I also got the nearly $600 fee emailed to me 6 weeks before the appointment was set up. The staff seems kind, they are very responsive and quick, and they have great service reviews, but requiring payment for the appointment just to *schedule* the appointment is really weird and unusual business practice. It's annoying and honestly kind of sketch. Still waiting to hear if they at least will move to a deposit structure or payment plan instead. I think in this economy businesses should be going extra mile for customer financial access, especially it's normal for bills to be more than $250 any given day. read more

Co-worker: "You were out yesterday, are you ok?" Me: "Yes, I'm fine...I had to bring my dog for an acupuncture consultation." Co-worker: ( o_O ) Me: "What?" Co-worker: "Are you serious?" Me: "Uhh yea?" Co-worker: "Oh hunny, we must find you a man." Me: "Ok, but make sure he's a veterinarian!" Dogs can't talk so they can't tell us how they feel or when they're in pain. Several months ago, after launching off the bed, Tater Tot started limping and hiking up his leg. We went to see our regular vet and he said that Tater Tot had luxating patella and that if it didn't get any better, he would need surgery. (As a side note, Tater Tot has always had luxating patella but that one jump off the bed exasperated it and increased the severity of it.) NOPE. Surgery is out of the question because of the risks and it may not be 100% effective so I started researching alternative medicine. I read that acupuncture may be helpful so I started seeking out holistic veterinarians. Dr. IIana at A Well Adjusted Pet (inside The Rex Center) is one of two holistic veterinarians that I found on Yelp in SF Peninsula. I ultimately went with Dr. IIana because I had several friends whose dogs went to see Dr. IIana, and they spoke highly of her. Her only availability was 5 weeks out and it was a morning appointment on a weekday so holistic veterinary care for is a lot more popular than many people may think. Tater Tot's first appointment was a 90 minute consultation along with the treatment. Generally, medical professionals want to hit it and quit it. You wait and wait, only for them to spend 2 minutes with you and push you out the door. Not Dr. IIana. She is kind, compassionate AND incredibly thorough. She spent the time explaining Tater Tot's injury and how it's affecting him. She even went on all fours to explain how dog muscles and joints work. During the consult, Tater Tot was really nervous...probably thinking someone was going to stick something up his bunghole (again). Dr. IIana put Tater Tot at ease with lots of love and treats. After examining him, she suggested Shockwave Therapy (instead of acupuncture), Underwater Treadmill, and Adequan injections. Shockwave Therapy helps accelerated tissue repair and cell growth, and restore mobility. The Underwater Treadmill would help build strength and mobility. And, Adequan decreases inflammation and stimulates production of joint fluid and collagen. Dr. IIana also incorporated doggy pilates on the FITbone and physio balls for strength training. After 5 sessions, Tater Tot hasn't skipped, limped, or hiked his leg up! WHOO HOOO! He's doing great and is now in the maintenance phase. Instead of weekly treatments, we see Dr. IIana once a month and interchanges between Shockwave Therapy and Underwater Treadmill, and he does his FITBone exercises at home with the help of string cheese. It's not cheap (the 5 weekly treatments was close to $1,500) but totally worth it. Your furbaby's health is more important than a new LV bag right?! I think many people forget that animal care can be just as expensive as hooman care. Luckily, I have Healthy Paws Pet Insurance that covers holistic care so they reimbursed a good chunk of it. Dogs are family so you can't put a price on their well-being and quality of life. Dr. llana Strubel is amazing!!!! Everyone that works there is so thoughtful, gentle, friendly, knowledgable and kind. Our dog got hit by a car in Sept of 2020. We went to another therapy clinic in Marin and they told us we would have to amputate it. Her nerve was torn. We ran into someone at the park with an orthotic leg and they recommended A Well Adjusted Pet. Fast forward Dr. Ilana tried everything to see what part of our dog's leg was salvageable. The 1 st time - my very active labradoodle dislocated his ankle and was put in a cast for 6 weeks - by an Orthopedist - when we arrived at A Well Adjusted Pets - Charlie was happy to be there - he is a crazy labradoodle with way too much energy for an older dog - but the care and expertise that Dr.Ilana gives is unequalled anywhere else. With e-stim to bring back the muscle tone that he had lost and walking in the water treadmill he re - habbed super fast. Dr. Ilana has healing hands. We loooooove this place! Both of the veterinarians are amazing. All of the physical therapists, receptionist, and staff are the best I've seen. I started bringing my dog here to address his luxating patella. We came up with a plan to start shockwave therapy and water treadmill therapy and supplements. We've had two appointments out of the five of the package we purchased. He's much more comfortable with all the staff and treatments now. The first two shockwave treatments are done with the doctors to assess and develop a treatment plan, and the following treatments are done with a certified therapist. Everyone has been so kind to my dog that he loves coming here. And not just for the human grade cheese he's given to do the exercises!! We were also given a comprehensive List of physical therapy movements and stretches to do at home. It's too soon to tell if the treatment is working well, but we have high hopes with this clinic! It takes us about 3 hours of traffic to get to and from this clinic, but it's such a gem. They provide towels and blowdryers and snacks for the water treadmill work. We opted to not try the injection as my dog is scared of shots, who isn't really?! The doctor was so kind to provide us with a another supplement option, which we have started. They check in to see how he's doing at the start of every appointment and tailor the session to his needs. We opted to not go through insurance, but they can help out with paperwork if you do so. My dog's knee went out and I was considering getting a custom knee brace for her hind leg but it ended up being a full tear so I think I'm going to the surgery route. I believe the brace is better for shorter hair dogs and can be worn durning their waking hours. For those who are considering a brace that may heal a partial acl tear or your dog is a lot older and want to avoid surgery and are wondering the cost involved it's $1850-2100 which includes the brace and PT or $375 for the evaluation if they can't help your pet. They are truly lifesavers and helped my dog Oreo walk again after my dog suffered a stroke. His left side was completely paralyzed this June 2022 and now he's been improving a lot. We were extremely fortunate that a good friend recommended Dr Ilana to us for our 7 year old German Shepherd Rex. Rex was starting to become stiff in his movement and we had heard incredible things about her mobility work from her treatment of our friend's older large breed dog. In a single session, Rex not only received manual therapy and ultra-sound, which greatly improved his mobility. Last year I brought my dog to Dr Strubel for some rehab after surgery on his elbow. I saw that she is thoughtful, thorough, and skilled. She examines your pet with the care you would want. That dog is perfect today. When my other dog developed a limp, I mentioned it to my regular vet, showed them videos of him not using a leg, and the advised me that 1) it's nothing and 2) if he limps, put him in a cage to 2 weeks. Seriously. So I thought expletives and made an appointment with Dr Strubel. It takes a few months and it's not cheap. But IMHO worth every penny. She examined dog2 expertly and diagnosed a ruptured tendon, he got some treatments, and after that he was so happy and perky that I realized how much discomfort he must have been in before. So we're going to keep coming back for 5 more visits, my lovely dog will hopefully recover some muscle strength, and I am looking for a new vet. read more

Even though I do not have any insurance plan that helps cover my visits, there is so much value in the service they provide. And it really helps the pocket that they accept Care Credit. My senior dog was beginning to lose function in his hind legs, and all that was prescribed by my primary vet was arthritis medication. But after our initial consultation with Dr. Laurie, she evaluated and treated Spanky with stretches, laser treatment, an Adequan shot and the Assisi loop. She also emailed me with a summary of our visit, complete exercise plan and suggestions for treatment and supplements. The next day, I saw an immediate improvement with Spanky walking and without needing assistance from me. A few weeks later, I decided to get Spanky treated using Shockwave with Dr. Ilana to see how that would improve his mobility. She also handled Spanky with great care, takes her time, and tries to keep him very calm. The next day, I was worried that he was very tired and did not feel like walking or exercising. Dr. Ilana is very, very in tune with her fur patients and their humans. She truly loves her job and it shows. I had my first visit to her new office in Pacifica. It's like a big hug going to visit. It's all about the dogs and their care. It's not fancy and there's plenty of dog hair and toys all around. She kept all three of my dogs entertained during their exams. Normally my dogs shiver and shake when entering the vet's office, not here. It's more like a happy dog daycare vibe. Dr. Strubel was the guiding light in the care of our older Chiweenie (Dachshund/Chihuahua mix), Dinky. She helped us with Dinky's mobility and digestion issues. Dr. Strubel was with us right up until the end, and helped us when we needed to let Dinky go. Dinky was 3 days shy of her 19th birthday, which is a testament to Dr. Ilana's knowledge and meticulous care. Dr. Ilana has a real gift with animals, and humans. She explained medical, and nutritional issues to us in terms my husband and I could understand. Also, when we forgot what she told us (as I am prone to do) Dr. Ilana explained everything again without hesitation. Simply put - she is an extraordinary vet, from her expertise down to her toes. As they say in the South, I could sing her praises until the cows come home. She is truly the most compassionate person I have ever known. She knows animals and their human sidekicks in a way that makes you believe she has known everyone in your family her whole life. When Dinky died, I was so heartbroken, I decided I could not adopt any more animals. They simply don't live long enough, and the fact we outlast them seemed (at the time) to be a set up for heartbreak. We had a wonderful consultation with Dr. Ilana for our 13 year old Basenji who has arthritis in her back legs and was recovering from a partially torn ligament. On Dec. 4 our 4 1/2 yr old golden retriever Calli had an accident & ended up with a spinal chord injury. She was diagnosed with either a shattered disc or a Fibro Cartilaginous embolism. She was paralyzed in both her rear legs. After 24 hrs. She started to get some movement in her left rear leg, but the right leg was completely immobile. She spent 4 days in the local hospital & we were advised to take her to Sage Hospital where they had a neurologist. The doctors at Sage said we needed to keep her on bed rest for 5 weeks & then start physical therapy. They couldn't guarantee she would ever get movement in her right rear leg. There was even some talk about possible amputation of the leg if movement didn't return. Dr. Strubel from A WELL ADJUSTED PET was recommended by both our local vet. & our dog groomer. When she heard our story, she had us come in right away. After she did a 45 minute evaluation, she told us she would be able to help Calli walk again! She immediately started therapy, which consisted of laser therapy, underwater treadmill, stretches. & the Assisi Loop. She gave us a sling to keep Calli's right foot in the proper position & suggested the correct harness to get for her so we could carry her up & down the stairs. 10 weeks after her injury she is able to walk with a slight limp & is going up & down the stairs on her own. I could not be more appreciative of Dr. Ilana's kind guidance and expertise. I came to her as a mess after my 9-year-old Boxer had fallen down our stairs, because I'd just come from a veterinary neurologist who immediately recommended a $3k MRI and a $7k back surgery, which was both financially impossible and medically undesirable for a Boxer at that age and who has a heart condition. Anyway, Dr. Ilana gave a thorough evaluation, including a full battery of range-of-motion tests, and determined that she had a sprained ACL in her knee as well as the initial back injury. Using a combination of home exercises and hydrotherapy sessions, I have had resounding success maintaining my dog's leg strength and keeping her pain-free. Dr. Ilana has comprehensive knowledge as well as a kind bedside manner and a respect for her clients' financial limits. She was never pushy; instead always supportive, constructive, and positive. I highly recommend Dr Ilana!!! We had to wait 6weeks due to her availability but she was so worth the wait! My dog had injured his right hind leg back at Christmas and went to rehab and chiropractic care but didn't seem to get better. He was barely walking which didn't make sense. One provider was concerned it was a neurological problem. Thankfully after an evaluation by. Dr Ilana, she diagnosed his condition as an autoimmune poly arthritis. We started meds and in two weeks he was almost 25%better! I'm an overprotective dog mom, but too many very expensive vet bills and idiopathic conditions have taught me to wait a little while before seeking medical attention, because most of the time, the vet just says to wait it out and let the issues resolve on their own. Recently, Beatrix developed a persistent, debilitating limp that was not going away despite nightly doggy massages. I don't know which aspect of Dr. Pearlsteins multi-faceted approach did it (more likely it was the combination therapy), but within two weeks of our 2-hour session with her, Beatrix's limp was gone. She is my neighbor too and was right there when it was time to put Jessie down, plus she did it in my living room. A lot of vets are not very good with people, but Dr. S was warm and loving with us and quick and efficient with Jessie. I wish I had discovered her earlier in my Jessie's care, but she did provide some awesome VSMT (chiropractic doggie care) and massage therapy before she passed. The day of the treatment she was more mobile and seemed like she was experiencing less pain. We saw Ilana for a thorough exam & were shown some great stretches and physical therapy exercises to help increase her strength and stamina. Also started her on Adequate which I could swear started working after a couple days! I'm looking forward to trying the underwater treadmill next. Our dog came to us as a rescue--his 7th home in his 4 years of life. He was abused during that time. He had arthritis in his front paws, little muscle structure in his rear such that he had a difficult time climbing the 20-40 degree 'hills' in our area. He would fall when trying to do so many times.
