I reached out to Michelle for a tone touch up, originally. She was very accommodating with my schedule. When I arrived, she had me wear a robe to protect my clothes then placed another robe on top. We went over what I wanted/expectations management. She went over what she can do and what she couldn't based in my hair type (Asian straight hair) and previous hair coloring/balayage. I went with her first solution to do a partial highlight to blend in my previous balayage. She did suggest to do a re-tone if I didn't want to spend more time and money on my hair. She took her time and I never felt rushed. I am really pleased with how my hair turned out. I recommend reaching out to Michelle and book your appointment ahead of time! The struggle is real when you don't speak Korean. I've been a couple of times. Both times were a color and cut. Both experiences were ok. Price was also ok. Not quite cheap but not as expensive as other places. The last time I had gotten a reddish brown color, which I attempted to tell her that it was too red. She nodded her head but I still came out with the same red color. She also did not layer my hair as I had asked, but rather just a straight trim. She decided to bleach my entire head up to my roots, telling me that it'll look more natural once my roots grow out and I come back to get it touched up... Anyhow, after she botched it up, I contacted Michelle and asked her to help fix my hair. It took 5 hours, and she gave me exactly what I wanted as always. Michelle is it. I have been searching for a hair dresser to take on my crazy mane since my former hair dresser relocated because of the pandemic. After two years of mediocre substitutes, and a baby-related coloring hiatus, I finally found the real deal. Michelle booked me for a cut and color and I had to miss my original appointment because someone vandalized my car. She was incredibly kind and understanding, and when I contacted her to reschedule she accommodated me right away. During the appointment she spent time asking all the right questions and giving me an education on why my initial coloring ideas were not good for my hair. We mapped out a new plan together and I'm SO glad I trusted her more than capable hands with my head. I'm beyond pleased with the results and can't wait for my next cut!! read more

I'm so glad to find a salon that knows what they're doing with asian hair. I came in with very dark chemically straightened hair that was dyed a red brown color. This place was able to lift the color to a very natural blonde balayage and got the cut exactly the way I wanted. I'm really impressed with the color since there is no red at all. I paid $350 + tip for balayage and dye, which is comparable to other salons in the area and I would definitely return for upkeep. read more

I came here and got everything I didn't ask for and costed way more than what normally would've costed for what I ended up getting. I also ended up losing handfuls of hair for several months. I had initially thought it was because of them coloring my hair but realized later that it was after using their recommended olaplex shampoo and conditioner. I've never lost so much hair in my life and experienced burned hair until I came here. In addition, I left a tip (~$20? can't remember exact amount) for the shampoo lady which I ended up having to pay for it using my credit card and asked them twice to give it to the shampoo lady and both times, they just chuckled and never responded. So far, I am also aware of two additional people with not so great experiences as well. Overall, based on my experience, I don't recommend this place. :/ read more

This salon was clean, modern, and a very good-vibes type of environment. All the stylists were very welcoming, committed, and kind. My girl Michelle REALLY knew her stuff, she is an expert and really loves what she does which enhances the total experience. They are professional and great with asian hair. My hair went from long, virgin, blackish brown asian hair to a much lighter color (4/5 hours balayage) and the transitions are not blunt, the color is beautiful and the tones (which she helped me choose) go great with my skin which I was worried about going in. I also appreciated how I felt I could trust her expertise because I brought in a picture and of course my hair was different to the girls in the picture, so she did her best to mimic it but with her own touch to cater to my hair type. I love Color Fx. I've been going here for years! I always schedule with Michelle because she cuts my hair to perfection. She always tells me about how she cuts my hair in a certain way to help my face look less round (I have a natural wave to my hair and layers). Sometimes my layers will make it very heavy around my cheeks but she always makes suggestions on how to style it. They offer water or tea as you sit down so A+++ for that. Everyone is super friendly and I would definitely recommend others to come. I recently brought my boyfriend there since he's been getting his hair done elsewhere and I thought it'd be nice for him to try it out for the first time. Although I live in Columbia, I drove here because of the great reviews and I wanted an Asian stylist that knew and understood Asian hair. What is Asian hair? Stubborn AF when you want to achieve any other color besides brown or red. So I went there with a picture of the color I wanted (cool light gunmetal ashy color) and Michelle was straight up and honest with me about pricing and how we won't achieve that color on this visit. I had a relatively good first experience at Color FX. My appointment ended up running 30 minutes late, so I was initially a little annoyed. But the lady at the front desk was kind and apologetic, checking in with me frequently and offering me some tea as I waited. Excluding the wait, the bottom line is that Sonya cut my hair, she was nice, and I was really pleased with the results I got. $20 for a men's hair cut is a reasonable price as well. It looks like most of the clientele is Korean, and is probably the language many of the staff are most comfortable with, but I had no problem communicating in English with them. read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING! I have been a long time customer. But every time I go, I don't get what I the hair color I want. Every. Single. Time. Even after showing pictures of what I wanted. I understand that one will never get the exact same result as someone else. It's common sense. But its way different in this case - I would show a pic of cool toned ashy hair but I would end up getting bright blonde hair. They are also ridiculously overpriced. I STILL went back because they are exceptional hair stylists (they just never get the color right) and because of their great customer service. But it felt ridiculous paying so much for something I didn't want. Granted, they would fix my hair if I wasn't satisfied. The first time I had them redo it, it was free of charge. The next time, they charged me around $350. To correct THEIR mistake. Fast forward to June 2020 - I stupidly went back because I wanted a root touch up/tone. I decided not to go elsewhere because it only made sense to have my previous stylist touch up her work. Well, not to my surprise, I didn't get what I wanted. I ended up going back but my stylist wasn't there. The main stylist (who I'm also assuming runs the place) was there. I explained to her what was wrong and let me tell you - I have never seen ANY hair hair salon treat a customer that way. She was incredibly rude. Blaming me for not being able to explain to my stylist properly. She treated me like I was stupid. After a 20 minute long conversation of making me feel like absolute sh*t she decided to fix my hair, free of charge. Yes, she achieved what I wanted. Because of this, I decided not to give 1 star or mention their names. Bottom line - I'm never going back. I had about 5-ish inches chopped off and Michelle did an amazing job. It took about 5 hours and not really sure the kind of highlights I got but they basically foiled my hair first, then dyed it natural brown and then did my haircut and curled it in the end. I've been coming to ColorFx for a few years now. They're online scheduling makes it super convenient. The salon is korean owned, inside is always nice, and parking is easy. I recommend my guy friends to get haircuts here too, they consistently do a good job. However for me on the other-hand, have had really bad luck here...on multiple occasions. The most recent time, I came in for bangs and asked to keep the length for the rest of my hair. I left with very chunky short bangs ...and.. a MULLET!!
