This spot is a gem. Our family has been going to this pet hospital for over 20 years. Both our dogs have been well cared for over the years. The staff is super caring, helpful, and empathetic. They are knowledgeable and give great advice on the phone. All the doctors are highly competent and provide excellent care. Love them

I realize that I wrote a review for Pacifica Pet Hospital back in March, 2024, but feel compelled to write another review as I would like others to know how stellar this hospital, Dr. Choi, and Staff/Techs are! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, when people go over and beyond in ways that fill your heart and soul, it is important to say THANK YOU and be recognized.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We realized that our 14 (almost 15) year old Golden Retriever, Charlie, was struggling greatly with his back legs and suddenly basically lost all muscle control of his back leg muscles. Quality of life was diminishing rapidly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We called Dr. Choi's office and, bless their hearts, they instructed us to come in right away for an "end of life" assessment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The compassion and kindness our Charlie and us were given was so genuine and heartfelt that it helped us get through the appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When it was felt by both us and Dr. Choi that Charlie would just keep regressing, we made the very hard decision to have our boy euthanized. We were given privacy to be with Charlie and give him lots of hugs and kisses. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But, with the love and support of Dr. Choi and all the staff at PPH, it made all the difference in the world.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We have been going to PPH since we rescued Charlie in 2013 (through Rescued Love from Taiwan). It is, by far, the BEST animal hospital I have ever encountered. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would like to personally thank and send great gratitude to Dr. Choi, Kelly, Haina, Shelly, Staci, Bisma, Natalie, Nadesh, Tonni, Tianna, Molly, Heidi, and Jeffry.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You all make such a difference in the lives of our pets and their families.

Neither your pet nor your wallet are safe here. Misdiagnosing/medical error is reason enough to…read moreavoid any vet. The less than honest billing is the cherry on top here. For a vet practice, having friendly and professional staff and clean facilities is table stakes. One would expect competence and honest pricing as well, but not here. There is dangerous incompetence with the medical care, and deceptive/overbilling (as much as 70% higher than other vets I got quotes from for the same procedure). For one, the vet (won't name out of respect) misdiagnosed a clinically significant cardiac condition of one of my dogs (2 other vets disagreed with her). I gave her the benefit of the doubt and came back with my other dog, for whom she also misdiagnosed a chronic joint condition. She also insisted that we extract a tooth due to a (possible) infection, and two other vets confirmed this is not necessary and that the tooth is not even dead. The vet simply lacks nuance and sophistication in understanding and navigating conditions and treatment options, and I did NOT feel safe letting her put my pet under to perform any procedures. Had I trusted this vet, my dog would be unnecessarily missing a tooth. I also confirmed over multiple conversations/emails the unscrupulous billing practices designed to avoid scrutiny. They provided me three different estimates for the same procedure, where the exact same line items were priced differently in each estimate. When asked, the employee could not explain this and kept making nonsensical excuses that made me feel like I was talking to a wall (or she thought I'd be too stupid to keep pressing). They refused to provide an itemized estimate for a procedure that I could submit to insurance. They explicitly said that if they were to provide such a receipt, they would have to charge me 85% more (confirmed both on the phone and over email). They'd provide the exact same services, but if they have to provide transparency into the billing, they would simply double the bill. They simply would not break out the costs of different medications/procedures as needed for insurance unless they doubled the price. I went to two other vets and neither had issues providing this kind of pricing transparency. Go at your own risk.

Our senior dog woke up with an infected eye, and when I called, they were able to see her the same day. From the very beginning, the experience was completely different from what we were used to. We were met in the parking lot, welcomed warmly, and immediately felt cared for. The entire staff was kind, calm, and attentive -- and the vet was incredibly knowledgeable and thorough. She spent real time with us, not only addressing the eye issue but also talking through our dog's overall health, answering questions, and making sure we felt informed and reassured. It never felt rushed. We previously went to Banfield and were often left feeling like just another number -- with our dog spending hours in a kennel for what should have been a simple visit. This experience was the exact opposite: personal, compassionate, and genuinely refreshing. We are so, so happy we made the switch and feel relieved knowing our senior dog is now in such good hands. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a vet who truly cares -- about both pets and their people.

There were genuine positives about my experience. When I could only afford one day of the quoted three-day stay, they extended his stay without charge to ensure his pancreas levels improved. The ER doctor was caring and thoroughly answered my questions. The vet tech that first night was exceptional, she included me in his care, brought me a Gatorade, and spent her time between patients trying to find something he'd eat. She was outstanding. My main feedback is that the communication at this clinic was a consistent problem, and it affected Patches' care directly. I was handed an invoice before anyone had a real conversation with me about my dog. I was told to wait in a room, then sent back to the waiting room, then called back after another half hour with no explanation. On the second night, I arrived at 10 PM and asked the technician when Patches had last been outside to go potty. He said he didn't know. The chart said noon. Ten hours -- while they were pumping him with IV fluids, in a dog with kidney disease. When I raised the issue, the tech awkwardly told me "there's no neglect here." Although I'm sure it's not intentional, there is no excuse. If your internal communication is so bad that you are neglecting patients because of it, then it needs to be resolved immediately. After discharge, his levels worsened significantly within a week. I don't know why the doctor said that we should do fluid therapy every three days and then see how it goes from there. What happened was he ended up needing daily fluid therapy and his levels were so high that he needed to be hospitalized again after one week. If we had just done daily fluid therapy for the entire first week, maybe his levels wouldn't have ever gotten that high. These are all things that we would've been able to communicate about if there was any sort of communication throughout the whole process. I also would've liked to have known that gabapentin is for palliative care and it destroys your kidneys. I was told to give it to him following his hospitalization and his kidney levels went from stage three to double the maximum of end stage kidney failure within one week. The vet nutritionist said that this was all manageable with diet and fluid therapy and the veterinarian at the hospital said that if I don't put him down within a week, he would become violently ill and I shouldn't let it get that far. I met about five different doctors during that week, and 3 different vet techs. As you can tell from reading this, I was being told a lot of different things by a lot of different people. This was a very stressful and chaotic time for me. Meanwhile, my dog is in pain, loosing his energy and appetite and being neglected in critical care, of all the places. It would've been nice if I had somebody who wasn't being pulled away to take care of animals to just sit down and talk to me. I believe this is a capable team and I understand you guys are doing really hard work. My situation was complicated and it was the end of his life, so it's hard to say that anything could've gotten much better. But I am upset about the lack of communication and it does need to be addressed.

They were polite, but the pricing was outrageous. I was told…read moreI had to pay $180 just to walk through the door, before anyone would even look at my dog. After they took her to the back, they came out with a $2,000 estimate to fix a simple leg cut that only needed stitches. My dog cut her leg on a pole in Park Presidio -- this was a straightforward wound, not a major surgery. I still have no idea what they were charging $2,000 for. It felt like a surprise bill designed to pressure people in an emergency. Maybe because she was a staffordshire terrier, I don't know. If you're in a crisis and expect transparent, reasonable care, go somewhere else.

My usual Vet was temporarily closed without notice due to facility issues. I was searching for some other vets to call because my dog was stung by a bee and in a lot of pain and i was seeking advice on how to tell if he was needing to come into a emergency clinic. Any dog vet, or even exotic vet as i have exotic animals, would pick up my call and give me some advice, warning signs to look out for, and if busy suggest me to a partner vet clinic or recommended facility. Whoever picked up the phone did none of this. I was simply told they are all booked for today and that they can't give any medical advice without seeing my pet. Did not even tell me at the very least a warning sign that would be pretty obvious like "Is he vomiting?" seemed to not care about me or my dog whatsoever. That is insanely disappointing i'm dumbfounded by the man who picked up the phone. Didn't even say have a nice day or hope your dog feels better, TF? Hire better employees or give them more breaks so they aren't complete jerks when on the phone. Absolutely ridiculous. I suggest taking your pet's healthcare elsewhere. Plenty of better options in the Bay Area who are happy to answer the phone and suggest to you what to do and if your pet needs to come into a clinic.
