Went for lunch. This restraint is better than the mex restraints in NB/CB. Service was excellent! Wife had chicken mole, I had chili reno. Both dishes were very good. We will be back! 8-10/18. My husband and I love the chili rellenos. They are delicious and we have them almost every week. We are regular customers. Recently, we're on a carne asada burrito kick. Those are also super delicious. The service is great and every one is very pleasant and friendly. Makes for a nice e experience. They do take out too! We are fortunate to have found them. A review from an LA visitor: solid! We've got no shortage of fantastic Mexican places down south, so I tend to set a very high bar. I've been to Oregon Mexican restaurants where the salsa tasted more like marinara sauce than anything else. I always brace myself for a less-than-stellar experience. That proved unnecessary with the Colonial. Salsa was good, as were the Margaritas, and my Expresso Burrito (Pork Chile Verde) was very tasty. This is definitely comfort food Tex Mex, but service was prompt and everything was cooked well. Will visit again next trip for sure! read more

Tired after traveling for hours and a stiff 2 hour hike besides, we wanted comfort food. Mexican sounded good, and we ended up here. A VERY happy choice. Ambience: very much "diner" with booths and a few tables. Wait staff: Friendly and knowledgeable Menu: A little more than the average Mexican Food offerings, and a few unusual items Chips and salsa: Chips were warm, could have used a little more salt. The salsa was the spiciest thing we ate, at about a 2 on the 1-10 scale. Quite tasty. Test meal: If I'm trying a restaurant that offers a chile relleno, I ask if they're made in house, and if so, always try it. They use a poblano chile which is common in this area, but not my favorite. However, it was a very good version of a poblano chile relleno. No heat to mention, but the balance of spices was very pleasant, better than average. The filling was gooey, the stem had been removed, and the coating was not too heavy, not too light, and not greasy. Sounds negative, but I enjoyed it, as did my companion. The relleno came as part of a combination plate with enchilada, taco or a few other options. They had a spinach enchilada plate, not offered as part of the combination... but they were happy to substitute. I have been eating enchiladas since I was a child in New Mexico, and have high standards. This "spinach enchilada" was among the best I've ever eaten. Start with the filling which had a lot of diced mushrooms, onion and spinach. I love mushrooms. They served it with a Crema sauce that was just right: great flavor, not heavy, an excellent choice for this filling. My companion had ordered the pork enchilada which was ... good... but this was GREAT. Serving: I left the rice and most of the beans on the plate. They were the least interesting part of the meal. My companion ate them and said they were "normal". If you're after a giant entree, you may need to order something other than the combo plates. Many places add a dollop of guacamole and one of sour cream, maybe on a bed of shredded lettuce. Our plates had just a touch of lettuce, nothing else. We ordered a side of guacamole, but, alas, it never showed up (nor were we charged).I'm sure the wait staff can answer questions about serving size. Bar: I asked for and got a Negra Modelo con limón, served as a chilled mug, a small slice of lime and a bottle. The chilled mug is a nice touch. I suspect they have other drinks but didn't explore. My companion got a Dr. Pepper from the fountain. We will definitely be back for the spinach enchiladas! read more

First time here and....Delicious, delicious, deeeelicious! We ordered a ground beef chimichanga, a shredded pork super burrito, and Chili Colorado for my moms bday. Everything from the chips and salsa to the after dinner coffee was superb! The steak and pork were extremely tender and flavorful. The service is also impeccable! Nice, friendly, prompt! Went for dinner with 8 people. Slightly slow service and we seemed to have been forgotten before our food came. Out of the 8 meals all were very good bar one. The steak supremo wasn't fantastic. First time here. The food was average. I had the chicken mole and hubby had the pork carnitas. We also tried the guacamole and white queso which were very tasty. The young man who waited on us was very nice, quick and attentive. The prices were pretty high for the quality and taste. I would probably not come back here. read more

My wife and I moved to the area recently, and have been wanting to try the Colonial for a few months now, and finally got our chance yesterday evening. We stuck to pretty common fare, my wife had the two enchilada combo and I had the enchiladas mole, and both were very good. The only little concern I have is the price compared to other restaurants in the area. I didn't have an issue paying their prices, because we're used to paying sales tax on restaurant meals, but they are a bit higher than I would have expected. It certainly won't keep me from coming back and trying more of the menu. Oh, and the free dessert was a very nice touch. read more

I've eaten here many times and usually get an Expreso Burrito...but, I decided to try their Carne Azada Burrito this time and it was very disappointing. The burrito cost over $14 and is described as having skirt stake grilled and sliced...it was actually finely diced, then grilled until it resembled jerky. Unfortunately because of the way the meat was cut and then over cooked it was tasteless, and tough. It was also supposed to have rice and whole beans with green sauce and guacamole on top. Instead it had a smear of refried beans, rice, diced tomatoes and what tasted and looked like shredded cabbage. It did have green sauce and guac on top. I'm a big fan of carne azada burritos, but I would not recommend having them at this restaurant. read more

This restaurant was our go to for many years since they opened. As time has progressed their menu prices go up and portion sizes DOWN. The last straw for me was a recent take out order I picked up in August. I ordered guacamole on the side and was given a small plastic tub for almost 5 bucks. Then there is the mysteriously expensive green salsa. For quite a few years if you asked for the green salsa you got it, now you have to pay for the tiny tub of the green stuff. This is BS plain and simple. Over 7 years of buying food here we are now done. For the general level of tasty food they meet the lowered adjustment I made for the overall lack of really good Mexican food in Coos County. Living in Southern California for over 35 years gave me access to the best. Aside from that issue what I found at least acceptable to good food has now been ruined by greed. read more

My family and I love this place. The family that owns and runs this restaurant are very kind and friendly people and they always make our visit feel very welcomed. My family always has to make special requests on items (because we are picky people) and they are always accommodating and even if they get something made wrong they are quick to fix and replace it with a smile on their face. I admit I am very picky about Mexican food. My family roots go into Mexico and I was raised with Mexican food. I usually order there tamale and chili relleno and I love my tamale with chili verde on top. (See how I am picky) I think they have probably the best chili rellenos I have had. The pepper is cooked perfectly so that it isn't too hard and isn't too soft and it has the perfect amount of cheese that just oozes out yumminess. I recently moved to New Mexico and I have not found a place there yet that has chili rellenos this good... And they are home to green chillies. read more
