Dr. Cruz always handled my dog's teeth cleaning, but that excellent professional moved to another state! This time, the tartar removal was performed by Dr. Bakari. I was very disappointed; my little dog didn't have bad teeth--there were only minor signs of tartar--yet 15 teeth were extracted. It seemed to me that the doctor found it easier to pull them out than to perform a proper cleaning, and when I went to pick up my dog, he had his assistant speak to me instead of showing up himself! If you want decent care for your dog, do not take them to this hospital! I used to trust them, but since Dr. Cruz left, they seem interested only in taking your money. My little dog had beautiful teeth, and now he has trouble eating. read more

I have been going to this hospital for years for my cat (she's now 14) and I feel they always take good care of her. I've brought her in for several different reasons including check ups, teeth cleaning, fleas, etc. they always give me a quote before doing anything to her which I appreciate, very transparent. Left her there overnight one time and I was worried cuz she had a cyst, but they said she was doing well and they gave her a heating pad which made me feel very comfortable, as she's a very tiny cat. My experience here has been absolutely horrible. I took my grandmother's cat in because she was having GI issues. The intake nurse was extremely nice, so I had high hopes. However, Dr. Nasser Imani seemed impatient while I was trying to explain my cat's symptoms. I felt rushed and interrupted. He ordered several tests, including a stool sample to be collected later in the week. The doctor gave us the vial and directed us to get some stool on the shovel part of the tube. After 2 days, I came back to drop off the stool sample. The female receptionist with glasses, dark hair could not find the receipt from our payment of the stool sample. I was a little confused because I thought the doctor would have included the stool sample in the receipt from last visit, but this wasn't a huge deal to me. Then, the receptionist asked if my cat had worms or blood in her stool. I said no, I don't think so. She then said that if there wasn't anything like that, the stool sample would not be necessary ( this again was confusing because it was what the doctor ordered!). She then asked me to show her the vial. I showed it, and she then said "That's not enough. We need two times as much." (So which is it, it's not needed at all, or I need more sample?) She handed me a new bottle and then literally pointed to the door to leave. An extremely rude interaction overall. Some people here like the vet techs are absolutely lovely, but others completely spoil the experience. I felt like I needed to scream to be heard. Extremely disorganized and obvious communication issues. I definitely will not be returning and will not be suggesting this place to anyone! read more

Perfect! Twizil the silver schnauzer had several very tiny 'bumps' (cysts) on her back targeted for removal and a teeth clean procedure both scheduled on January 29th. Early morning drop off with the staff was smooth & efficient as always. I was so pleased with the service provided by Dr. Bhakhri and everyone at Colma Pet Hospital that took special care of Twizil. She was happy & perky at pick-up time! They even made sure to minimize the leg hair that had to be shaved when they 'hooked her up' for anethesia. It may seem silly, but I really appreciated that! Dr. Navdeep Bhakhri is a very compassionate and knowledgeable veterinarian. He has taken good care of my two dogs. He is patient and thoroughly explain procedures. Both my dogs had torn ACL's and during recovery if I had any questions or concerns, he would always return my calls no later than a day after. My current dog had soft tissue carcinoma twice in different area and two years apart, and he removed them successfully. Now I frequently check for any new bumps so that it doesn't grow and spread. There was even one time where he had called me and asked how my dog was recovering. I would totally recommend Dr. Bhakhri. read more

We had to put our cat of 14 years down today, and we regrettably chose this place to do so. Front desk staff was disorganized, intake nurse was cold, and primary caregiver was INCREDIBLY clinical and not personable or compassionate in the slightest. He grabbed my baby by the scruff when he was sedated and probably so confused in order to move him to a suitable position and I wanted to scream at him right there. He disappeared before I could get the chance to say something and he didn't even say anything else. My cat deserved FAR better treatment with respect and compassion in his final moment, not apathy and disinterest. Our pets have always been family to us, not just pets. Imagine if it was your loved one being treated in such a cold way during their last moments. You would be livid and all of hell would freeze over if that was the case. My Felix deserved so much care and compassion just the same as anyone else does in a vulnerable moment like that, and he was stripped of it. The only two people in that entire office who were kind and compassionate were the two younger technicians, one younger guy and a younger girl. Both of them were so caring and gentle, and understood the importance of that moment for us. The young guy had some especially kind and warm words for us after my baby was put to sleep. If I had it my way, it would have been both of them taking care of my baby over that cold physician. Do yourself a favor and don't make the same mistake we made by coming here. Regardless of how pricy in-home care may be or going to another facility, do it. You only get the chance once. My biggest regret is letting Felix's last moments be in this god awful clinic. He deserved infinitely better than what was given here. read more

Avoid this clinic if you rely on pet insurance. They cost me hundreds of dollars in reimbursements by ignoring multiple requests for medical records from my provider. I have spent three weeks trying to reach them via every possible channel (phone, text, email) with no response. I'm new to the area and was looking for a new veterinarian for my dog. I chose Colma Animal Hospital because of its strong Google reviews. My dog needed surgery to remove a lump and have it biopsied, so we scheduled an initial exam and blood panel. During our first visit, Dr. Bhakhri was polite and accommodating when I accidentally arrived an hour early due to booking the wrong appointment time, which I appreciated. However, he did not show much interest in or acknowledgment of my dog, which felt a bit off-putting. Despite this, I decided to move forward with the procedure, as I didn't want that one concern to outweigh his apparent professionalism. The pricing for the surgery also seemed reasonable. On the day of the surgery, I did not have any direct communication with Dr. Bhakhri. All interactions were handled by staff. When I dropped my dog off, I was told the doctor would call me after the procedure to provide an update and aftercare instructions, either directly or via voicemail. Unfortunately, that never happened. A staff member called about 30 minutes after surgery to let me know my dog was doing well, but I still never heard from the doctor. I informed the clinic that I would be picking my dog up after 4:30 p.m. due to work. When I arrived at that time, I waited nearly 45 minutes before my dog was brought out. Again, there was no communication from the doctor. Overall, my dog's surgery itself seemed to go well, but I was disappointed by the clinic's organization and the lack of communication--especially from the veterinarian. It felt very transactional, as though the focus was solely on completing the procedure rather than on patient care and client communication. If that approach doesn't bother you, this clinic may be fine, but it personally wasn't the right fit for me. read more

Honestly, the vet office is so convenient and they always have availabilities. The vet doesn't seem like the type to automatically go tot he most expensive option/extreme for diagnosed. Instead, he likes to take the more conservative, minimally invasive, cheaper approach first which we appreciate. Their office could use an update aesthetically but I've trusted them with my senior dog's surgery and he healed fantastic. The vet also makes sure to followup. Would recommend! read more

Our dog had blood in the stool. After trying few home and internet remedies, we finally resorted to a vet. The booking was easy and we could get in on the same day. The expense was reasonable and most importantly the medication worked. They did not try to upsell. The facility is clean. Just did the diarrhea treatment as promised. Doctors and staff are only nice to you if you agree if everything they want to do to your pet and get $$$. Once you become an informed pet parent they become very dismissive. I made a appt and specifically asked for Dr B. On the appt date/time, I was assigned to another dr without notice. The reason, "you haven't seen Dr B in ~2-yrs." Because we were already there, I agreed to see Dr Imani. I asked to check for one of my dog's ear for a possible ear infection, I was told my dog needs to be sedated to check for infection, that's unheard of. I was also harassed for my dogs current records when they have it in their system. My dogs only had an annual checkup, no Parvo/Distemper vaccine because they refused to look at their system for my dogs current record. Again, if you're an informed pet parent, Colma Animal Hospital isn't for you. However, if you choose to give them control of your finances, then you'll get red carpet service. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Bakhari since 2011. He is a kind and empathetic vet. No matter how busy it is there you never feel rushed. He takes the time to explain what is wrong and includes you in the treatment plan. He does not order unnecessary tests or labs. Our Chi is now 15 yo and is starting to decline. My experience every time is awful to say the least, the only 2 women at the front desk are not only rude to customers but to each other and do not communicate at all with one another. On top of that the doctor himself is always extremely dismissive of your own observations of your pet and is quick to diagnose without take a proper look. I have specifically told him not to give/prescribe certain medications which i was still charged for and had to call to complain in order to return them and get a refund (that experience alone solidifies the fact the woman up front don't communicate or work well with each other) i have witnessed them yelling at each other on multiple occasions.. if you care about your pet at all please do not take them here, all they care about is money read more

My dog, Bruno, has been under the care of Dr. Bhakhri since 2012. In May 2017, Bruno experienced severe pain in his left hind leg, resulting in limping and discomfort. Dr. Bhakhri recommended and performed the TPLO surgery. This surgery was amazing! It significantly improved Bruno's mobility and eliminated his pain. In July 2020, Bruno underwent the same surgery on his right hind leg with equally successful results, we could not have been more pleased! During Bruno's annual checkup in May 2024, Dr. Bhakhri detected a high white blood cell count and through an x-ray discovered a large mass in Bruno's left lung. To add, I brought my dog there years ago. The doctor did not believe my dog was his actual breed (after did a dna test and he was full breed). I think the doctors changed after and both new doctors were evidently afraid of my dog. my dog wasn't aggressive, he was just a little nervous and is also small. dogs are common pets and for my dog to be pretty friendly i thought it was odd actual vets would be afraid. read more

I'm writing this review out of deep frustration and sadness following our recent experience at Colma Animal Hospital, specifically with Dr. Imani Nasser. On May 16th, we brought our French Bulldog in for an exam, strongly suspecting she was pregnant. She had a visibly swollen belly and enlarged nipples -- clear signs to us. However, Dr. Nasser firmly insisted she was not pregnant. Despite our concerns and our close daily observation of our dog's condition, Dr. Nasser dismissed them outright, suggesting she must have gotten pregnant afterward. Last Thursday, we brought our dog back due to her continued and obvious pregnancy symptoms. This time, Dr. Nasser finally confirmed she was pregnant via an X-ray, though claimed she "wasn't far along." Even then, we were told we should have her give birth at home -- advice that is completely inappropriate for a French Bulldog, a breed known to require C-sections due to their anatomy. When we said home birth wasn't an option, we were told to try the ASPCA because Colma Animal Hospital would not perform a C-section. This refusal put our dog and her puppies at serious risk. To make matters worse, Dr. Nasser completely ignored all of our follow-up calls throughout the week. Not once did she return a call or try to speak with us. When we brought our dog back on Thursday, we overheard the receptionists saying, "She looks so big and pregnant -- what happened? How did the doctor not catch it?" That moment said everything. We sought a second opinion immediately. The new veterinary hospital was shocked -- both at the recommendation for a home birth and at the delay in providing proper care. They performed a prenatal exam that confirmed she was very advanced in her pregnancy, and gave us at most 2 days before she goes into labor. They performed an emergency C-section today. Tragically, 3 of the 7 puppies were stillborn. According to the vet, it's likely because the puppies had been in the womb too long -- something that might have been avoided had Dr. Nasser acted sooner and taken our concerns seriously from the start. It was only after our new vet hospital asked for our dog's medical record that we received a call from Dr. Nasser. I declined the call, not wanting to speak to the man who put a beloved member of our family in jeopardy. My family is grateful that 4 puppies survived, but we are devastated by the loss of the other 3. We truly believe that if our concerns had been listened to, all of the puppies might be alive today. We are not just disappointed -- we are heartbroken and angry. Dr. Nasser showed a shocking lack of urgency, misjudgment, and a complete refusal to accept responsibility. We trusted him with our dog's care, and that trust was broken. We hope Colma Animal Hospital reflects seriously on this failure. Pet parents deserve to be heard, and their animals deserve competent, compassionate, and responsive care. If you believe your beloved pet is pregnant, I strongly advise seeking treatment elsewhere, for the sake of your pet and their babies. read more

They said they'd call in 1-2 days to update results but here we are with no call. I've called 2 times and left messages but no one has called us back. I've only worked with Dr. Bhakhri, not Dr. Cruz. I've been coming to this vet for the past year and a half. The doctor is good. He cares about the well being of your pet. I appreciate he doesn't seem to want to nickel and dime you. My dog sprained her hind leg one time and he advised us to wait and monitor. I wasnt pushed for x rays or other exams. Their office staff has changed quite a bit, I don't recognize anyone from a year ago, at least the times I've come. Their staff was terrible about the phone a year ago but has improved a lot. In fact, one time the doctor picked up to schedule our appointment! Btw they have an unadjustable exam table in the middle of the room and my dog is tall enough, she wants to jump off of it! Why this isn't 5 stars? I ask a lot of questions during the exam and even though I don't think he means it, he sounds a little annoyed because his voice perks a little more. It is like I'm speaking to my older uncle, slightly judgmental because I'm taking a little too long lol. I generally don't mind it but I can see someone else being really turned off by this. I come here often since they are close to me and they have their own parking lot. I rely on Colma Pet when I need to be seen within a week. read more

I made a same day appointment for my older pup. They could fit me in and I sent all the previous paperwork by email. I sent my mother in my place to go to the vet with my pup and it went easy! They sent him home with meds and I just called back to get a "rundown" of what happened and what the meds were for. Staff was super friendly, and they even spoke Spanish and that was helpful since my mom needed help understanding some information. Glad that they are our new vet! read more
