Went here for brunch before going to the como and had to wait a little bit but it was well worth it. Once we were seated we were immediately helped and served coffee in there very appealing mugs (which I think can be purchased for 6$). The menu is very impressive and I was having a tough time deciding what I wanted but then the waitress told us about the specials and I knew I had to go with the Rueben eggs Benedict. Ventured back to Colossal Cafe for my hubby's birthday breakfast and service was awesome! We were seated right away at the counter, but would have had to wait if we wanted a table. I ordered my regular "Colossal breakfast" favorite with turkey sausage (incredible!) and a biscuit. My hubby had the Korean beef and normally hates runny egg, but mowwed this down. You can get with scrambled eggs, but be probably forgot to ask. Service was prompt and she put a candle in his pineapple for him to blow out. Super sweet! If you're looking for a solid, stand-up breakfast, look no further than Colassal. They have something for everyone to enjoy, from standard "egg, meat, potatoes" and pancakes, to beef bulgolgi bowls. Always check out the board or ask your server about the specials. My fave is the standard Colassal breakfast. One of my more favorite things here is that they serve turkey sausage. Not being a pork eater, this is a nice change of pace; I actually get to eat my meat (no jokes, please )! They also have a small coffee bar if hot black coffee isn't your jam. It was a bustling place on a Sunday morning, I highly recommend using the Yelp wait list feature to get a table quicker! Parking was easy in a dedicated lot across the street. I was riding solo, so even though I used Yelp wait list, I was able to grab a counter seat right when I got there. The service was fast and very friendly! Love the sausage egg provolone breakfast sandwich on sourdough. The homemade biscuits are massive and fluffy, so you could sub that for the bread too. I like to wash that all down with a blood orange mimosa. Heavenly brunch! Colossal Cafe is one of the best brunch spots out there. I go here almost 1x a week with my mom (and unfortunately no pictures) but every single time the food is amazing. I usually just get a salad (and customize the crap out of it) and they follow the directions every single time! The ingredients are always so fresh and crisp, I love it. My mom usually gets an omelet and the cinnamon roll (which by the way, they are known for, it is huge, ooey, gooey, cinnamony and just PERFECTION). I also love all of their coffee drinks, they also have specials every week which are definitely worth checking out, every single one I have ordered (watermelon salad, mexican pulled chicken salad, a mexican style pork soup) have all been fantastic. It gets very busy on the weekends so make sure that you are aware of that. The service is always great, the wait staff is nice and accommodating and move as quickly as they can. I'll start by saying the service was great. Service with a smile and seated immediately. The orange juice was fresh squeezed and delicious. The best thing I had there. The food is the reason for my one star rating. For starters everything lacked flavor. As if no seasoning was used in that kitchen. The biscuits looked good but they had literally no flavor and were dry. Not even the fresh preserves could save them. The sausage patty was dry and unseasoned. The worst of all was the pancake. Never have I tasted a pancake like this before. It had a gummy, gluelike texture that stuck to your teeth. I had to chew a small piece more than 20 times and chase it with water before I could get it down. I'm not sure what was in that batter but it was all kinds of wrong. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and it's honestly hard to screw up. You know it's bad if you leave your entire breakfast on the table. Not sure how this place got 4 stars. First time here. Service was great; food was a little lacking. I was very excited to see they had homemade biscuits but was really disappointed after trying them. No flavor, very dense - not light and fluffy at all, and very tough. The omelette tasted good but it barely had anything in it, and the hash browns were very, very greasy. Breakfast sandwich was good but not anything special and didn't come with a side. The homemade jam wasn't my jam...a little too tart and no chunks of fruit as a jam should have. Went here for my sister's birthday because she has been raving about their apple, walnut, and brie pancakes. We originally wanted to go to the Grand Ave location but they were packed and had a minimum 45 minute wait. Como Ave had no wait and said they could take a reservation in-person. I drove over first, as I was the closest, and when I got there was told they needed the entire party present to create a table reservation. A bit annoying, so I then spent another 20ish minutes waiting for everyone to show up and saw the cafe getting busier and busier. Once we were finally all there, they took everyone's orders at the counter and we again waited for a table. Fortunately there was another group leaving at the time we were placing our orders so it wasn't too long before they had cleaned off the tables and we got our seats. Since she had been raving about them, I ordered the apple, walnut, and brie pancakes. Honestly, I was underwhelmed and I felt they were way overpowered by the cinnamon (?) in the syrup. Whatever spice was in there was drying out my mouth and coating the inside so I couldn't taste anything else. Most everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals, though. Not sure that I'd be back because it's a very popular place (read: busy and difficult to get into) and I wasn't crazy about the food. I've been wanting to review this place for a while because I was so impressed by their "beverage philosophy." I sit down, I get a glass of water. I order a Coke, and I get a can of Coke WITH a glass of ice. Yeah baby. That's what I call "Minnesota Style." I don't live in California. I don't expect to treat water like it's liquid gold. Ten thousand lakes. 'Nuff said. The food is "good" but trendy in the way that the awful Highland Grill is trendy. It's like they care more about what it's called than how it tastes. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jalapeno poppers listed as "Things are Popping Up All Jalapeno!" or something. The soup I had today was salty as The Great Salt Lake, but the biscuit was a little lacking in...something. Salt? I dunno. I don't taste quite right. It's not wrong... but it ain't right. I got the biscuit because they were "out" of the "savory croissant" (whatever that is) but the staff is attentive and the food was hot and the place has a kind of "class" that you just can't buy. Somebody here cares. So why not five stars? Well, it's spendy, as we boomers say. It's also lacking in some weird ways. Hot sauce and sweetener are on the table. Water is free. But cream or butter have to be requested. It's kinda cute and annoying at the same time. Are they trying to cut costs or my waistline? Either way, for the money, butter and cream should show up on the table with the biscuits and the coffee. This is probably an "old man opinion" and butter and cream are no longer universally desired, but again, this isn't California. Dairy. We immortalize our Princess in greasy milk fat. We had a party of 7 and decided to stop by for breakfast. The seating hostess and waitress were rude. They looked at us and made faces that we either had a big party or I dont know why? We went to check this place out via reading StarTribune's 10 great cinnamon and caramel rolls from Twin Cities area bakeries article. We had to wait a bit even though we put our names on the rsvp list before arriving. Once arrived, it took about 10-15 min before we got seated. Service was friendly and quick. Everything here is apparently made from scratch. We ordered ham, hash browns, and Swiss omelette, sage pork & bison biscuits and gravy, and of course the huge cinnamon roll. The biscuit was homemade, huge, and delicious. The bison gravy was so good that it became my new favorite biscuits and gravy dish. I had a few bites of the omelette and it was also really good. But the highlight was their habanero pineapple hot sauce. A good balance of spicy habanero and sweetness from the pineapple. The strawberry jam was also good. Bonus- both sauces are available for sale. Now, the cinnamon roll is massive. The dough was made from leftover yeast-based pancake batter. Perfect amount of icing and sweetness. Leftovers cinnamon rolls are steeped in milk for 24 hours and then used in their off-menu cinnamon roll latte. The latte is only available at the Grand Ave location. But if you are only going to the Grand Ave location for this, I wouldn't go out of my way as the latte tasted just like a regular latte. Will be back for sure! read more

My husband and I are on a mission to try all the local breakfast places and we were excited to try out Colossal Cafe. Super cute place! The interior is really nice and comfy. They have a cafe inside so you can get an assortment of beverages to drink in or take out. Same with some bakery items. This place was packed on a Sunday morning so we were happy to get a table when we did. The service was very good and friendly. I ordered the pancakes with bacon. The bacon was on the point. The pancakes were ok. Pretty mushy but maybe I was missing something about how they are made? The texture just wasn't my favorite so I would try something else next time. My husbands omelet looked great and he really enjoyed it. A nice Sunday morning overall though! read more
