Last week I felt the need to do something creative but with low stakes, and decided to indulge in a me date of paint-it-yourself pottery. The Color Me Mine in Beverly Hills was open on a Monday, and so I trekked out here to indulge my inner child. My *very* first job was at a Color Me Mine in Valencia in 2000, and it delights me that the franchises still look very much like they did back in the day. This location is clean and mostly well-equipped (they didn't have squeeze bottles for writing), and it was easy and straightforward to get started. The staff were friendly and helpful. I chose a cereal bowl (believe me, though, I was very tempted by the more whimsical ceramic pieces, such as the cat jar and the, uh, "beakers" :P ), and while I didn't originally have a design in mind, I was inspired by the tile wall to paint an ocean theme. I spent a few very pleasant hours glazing my bowl. I added a small ceramic boat and asked the staff (writing it in the notes on my slip) to glue it in the middle of the bowl. It turned out SO cute. And I will absolutely toot my own horn with the excellent glaze work :) Hehe read more

Had a couple of hiccups with the team but i'm glad that the manager let me book 2 parties of 5 (after repeating myself that it was 2 separate parties 10x). One for us cousins and one for my little sisters friends. It was pretty quiet in this location. Luckily we found parking right in front of the store. Although the selection of things to paint on were limited, they let us pour our own paint which was a plus! Definitely a fun place to go to and unleash your creativity and bond! read more

Went there at least 7 times and had a good experience. This time was very frustrating. The shelves were empty. I brought 2 friends w/ kids with me to enjoy a moment together. Most of us haven't find what we were looking for. We took 3 mugs for the kid's so they can at least do something. They charged us $10 fee for being here + the products. When I asked for a discount because everyone was disappointed because there were no choice they refused. Even to charge $7 for the fee which is a promotion they often do. Finally a woman offer to the kids a little figurine to add on their mugs. And finally I was charged for that too. Even if it's $1 it is just more frustrating. I just feel that they took advantage of us. Very dissatisfied and unhappy. I don't want to go there anymore. read more

Make a reservation! It can't hurt, and it would have helped me on my Saturday date with my mentoree lil sis. We had to wait 40 min for a table to open up. It was pricey but she (12yr) loved it. Staff is friendly, helpful, and great with kids. While there are lots of kids/parents there, there are also plenty of couples, groups of friends having girltime, and a couple solo adult painters. For kids under 10yrs studio fee is $6. Older than 10yr is the adult fee of $10. Firing fee is $1/piece. For the 2 of us to each do a piece cost a total of $73.03 : Studio fee (x2): $20 Piece A: $20 Piece B: $25 Firing fee (x2): $2 Tax: $6.03 There is a parking garage across the street that is free for the first 2hrs. I went here this past weekend with my sister and my cousin. I didn't really want to go but I had to take one for the team. I'm glad I went, since it was pretty fun. There were a lot of bisques to choose from, but I didn't really know what to get. Some of the things they had, I felt would just be junk. They had a few useful things, like plates, bowls, single serving tea or coffee sets, pen holders, jewelry boxes, dog treat holders, dog dishes, piggy banks, and cups. I ended up choosing a cup ($14.00). Not sure how it came out yet. We went on Saturday, and were told we could pick it up on Tuesday. Tuesday comes along, and only two of the three items were ready for pick-up. I'm thinking in my head, "Wow, what a waste of time. I have to come back here to pick up the last piece? Couldn't they have called us to let us know that our items wouldn't be ready at the stated time?" 3 stars for lack of thinking. Anyway, parking was kind of hard. There's metered parking all along the street, but you have to kind of drive around. Also, there is a 2 hour max on the meters. read more

I don't have the time to tell you about why I went but just know I went to this business and the staff leaves a lot to be desired. Never really felt welcomed from the time we walked in. After paying so much money for my pieces I get there to pick them up and a design I asked for to be painted in black was not painted in black at all. I went back in and asked about this mistake and the response I received was "oh". "Oh"? She then pulls out the black ink thingy and I'm asking her is this something that could be done and I take my cup with me being it's a gift she said no it will have to stay to go in the oven again. I had no time to leave it so I said Nevermind it and she just stood looking blank... no sorry, no nothing. I didn't enjoy the atmosphere or the patrons really. I'll drive to studio city next time. Love the experience! I came here on a date with my girlfriend and it was super fun! We were able to talk and paint. It was pretty empty when we went so I felt safe. You have to wear masks the entire time. I love the ambience. You get your own workspace and unlimited supplies for your creation. There are also lots of pieces to choose from! We took about 4 hours making our pieces so if you plan to make something extravagant plan accordingly! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and super helpful and open to answering my many questions (as we were both beginners). I'm so excited to see how my piece comes out in a few days. read more

I had a great experience here. I called prior to arriving to work on a plate for my mom for her Mother's Day gift. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I must have spent 2 hours in there, although judging from how my plate turned out you would think I made it in 15 minutes. I was told that the earliest I can pick it up was Thursday night. I went in on a Monday. I was very impressed to learn that my item was ready for pick up by noon on Wednesday. This worked out perfectly because I was planning on leaving to see my family the next day. My plate looked a bit plain so I decided to put a bee on there. I was running out of time before I had to put more money into the parking meter. The employee offered to help me paint the lines on my bee. She's the best! It looks wonderful too. Parking is $1.00/per hour. It's not bad at all for being located right in front of the business. It's a very high traffic area so if you're in a rush, you should definitely arrive early. Great place. i drove 40 minutes to get here and they said they stop taking walk ins at 8:30, i had to find parking around the block which was fine but i had gotten inside at exactly 8:31 and the lady turned us away. i was aware from a time i went there before that you can start and then finish another day if you didn't have time that day. my boyfriend and i just wanted to go do a little fun activity for a bit apart of our date night and we wouldn't have minded coming back to finish. but we couldn't even have a little time to paint because we were 1 minute late. it's just ridiculous to me, i won't be returning to this location. read more

The three employees were all super attentive to the needs of the kids from the birthday party we attended here, and also were really good about helping make sure the kids didn't get too rowdy inside. I made a reservation to go there with my kids and her friends. I confirmed the reservation and went there. Just as I got in, the lady working at the front said I can't come because they're having a private party. I said that we made a reservation and she told me I probably made it at a different location. Once I showed her that I called this location she just very rudely responded that there's nothing she can do and that she can't help us. What a cute place to have a date or take your kids. We came here on a Saturday afternoon when parking is a pain in the butt because the place is surrounded by metered parking and only allows for payment up to one hour. This may be perfect if you aren't a perfectionist, but unfortunately I am. We were here for over 4 hours! This place doubled as an activity and as birth control for my date and I. We were surrounded by kids who were having a great time (by great I mean, LOUD). I like that you can converse over painting. It definitely beats sitting across from each other and talking over dinner because you can get really into the painting, especially if your date is boring. Luckily my date wasn't and we had a great time sharing the painting on both of our projects. Our projects came out somewhat streaky because we didn't paint in layers. The color of the paint also becomes darker with more layers. Keep this in mind when you choose what you will be painting. Think of having to go over each detail a few times to get better and darker results. If you're a perfectionist you will be here all day depending on what you pick! I just think the cost of this craft is rather pricey for what you receive. It was $85 to paint a motorcycle and a jewelry box and have it glazed. It takes a few days for them to process your projects and put them in a kiln for glazing. With this said, don't pick a place far from where you live! read more

I've been coming to this location for YEARS, and I don't thing any single project has come out better than this one, in large part because of the...HELP I got with the shading (we'll pretend this person didn't just tell me how to do it and then fix it when I did it wrong). I'm just sorry I didn't get her name! It was also really nice that I was there on a night they were open until midnight and I felt no pressure to leave even though I was 15 minutes late :P Anyway, I'm super stoked about this project and pleased with all the help I've gotten over the years. My family and I went in last week during the Beverly Blvd block party. We've walked and drove by this place a hundred times after living up the block but had not checked them out. So when we walked by and saw their $1 special sign we knew we had to haha I don't really get the point of their fee just to be there and paint. Especially because there are options of what to paint on or all pretty pricey. But their Saturday night special for the most part pretty good. Definitely good enough to have my family continue to come by. My son had done something like this not so long ago at a friend's birthday party. My girlfriend and I had never before so we were excited. The staff was super friendly. They were also very helpful and patient. Which was great because I myself had questions and the other customers really needed a lot of atending to. Their selection of items to paint is really good. Alot of different character choices and other fun stuff. I definitely recommend this place for families and even couples on dates. It's a lot of fun. This location does not have their own parking but she parking is not that bad and across the street is a free for 2-hour parking lot. Right next door is a coffee bean so sipping coffee while painting is not only fine but suggested. Other than that the block has tons of different food places so eating before or after stopping by here is an option. Also one reason why I say this is a great date place. read more

2hr free parking lot on South Beverly Drive - that's much appreciated. Pick your naked clay piece, choose your colors and then sit down and paint. Excellent concept; good fun for 30-45 minutes. Warm service by staff we are well-versed to deal with bratty kids but prepare to be absolutely SHOCKED when you get the final invoice: 2 kids, $72 total!!! What?! Yes, that's the price of happiness for kids in Beverly Hills! As much as I want to like this place, I was really disappointed with the bad and angry attitude of the young lady that was there today. I guess she was there all by herself and got really busy without any help. I thought this place is cute but way over priced and have some ridiculous extra fee of $10 if you are helping your child to paint. I wasn't charged for it (as a courtesy I guess...) but the girl got really upset with me when I doubled checked the price and gave me a good angry face. Not fun for a fun place. I also had a $120 voucher I purchased at the fund raising event at my son school (paid $120) and she wanted me to spend the ENTIRE voucher at the same time even if we did not reach the amount. So I kept the voucher for some other time and payed about $40 out of pocket for 1 item. Awkward experience. read more

Such an upsetting experience... So I came to Color Me Mine with my boyfriend and my little sister. The painting part was fun and all, the problem was when it came to us trying to pick up our pieces. My sister painted a little fairy and my boyfriend and I picked a life size dog piece to paint. When we went to pick up the pieces, they gave us our dog piece with serious damage. They told us it was a defective piece and that they could either give us a refund or give us the piece. Since we have no use for a dog with a broken tail and broken ears (which was obviously CMM's fault for it was in perfect condition when we had finished painting) we asked for a refund. They then gave us a refund for ONLY the piece which came out the $85. Funny thing is, they charged us for 2 sitting & painting fee's to finish that dog. So my question for color me mine is this. How can you mess up our piece, then not give us a full refund for the dog piece and 2 painting fee's? They say it's their policy but it just seems wrong. read more

Ya know, nothing says "relaxing day filling your life with artwork" more than an afternoon spent at Color Me Mine...well, maybe pulling my nails out one by one and then dipping my hands in rubbing alcohol! Kidding. I kid. Seriously though, I highly recommend that you head in to pain your kickass piece of pottery on a Friday evening...perhaps even with a few close friends and a bottle in wine in tow...great for a birthday or a shower, etc. I DON'T recommend attempting to recreate the Sistine Chapel on the inside of a $23.00 bowl on a weekday...say, around noon. I went in today...all relaxed...the sun was shining...with the intent of whipping up a Christmas masterpiece for my honey's sister. All was fabulous when I got there...the staff was delightful, the place was clean and organized, there was an abundance of colors, brushes, stencils, and sponges to choose from, and about 20 difference seats in which I could plot my little ass. So I got my bowl and my paint (numbers #64 and #2 if you MUST know!) and set myself up with not one, not two, but FOUR brushes in varying sizes. I found a nice, quiet, and relaxing bar table to chill at...and got to work meticulously painting. Low and behold, in comes about three different sets of Mommies along with multiple tots and nannies in tow. Oh LORDY. They were everywhere!! And mind you, my artwork required a VERY delicate hand but after awhile, I found myself half-assing it just to get it out of the way. Every time I'd set brush to ceramic, some "adorable" child would scramble by my table, knocking IT or my chair, and I'd have to quickly lift brush from bowl so as not to create something utterly horrible. I didn't even have to look up after while...the peripheral vision with scrambling kids everywhere really gets heightened! All in all...$36, a stiff back, and an hour and half later...my happy little bowl was finished! And to my surprise, three of the small people gathered around and went "oooh...that's really good!" So I felt validated. Relaxed? No. But validated. There's something about a finger-painting little girl or two paying YOU a compliment that will really knock the stress right out of your afternoon. :) So if you're in for hanging with gaggles of children and nursing your inner child...go during the day. If you're more into seeing what comes out of getting buzzed on wine with a paintbrush in your hand...check out Color Me Mine on a weekend night... read more

I am judging this Color Me Mine against other pottery painting places...and I've definitely experience a hell of a lot better. Rather than make this some useless rant, I'm tell you the 5 reasons I wouldn't go back here... 1) The service was poor. We came in about 75 minutes before closing. They spent about 5 minutes trying to talk us out of painting because they didn't think we had any time. It was ridiculous. 2) Once we ignored them and said we wanted to paint anyway, the poor service continued. They took very little effort showing us where things were and how to access the paints... 3) They treated another party completely differently than us. Maybe they seemed more fun or maybe they just really didn't care if we enjoyed it or not... either way, i wouldn't really recommend it....despite it's great location it's not worth it. read more

Me and my girlfriend went out for girls night tonight and it was a total fail. The staff was so rude, inattentive and bossy. We spent over $60 each person( $60-100 each girl) and we feel like we were totally ripped off and rushed. Both the ladies who worked there kept rolling their eyes and acting like they owed the place. Been here a couple of times but this last time was a huge didappointment. We came here for valentines day (a day before valentines day) with our 2 toddlers. There were 2 other tables occupied and i believe 3 people working. They were very late to get us started.. once we settled and asked for ideas or if they could draw a certain shape for us they were not willing to help and actually said "i cant do your work for you". I couldnt believe the attitude. I thought the point of them being there was t guide and help... or at least that has been my previous experiences with this location. Half way in, my toddler was getting bored so she was asking for colors to play with and because she was touching the colors and drawing on paper, she told us she has to charge us for another studio fee. Also, i had asked them for coloring and how to make it right and no matter what i had said she said it was good and offered no advice. The cups we colored def didnt come out how we had in mind, neither our experience. I think im definitely done with this place. We paid $70 for 2 cups and i could def say it was a waste. read more

Just a few years ago I spent weekends cruising around town with friends, hitting the clubs and checking out the latest indie film. Now, apparently I spend them at places like Color Me Mine. This is what happens when you have kids. Don't smirk, hipsters, it will happen to you, too. We decided it would be really cute to preserve kiddo's handprint on a piece of pottery. However, the thought of wrestling a shrieking, paint-covered toddler was completely terrifying to me. Fortunately, the staff at Color Me Mine was incredibly helpful. They explained the whole process, got us started, and even came over to paint the munchkin's hand and press it onto the pottery for us. No one got dirty at all, which is great because the last thing I need is more laundry to do. Our little painted trivet with handprint cost $30 and we're really happy with the result. Actually, our first attempt cracked in the kiln and we had to go in and re-do the trivet (gratis, of course). The staff was just as nice and helpful the second time around. Slightly off-topic, can we just talk about the hilarious magazine clipping Color Me Mine has in their window that shows the cast of Friends painting pottery together circa 1995? The article says something like, "In their free time, the "Friends" all like to hang out together and paint ceramics." Oh, sure. Let's just say there were no big TV stars in Color Me Mine with us. read more

Ok, we had an appointment for 2 o'clock, and when we got there, no table, and we were asked to wait...for almost an hour! The place was PACKED to the walls with people. There were kids sitting on the floor, people in between tables doing nothing but standing in the way. Selection was very limited, and the staff, well, they acted as if we made the mistake of making an appointment! This was my first experience with a CMM, and I'll just say it wasn't a very good one. We all left and just went to a different one, which was much calmer, and had a much larger selection of items with work with. read more
