His demeanor and behavior towards us made an already sad experience worse. He was very cold and I was ready to write it off until there was a painfully noticeable difference in the engagement between my family and another woman who was there about a loved one as well. When you lose a loved one, you hope to be treated with kindness and compassion. While I can understand that everyone may not have the capacity to do so, given the line of business this is truly unacceptable. Horrific experience…read more I accompanied a friend to pick up the remains of their spouse today and it was one of the worst encounters in recent memory. We walked in and were greeted by a man (without a mask) with a, "Hey, what's up, guys?". The casual and insensitive tone was a bit jarring but not a big deal. But the transactional nature of the process was. We were treated as if someone had accidentally dropped a delivery at the wrong address and we were mildly inconveniencing him by picking it up. When another friend asked the man to kindly put on a mask, he was told (not once but twice) that he was welcomed to wait outside. Due to great restraint, nothing else was said but my widower fried was clearly confused and distressed. Very quickly, another gentleman stepped in to finish the "transaction", which tells me this was not the first time this level of disrespect had happened. The whole wretched experience of picking up the remains of a loved one was made surreal by an insensitive and uncaring man who has clearly been doing this too long. I highly recommend trusting your loved ones and their families anywhere else.

Yrcania is genuinely phenomenal. She made everything feel natural, each conversation was focused on what would represent my mom the best. I appreciated that they only hold one wake at a time so you feel like the space is really yours. One thing that really stood out to me is that my parents are from 2 different faiths and she ensured that both were represented at the wake. Prior to her death, I had been dealing with Ron Rogers, who was a pleasure to deal with and explained everything clearly to me. When I called the funeral home shortly after mom's death and left a message with the answering service, Michael Lonza, the funeral director, called me back in maybe 10 minutes. His initial words were not only very compassionate, but extremely calming. Long story short, he basically told me not to worry and he and his team would take over removal of her body and begin preparing it for burial. Mind you, this funeral home did all of this work without any contract or check given to them. When I went to the funeral home later in the morning to do the paperwork, Ron was already working with the cemetery to arrange a burial for the following day as well as getting death certificates from New York City. Although he is not Jewish, Ron is a real mensch. He even arranged for an excellent rabbi for our family for the service and some nice cards to give out to people at the burial. I express my gratitude to Manhattan Jewish Funeral Home, and especially Ron, for making a difficult time in our family's life a lot easier. I cannot recommend this funeral home enough.

From start to finish, our experience at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth was outstanding…read more When Mom went into hospice, my family and I were faced with the inevitable and sad task of making final arrangements for her. My call to the funeral home was answered by a sympathetic assistant who not only took my contact information and the basic situation, but took the time to ask how the family was doing and share a little about her family's experience with hospice. It was a genuinely nice gesture. I honestly didn't know what to expect when we met with the pre-planning counselor to discuss options and plans. As a cynic, I anticipated an upsell attempt, but the counselor didn't try to talk us into anything we didn't already have in mind. In fact, he made sure to let us know about veterans' burial benefits and other options that could have reduced the expense of the arrangements. By the time we left, we felt very comfortable about having Mom's memorial at H&B. The experience continued this way after Mom's death and through to the end of the memorial. Shortly after I sent an email to the pre-planner advising him of her passing on a Sunday morning, I received a call from H&B, letting me know that they were in touch with the hospital, and setting up a time for us to come in to see the funeral director the next morning. Their attentiveness took a lot of anxiety out of my desire to do the best for my mom. For the memorial, we were both surprised and touched by the lovely ways the team personalized the experience, including small keepsakes reflecting Mom's hobby, and envelopes addressed to Mom's favorite charity for visitors to make a donation in lieu of flowers. As others have said, this is not a business you look forward to using. That said, my family and I would recommend Bradley, Haeberle & Barth, based on our experience. Their care and attention to detail were a comfort in a difficult time.
