I hadn't been to color me mine in maybe 16 years, but I was excited to take a date here! I made sure to include on the reservation that we were COVID conscious and the employees were very accommodating, making sure we had a good sized bubble around us. They were also really friendly and helpful! The only downside is we didn't realize how expensive even some really small pieces were. I understand it's hard to keep websites updated with what's in stock and what the prices are, but some examples would have been handy so we weren't so shocked and disappointed when we had to choose some more economicly priced pieces. read more

Absolutely adorable experience for little ones! We had such a fun day picking out colors and pottery, and it was a wonderful way to spend quality time together. I spent just over $60, and it was worth every penny. The only downside is having to wait a week to pick up the finished piece, which can be tough to explain to a toddler. We had so much fun at Color Me Mine--5 star service from Danny and Natalie. We worked on our mugs for nearly the full two hours, and at the last minute, we sadly dropped and broke one our mugs. Natalie and Danny were so kind and checked the schedule. The table was available and they let us stay and quickly repaint a new mug without rushing us at all. They open at 12 so we waited in front of the store for 30 minutes for them to open. Then they turned us away because they stated that my 11 month old has to wear a mask... I was so shocked and upset. I tried explaining that it's dangerous for a baby that isn't even one yet to wear a mask. I didn't make a scene because my toddler really wanted to paint and had been looking forward to it all day. It got pretty crowded but it didn't feel cramped and you definitely have enough space PRICING: $10 fee for adults, $6 for kids - for using their paints and brushes, getting any instructions, and baking + the cost of whatever item you're getting. The ceramics tend to run a little high--my boyfriend and I both painted mugs which weren't that big, but costed $14 a pop. The ceramics are definitely the things that drive the price up. We visited this place with my 5 year old. He had fun picking his item to paint and picking his colors but 5 mins into him painting the lady who was helping is totally took over "helping" him and basically did all of it for him. The whole point was for my kid to be creative and enjoy the process! He was bored watching her paint for him so he started playing with brushes and water on the napkins. Then it seemed that they were mad at him for making a mess and rushed us to leave. At first they said you need to do 3 coats of paint but basically took our projects away after barely putting one layer. I feel like we paid $90 for the pottery and not the experience. I am not even motivated enough to go pick up our items. I honestly thought this would be a regular event for us but I don't think I will go back. Of all the locations, this one is my favorite. I'm here frequently either alone, with my kids or friends. It's so relaxing and peaceful. I wish they had more variety to choose from but the options are not bad. The guy who works here is a great artist. I usually pick his brain for ideas and techniques. It's like having an art teacher with you to teach you how to make the best of your piece. He's super kind and tends to the store really well. Even my kids love it when he is there. I wanted to do some thing spontaneous with my mom, for Mother's Day, and we were in the area of color me mine. I called to find out if they have coverups aprons for painting and I asked if they take walk-ins and the girl over the phone said yes so we immediately park the car and I walked in with my mom. We were then greeted by a girl, named Natalie, who said they were closing soon. She said that they don't take walk-ins and that we would need reservations. Then my mother said, that I had just called and was told over the phone that they close at six and that they DO take walk-ins. She said, that it was her we spoke with over the phone,, and said "you're fine with painting for 30 minutes?" In which my mother said, I thought you guys close at six, so we have time to paint and her response to us was "we've been here since 10 AM." Which I'm not sure what that has to do with us. At this point everyone was staring and she's being very unwelcoming, and it was very obvious she did not want us to sit. So, we decided to just walk out. On Mother's Day, I am very surprised of how we were treated there. She could've simply welcomed us in to paint until closing. She had a very poor attitude, and unwelcoming presence. We were looking for a cookie jar to use as a silent auction item for our kids 1st grade class. My wife went in to the Encino location on Wednesday to buy the cookie jar. Elly helped with painting tips and gave us the necessary tools. We brought it back in to the store on Thursday after the kids had a blast painting and decorating it with mini chocolate chip cookies. Since the event was set for Saturday Greg went above and beyond by driving the jar all the way to the Westlake Village store to bake. He drove it back just in time for us to pick it up and deliver it to the event. The customer service was fantastic and the products they sell are fun and playful. I came here with my son and boyfriend because we had a coupon from the Entertainment Book. It was a cool idea and we were really excited to get started. First, you pick out what you want to paint (ie: a mug, a vase, a spoon rest, a bowl, a dinosaur). Next you pick out what colors you want to paint your piece. And you paint. They have samples already created in case you need inspiration. I think we were there for about 2 hours. We painted a mug, a vase and yes, a dinosaur. They charge you for the clay pieces and I believe they charge you by the hour. You leave the pieces there and pick them up in a week, when the pieces are completed. It cost nearly $100 for the 3 pieces. It was really expensive. It could be a nice place for parties, if you have the money. When we arrived, there was a children's birthday party going on in the back room and when we were leaving, a group of women for a bachelorette party were arriving. They were running low on a lot of the paints, so we had to use back-up colors. And it was very crowded with pottery pieces. I was afraid that my son would knock something over. My son loved it, but I'm not sure if we'll go back. read more

I'm finally writing this review because I'm FINALLY finishing a piece I've been working on here at Color Me Mine since last SEPTEMBER. Long story short, I got a couple small plates and painted them, and then brought them to a TV Show Reunion to get them autographed, then went back to Color Me Mine numerous times to finish painting the plates. Basically, at this point, I feel like I'm visiting an old friend's house to paint when I go there. I stop next door for a soda at Chipotle, then stroll in and get my colors, ask for special smaller brushes, and for the scraping tool (for fixing mistakes), grab some paper towels and water and go for it. I wanted to write this review for two reasons, to maybe make people aware that you can do more at this shop than just slap some paint on a ceramic dinosaur with your kid.... that you really can get arty if you want to, and to tell you how great the staff is. First off, yes, you can buy a piece of ceramic, then take it home and keep coming back like I did to finish painting. You just have to pay the studio fee each time you're in there to paint, which is currently $10 to sit there all day if you want. I usually stayed 3 hours each time I painted, which works out to $3.33 per hour. I find that to be a pretty good bargain for entertainment in LA. Everyone has different philosophies. Some people would be horrified to think that I may have spent $70 overall to paint one small plate. I look at it from the point of view of how much did I enjoy spending those 15 hours painting, and how much do I value the final piece? To me it's worth it. Anyway, I just wanted others to know that you CAN do a more complicated project like this here and enjoy yourself. Remember how much you enjoyed art class as a kid? You can do that again, here. I got help every step of the way by their stellar employee, Danny. I hope his boss is reading this, and knows Danny deserves a raise. Danny is an artist in his own right. Have him show you the projects he is working on. My plate came out so much better with his help than it would've on its own. He listened to my idea, then told me how to do it using transfer paper instead of freehand- which worked much better, and he also gave me tips on how to have folks sign the plates so that I ended up with what I had envisioned I would. Note: Pencil burns off in the kiln, so I had to use a brush to wipe off the excess lead so it didn't do weird things AS it burned off and then I wrote over the signatures carefully with a brush with black paint myself. Danny (and the other folks working there) were always checking in with me, and admiring my progress, and asking how it was coming. They were also always helping others in the shop. Teaching techniques, and helping people with their "mistakes", and when they weren't doing that, they were always cleaning up the tables, and dusting the shelves, etc. I really enjoyed the time I spent here, and know where I will be coming the next time I can use a little art therapy. read more

I read the reviews before I went and was very concerned with all the negative comments. So I had to write because I did not experience anything negative nor did I witness anyone experiencing anything of the sort. The two staffers during my visit were friendly, polite and very helpful. I only remember one of their names - Daniel. The other was a young lady. It was my first time and I had a Living Social deal - which I wanted to point out because unlike some places that offer Groupon, Living Social, etc. deals and then make you feel second rate and almost bad for using it. This was NOT the case - the staff did not make me feel less of a customer because I was redeeming a deal. In fact, I wasn't the only Living Social customer during the time of my visit and I observed the staff treat everyone equally. The shop is small but that's not a negative for me. Its was cozy and intimate like if you were at a friend's house not a shop. I was satisfied with the selection but I can imagine that for those that come more often - probably would prefer more. There was plenty to chose from. Prices start at $4 for some small desk trinket to plates, frames, statues, etc. The highest item I saw was $28. Sure you could go out and buy a frame or trivet, etc. for a lot less but that's not why you come to Color Me Mine. You come for the opportunity to be creative, customize and stylize your work. It's an experience. And it was one that I enjoyed. Even with the Living Social Deal I still had to pay a few more dollars once I was done but I did not mind. It was worth it. The staff was very helpful. They would continually ask if I needed something or had any questions but not in a pestering way. They changed my water bowl for me. Showed me the different ways to paint - brushes, stamps, water effects. Even when they had a full room of birthday celebrators, I was not neglected nor forgotten. Very well worth the money. The only surprise for me was that painting takes a lot longer than you'd think. This is from my inexperience... but give yourself time to do this - like several hours. It is not to be rushed.
