This review is way overdue (about 14 years maybe) as we have been coming here since my first child was 2 years old. Now, my second child who just turned 6 wanted to celebrate her birthday here. We always have good experience every time we come. Although my daughter's birthday celebration was small and intimate, it turned out to be a success. I decided to take my daughter here.... As I was waiting for the paints, I started scrolling through the Yelp reviews and saw some jerk talking about all the annoying kids and how much of a nightmare it was there with younger kids. Then I saw that jerk was me from several years ago. I forgot I reviewed the location. To hell with younger Joey, older Joey knows better anyways. The thing I had going for me was the place was pretty dead. It was early evening on a Wednesday and there wasn't much going on here. The other thing that helped was the lady working was incredibly helpful and nice. She had no problem refilling all the paint my daughter was very quickly going through. After all was said done, I was pretty exhausted. Keeping a preschooler on task here can be a handful. I really can't say young Joey was wrong. But older Joey didn't care as much because my daughter loved it and the people working were awesome. I'll definitely bring her back. This location has fantastic Assistants! They are super attentive and make sure you are supplied with all utensils that you need. Paint, brushes, sponges, stencils, fresh water, paper towels. I'm all about channeling your creative spirit and Color Me Mine is a place where you can go as wild as you want. The Brea location is in the downtown Brea area, so you can make it a whole afternoon event with a meal and a sweet treat. On the weekends or on holidays, you might want to call ahead for reservations or come early since this little place can fill up pretty quick. When you arrive, you can peruse the selection around the store. Be VERY careful. There isn't much room to move around, especially if there are people sitting at the tables. Try not to trip, turn around too quickly or sneeze because you might bump or break something. If you break anything, you will be responsible for 50% of the item price. This is dangerous since these ceramic items are pretty pricey to start. Anyway... you can select from figurines, cups, plates, bowls, tiles in all shapes and sizes. Definitely check out the price before you commit to something. Don't forget that there is a studio fee ($10 for adults, $7 for children) so you can anticipate the final cost. There are party packages, so definitely get in touch with them to find out those details if you are interested. Once you have your item, take a seat. The helpful staff will explain the process to you. They will show you all the colors you have to choose from and discuss the painting process. Remember that three coats are recommended for the best and brightest display of color. Choose your colors and the staff will bring you all you need. Need any colors replenished? Raise your hand and they will refill your palette. There are brushes of all shapes and sizes to use for your project. Paint whatever or however you want. You can use a pencil to draw a special design then paint over it. The pencil marks will disappear in the baking process. I wish I would have noticed the puffy paint when I was there. Puffy paint can be used to add some details or neat letters on your project. When you are done, leave your art on the table and close out your bill. They will glaze and bake your item. They have a variety of ceramic dishes (bowls, cups, plates) but also miscellaneous ceramic items (giraffe, jewelry holder, flying pig). You pay for the ceramic + the studio fee (check online for daily discounts!!) It's a bit pricey but a fun environment. They provide a wide selection of paint, puffy paint, stencils, and paint brushes! I came an hour before closing & they let us come back to finish painting for free!! They were super friendly and it was ready to be picked up a week later. read more

My review is broken into 2 categories: experience and pricing. Experience: the shop is very cute and clean. There is a decent selection of items to choose from. They also have a wide array of paints. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The girls working were attentive and helpful. They did t bat an eye as my two year old flung paint all over the table. My 6 year old loved the whole process, especially picking her own paints with unlimited refills. The experience was great and my girls had a wonderful time. Pricing: for my 2 daughters and myself to paint small items it cost $106. Outrageous. Not only do they charge for the items you paint ( ours ranged from $26-$28 per piece) but the charge a studio fee as well. It was almost 30 bucks in fees for us to "use the studio". Our use was us sitting out on the patio and using several ounces of paint. The cost to value ratio is way off. We will not be coming back. read more

Our party of four enjoyed our time during our 2 hour paint session. Nice selection of items to paint. Upon picking up our items, the store clerk decided she needed to show me each item. She was terribly un-careful in unwrapping the items and re-wrapping the items; she was in such a hurry to be done, she dropped and shattered my new jewelry box. It was a very special memento to me since it was my daughter's birthday. My suggestion: have the clerks TAKE THEIR TIME in showing you the finished product. I was refunded the price of the item and the studio fee. The store manger also took the time to contact me but it does not undo what was broken. read more

Brea Color Me Mine absolutely knocked it out of the ball park. My husband and I took our nieces here as their Christmas gift, and Brea Color Me Mine has exceptional customer service. All staff are incredibly friendly, excited you are there, and they really enhance the experience with a can do attitude. We are so thankful for the wonderful staff at this location. It is always fun making art, but when staff have such an outgoing attitude and are constantly asking how they can be of service, it makes the experience 200x better and more worth it, financially. They also have a tip jar when you check out, and I recommend tipping the staff because they work very hard and are quite exceptional. We have come here twice in the calendar year and painted about 6 different art pieces. Both times, the service was consistent. (PS we live in Irvine & went to the Costa Mesa location, where the service was very poor. Do not go to that one.) read more

First timer here! It's located in the middle area of the birch promenade. It was pretty packed when we got there because it was during lunch time on a weekend so be prepared for that. They do take reservations which has an added fee so we banked on just walking in. Thankfully, there were tables available which you can opt for indoors or outdoors under the patio. You can pick out which pottery you want to paint on - there were bowls, plates, cups, vases, coin banks, etc. The prices are listed under each ceramic and vary depending on the size or detail of the pottery. It seemed like the average price was around $25. The employees had prepared the paintbrushes and necessary materials for us. You can choose up to 5 different paint colors off of this color chart they had. The employees were nice and constantly asked us if we needed any refills on paint and were super attentive which I really appreciated. Tbh it was a bit pricey - total came out to be around $38 for one person. However, considering that this was something that I've always wanted to do, I think it's a fair price for the experience + being able to take home something that you created. Note: You can't take home your creation right away but will probably have to wait about a week to pick up your glazed creation so be mindful that you do have to come back in a week. If this is something you've always wanted to do, I'd say go for it! It can be such a cute date idea or a relaxing fun activity to do with friends. read more

Color Me Mine is a place where you can paint ceramics. This location is located in Downtown Brea. There's lots of ceramic items to choose from. Once you're done painting, they will glaze and fire it up which will be ready within a week. We went on a Sunday which was rather crowded. When we got to the front, an employee greeted us and said there's two tables available. She also told us to feel free to choose whichever ceramic and to just place it on the table. We grabbed a table in the center and started walking around to see which ceramics we would like to paint. They have lots of different kinds of brushes as well as stencils. The shelves with the ceramics are kind of close to the tables. However, they're well placed so they're not going to fall out. If you happen to break the ceramic, there is a charge of 50% of the actual price. So be careful when walking around. I chose a giraffe money bank to paint. My sister chose a hippo money bank. On the table, there's a color plate with numbers on each color. You just choose your colors and put the numbers on the paint palette. I chose my five colors and the employee went to get the colors. I ran out of yellow paint within a few minutes. I asked one of the employees and she just gave me a bigger cup full of yellow paint which was nice. The main color took multiple coatings so it took a while. Any other color that I painted after that didn't take that long. There was a moment where I accidentally dipped one part into a paint color as I was holding it. The employee saved the day by telling me I could just use a wet sponge and the color will rub right off. Once we were done with painting the ceramics, we were instructed to just leave it on the table. However, leaving it on the table kind of concerned me. There were a group of Asian girls that kept on hovering around our table. Like they walked, stopped, and looked at my ceramic several times. It almost looked like a choreographed dance. They complimented my giraffe money bank and told me it was really cute. Yay for compliments but afterwards I requested the employee at the counter if she can just put it away. She replied, "Okay," smiled really big, and gave me one of those silent laughs. There are a few tables inside as well as outside. There is a smell of watercolor paint mixed with ceramics throughout the place. That went away within a few minutes once I started painting. The day that we went there were moms and daughters, families, a couple, and groups of girls. A week later, we went to go pick up the ceramics. The employee scrummaged to the back area, came back, and unraveled what seemed like heavy duty tissue paper slowly revealing our finished ceramics. The ceramics appeared to be nicely glazed with the colors being a lot more vibrant than before. They did a great job doing the finishing touches. The employees were all so very nice here. They're always glad to assist with anything and they always smiled. Overall, I had a great time painting and the finished products came out great. Will be back to paint more ceramics! read more

I wanted to write this review for a while already, but I wanted to get my final product before I did :D My friend had always wanted to make mugs, so I had told her we should come here after work one day, and so we did... We went on a Tuesdays!! Cause it's 2 for the price of 1 day, meaning two people can paint for the price of one!!! First thing is that you pick out a ceramic piece to paint. We wanted to do mugs. But there are also cute animals, disney characters, cookie jars, mugs, bowls, plates, and so on. The pieces vary and there are constantly new ones for you to pick from. The prices are all written in pencil on the bottom of the piece, so you can glance without feeling lame and asking the workers for every cute design you consider. After you have decided what you want, you should go grab some brushes, sponges, and a bowl of water. They also have stamps and stencils available in case you're artistically challenged like me :) I grabbed some small brushes for details and a large brush for the overall workings of our mug. And my friend and I also grabbed a stencil each to help us with our design. The staff came around to give us each a tray for our paints and they brought over the colors we wanted. The girls here were very sweet. My friend and I asked for a lot of refills and new colors. And each time they were happy to bring us what we asked for :) The service was great and the experience was really fun. My friend and I had a great time smiling and laughing about our creation. **My advice is that you blow dry when you complete each layer. This will make it easier for you to paint on the next layer, without smudges or smears. When we were done with our lovely mugs. We gave it to the staff and paid for our mugs. They gave us a receipt to pick it up in a week. I believe they glaze and then they fire. The following week, I picked up the mugs for my friend and I. I have a 3 year old son who has recently taken an interest in painting so I figured this would be a great place to come to. This was our 1st time here so I'm not sure how things were normally run but here's my experience during this pandemic. We parked in a parking structure nearby which was free. Before entering they require you wear a mask and they check your temperature. They also offer hand sanitizer. They do inforce the social distancing / 6 feet apart. Every other table is closed. I believe if you sit outside you do not need to wear a face mask but if you decide to sit inside, you are required to wear a mask. We decided to sit inside due to this heatwave but honestly I regret that because at least outside you're in the shade with a breeze and there is no AC inside so it was very hot. They charged us $20 for 2 adults and $7 for our son. He chose a monster truck ceramic which was a piggy bank. I believe the cost was $27 and I chose out a mug which was another $25. We were told to scan a code to see the tips, choices of color, and basically just the overall way this place works. We were attended by 2 girls. There was 2 large parties there already so one of the girls was running around trying to get all of their things and the other girl was mostly on her phone behind the register so a lot of the time we were just sitting there waiting to get more paint. At the end we were charged and given a receipt with the date and time to pick up our projects. Overall I thought it was a very nice experience. It is quite expensive and a bit awkward to just be sitting there until someone approaches you with more paint but it's definitely worth a try. My son enjoyed it very much and we look forward to picking up our items. read more

This is regarding an experience I had at this location back in May 2018. I had visited this location to make a birthday present for my mom. I have been a Color Me Mine regular all over California for over 20 years; so I'd say I am a bit experienced, knowledgeable and understanding of how this place works and how the painting and kiln process works. Anyways - painting day was blast, my friend and I had a great time creating a piece centered around my mother's favorite fruit. A week later we went in to go pick up our pieces and i was so excited to see how mine turned out. When the owner brought it out - I was shocked. This was NOT my creation. So I said so - this is not what I painted, where was mine? The owner stood there arguing with me that this was indeed my piece. I have included pictures of my creation before I left after painting - and what they attempted to pass off as mine. I got in the difficult corners and crevices, used light soft colors and gave it a beautiful sponge coat. (yes, I know the kiln process darkens the colors but I specifically used extra light colors for that exact reason and I know what a sponge coat looks like after firing. And that is NOT it at all) What I was given back was disgusting, sloppy, and absolutely disgraceful. The worst part about it all was that manager/owner had the absolute AUDACITY to argue with me and insist that I created such a disgusting piece of art. After I showed my proof that what I created was not what was in front of us. I demanded my money back and this person was not obliging. Finally after about a half hour, they gave me money back (nearly $100 mind you!!) It was like pulling teeth but I was not about to be swindled in such an embarrassing and deceitful way. Shame on this location for either destroying my piece and not owning up to it. Or flat out stealing it cuz it was truly so beautiful. Clearly, I have not been back to that location. And sadly, even nearly two years later, I am still LIVID about this experience and still sad that I never got to see how mine turned out or that my mother never got her social gift. read more

Pricing: I was there on a Tuesday night and was able to enjoy the Two for One deal. It was only $10 for both my GF and I. The original price is $10 per person. The $10 include the paint and equipment for the day. The art piece has to be purchased separately. Keep in mind, most of the art pieces are more than $20. Painting: This experience brought me back to the Good Ole Days in Elementary school. You literally sit down and just paint. The employees will fill up your pallets with the color of choice and they constantly go around to refill everything. Overall, such a fun experience. No drawing or art experience required. We had our daughter's birthday party here last week and WOW I was impressed! We were warmly received by the staff and immediately directed to the area we reserved. (I highly recommend reservations for any more then 2 people, as this place was packed.)  The have a few different party packages you can select from if you having a large group or party.   We opted for the Gold Party Package, which was really the best bang for our buck.  With as many girls as we had, the 2 hours of studio time was perfect amount of time for the girls to complete their projects, eat and celebrate with each other. The package included a commemorative plate in which our daughter put her painted handprint on and each of her friends did the same with fingerprints in a really creative pattern.  I'm a sentimental fool when it comes to my daughter, so I thought that was a nice touch immortalize her birthday celebration with all of her friends. I was really impressed with the huge variety of items to paint.  From plates, bowls, pots, banks, animals and even unicorns.  Which was really nice as all of her friends found something different to paint and it made it easy for everyone to create unique masterpieces they were all proud of.   Our personal staff member, Megan was fantastic. This young lady was on the go the whole time we were there.  From getting the girls paints, answering the barraged questions the girls had about colors and painting technics, to even helping us serving the food we had delivered! Thank you Megan! The venue is cozy, so it's best if you have large group of kids to have their parents drop them off or hangout at the Starbucks next door. The sunny day started off at Color Me Mine, then off we went to have lunch at Elbows Restaurant and then topped off the day at Merely Sweets. Nice way to celebrate Memorial Day. All located across the street from each other. The girls at Color Me Mine were friendly, attentive, and down to earth. My favorite was Cibley; she was patient, sweet and accommodating. The place was packed; however, the girls paid close attention to everyone as though they were each on the VIP list. Painted Masterpieces included: a shark, koi fish, pineapple spoon rest, and a set of drink coasters. Grand total $140. Came today with the family and was treated with the utmost respect, hospitality, and great customer service. We went about two hours before closing time and ran even a little over after we were supposed to stop painting. The staff did not rush us and they were completely polite to the little one with us. They complemented all the pieces and in particular made the little girl feel special. They also allowed us to finish even though we ran over. Most important was how polite and respectful I noticed that they were. In particular I'm speaking of the two staff members that I/ we dealt with. Renee and Jules. Those two are examples of what this location needs as staff or employees. They helped my little one with her painting, gave her helpful hints, and even brought us better brushes to use so we were able to paint our pieces to the best of our ability. We never ran out of paint and if we did they were right there to give us a refill or any other colors that we needed. Because of Renee and Jules, I am sure this location will see my business again. We are very excited to come back, receive our pieces that we completed and to one day soon come back to this specific location and paint some more pieces as well. I came here on a Saturday afternoon to de-stress. The pieces are pretty pricey. I spent $20 on a simple mug + $10 painting fee + tax and tip. Total, it averages about $40 per person if you're modest with the piece you pick. Something I didn't know was that you can come back another day and finish your piece for an additional $5. They failed to mention that to me when they knew that I wasn't finished close to closing. Instead, I rushed my piece when I would've gladly paid to come back and finish another day. On the bright side, the girls that work there are friendly and come check up on your needs often. Cibley was especially sweet and welcoming. Changing the water, washing brushes, and also refilling the paint. So they deserve the tip portion of the bill. What I especially love about this location is being able to paint outside. It's nice to get some fresh air accompanied by a nice activity. Starbucks is also right next door which is perfect to grab some water and a snack or nice cup of tea or something, since you'll probably spend two hours here. My ceramic pick was a big plate and my hubby decided to pick an egg out of everything they had to offer... ugh.. men. Anyway! PRICING: $10 paint charge each person. Myself and the hubby = $20 to paint. We chose one nice size plate and an egg = around $35. Plus tax, so everything came out to $60 I mean.. it's a little much for painting but it's enjoyable and you can waste a lot of time here. After you're done painting your masterpiece, they keep it for a week to fire it up in order to make it all nice and glossy and you just come back after a week to pick up your masterpiece!
