Attention donut connoisseurs: this is the place to be. Seriously, from the AMAZING donuts to the old-fashioned decor, there's nothing I would change about this place. The orange and teal decor on the (spinny!) seats and walls makes you feel like it's 1970 and that's more than okay. I tried the flavored iced coffee today and it was such a good decision. So good! I have drove by the Colonial Donut Shop about 100 times, but finally got to try it this past weekend. The donuts were so soft and flavorful even at 11:30am, near closing time, which I think is noon. I got the honey dipped, my boyfriend got the jelly, and we both shared a coffee roll. They even warmed the coffee roll for us! I wanted to eat all the donuts. We both also got bagels and cream cheese (blueberry and onion). They were toasted, cream cheesed, and cut into four pieces; the best. We got regular coffees, but there were a couple different flavors, if you want. Service was friendly and welcoming. The prices were gosh darn cheap (about $10 for all that). They only criticism was the menu was hard to find and sometimes we had to wait a tad too long to get service, like another cup of coffee or the bill. But, hey, if I could only take a 1/4 of a star off for that, I would. I definitely recommend Colonial Donut Shop to everyone, and I will be back - frequently! read more

Phenomenal place! Easily one of the best places on the south shore. Old fashioned, excellent quality food and service. The donuts are fresh and delicious (and I don't even like donuts!), the bagels are the best I've ever had, and the coffee is yummy too. I will definitely be taking a break from Starbucks, and stopping here for a good ol' coffee without all the fanciness. Staff is kind and helpful. Places like this just don't exist anymore...love it here! Oh and this place is super cheap!!! You could bring your entire family in and pay under $10 for everything! read more

These donuts are MIRACULOUS. If you've only had chain restaurant donuts, you've never had a real donut. The bland insubstantial pasteries you'll find at Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme pale in comparison to the lightly crunchy on the outside, tender and substantial on the inside treats you will find here. These are AMAZING, the breakfast sandwiches as well are delicious, and so cheap I actually feel a little guilty. Combine with the charming atmosphere (colourful walls, friendly and companionable staff, and if you come in early enough, members of the local PD sitting there hanging out with other locals, essentially a Norman Rockwell painting come to life) this place (which you have to get up early to see) is a MUST SEE. read more

If my son and I have time on Saturday mornings, this is where we go to grab some breakfast. Everyone there is nice. Patrons, Staff, etc. The staff really makes an effort to learn about the people who frequent the place. It's honestly the type of place you think of when you think of small towns and the places that make them special. Now the donuts are great. The coffee rolls superbly done. Crisp, but not over done. I read the reviews and I was very excited to check this place out. I wanted a variety, so I got glazed, choc glazed, choc frosted and a blueberry. Blueberry was the best of the bunch. Glazed and choc frosted were just ok. Choc glazed was uneatable. It was dry and hard. The donuts are def bigger than your average donut, but the quality wasn't what I expected. Service was awesome this morning. I bought a dozen assorted donuts and they were super fresh and so yummy. I should have bought a coffee roll, since the guy in front of me purchased a few dozen of them, but I didn't- I'll save that for next trip. Literally the best and freshest doughnuts!! Not much seating inside and Saturday mornings it's mobbed there mid morning though. Also only street parking so keep that in mind when visiting! Hands down, the best donuts ever. No matter what type of donut is to be had, these are as good as it gets. The chocolate donut is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. And the jelly donut...are you kidding me! After the initial bite (you have to do it slowly so you can feel the nuance) the sugar and jelly are like a fruit filled party. The coffee is good, but not as good as I make, but it's certainly better than the chain coffee maker that is on every street corner. You know, that one that America allegedly runs on. Staff is colorful & so is the clientele. The shop itself is bubbling with life & lacquered with lovely nostalgia. Counter help made my coffee (cream & sugar) & it was spot on. OMG. I live a block or so away, and had never visited this establishment. Until one day when a neighbor brought me over a bag of "Colonial Donuts." I literally was blown away by how the donuts tasted. I went there a few days later and will say this...1) If you never try a glazed/honey dipped donut you have not lived. 2) I had my 9 month yr old daughter with me and the man who worked there said, "Please have a seat and stay with your beautiful daughter."
