The doctor that I saw had absolutely no bedside manner was not sympathetic whatsoever and did not explain what he diagnosed me with. Basically he told me that it was a rare disease and that there was nothing that I could do about it. And sent me home with absolutely no information. Everything that I've learned about this disease I've had to learn on my own. And then don't even get me started on the billing department. I had originally called and they told me that I was in network and that my co-pay was only $40. Then I get a bill for $480. My insurance he had even told me that they were in network so of course I was very frustrated at this point and went round and round with my insurance company then gave me a special number that I needed to give them so that they could rebuild it and they would pay the bill. I have been trying to contact someone for months to give them the special number so that they could rebuild this claim. I have left seven messages as of 3-22. They said that the manager would get back to me today. I'm not going to hold my breath. So if you really want good quality of care, do not go to this office. read more

In trying to take care of a billing issue, had to leave a message, next day they call me at 0740am while taking my son to school, told them to call back, they said no, I'd have to call back, leave a message and wait 2 days. They are so tone deaf, and clueless to the normal patterns of daily life of the common folk. Well, I read in the reviews that people are pissed about parking, the clerical staff friendliness, the wait times and so on. Come on people, these are your eyes and your vision. The doctors are superbly educated (look at their resumes), keep up with the latest treatments and know how to treat your particular eye disease or problem. Yes, the doctors are busy and don't have time to chat with you in a relaxed no-hurry manner; rather they need to see as many patients as possible which is a good thing given their expertise. And let's face it; the insurance companies don't pay them a whole lot considering the cost of their education and the cost of maintaining their offices and paying everyone a decent salary. The one item to care about is the quality of diagnosis and treatment. They are five star. read more

Waited 45 minutes to be seen, after roughly 30 other patients were seen waiting but a few minutes each. When seen I was advised I needed an eye exam, which I'd done in my annual ophthalmology exam a week earlier. I was at this appointment for an assessment of a possible eye blood vessel leakage not another eye chart exam. I felt this was a misuse of my medical insurance. I love the medical providers at Colorado Retina Associates. They get 5 stars. The administrative functions get 1 star. Response times to calls to the "Triage" department are slow. People do not respond/confirm receipt of act on requests when I send requests to the info@retinacolorado.com. The pre-surgery instruction package had errors and contradictions. Lastly, they use Phresisa for managing appointments. You are presented with a bunch of forms to approve, but one of them asks you to approve having your information shared for advertising and marketing purposes, something that I find disgusting. I wanted to let everyone know about the terrible service I received at their Central Park office in Denver last Friday 5/12/23. I had a 10:20 AM appointment and finally got to see the doctor at 12:00 noon. Making me wait 1 hour and 40 minutes is inexcusable and shows a complete lack of consideration for my time. Dr. Liu is fine as a doctor. What she is also good at is OVERCHARGING FOR HER SERVICES!! I went to her as a followup to a detached retina surgery performed elsewhere. She did the followup to the follow up which was fine and told me everything was GREAT, HEALED and only needed to come back again for a "quick check" to make sure I was responding to the discontinuation of the drops I had been on. Came back and was told to dilate both eyes (completely unnecessary), which I declined, another $95 photo taken of my eye (same as last time 4 weeks earlier) and she did a very quick check and my bill WAS $390 for a "quick followup." I attempted to reach them on two occasions to dispute the bill, and received no response from them. I had my insurance company do the same and they were told I was charged for the services rendered. These charges were just a few dollars less than my new patient, initial visit charges. CLEARLY, their billing and communication stinks. read more

This practice has its ups and downs. First, I have an excellent doctor here in Alan Kimura. I highly recommend him but I like doctors that are direct and to the point so your mileage may vary. However, for some reason, no matter which location you go to (I have been to Golden, Superior, Parker, and now Denver) the front office staff (both on the phone and in the office) can be hit or miss. Doctor availability can be frustrating when you have found a doctor you like so I make the trek up to this office from Parker just because I know my doctor seems to have more office hours at this location. At Parker he was there only 1-2 times per month. As I said earlier, I really like my Doc or I would not go through all of this. Now back to this location: It's in your typical medical office complex in Lowry. Parking for the facility can be tight. There is a covered drop off area with a small bench inside. Elevator access is available to the office or you can use the stairs to the left as you walk inside the door. The suite itself seemed rather small inside but had plenty of chairs and WiFi to use while waiting. The front desk staff was nice on my visit but as I have said, it has varied in the past. I was whisked right in after a 5 minute wait. The pre-visit person who dilates your eyes and asks you health questions was decent. She did a good job of dilation so I didn't have to wait an hour for it to take effect. Next was a visit with the photographer to have pictures of my eyes taken. He was one of the better ones who got the pictures right in the shortest amount of time. (Due to my eyelashes being long this can be a challenge with some photographers.) Finally, Dr. Kimura was excellent as always but you can tell that he may have a rough booked schedule here because the visit seemed more rushed than at his other locations. I still received excellent service in monitoring my condition but the visit was about 5 minutes. Good in that he didn't find something but at his other locations he did take the time to ask me how I was doing, etc. as he did the exam while this was just an exam and then thank you and off to the next patient. I blame that on the schedule at this location. Luckily I met him at other locations so I can compare or I might be put off a bit. Overall the practice is fine. This location is Ok. The office staff on the phone and in person can be hit or miss. read more

From the first phone call to my first visit I cannot express the great care I was given. Each member of the team was simply professional, friendly and provided outstanding care. I arrived here because of a very poor experience on the Western Slope of Colorado. I can only say...take the extra time to travel to Frisco to experience incredible professional attention. Dr. Shukla is great, probably one of the very best in Denver. Unfortunately, Colorado Retina Associates, as an organization, not so much. Dr. Shukla did emergency laser surgery on my eye for a torn retina. It was a difficult surgery, but successful. He did a follow up exam a month later, and then he said he wanted to see me again in 6 months for a final follow up visit, however he was changing where he works to a new organization. He told me the follow up visit would be no charge. When I contacted the new organization, Colorado Retina Associates, they said that they would be charging me for the follow up visit and that it could be as high as $1,600 for the visit (double what my laser surgery had cost). Obviously, these guys are crooks! I decided to just go have a check up with my regular eye doctor, who has very advanced equipment and technology, as I cannot afford such exorbitant rates at Colorado Retina Associates. read more

Dr. Murtaza Adam is a great doctor. After years of being told by my prior specialists that my aphiac glaucoma would take my vision and I would be totally blind. That if I tried to have an implant put in my eye I would have and 85% chance of either retinal detachment or macular degeneration. Dr. Adam calmed my fears and assured me that surgery had greatly advance since those diagnosis. He explained everything to myself and my son in layman's terms and does not rush through the appointment. He is very caring and professional doctor. The miracle is I am able to have the implant and see without those dangerous diagnosis. I would recommend Dr. Adam to anyone with retina needs. His staff is educated and efficient. They prepare the test the doctor needs for his diagnosis, Parking is plentiful. read more

Love Colorado Retina Associates. Dr. Mimi Liu (for wife and I) is the best. I say this because she has that rare but highly desired and elusive combination of skill, experience, education, attitude, "bedside manner," positivity, friendliness, and more! I've been involved from the patient side with Dr. Liu for many, many years. Every single interaction has been exceptional. Not good. Not great. Exceptional. This includes everything from surgeries to in-office treatments to regular office visits. I will restate: she's the best. The whole experience with this entire organization has been stellar. We've had surgeries this year and had an in-office visit yesterday and treatment and have been to not just one but to many of their locations. Each location, all people, every time we've been treated wonderfully by Dr. Liu and the entire staff. And the work they do is 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 across the board by all people in all locations consistently. We love Dr. Mimi Liu. She is definitely the best. I cannot say enough about her. She's saved my wife's eyesight multiple times, not just one time. From my perspective it's an amazing feeling watching someone like her at work. I'm literally in awe of her knowledge and treatments. She's not just a doctor. She changes lives for the better and has made a positive difference in our lives that words cannot truly express and that money cannot compensate her adequately for. She has a place in our heart. And we've been with her for years and have driven to appointments throughout these years while we have been living 3 hours away from her office as we lived in the mountains. Ugh. It doesn't matter if I take the first appointment of the day or the last. I have never been seen at the time I was scheduled. A minimum of 20 minutes waiting in the waiting room. A minimum of 10 minutes waiting between the nurse and the doctor. I have never spent less than an hour for any appointment in 4 years of coming here. For 10 minutes of being seen by a doctor.....not worth it. I have also seen 3 different doctors here and visited all locations, its never any different. read more

Rude office staff. Incompetent assistant. Control freak doctor that did so much to my eye for the steroid injection I felt like I was being prepped for surgery! And here's the thing: Betadine can be diluted. Pouring that acidic substance directly onto the eye is excruciating, even with "numbing" drops.. It burns and burns ad BURNS. The assistant just stood there for the 2nd eye, after I made it known how bad the first eye hurt. Enjoying yourself? And undiluted betadine wasn't enough for the female doc, whose name escapes me. With my eyes pried open, that betadine seeps into the soft tissues of the eyelid and eye corner. SO painful. THEN she has to put a dot of additional "anti-bug" stuff before inserting the needle. And talso old me to stop talking because of mouth bugs. I have never had this kind of treatment. It was a torturous ordeal and I felt not heard and not believed. There is something wrong there. read more

I went to the Harvard office and had to have a procedure on an outpatient basis. Very little information was given, any issues related to the surgery were consistently referred to my PCP or Urgent Care. Don't expect this practice to care for you and your procedure. The doctor was great when I saw him, it's the office staff... Additionally, the follow up appointment was scheduled and I sat for an hour and a half waiting after being told to turn off my phone by the assistant because I was muting an incoming call (not loud) and checking the time. Never received proper follow up care since my time was not considered as valuable as this office's and I had to leave for another appointment. Tried calling back to reschedule but not helpful in anyway. It's just my eyesight. read more

My "handling" at this "medical practice" is possibly the worst and rudest I have endured. When I initially scheduled an appointment with a Dr. Zillis, they neglected to inform me he was retiring in a couple of months, which necessitated my needing to schedule the follow up appointment a few months later with someone else. Seeking to first interview that next MD, I then arranged a short "meet and greet" with a Dr. Adam, but was turned off by his rude assistant and the MD himself, who glibly pushed "surgery" ($$$) when 1. the second retina scan hadn't changed since Zillis' first scan and Zillis had said surgery was not necessary and 2. There are more conservative approaches, including doing nothing: self-correction is a possibility (although Adam had not mentioned that). I phoned their practice manager, a Jackie Bayne, and provided her my feedback on Adam, who'd engendered no confidence, and his rude assistant. I also emailed her my research on the conservative treatment, of which she, and more notably, Dr. Adam were entirely unaware. I told her Adam had actually contradicted Zillis' recommendation. Bayne thanked me for my feedback. A couple of months later Bayne set up a second "meet and greet" for me with a Dr. Hovland. After sitting and waiting in his office for more than a half hour, Hovland waltzed in the room with not one but two assistants (which seemed peculiar since I was there simply to interview him). He offered no apology for the long wait, had no response when I said I was upset because I may be late for another appointment since he'd been late for ours, and he never used my name. Worse, he launched into a tedious monologue reciting basically the same one-note party line as the previous MD that I'd found so objectionable. I could barely get a word in edgewise with this guy. "Establishing rapport" seemed outside his realm. He did not ask me a single question about me. He also contradicted himself, first pushing "surgery" ($$$) then recanting when he realized the retina scans were unchanged. I was astounded he did not seem curious why I had arranged the "meet and greet". I emailed the practice manager Bayne with a question about an eye drop treatment Hovland glossed over. She said she'd obtain the information and get back to me. She never did. I then did online research on Hovland to discover to my considerable dismay he'd had "two malpractice claims". I immediately emailed the practice manager Bayne with my obvious concern about the malpractice claims. I also left her a phone message of concern that was unreturned. What was the practice manager's response to my concern about the two malpractice claims? Unbelievably, Bayne sent me an inexplicable and highly offensive email stating that she was terminating my patient relationship and that I needed to go elsewhere; Which is precisely what I recommend to anyone considering engaging this unethical "medical practice." read more

The quality of care was good, but the wait times are atrocious. One of the techs told me they double book all appointments, so hopefully you don't mind sitting around for a while. I also recommend avoiding their clinical trials. They aren't that coordinated, and may drag you through some unnecessary steps along the way. But I am not comfortable with the mass-production business model in place at CRA. I need something a bit slower and more relaxed.
