The haircut AND color that I got were both truly hideous. She cut my hair all one length but left a GIANT strand in the middle back of my head, 4 inches longer than the rest!!! Also, I asked her for a dark cherry red and told her that I wanted something the color of red wine with a bit of violet in it; she made my her bright orange!! Their price is right, but their services are terrible! If the lady stylist cared about her clientele, I would return. But she was in SUCH a rush to get me out of her salon (though I was the only person in the salon!) that she did this chop-job of a haircut and awful color and shoved me out. Today was my first experience/time at ON:U Hair salon in Ellicott City. I am so delighted to say that I had a wonderful experience! I have had such a difficult time finding a hair stylist that was able to cut my hair the way I envisioned. My search is over!!! I wish I had found this place sooner! The woman who cut my hair, who I believe is the owner (?), was so sweet and efficient. I wish I asked for her name but she was wonderful! Her assistant was also very kind and I found them to be a great team! The owner asked what I wanted and for inspiration photos, which I had ready. She then asked several other questions based on what I said I wanted and the photos I showed her. I wanted face framing layers, a V-cut on the back of my hair, and some bang styling that was appropriate for my face shape. From sitting down, to walking out the door, my haircut took only 40-45 mins! AMAZING! I feel like I have a lot of hair and I wanted layers so I was impressed by how efficiently everything was done, including the washing of my hair & curling after! I also found the price to be very fair and reasonable for what my end-product was with my hair. I highly recommend ON:U if you are in the search for a women's haircut!!! Seriously such an amazing experience ‍ P.S. If you'd like to tip the assistant, please bring cash! I didn't know this beforehand and I felt bad when I left because I don't carry cash on me. I really liked how she shaped my hair for my haircut. I have trouble finding someone who knows how to shape my bangs/facial area shaping because I have a strong cowlick, wide face, & thick hair. I had such a great experience at ON:U hair! The owner and her assistant were so sweet and made sure I felt comfortable the whole time. The hair stylist listened to all my requests while also giving me her thoughts on what would look good for my hair. I went in to get my hair coloured. I had natural black hair and had never bleached or dyed it before. Look, I'm not a professional, but even I know that bleaching the roots first is not procedure, as the roots process faster than the rest of the hair. Despite this, they started at the roots first. My hair was super light at the roots and completely brown/orange at the bottom. As a result, my hair is a muddy colour at the ends and this was quite disappointing for me, as I will be having this hair for a while. One of the biggest red flags, in my opinion, is that nowhere through the appointment did the hairdresser ask if I wanted to see my hair or asked for my opinion, as it is MY hair. She didn't even ask if I wanted it styled. I wanted to let my hair dry naturally, as my hair is sensitive to heat, yet she proceeded to curl my hair just for her Instagram pictures. Ended up going home and being fairly disappointed, especially about my ends. Also, I feel as if the hair dye wasn't left to process for long enough. Probably won't be coming back here again. UPDATE: Now I'm finding spots where the colour has not been applied and I have bleached roots. Guess I've got to fix it myself :( read more

My last haircut was pre-pandemic in January 2020. My hair had gotten quite long and I knew the ends were not heathy and being that I was lucky to have gotten fully vaccinated on the early side, decided it was relatively safe to venture out to a salon. I read some great reviews for ON:U Hair. Erica and her assistant did not disappoint. Such a cute salon. The price was in the exact range as quoted on her website. I've been to ON:U Hair twice now for a cut and digital perm and I had a really great experience both times. The salon is very clean and the owner and her assistant are kind and professional and take the time to understand what you would like done. Before the perm, we discussed what I wanted in detail and she explained what was happening at each stage of the process. While the perm process is long, the salon is comfortable and the time passed quickly. I receive a lot of compliments on my hair, including people asking for the name of the salon since I think it can be a little difficult to find a place in the DMV that can do a digital perm well. I also found that the price was very reasonable given the amount of time and labor involved and end result. I will definitely be going back for my next perm and I can't recommend ON:U Hair enough! read more

I was amazed at the haircut I got from Erica. I came in telling her that I had no idea what I wanted to do, just wanted my hair short and my bangs out of my eyes. She gave me a really great shoulder-length cut that continues to look fabulous 6 weeks later. Just went back for a bang trim and again, things look great. She paid a LOT of attention to detail with the cut and spent a long time doing something with it after she did the main chopping. It really is the nicest it's looked in a while. I realize this review is filled with superlatives, but it's all true-I'm just so impressed. I visited the salon a couple of days ago to get a haircut. The salon gives me that 'LA' vibe to it. Spacious, chic, clean, and comfortable. The owner and her assistant took care of my greatly! Told her specifically what I wanted done to my hair and both her and assistant worked in unison to make the process fast and efficient. By the end of our session she asked if I liked my hair and how I felt about it, she was able to accommodate with me when I told her I wanted my bangs to be a bit shorter (appreciate the detailing she puts in). I was nervous to try out a new salon, but this experience exceeded my wildest expectations. I hadn't gotten my hair cut since December 2019 when I was last able to go home to CA, but I just couldn't wait any longer. Armed with a driver's license photo that happened on a good hair day and unhelpful descriptors of "bob, layered, side bang...it's really thick, no I don't want it way shorter in the back", she looked up photos on google while I was getting shampooed to confirm what I wanted and checked in throughout to make sure it was what I had in mind. Incredibly attentive to detail and worked really efficiently (appointment was 50 minutes). I'm so happy with the transformation, and it was only $40 (a similar transformation cut at a salon in Baltimore was quoted at $170). Tip well - she deserves it! cut 8 inches off my hair when i asked for a light 4 inch trim and gave me a sharp v shaped cut when i asked for a u shaped cut. Its so much shorter than what i asked for i doubt she listened to what i said. Its going to take a few years for my hair to restore itself. They also wanted to flat iron my hair without any heat protectant, if you come here only get a bang trim. read more

OMG - Finally found a stylist that actually styles your hair and just doesn't do a cookie-cutter cut. My hair has cowlicks, waves and curls. Erica worked with them so they are not as noticeable. She and her helper were very friendly and she offered advice on how we can address fixing the hack job I got from a previous hair cut on my next visit. I was expecting to pay more for my hair cut so was surprised when I paid that it was so reasonable. My hack cut was $50.00. Her fix-it cut was less. For once I love my hair cut. They are VERY COVID compliant - hand sanitizer, temperature checking, masks - everything. I felt very safe with getting my hair cut. I will definitely be going back. read more
