I took my 12 year old fly fishing for his first time and saw a guy catching fish down the shore from us, I told my son to go ask him what he was using but he was too shy. So I went and asked him and told him it was my son's first time and he beamed up with excitement "oh I'm gonna hook him up!" He grabbed his tackle and walked over to my son, showed him a bunch of flys and started tying them on his line. Throughout the entire process he explained every little detail!! From the fly's, to the cast, to the water current, what to look for, and about 3-5 casts in my son had bites. He taught him how to set a hook and boom, FISH ON! My son was so pumped to catch his first fish on a fly rod. He soaked up all the info he was given and was able to catch fish on his own. Mason from RMA, I can't thank you enough for hooking up my son and getting us on fish. BTW Mason was also teaching his mom and she caught her first fish too. He took the time out of his day to help out a 12 year old and by doing so he created a new angler. Well done Mason and RMA, thank you! My family and I have often visited this area as it's really close to where we live. We've driven family and friends many times, walked around the lakes, and even had family photos taken! Besides all those wonderful things, there's also a cool visitor center. Lots of information, a Bison figure, bathrooms, and a nice Discovery Room for children! Behind the Visitor Center is the Ferret Exhibit! Don't forget to take a stroll outside past the garden to visit the little friends. You can also go inside!

I went in early March and there were so many birds. The immediate scenery is flat prairie but you can walk around a couple lakes and the mountains in the distance are cool. The visitor's center is well done and the staff were nice and friendly. Overall would highly recommend for anyone wanting a nice peaceful walk in nature or to see the bison!

My wife and I decided somewhat last minute to book a half day guided trip with the Trouts shop out…read moreof Frisco. We are new to fly fishing and had only had a couple hours of instruction prior to this trip. We did have most of our own gear, but I needed waders and boots. They have a very good rental fleet of waders (Simms G3) and boots, so you weren't wearing cheap gear, which was nice. We met up with our guide Ryan first thing in the morning at the shop and decided to fish the Blue just north of Silverthorne and in town. We had a blast with Ryan! We were looking for more of an educational trip, as well as hoping to get on some fish. Ryan was great in explaining how to read the river and present the fly in the best way as well as different knot methods which we didn't know before. He didn't get into super technical casting methods, it was more about getting the fly where you wanted it and then presenting it so hopefully the fish would take it. You could tell Ryan was super passionate about fishing and helping people out. We had a blast. The best part of the day was that my wife caught her first fish ever and now she is really "hooked". I can't thank Ryan and the other shop guys enough for a great day.

We definitely aren't used to big open bowls and had a hard time figuring out where 'trails' were so the upper part of the mountain was a struggle.
