He said there wasn't much he could do, and he handed me off to Hyundai corporate. Corporate did nothing. Colonial couldn't care less about this major safety issue. At the time of purchase of my new car, the vehicle was missing floor mats, a tow plug, and an updated inspection sticker. A month later, they finally call to tell me to come in to get the items. I arrive today to be told that they do not have the tow plug or the floor mats. Ive been sitting here for over an hour waiting for a sticker. Colonial Hyundai, this is not how to satisfy customers. I appreciate that you will ship or drive the additional items to my house, since I suggested that in the first place (a month ago). Why call me and tell me that you have the items and confirm that I should come to your dealership three days later? I must say, after the dealership tried to change my agreed purchasing price three times (yes, three times), after trying to lowball my trade in by $2-$3,000, and after this current experience that will not refer your business to anyone. TERRIBLE SERVICE!! I bought a nice looking 2013 VW CC on 1/28. My son originally called to see if the car was still available as we were driving there. From the very beginning it was a terrible experience. First we wait a while to sign the paperwork only to find that they put my son's name on the loan when I was clear from the beginning that I was purchasing the car. Almost 2 months after the purchase my temporary tags were close to expiring. I called twice to find out where the new tags were. The second call a woman told me she had tried to call me because I needed to take the car to DMV for inspection. I never received a call and why didn't they tell me that I needed to take the car to DMV the night I bought the car instead of me having a tag that was expiring in a few days and I was the one calling them to find out what was happening. In my previous car purchase experience the dealership handled everything. Now I have only a few days to get it inspected , apply for tags and wait 21 days to receive them. Did the dealership offer to pay for an extension? Hardly! My son took the car to the DMV only to have the car stall during the inspection so it failed...further delays. Next I paid over $600 to fix the stall problem. In fact I had to take the car 3 different times to a repair shop to fix issues and we only had it a couple months. In fact I have to keep a case of oil in the trunk as the car burns though about a quart a week, which was verified by my repairman as I had just paid for an oil change shortly before we took it in for the stalling repair. There were no signs of an oil leak on the road etc. The DMV stated we needed the title to the car, which my experience is the title is owned by the bank until it's paid so the DMV woman called Colonial Hyandai and spoke to a manager to clarify everything as things weren't moving along. She asked the manager if he could express mail a copy of the title to her attention and he agreed. We would have to wait for the manager to send it and then go back to the DMV for a 3rd time to order the tags with the title sent in. I had to pay for an extended temp tags as they expired. Needless to say the manager never sent anything to the DMV as promised. After wasting more time to get this I ended up calling Colonial Hyandai again and was told that the person we spoke to was incorrect and they did not send anything. I had t orate off work and take the car to DMV for a fourth time and walk through the detailed instructions to finally get this resolved. I finally got the inspection paperwork and mailed the original to Colonial. A woman called and said it would take an additional 21 days after she placed the order. Once again my extended temp tags were expiring so I mentioned it to the woman and once again Colonial did not take any responsibility for the disastrous process and offer to pay for the extension. She said that maybe DMV will extend again for free if I ask nicely. A car dealership not understanding that DMV DOESN't do anything for fee is remarkable. I refused to pay again for something I feel was Colonial's issue from the very beginning. Now I got a ticket for expired tags costing another $104.50. I finally received my true license and tags on 5/28 exactly 4 months after purchasing the car. Their communication is terrible and their service and responsibility is non existing. I have since read a lot of terrible review for this dealership. Do yourselves a favor and stay away. PS- I am not someone who bashes companies ever for poor service as I am the one who typically just walks away but I had to voice my complete displeasure this time as the whole process was jaw dropping. This review is the first and only review I have made and encompasses over nine years of bad experiences. There are so many examples that instead of listing them separately I will summarize them. Recalls: My 2011 Sonata must hold the record for number of recalls. Unfortunately, it seems like almost every time I took my car in to check on the recalled item, I had to inform the dealer what it was for! On several occasions, I am sure that I ended up paying out of pocket for items that should have been covered for free. Only once, and after I brought it to their attention repeatedly, did Colonial honor a recall (axle issue). One of the salesman said that they had no way of keeping track of the recalls because the came from corporate! Service: This is obviously where they make the most money. Outrageous prices for just about everything. I learned my lesson early on and take my car to a generic repair shop for most things, but, occasionally, I feel the need to bring it to Colonial in hopes that they might say something like, "oh yea" that's a common issue on this car! Nope never once! Even the simplest of things like calling you back to tell you my car is ready, or what the "FINAL" price is before I agree to it, is rarely accomplished. Literally, if I don't call them 2 or 3 times that day, I have no idea if they looked at the car and when I will get it back. Today was the final straw and led me to post this. After waiting 3 days with no update, I received a quote via text to fix my car. I called to verify, but, got an answering machine, so I agreed to the payment on the text. Later that day I received a phone call stating that they misquoted the price to fix my car and quoted me over the phone the new "price", I reluctantly agreed. I get to the dealer and they tell me the new price was just for one part and the total was larger. The number difference from the original quote to the final price was almost 3 times the original amount! Stay away from this place and please tell everyone you know! I bought my Elantra 2013 limited in June 2012, they verbally insured me that it had the blue link and I'll be able to start it from my Amarth phone...well like 1/2 later when I got a smart phone different dealership told me that I do not gave blue link. They tried to charge me $300 for some extra protective windshield top (which they after a fight took off the total bill plus it never worked- it's cracked plus the ice froze on it, rains doesn't just fall off...) One more think that I just find out is that they probably gave me the cheapest tires because I just hit them checked (25k miles) and they are in very bad shame and have to be replaced immediately. Our Palisades received two flat tires due to a road hazard. We used the Hyundai roadside assistance and that worked great. The next morning ( it was late at night when this happened ) we got a call from a saleslady from Colonial Hyundai in Downington PA telling us it would take two weeks to a month to get tires for the car. She said she would help us by selling us a new Hyundai at the same price of the one we had ( mind you no credit on the two years we already paid ). I explained to her we couldn't do that we had a kid home with a babysitter and needed to get home by the next day. She said there was nothing else she could do. About a half hour later I got a call from the service manager when I explained to her our predicament she told me she would look into it and get back to us. She called back about a half hour later and said your car will be ready in about a hour and a half. The service manager was great. However the saleslady really needs to go. RUN AWAY !!!!! If I could give this dealership 0 stars I would. I came to this dealer from Delaware because of the Costco car buying program. Mistake #1.. I bought a 2020 Hyundai Elantra from here and it has to be the worst customer service I have ever come across. This was the first time buying a car for me, and they made the experience a nightmare. There were multiple instances where the salesperson/GM flat out lied to me. I purchased the car in July and did not receive my registration until the end of DECEMBER. I had to continue to go to the DMV and get new temp tags. And when I asked the DMV to look for the paperwork submitted by Hyundai it was no where to be found. I tried getting in contact with someone from Hyundai to talk about this multiple times. Nothing. I called the tag registration company that Hyundai uses and she told me the DMV "lied to me" about the documents not being submitted, and that she was unable to show me proof of when the documentation was submitted after several times of me asking for it...? Finally after months of calling and trying to figure this out. I got in contact with the Controller, Pat Evans. I told her everything, how I felt that I was taken advantage of because I was a first time car buyer. She assured me the problem would be solved and I would be reimbursed for the extra tags, etc.. Again, not solved. After five months of this nonsense, I GO TO the dealership (which is 50 minutes away from my home) and essentially demand that I spoke to the GM. The salesman there didn't listen to a word I said, he was interrupting me and told me he would write a note for the GM to call me the next day. Finally we get in contact. After I told him I'd be perusing legal action and to the better business bureau my tags came in the mail. I tried scheduling three phone calls with this man to try and get refunded. One phone call, he HUNG UP ON ME mid conversation and said he would call me back as he was having a family emergency. Of course, not a problem call me when back when you get a chance. Never calls me back. So I text him again about scheduling a time to talk. He says how about at 11:30, I said unfortunately I cannot, can you do later? And you guessed it!!!!! Again, nothing. The entire situation was absolutely ridiculous. I had to pay for multiple temp tags, had to take off of work so I could go to the DMV, and on multiple occasions was lied to. Listen to this review and dont even waste your time here. And avoid this dealership at all costs. An actual nightmare. My NIGHTMARE Started On 4th of July 2018 heading home to Reading Pa.... the car completely shut off no signal, no signs, it just shut off while I was in traffic! I was completely shocked it was very hot outside so I didn't know what it was or why it happened. I called roadside assistance through Hyundai they could not help me because I was on an expressway so the state police called a tow company called Guenthers in Pleasantville New Jersey (where I'm from) (was visiting family in Atlantic City) they came and towed the car and the next day they looked at it and said it was the ENGINE! (ON A 2014) Sonata that I purchased from y'all! I ended up calling (my dealership) where I bought the car which was Colonial Hyundai of Downingtown Pa. Well let me just tell you y'all were rude and basically told me because I went over the warranty miles by 507 miles (I was at 120,507) that I'd have to buy an engine myself and have the car fixed. Upset, crying, and frustrated I called Hyundai headquarters who said the same thing. But they told me to have it towed to Sport Hyundai Dodge in Egg Harbor Twp NJ...well let me say Bruce was a COMPLETE GOD SEND! He Said don't worry about anything we will get you a new engine and give you a rental car too...he said that they would pay $30 a day & I'd have to pay $10...they had my car 2 1/2 weeks but it wasn't the waiting of the car it was the kindness and understanding he and his employees displayed! Even Enterprise in Pleasantville NJ was great.... upgraded me to an SUV HYUNDAI SANTE FE! Overall Bruce, Guenthers Towing, and Enterprise made this NIGHTMARE better for me and I thank them from the bottom of my heart but I will not buy my 3rd Hyundai from this company or return to your dealership! Cons: Inaccurate description of a car we were interested in felt like a bait and switch since the car was misrepresented on Cars.com We spent several cold minutes on the lot ourselves attempting to find the cars we came to see when the salesman couldn't locate them. Brrr. Deceptive pricing on the internet as they add almost $1000 to the price with a "prep" fee, which is disclosed in the advertising if you read carefully, but should simply be added to the price up front. Then the salesman will tell you what you "get" on the new vehicle but never states that each thing is an additional charge to the tune of about $4000 dollars. Our salesman was Zach Barba who was not super friendly and son of the finance guy so don't trust them.... they leave you sit for a very long time so that you are annoyed and frustrated then the finance guy comes and says "let's get you guys out of here." He rushes you through the paperwork as fast as humanly possible in the guise of getting you home and away from the dealership when actually they are hiding the additional fees and then email you the paperwork so that you can't review it until you get home. Salesman Mo Ali is immensely knowledgeable, and GM Steve Tucci worked diligently to get me the best car possible for my price, pulling up dozens of vehicles and applying every incentive he could. They even gave me MORE for my trade than I expected. Very laid back approach - no tricks, no bait-and-switch, not typical "closing" hooks. Felt more like a couple of friends trying to help me find a great deal, and if I decided to walk, no biggie. I did plenty of pricing research before going to Colonial and I'm blown away by how well I made out. I had 4 safety recalls to be repaired on my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. I live in Wilmington, Delaware, and all 5 of the Hyundai dealerships in my area have horrendous reviews for their service departments. This dealership is almost an hour away from my house, but it had better reviews than my local dealerships. I was extremely anxious trying to find a location that had better than a 1 star review and was a doable drive as I would have to wait at the dealership while they did the repairs; I would also have to make sure that I could bring my car after I dropped my kids off and have it be finished in time for me to leave to pick them up after school. I spoke to Donna on the phone at Colonial, and she reassured me that they would be able to accommodate my needs. Sure enough, when I brought my car in, I was given an estimated finish time of 1:00 pm. I was signing the paperwork and walking out to my car to head home a few minutes before noon. I've had no problems with my car, and the people in both the dealership and the service department were extremely kind. Thank you so much!! I would give this dealership zero stars if I could. We bought a new Genesis GV70 here in June 2021. We were guaranteed by both the sales manager and the service department manager that they would provide valet service with a loaner vehicle for maintenance even though we lived 30 miles from the dealership. This was the closest dealership to us, otherwise we would have gone elsewhere. Anytime I called to schedule the routine maintenance I was told that they would not provide valet service. After discussing our agreement, they would concede, but whenever I called for the next service, it was always the same argument. The last time they had my car, they provided the valet, but no loaner and then after they got the car to the shop told me I would need to pay for the service because it wasn't actually due for service. The car alerts me when service is due. They said that it was based on mileage and it wasn't reset the last time. They drove the car back to me without doing any service, and told me they reset everything so I wouldn't get anymore service notifications until I reached the correct interval. When I went out the next day, the same alert came up again saying that my car was due for maintenance. I called today to schedule the routine complimentary maintenance based on the interval I was told by the service department, and I was told that they are no longer providing any complimentary maintenance or warranty work for Genesis and I will need to take my car to West Chester. I love my car, but this dealership is full of empty promises. read more

When shopping for a new Hyundai Tucson, salesman Burt Perry at Colonial tried pulling every shitty sales tactic, repeatedly. Found the car I wanted, in the color and trim I wanted. It was marked as a "Manager's Special" so I was excited that I might get a good deal on exactly the car I was looking for. When asked for -detailed- pricing information, he took 10 days to get back to me (after repeated requests) and then only sent me the monthly cost, without including the term or the final price. When asked for more detail, he sent the sale price, but not any breakdowns on how he came to that price. When pushed for "full price breakdown" he passed off the factory rebates as colonial's own discounts, and then refused to clarify. To be clear, this was on a top of the line Tucson that was advertised as "manager's special" and then literally wasn't marked down a single penny by the dealership. In the day and age where everything can be looked up on the internet, I don't understand how salespeople think they can still get away with lying like this. All the back and forth took weeks, and after that I got tired of his scams and stopped following up. I felt dirty, angry, and annoyed just speaking with him and having to ask the same question over and over to get any information. This is not how a car buying experience should be. read more

My original review expressed a personal issue that I had with the dealership involving my experience returning a lease that, when all was said and done, was a disaster and made me feel like I was cheated and taken advantage of. While I still feel that way, my review should still be objective. The salesman who leased my car to me (a gentleman named Chris; not sure if he still works there) was very friendly and accommodating to my needs and answered many of my questions. The finance team themselves (not the manager, but the team that I spoke to every so often) was friendly and helpful when issues arose (of which there were a few here and there). I was in yesterday 12/20 to have my car inspected and the oil changed. The was also a recall that needed to be done. I was there for 2 hours. I realize that it takes time. Where my car was done the bill came to $499. I was told I needed a battery which I authorized The rep did not go over the bill with me and was rather curt. I paid the bill because I needed my car. When I look at the invoice I couldn't understand. There was nothing listed. The labor costs were almost $200. I bought my car here and have been getting the service done here. Also wish my battery registered as needing to be replaced because it wouldn't start later that day and needed a jump to get home and also a jump to go back to the dealer. Was so frustrated because JP said on the phone the night before that they would take my car right away. I wound up being there for 2 hrs which annoyed me even more. Went here on a Saturday for the service center and it was way too busy. Parking was a nightmare and there was a whole row of cars that had to reverse out of the service area for some reason. I went for a state inspection and made a reservation the week before. It took around 2.5 hours total. There are comfy chairs in the waiting room and a tv with hgtv turned on. I left and came back two hours later so I only really waited 30 minutes. Honestly, it took a lot longer than expected and I'm not sure I want to come back because they were too busy which caused things to take long. read more

Included was a scratch off indicating that you could win a prize if your number matched the number that was listed across the front. Scratched it off and low and behold we supposedly won $500. When I originally bought my car, the experience was ok. The car was a good deal with "Internet pricing", but the workers there were saying that it must have been a mistake and tried selling me other cars. I ended getting the Internet price for the car + $500...still a better deal than anywhere else I had seen. I received an "invitation" to get an upgrade on my car for less than I was currently paying *along* with a check for over $13K for my current car (2011 Sonata) along w/ their 40% Black Friday sale. Sounded fishy, but I thought I would be able to get a good deal for an upgrade...I was wrong. After 3 hours of waiting. they said for an "upgrade" they could give me a deal at $380 / month (2.5% APR) for 72 months ($27,360 total)! That's the same price as just buying the car without any "deals" and them getting my car for free. WASTING MY TIME AT COLONIAL HYUNDAI OF DOWNINGTOWN. 4423 West Lincoln Hwy Downingtown, PA 19335 I have been looking for a new SUV for my wife, and my wife and I decided on the Hyundai Santa Fe. Unfortunately, the color and the features we wanted were not readily available in the car inventory at my local Hyundai Dealer. According to their on-line inventory, Colonial Hyundai of Downingtown had the exact car we wanted. On a Saturday morning at 10:30 AM, I called Colonial and asked to speak to a manager. He told me the car was on the lot. I was to meet the manager at 12:15. Colonial Hyundai is about a 45 minute drive from my home so I wanted to be sure that Colonial had the exact car I wanted to buy. I called back about ten minutes later and this time I spoke to a salesman. I asked him to be sure that the car I would be looking at was a Front Wheel Drive. He called back ten minutes later and confirmed that the car was a Front-Wheel Drive. So thinking I was getting to the end of my car-buying ordeal, I went to Colonial Hyundai, fighting my way through Saturday traffic and managed to arrive at 12:20. I was greeted at the door and told that the car I wanted had been sold. Wow! I turned away to leave saying that they had wasted my time. I was urged to come back that they told me they could have the same car for me in two days. It didn't make sense to me that a car could have been sold in about twenty minutes. It just didn't seem possible, so I asked to see the invoice. The manager said in an unpleasant manner: "That's none of your business!" There it was the old trick of "bait and switch." I turned around to walk out while saying my time had been wasted. I also mentioned that what I was being told was a lot of bull. It would seem that inconsideration and misleading information seem to be the order of the day at Colonial Hyundai. As the manager walked me through the door he said that he didn't want me for a customer. That is laughable, did he really think that I would ever do business with a person who was clearly not trustworthy. Nevertheless, after telling me he didn't want me for a customer, he showed me a paper that reflected the price he wanted to charge me for the car. Great place to go, especially if you enjoy mechanics leaving your lights on overnight. If they're that careless about something so elementary, I'd hate to see the attention to detail towards more in depth repairs. That's of course, if they can figure out what the problem is.
