My pup was not feeling well and I was able to get an appointment in a timely manner. The front desk staff is very attentive and professional. MOO was seeing by Dr Pujianto who communicated with us every step of the way in his treatment.In a matter of hours after his visit my pup was feeling better. Wow, I highly advise you to steer clear of this establishment at all costs. It's a complete and utter disaster. I should have known better, but I foolishly took a chance. My cat had mysteriously fallen ill, and I urgently needed a place to take her since her regular vet office was closed. I made an online appointment and answered some basic questions about my cat's age, breed, color, and weight. They called me the same day to schedule to perform phone assessment which is a requirement for Every appointment. During the phone Assessment they ask the exact same questions that I had already answered online. It was a bit peculiar, but I brushed it off as a minor oversight. When I arrived at the pet hospital, I stood by the counter for an excruciating five minutes, waiting to be seen. The person who was supposed to be there seemed utterly indifferent to my urgency. During check-in, I was subjected to the same ten generic questions that I had already answered online and over the phone. I hate repeating myself. It was infuriating because there was no "save details" option on the system. To make matters even worse the front desk person also performed the triage. When I arrived, there was no veterinarian or triage nurse to assess my cat's respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems, identifying any potential life-threatening conditions that required immediate attention. The front desk person then proceeded to make suggestions about what my cat needed, but she failed to provide any explanation or rationale for her recommendations. An opportunity to upsell. I inquired for more Information but I never received any clarity or resolution. The entire interaction left much to be desired. To add insult to injury, the person attempted to weigh my nine-pound cat while she was still in her carrier. What on earth? Yes, my emaciated cat weighed twenty pounds (including the carrier), which made absolutely no sense. What kind of facility collects inaccurate measurements? Finally, I was checked in and informed that they would call me when my cat was ready for pickup. While I'm away They suggested and billed me for an office visit, physical exam, Dextrose IV, fluid therapy package, Superchem CBC, and thyroid screening test. They applied a tactic of adding more tests without any basis or detailed explanation while I was away from the facility, effectively upselling me. The total cost came out to approximately $695. I was provided with some sheets of paper summarizing the services "rendered" but the vet didn't go through the contents of the page. Many sections of the basic exam results were left blank. To my astonishment, they were unable to provide any specific diagnosis or explanation for her condition. 3 hours and $695 later and they didn't know what's wrong. I asked All these tests and no diagnosis? Then I'm told it's possibly a "general infection." They offered no treatment options, other than another series of blind tests with estimated costs ranging from $10,000 to $12,000. Everything felt so contrived and impersonal. No educated guesses or diagnoses were made during the entire visit. I found myself in a similar predicament to where I had started. There are far better pet hospitals in the area, which is why this place has a mere 3-star rating. I strongly advise against visiting this establishment. I'm shocked places like this exist in California, let alone the Bay Area. I'm almost left speechless... almost. I feel bamboozled. Never again. read more

Rest in kitty Heaven my Claire bear Generally speaking, Banfield Pet Hospital has become my family's go to Pet Hospital for all our fur babies. Switching out of SPCA care/services and moving on to Banfield has been worth it. Services we have sought here at Banfield is health check up's, quality of Life exam, Spaying/Neutering, Microchip insertion, and unfortunately, euthanasia services. Each has been handled with the most care and consideration. Shoutout to Dr. Tam for always being a real one with our fur babies and treating them as if they were her own. **Banfield Pet Hospital is not an ER Facility. Many people, as well as my family and I at one point, get this confused. Pet Hospitals are not quite the same or generalized with Pet ER's The primary cause of me constructing this review is for my Claire bear. We noticed 3 weeks ago she was very sluggish and lethargic. We called Banfield and the Doctor told us to bring her in for a necessary "quality of Life exam", as they call it. After taking to her appointment, the Doctor cut to the chase and gave the honest truth that Claire's quality of life was very poor and low. There was reassurance that even paying almost 8k total for tests and surgeries would still lead her to passing away eventually. My family and I agreed and felt it was time to lay Claire to rest and join our Leroy and Kitty in kitty Heaven. I can not explain nor wish the feeling upon anyone, the anticipation of having to wait for the appointment of your fur baby getting euthanized. I will say, that as much of an emotional wreck my Mother and I were in the office and process of Claire getting euthanized, Doctor Tam did a fantastic job of not only making sure we were okay...but most importantly Claire passing away comfortably. The euthanasia process came in 3 shots. 3 shots that my Mother and I have not seen before as we had to euthanize my eldest cat years ago through SPCA in Fillmore. However, there was something about this process as bittersweet to say, was preferred. 1) First shot as Dr. Tam explained it, was to make Claire feel young and energized again. The moment Dr. Tam gave that shot, Claire's eyes literally glossed up and glistened. She was so curious and in the zone on what she was observing around the room. It was a very nice way to remember Claire and take last few photos of her that way. We wait 20 minutes for it to sink in and also enjoy Claire as the following shots sadly sped up the process. 2) The "Michael Jackson" shot as Dr. Tam explained it. I forgot what makes this a "Michael Jackson" shot but this causes Claire to forget and not quite be familiar with who is around. I probably most likely butchered this explanation for sure... 3) The hardest and final part of the process. This was the final shot that caused Claire's heart to stop instantly. It all happens so fast for the most part depending on the severity of your pets health or built. For Claire, it was instant as she was already so fragile and had such shallow breaths. I really do highly recommend you take as much time as you can to say your goodbyes at the first shot, and of course prior to the shots being given. Dr. Tam could not have been the best person to be there for us and handle Claire's service. What stood out to my family and I was the heartfelt and genuine advice Dr Tam gave us. "Think more about the bad days that outweighed Claire's good days", meaning laying Claire to rest is for the better as she primarily had days where she struggled over days where she seemed fine. I appreciate that we were not rushed whatsoever. What made me feel so much better was the fact that they had 2 warm clean blankets for Claire throughout the process. Claire is inLOVE with being under blankets. Seeing and knowing that she was laid to rest while being in a blanket was the little simple things that made this somewhat easier for my family and I. We of course ordered the box of ashes that Banfield offers. It is a beautiful brown wooden box with a shiny gold plate in the middle that is to be engraved with specific information of choice. Also, shout out to front desk for being such a kind individual as well. I wish I knew how to spell his name properly however, in terms of pronunciation I believe the individual goes by "Mikel" (pronunciation, not spelling***) Parking is not a problem. Banfield is located in a plaza so there is parking literally everywhere. This is great if you need to bring your pet in ASAP or in a rush, or in general. Thank you Banfield staff and Doctors. I've been taking my small to medium dog to Banfield since he was a puppy in 2020, and for years, he actually enjoyed going to the vet. His first two vets, Monica and Tiffany, were wonderful with him. They took the time to talk me through how to desensitize him to being touched, and my partner and I worked hard on it. Within six months, his vet was impressed with how much he had improved. Unfortunately, in 2023, both Monica and Tiffany left Banfield, and a new vet took over (several new vets). On Bowser's first visit with this vet, they immediately suggested that he must be heavily sedated before every appointment going forward. When I asked why, they simply said it was because he had anxiety, making it difficult for them to examine him. I specifically asked if he had bitten anyone, and they said no. This was concerning to me because we had been going to the same Banfield for years without any issues, I even have written notes from his previous vet about his good behavior. However, I wanted to be cooperative for the safety of the vets and let them do their job. So I comply. Since 2023, every appointment--whether routine or minor--has required sedation. This means I have to pay for additional medication, plan ahead to ensure he takes it the night before and the morning of, and deal with the effects of sedation on my dog. Most recently, Bowser cracked a nail in a way that concerned me, so I scheduled an appointment to have it checked. I wanted to make sure it could be safely clipped to prevent further damage before we traveled in a few days. Banfield opens at 8 AM, and I called at 8:15 AM, only to get an automated message saying they were "closed." So I went online and booked a same-day appointment instead. I rearranged my entire schedule to fit this appointment and received a text confirmation. When I arrived, they told me I didn't have an appointment. I showed them the confirmation, and they said they could fit me in in 30 minutes. While I was there, I held up my dog (27 lbs, medium-sized) and showed them his cracked nail--he was completely calm and did not react. When I returned for the appointment, the vet tech asked if I had sedated my dog. I explained that I hadn't because I had just booked the appointment that morning. The vet tech went to check with the vet, then came back to tell me they would not see my dog because he was not sedated. I asked if they could at least take a quick look at his nail while I held him, just to tell me whether it was safe to clip it myself. That was all I wanted. They still refused. I asked again if my dog had ever bitten anyone, and once again, the answer was no--just that he had anxiety. Because of Banfield's policy, I can't even take him to another Banfield location, as his records state he must be sedated for every visit. This experience left me incredibly frustrated, especially as a paying Wellness Plan member. I trusted Banfield because of the care we initially received, but that trust is now gone. After this incident, I called another pet hospital. They were able to see my dog the same day. I explained what happened at Banfield, and they were extremely accommodating. They brought us into a room, let me hold my dog while they examined his toe, and reassured me. Yes, Bowser was nervous, and he barked when startled by the exam table, but once he realized he wasn't in danger, he let me hold him while they safely trimmed his cracked nail. That's all I needed from Banfield, and it should not have been that difficult. I no longer trust Banfield, and when I tried to cancel my Wellness Plan, I was told I would have to pay $700 to cancel early. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

I brought my dog to Banfield Colma as a new patient to have a vet closer to home after using VCA Holly for years. After checking in at Colma, I was told my dog needed to stay for 1-2 hours for a physical exam and vaccinations. When I returned to pick up my dog after getting a phone call that she was ready, the vet tech helping me seemed less than enthused and just took my payment. When I asked about the status of the visit she mentioned she would print the notes. I was not verbally given an update and never even saw or talked to the vet. My dog was brought out and I was given the notes and that's it. I will not be returning to this location. The customer service was less than stellar. read more

I'm only giving this one star because the person at the front was super sweet and he helped me understand the issue from the first banfield. First i was lied to at the marina location about what is covered on the plan so i would upgrade the plan, just for nothing i needed to actually be covered. They told me my cat had anxiety and prescribed him a pill that had him high to the point of not being able to walk for almost two full days and told me to give it to him twice a day. I gave him half a pill once and he was high again for a full day. So how would he handle what they prescribed him? Crazy. This is what his urine looks like and they refuse to care for him properly and listen to me. I'm grateful for Banfield Colma arranging appointment for my pets seeing the vet in time when they have urgent symptoms. Medical bills are generally expensive which is universally true but I believe Banfield charges are very reasonable. If I went to ER, it would have cost me double or triple. I've also gone to private vet practice but the billing and system are less structured or a bit more costly than Banfield. This place should be running at all. I made appointment for my cat's medical shave, which is getting her to sleep and cut her hair and her mat out. I clarified that she needed it because she was traumatized by groomer and refused to work with anyone even with calming med. First day, they took 3 hours examining, which was not what we discussed, didnot cut one hair, tell me to come back the next day, cost us extra time, money, and effort. My cats has to go through this again for whatever reason they didn't do it today. I took her back the next day, by the time i picked her up the vet told me it went well, I came home found my cat looking like this. She was hurt, all over. She could barely sit. I was tortured just to see her roaming around hurt like that. I called them, they said it is normal, which by the way she is 10 yrs old this is not her first groom and they were cutting her hair while she was asleep. They offered to give her some oilment which they charged us for $63, for the injury they made and I will have to try to put it on her wound which will traumatize her ever more. I, of course tried to call and get out of our plans, which I have been using for at least 4 years at other location, we are not trying to take advantage on the program since you can see our records of being good customers. They were going to charge me for getting out of contract because they hurt my cat. Honestly, you just make banfield name look really bad. Lastly, a vet that would call this as normal for hair shaving, shouldn't be certified as a vet at all. Do you even have any sympathy for animals? Or just want to save your own ass. read more

Had an extremely positive first experience with the Banfield Pet Hospital in Colma and cannot praise them enough for the excellent care they extended to my dog. My dog is a Banfield patient, however, she ended up getting sick on Christmas Eve when all Banfields were closed on 12/24 and 12/25. After consulting some other local emergency pet hospitals to assess whether we needed to bring her in, my husband and I were told that her illness was not life threatening and could wait until the 26th. Despite the advice, it is always hard to see your fur baby not feeling well, so we wanted to make sure we got her the first appointment after Christmas. Unfortunately, we were unable to bring her to our normal Banfield and almost all Banfields in the Bay Area near where we lived had virtually no availability for weeks. We widened our search in terms of location, which opened up more availability options. We took a chance and went with the Colma Banfield, and honestly, we could not have asked for a better care team. The Banfield Pet Hospital in Colma is located within the Serra Center, nearly adjacent to Target. Since it is in a strip mall, there's plenty of parking. Unlike other Banfields, this location is a stand-alone and is not inside a Pet Smart. We were there for the first appointment of the day and upon arrival, needed to call a number to inform them we were outside (guessing that's COVID protocol). They asked us several questions on the phone in preparation of the appointment and were very clear and detailed with what to expect for our dog during her appointment since we could not go in with her due to COVID. From the second the RVT met our dog to her taking our dog into the hospital and eventually returning her at the end of her appointment, there was evidence of care and concern for our dog. We were relieved and confident she was in good hands. The doctor also called us giving a very detailed report of the visit and instructions of next steps. He was patient with our questions and gave us clear steps moving forward for care at home. Our dog is back to herself and better. Today was the last day of her treatment and we were surprised that the Colma location called (without prompting) to check on our dog indicating they remembered today was her last dose of medicine. We have never received this kind of service from a Banfield. The service and care at this location is above and beyond. My dog had a curbside appointment at 5:30pm on 1/22/24. Although we did not make it exactly at 5:30pm, we did walk into the clinic by 5:35pm. The front desk receptionist at the time, who did not want to give out a name and wears glasses (and I know she's the front desk supervisor), was busy with another customer. As courtesy, I sit down and wait for them to finish. At 5:40pm, she asks for my pet's name for the appointment and tells me that we can no longer be seen because they only give a 10 minute grace period from the time of the appointment. Please explain to me why we cannot be seen if we are being checked in at the 10 minute mark? Regardless, we were there even before that time. And she claims that she "didn't see us". I understand that I was not on time, but I certainly did not pass the 10 minute grace period either. They said it would've been different if we checked in at 5:35pm, but I again stated that we were that at that time, but the receptionist was busy with another customer when we walked in. I kindly asked if we can be accommodated because my dog has already been on multiple sedatives in preparation for the appointment, but the receptionist asks me, "We did give you reminder calls for your appointment at 5:30pm. and if we take you in past 5:30pm, what do you expect us to tell the next customer?" Is this how you treat your customers?? I spoke to the doctor and she says that it's a 5 minute grace period, not 10 minutes, for curbside appointments because they're just supposed to be 15 minutes. I am not being a "Karen" whatsoever. I'm an upset customer who was treated unfairly and with such attitude. I brought my fur baby here for a wellness check and some skin allergy issues. I am so happy I did because they were all so helpful - from my phone call, to checking in, Dr Royalty calling to consult over the phone and to checking out! They are all very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. You can tell they all enjoy what they do here, that means a lot to me! Before I came in for my due baby's first visit, I purchased the OWP for her. Thank god I did, because I saved about $700!!! She needed a shot for her allergies, flea tick n heart worm medication, medications for her ear infection and shampoo for her skin and coat. I'm so glad I did my researched into their OWP. When the Doctor called me to go over her diagnosis and recommendations, she was also kind enough to go over pricing which is extremely helpful! I took my kitten who is fully vaccinated but needed one shot updated. Before going into this location, we advised prior to the visit my kitten only needed one shot. Over the phone we were quoted $210 for the shot and for the appointment. As we got to my kittens appointment we were quoted differently and the person behind the desk began to give more prices. The worker also began to tell us we needed other things for my kitten but my kitten just gotten check with all updated vaccines a couple weeks prior. The worker also advised they may not be able to give the vaccine after the check up. I felt as if she was trying to up sell and trying to give us things my kitten didn't need. She was also super rude, not welcoming or making me feel comfortable to leave my kitten at this location. I was asked to email my kittens records to the location in which I did but she was unable to find the email. She began to spell out the email after she wrote it down as if I made a mistake but I sent it to the email written down. She asked to she my phone and the email in which I showed her and was correct. I felt as she tried to make me feel as if I was dumb and didn't send the email correctly. As we were talking to her at the front desk another pet owner came in to pick up her dog and the dog had gotten a vaccine. As the dog came out, the dog was wailing and crying. The dog had super red eyes and swollen. I felt so bad for the dog. After seeing this I decided I did not want my kitten to be seen at this place and cancelled the appointment. read more

Just a few, but major, things to say about this clinic. 1.) TERRIBLE customer service with a lot of discrepancy with the information. If you want you and your pet to get the best information with clear guidance, don't go here. 2.) There is a lack of communication with staff and customers. For instance, vets who are meant to have an appointment at a certain time sometimes are not there and aren't communicated with you until you arrive, making you wait even longer or for nothing. 3.) Staff do not even try to service their paying customers with pets who entrusted them with their attention. They have never greeted us when walked in even if we're the only ones. Prior appointments will take longer (which is fine) and make you wait longer, but will even lead to the front desk staff (who shows a lot of attitude to other customers and staff btw) saying they didn't see you wait in the waiting room before your appointment time and will hit you with the "you were late, so we cannot service you and your dog" line. 4.) Also, if you put your pets into medication needed to see the vet and recommended by the vet, there's a chance they will not even see you, so your pets will go through all that for nothing. 5.) And as many people say from word of mouth, this place prioritizes profit over pets. Do yourself a favor and don't go here. It's great that some customers had great experiences, but the inconsistency and variety in reviews will make you question as to why - this is why. Things were a lot better a year ago, but now I question our membership with Banfield Pet Hospital. I really hope more people will start doing more reviews. I heard way more negative experiences from word of mouth, especially due to the lack of empathy from staff. Just ask around before you trust the 5 star reviews here. I took my kitten here in August with concerns about what looked ringworms. The vet said sure probably scratched her left eyelid and sent us on our way. Two weeks later she has full blown ringworms and that took us 2 months to clear with DAILY home cleaning. Now my poor cat has had diarrhea and vomiting for the past 5 days. I called yesterday at 6pm and the guy scheduled me for a drop off appointment at 8AM tomorrow. Come to find out HE NEVER MADE THE APPOINTMENT. The staff at this location is unskilled at handling animals, its kind of ridiculous. They are also super patronizing and condescending. My cat was extremely stressed at this location after we opted for a drop off appointment. I am super concerned about the conditions they kept my cat at here as this was highly unlikely behavior from him. The vet was also unwilling to listen to my concerns and kept offering different tests instead, only for them to come back as negative. Then she sent us home with no answer to why we came in. The vet techs or whoever administers the vaccinations are also disturbingly unskilled. She made a comment on how she there was a bubble in the syringe and how she doesn't know where it went? My cat took the first vaccination well considering the stress he endured for hours at this location. When it came to the second vaccination, he was too stressed and hissed and swatted her (all with no claws or biting) and she got so scared she dramatically just dropped the syringe. Ive never been to a vet clinic that is full of such untrained individuals. EDIT: was given medication to purchase on our last visit to help with the stress of the first visit. They told us they want him to take it 2 times (once at night, once an 1hr before), but we did not feel comfortable giving him 2 doses of a medication he has not tried before, especially since we would not be able to watch him while he was on the medication. After doing research online, most vets recommended a few hours before the appointment, which is what we did. However, we were turned away without even considering to try because he did not take 2 doses. Upon leaving, our cat has been so sedated from the prescribed capsule given to us by the vet that he cannot even stand and walk. I am THANKFUL I did not give him their recommended dosage, because as a pet owner this is hard to see. At this point I have tried calling the vet as I am unsure if he requires immediate medical attention or not, but no answer. Please consider taking your cats elsewhere, this location and vet seems to only be able to handle passed out animals. read more

The worse veterinary office ! The lady in the front with glasses is so dumb. She was clueless about all the services and treatments! Very unprofessional. When i first walked in waited about 5 minutes nobody at the counter or waiting. When the lady came out no "sorry for the wait or anything like that" and then she was clueless. I was told by the other Banfield hospital my pet is due for a shot or treatment, when i asked the lady about it she said he doesn't... than she went in the back and said "oo yea he does" They need to train their employees better... i don't usually rant about people but this place sucks! We adopted a puppy in late December and have taken her to this location a couple times. Our other dog has always gone to Banfield and no major issues. They kept getting her gender wrong, which is fine because she kinda looks like a boy dog I guess. After the second visit and several phone calls it was annoying they still were calling her a boy. After her second visit when the vet called to give the visit recap she said she was now fully vaccinated and can go to dog parks and daycare. I was confused because we had already used her vaccine records to go to daycares and they had told us on her prior visit she was fully vaccinated besides her last boosters. I then asked her a question about her growth and how big she may get fully grown (I told the vet her breed and she was only 18 weeks at the time) and she tried to tell me she might be close to full grown? Which makes no sense for any dog that young and made me question her knowledge. I'd already been thinking about going to a private vet and after their wellness plans are up I won't be going to Banfield anymore. read more

I originally made an appointment for today March 12th, and for some reason it did not register in their data that I had an appointment! No problem because they were more than happy to assist my dog Kirrä Mahal and I :) . Dr. Tam and Alex are so sweet! They took such great care of my dog and they were so sweet! I had a terrific experience during our first visit. As we continued treatment at this clinic, I found that the receptionist (Rachel?) was very unorganized. They had to move our scheduled appointment a few times, which was very inconvenient for us. I asked them to change my address a few times and they haven't changed it. I feel like there is a lot of miscommunication. I really hope they become more organized in the future. This was my first experience with Banfield as I brought in my first new pup for his vaccinations and wellness check-ups. Dr.Tam is extremely friendly and helpful when my pup was having diarrhea and recommended treatment prior to getting his vaccinations so it doesn't get worse. My pup has been a handful but the staff remained super friendly and even gave him treats to help settle him down. Especially during covid-19 and I couldn't physically be there with my pup at his first vet visit, they really help put me at ease when I saw they were handling my nervous pup with so much love! One of the receptionist, Rachel, is very nice and helpful as well. In response to a previous review regarding them being unorganized - Yes, they did call me to reschedule one of my appointments before, but they also always call to check on my pup post-visit to ensure I never had any concerns/issues. Honestly this Banfield is extremely responsive and I'm ok with deploying some more patience/empathy if their staff is a bit new because they do have quality vets/vet techs. In response to another comment about using the coupon for complimentary first visit (they waive your first office visit fee) - You can simply sign up using your email and they will e-mail you a coupon. You do not have to print the coupon out. Simply use your mobile phone to show the coupon or read the Coupon code PW#### which you can find on the bottom left corner in the fine print next to expiration date. During my first visit, I had actually forgotten all about the coupon and even paid at the office. However after calling, Rachel was kind enough to actually help me credit my first office visit fee and all I did was give her the Coupon PW#. Their staff are willing to help! After my chihuahua Jake's veterinarian retired, I had a difficult time finding a replacement. I was hesitant to go back to Banfield as I had a bad experience with their branch in Daly City. The main problem I had at this branch was refilling medication. They gave me expired medication twice and it was very difficult to fill a medication when the dose changed. There was back-and-forth between different staff and doctors and miscommunication about medication being ready when in reality there was none physically available. Fortunately, the staff is better. Dr. Pujianto became his primary veterinarian and communicated her concerns and recommendations regarding his health clearly. One of the staff we saw often was Mykel, whose energy was kind and helpful. Toward the end of Jake's life, he was very sick. My husband spoke with Mykel, who told him a personal story that helped us cope with our circumstances. After Jake passed away, we were surprised and appreciative to receive a card in the mail with heartfelt condolence messages from the staff at Banfield. read more

This review is for Banfield customer service and not this specific location. When I did I have my dog I did bring him here and staff was great! However my dog is no longer with us (almost a year now) and banfield is still charging me a monthly amount even though I've made them aware numerous times and now they've sent me to COLLECTIONS! What kind of company continues to charge you without continuing to use their services?! All they care about is money how sad of a business. If I ever get an animal in the future I will definitely not go through banfield and I suggest if your looking for health insurance for your pet look elsewhere!! read more

I am absolutely so happy they opened up this location! I knew Dr. Tam from when she was at the Daly City location. I loved how she cared for my dogs and so I followed her. Her and her team manage and run this hospital in Colma. All of her staff are so professional and caring towards my pets. I recently just met Dr. Chan too and she is also such a great veterinarian.
