The biggest draw is maybe that it's open 24/7, but their 'nuts are still pretty legit. If you come post-11pm, the crowd is maybe a little... not customer-y and more homeless and seeking shelter. After watching a show on donuts, I was on a hunt for some of my own donuts (thanks Yelp)! The first thing that got my attention was that this place is open from 6am-5:30am... Crazy right? They have the best selection of donuts from glazed, old fashion, twists, raised, chocolate raised and my favorite, raised crumbs. All for $1 each. Service is always quick and friendly. Thus location on Lakeshore is bigger and much busier so their donuts are fresh because they go quick. You know...Oakland doesn't have a Kripsy Kremes...so sometimes you gotta settle. Pros: Open 24 hours!!!, workers are always really nice and later on at night they play Cambodian music and sing out loud or sit and complain about their wives (my Cambodian friend translated what they were saying...hilarious!!!). The donut holes are yummy. Cons: The crazies, druggies and drunks come out at night to hang out here because its open 24 hours. There is always this urine stench, not sure where its coming from. No bathroom (except for workers and police of course). When you ask "are these fresh...just made?" they always reply "yes" enough though they've been sitting there for a long time. They unfortunately don't have that red button people wait for like Krispy Kremes hahahahaha. I've studied here a couple times but its really distracting because of the people who come in and out. People play chess here sometimes and meet for coffee too. Kids hang out here late at night as well. Don't ever leave your belongings unattended. Even if you are ordering please look over your shoulder. The crazies love to eyeball your wallet. Sometimes they'll get enough guts to come up and ask for money. Working a night shift so went in to pick up some donuts to share with the team. There were at least 3 people working, but at least half of the donuts were out. For a 24/7 place that's pretty disappointing. They raised their prices during COVID times, which is also a negative. Least of all, they were out of doughnut holes, which is really disappointing. Okay, if they raise their prices or whatever, but they didnt even provide napkins. How low-class is this place? It was a young African-American boy that was ahead of me who was around 10 in the way the lady behind the counter was talking to him, was unbelievable, telling him next time you come in make sure you have parent with you. Well deserving of its high praise. I was around the corner at the Lake and decided to come over and pick up some snacks for our flight back to Miami. The donuts were so good that I treated them like suspicious characters and didn't allow them on the plane. Blueberry cake donut! It's got a shady looking-possibly over fried-exterior but don't let that fool you. Once you crack that baby open there's only pink stained blueberry goodness waiting for you.
