint consistently great food every single time if anything is better than the food is the service they have the best service in a restaurant that I've ever been to. It's casual fast food they deliver your food to you very quickly. They check up on you and the food is just plain delicious Being a prior service military. I also get a free brownie with my meal. You can't beat this place I really like the concept. The food is amazing. The price point is solid and you can take the family here without breaking the bank. My favorite BBQ in Northwest Indiana and always a solid BBQ choice in other locations. They make sweet tea the way intended and is sweet enough to make this Bama Boy shout " Roll Tide!" No matter what region of American BBQ you love or want to sample, Mission has you covered. If you are feeling Carolina style, there is pulled pork with slaw with a NC vinegar sauce and a Georgia mustard sauce. I come across more people in this part of the world that asks me about the mustard BBQ sauce. If you want Texas Style, there is brisket with bold BBQ sauces. If you are feeling St. Louis ribs, they have you covered. If you are feeling chicken and turkey and looking to cut carbs, they have a white Bama BBQ sauce (mayo based minimal sugar) with green beans. Sauces that are on the table are the NC vinegar, Memphis (sweet), Smoky Mountain (sweet), Texas Twang (bold), KC Style (smoky Ketchup base), Tupelo Heat (hot sauce base), and Chicago (very sweet). At the serving station, they usually have St. Louis Red (sticky and tangy), Georgia Mustard, Baja Bold (spicy tomato base), and Bay-B-Q (mixed with Old Bay seasoning). You have to ask for Bama white sauce at the counter. I love the value I get at Mission with the options of 2 or 3 meats and making it a combo. Also, you can buy a refillable cup that supports charity and only costs you a $1 each time you bring it with you. With a name like Mission, there is a ton of military decor and at noon, everyone stops and sings the national anthem. They also have an email club that sends you a free sandwich for signing up and on birthdays. If I'm picking BBQ in Northwest Indiana, I'm heading to Mission because I know the tea will be sweet and I will have whatever style of BBQ I feel like. read more

First time here. Large menu with a lot of choices . Theme is for military and first responders. The food was great, but my lunch companion was not a fan of the Mac& cheese but did mention she will come back to try more items. Self seating but someone will bing the food to table. You handle garbage/tray at the end. Burger comes pink but is wasn't mooing so I tried it. I would eat that again for sure. You can tell the regulars when it hits noon as audio will go off - everyone stood up and faced the flag and started the national anthem. One thing I can say mission does have good barbecue.. people are friendly and nice atmosphere is good and the food won't disappoint you. Having a 'mission' and sticking to it in EVERY aspect of your business is no small feat - but Mission BBQ does just that. They are 100% committed to all things military, firefighters, police, and first responders. It is a chain that started on September 11, 2011 in a Baltimore suburb. It was reminiscent of our beloved City BBQ in food and setting for us, but DEFINITELY wayyyy military focused. We happened upon this location on our way home to Indy from Chicago around lunchtime. As the clock struck 12 noon, everything in the kitchen and dining room stopped, and everyone stood up, placed their hands on their hearts, and sang the national anthem. I overheard the staff say they do this every day at noon. There is reserved front row parking for veterans. The decor is ALL things veteran/military. You can get a reusable cup that supports their charity and active and veteran military folks get a discount. As we got to our table we noted there was one gentleman working in just the dining area. He was chatting folks up, clearing tables, and thanking people for their service. He approached our table and asked if we were veterans and/or first time visitors. He then went to the kitchen and brought us out 2 cherry cheesecake desserts in honor of our first visit and Dan's family military history. He was very sweet and engaging. I got the salmon and it was SO PERFECTLY SMOKED and so tender. Dan got the Brisket (his gauge of BBQ) and was sure to try each of the 6 sauces on the table (See Rhett B.'s previous review for spot on descriptions of each). The cornbread on the side was super moist and really good. The hand cut fries were also tasty. Overall, our 2 lunch combos came to about $30 - which wasn't too bad. Sure, it is a chain - but the fact that they are attempting to do good in their corner of the market is commendable. We would go back if in the area. read more

Which seemed a little pricy, but I think some of their proceeds support veterans services, so ok. It looked like a kind of small portion in the box, but it was actually plenty of food. The cashier asked me did I want (? Or ?) For the brisket, which I didn't know what it was, and she said more or less fat. I chose the leaner and it was nice and lean. Traveling through the area and saw the drive-in car show and stopped at this spot for dinner. TBH I'd never heard of the establishment but now that I have I like the idea behind it. When you enter you'll notice a variety of seating options surrounded by tons of military and first responder memorabilia. When I ordered my meal I also bought a cup the proceeds are going to support the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) memorial, who couldn't love that. For my entree I ordered the pulled pork, baked beans, and potato salad. The Porto was very tasty, the beans had a little kick to them and also tasty, the potato salad was okay, not the best I've had. I was skeptical at 1st because I thought the sides would taste like cafeteria sides.... but Nope, the sides were very flavorful. Also there is no microwaves or Freezers there, so you know everything is fresh.. I give this place a Great 10/10. Excellent across the board! First time here, tried the two meats, Brisket moist and Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage. Both of these were very good, especially paired with the Smoky Mountain BBQ sauce. I ordered 3 sides to give as many as possible a try. The max and cheese was by far the best, the beans and potato salad were both still good. The place looks very cool on the inside, they really seem to care about our veterans! I was mostly surprised on this visit by how nice the staff was, and once they figured out it was my first time here the manager came over to my table to personally thank me for coming in today! We were passing through town and wanted BBQ. We didn't realize Mission is a decent size chain, but they are. We ordered a ten bone St Louis ribs and 1/2 chicken. Both were excellent; well cooked, moist, nice sauces. We were happy! We called in a to-go. I walked in to pick it up and it was ready on time and packaged well. Happy staff, everyone called me HONEY. This is some of the best food I have had in a while. I was in Merrillville and wanted to grab a quick lunch. I spotted this place from the road and BBQ sounded like it would hit the spot. I ordered pulled pork Carolina style with a scoop of fresh cole slaw on top, it was great! They have 6 or 8 different bbq sauces at each table. I like spicy so I went with a spicier sauce. It was really good. They have this malt vinegar stuff that I poured all over my fries, it was amazing. I had never heard of this place but turns out it's a chain and there is a location in Downers Grove which isnt too far from my house. I'll definitely be frequenting that location. read more
