A few weeks ago, a group of about 10 to 15 people, including Arab/Muslim families and friends, gathered at Patrick in Bachman to celebrate our Muslim (feast) Eid, something we've done at the cafe twice a year for nearly a decade. It's always been a place where we feel comfortable gathering, sharing food, and honoring tradition. I arrived around 10:00 a.m. to help arrange tables as people came and went during the whole experience. Everything was going well until, suddenly, a staff member approached our table without greeting or explanation and told us, "You have to leave now." Naturally, I asked why, and he replied, "We need your tables... , " Is there a time limit? I asked, Yes, when we are busy," then walked away. As you can imagine, the group was quite shocked. The interaction felt abrupt and out of character with the hospitality we've come to associate with the restaurant. I did my best to calm everyone and encourage them to continue enjoying their time, but the moment left a lasting impression. I want to be clear--this is not about assigning blame or raising concerns about bias. Our group was diverse, and I believe the issue was more about how the situation was handled than anything else. As my wife pointed out, a simple, polite explanation would likely have led to a very different outcome--and cooperation on our part. I contacted the Owner, Patrick Bernet, over 3 weeks now, but he never acknowledged my email or my calls... I don't want to raise the race card, but his attitude is now on record...! If you're missing the outdoors in the winter this is the place to go. It's tucked inside Bachman's indoor garden store with glass ceilings and plants all around. The eating area is set up like an outdoor cafe in Paris. It's counter service but they bring the food to you. Great selection of yummy food and delicious deserts. Basic coffee options only. No fancy latte's or cold brew options. If they had better coffee options I'd give them 5 stars. It's still totally worth the visit though. Nothing else like it in the Twin Cities that I know of. Busy patisserie and cafe. This location is on a strip with plenty of parking out front. It's a quick order service style; you get a number and then pick your own table. Weekend mornings are prime time for brunch, the table busing does get behind. So keep in mind you may need to grab a table and wave some help down to clean up. I've stopped by here before to pick up some goodies to take home for dessert, they were quite tasty. So figured to try the cafe side. Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict A classic combo. The Hollandaise is rich but not overly decadent. Salmon is nice, just wish there was more of it since it's my favorite. The hash browns are nice and crisp. Love the presentation for the hash browns. This place was hard to find! We were looking for a place with desserts that was open past 3pm on a Saturday and this was it! We didn't realize it was inside Byerly's! Even when we got in the lot... there wasn't great signage to show where we go to get to Patrick's. There was an ok variety still left when we got there close to 3. We also saw there is a cute inside (outside feel) patio connected. They serve sandwiches as well as treats. We got the Apple Chibouste (Custard Tart), the passion cake (both to go) and a chocolate macaron (for now). The chocolate macaron was chewy and tasty. The center had a perfect fudgy brownie like center. The size was perfect to share as this was very rich in flavor. We scarfed the apple art and it was delicious! The custard was a fun surprise. We are saving the Passion Tart for tonight. This is a coconut sponge cake with passionfruit. We are excited! Overall, now we know where to go to get here! read more

What a great surprise to find Patrick's in Bachman's! I love this place. I ordered quiche and a Brie Grilled cheese to go! The Brie grilled cheese is sublime. Each bite is warm and sweet and delicious. I could eat this every day. The goat cheese and leeks quiche is delightful for a morning wake up brunch. Yikes! Rude staff. From the cashier to the busboys. Even the guy Dan Turpening playing the accordion had bad manners. I'm sad I wasted my Sunday coming here. Leaving here right now and still in disbelief. It was a miserable vibe all around. I came here to enjoy local music and get some fresh food. Instead I received ridiculous attitudes. I am disgusted and sad. I didn't even get my $5 off $25 coupon, because I didn't feel like walking to another possibly rude area of the store. One cashier who was actually nice said, Bachmans isn't diverse so you should expect them to treat you bad . Yayyyy prejudice and lack of ethics and diversity!!! The French Onion Soup was so bad. Came to this bakery as I wanted some sweets, first of all, no prices or ingredients listed on any of the desserts, when you asked the staff very nicely about what's in those desserts, you would get a very mean and rude answer! I bought a few desserts there since we drove like two hours there and the services was just horrible!!!! Haven't tried the dessert yet but I would not come again with the cashier or whoever this server was, who would give you very mean look and not helpful on answering what ingredients in those desserts, especially thinking about those who May allergic to peanut or something, I have never been this mad and still bought some desserts at this place! Totally not recommended and honestly I still remember how this cashier person looked like! I am MAD and Disappointed all the way!!!! So the tiramisu (white triangle) nothing tastes like tiramisu at all... no coffee favor but white chocolate only ... Prisline ? Whatever they called it.. no hazelnut favor as the cashier/server said, but chocolate mousse ... super disappointing ... I would really want a refund ... on top of that, the cashier/server really need to work on customer services... have been trying lots of different desserts places, I think this is the one that I would give -1 star out of 5 stars Again !!! I love Patrick's bakery and cafe, I tried their brunch before and it was amazing , the hashbrowns were the best part! I would love to try more brunch options in the future. The most delightful part of this place is the bakery, I have tried quite a few desserts and love the pistachio chocolate mouse cake it is so rich and creamy with a macaroon on top (pictured), I also love their raspberry chocolate brownie so rich and good. Their mavroons and fruit tarte is so good as well. I can't wait to try more ! read more

Went to Patrick's bakery on July 4th expecting the service and breakfast would be as good as dinner. The cashier/s were mediocre at best. Not very friendly and or knowledgeable about some of the breakfast options. Just plain service in the introduction. The breakfast was 1 out 5 The food was cool and not hot. We asked for the hasbrown/s to be crispy and cold/mushy. The sausage links were terrible. The bacon was old and dry. We're the eggs 2 or 3 in the omelet ? It said 3 but looked more like 2. The service was just blah. Finally a gentleman came out and asked us for refills. It was free - The Best option was the free refills Will never go back to Patrick's for breakfast. We will try dinner again because they have excellent fries and burgers. Hopefully the dinner will be better read more

I am updating my previous very negative review. I must have caught Patrick's on an off day because I have been back twice now and everything has been much better. Once I had a regular butter croissant and the other time a cherry soliel and regular coffee both times. Both pasteries were fine. I lived in France once and Patrick's bakery products are not in my opinion as good as at a typical French patisserie but they are okay for here. The ambiance is nice and the staff are friendly. A little difficult to find unless you're familiar with the area and/or have been here before. It's located INSIDE Bachmanns. I was in the area and was looking for a bakery for a dessert and this was the closest so I decided t check it out. There was quite the assortment of visually appealing treats, pastries, and other items. Very small space, but again, large selection and variety. Many of the items were not labeled and did not have a description of what it was so I had to ask what certain things were. The owner (I'm assuming based on attire) did not seem too thrilled to explain those things to me; he seemed a bit cranky and annoyed by my questions. One of the items labeled as a cake was very misleading as it was not a cake at all, but a mousse...just shaped like a cake (umm...okay). I ended up leaving with 2 cookies, 1 peanut butter and 1 chocolate chip. reasonably sized but nothing special. The peanut butter barely had the peanut butter taste which was a bit disappointing. I also had 2 other bars that were just 'okay' as well. Not sure that i will return, but it might be nice to try for someone who hasn't experienced it. read more

This is such a nice shop, situated within Bachman's. It's like a little trip to France, with such wonderful savory and sweet pastries. And of course the coffee and lattes are perfect. This is my first time visiting this Patrick's, since we lost the one in Maple Grove during the pandemic lock-down. Very disappointed seeking gluten free and vegan items. A tasty macaroon was gluten free. If you want vegan go elsewhere. Why not offer a salad without meat and cheese or a vegetable broth soup? Those in our group who ordered quiche which came with a side salad seemed to enjoy it. read more

This is a lovelier, smaller version of the Patrick's bakery and cafe in Southdale Square. The coffee and pastries are equally fabulous, and the ambience is so much better! They have a nice set up of bistro tables under umbrellas in the sunny greenhouse/garden center of Bachman's. I imagine it can get rather warm in there at the height of summer, though. They offer a limited breakfast/brunch menu, and no dinner. The same great pastries and coffee, but no build your own omlette, or hot foods like eggs benedict: just sandwiches, panini and cold salads. All are excellent, though. They get really busy on Sunday mornings, so be prepared to wait in line. Kind of a long line. A slow-moving long line. On this Sunday, they said they were short a person behind the counter. Maybe the wait's not always that bad, but this definitely made the difference between a 3-star and a 4-star rating. read more

the waitress Kristina. She was present, attentive. She was the highlight of the night! Let's start with my beef "Ribs". I am a chef, owned a steak house for years, I recognize pressure cooked chuck. Why, why would you serve 4 oz of chuck as beef ribs? Do you really need that extra $1 in food cost savings? Really? We went for a birthday, the choice of deserts was 4 (from like 40). The entire pastry case was empty. To celebrate the birthday we order the dessert as we are still waiting for a table (we go the last 4 desserts in the house, and got asked to pay for it before we even sat down) After dinner it is time to have dessert!: Oh, yes, no candles. Mind you this is mostly a desserts bakery. What gets me is that the chef left in the middle of dinner, leaving one guy behind the line, struggling. My Éclair had chocolate inside. Again, why would you? The POINT of an éclair is the pastry cream filling. This may sound like no big deal, unless you go to France, go to an American restaurant and when you get a burgher, the meat is ground pork..... But it you must change it, at least do the filling correctly. Lots of little drops of clumped flour in the filling. The salad under the crab cakes way, way past its prime. I get it, we have all had bad nights. But way too many things went wrong. And the chef left rather then fixing them before the got to a table. read more

A very nice, peaceful place for lunch. It's really cool to have this restaurant inside a garden center (Bauchman's). It makes your experience so much more interesting. Checked this place today 3/26/17. Ordered the creme Brule, a clair and something that similar to a tarimasu. The flavor and texture were all there. Hmm... dinner at the garden center around 8pm... We were the only customers there for dinner; one in our group was over age 80. The help behind the counter was friendly, helpful and patient. Their selection of quiche looked wonderful. Their salad selections appeared a bit uninspired. Their wine selection was meager - Sutter Home Cabernet or Chardonnay from small plastic single serving bottles. Their sweet pastry selection looked beautiful and perfect, save for the fruit flies crawling on pieces of fruit atop some of the creations. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine and it was served with a side salad. The quiche was really good. It had a nice, flaky crust, and delicate egg custard with the detectable hint of nutmeg. For dessert I selected some passion fruit mini torte with glazed fresh raspberries on top. It was light in texture and somewhat flavorful, although not even close to the "punch" of passion fruit flavor I have enjoyed so much in the past while in Brazil. Of all the restaurants in the cities to eat we constantly visit Patrick's. The food is incredible and the pastries and little cakes are amazing. The Broche is what I order every time and there is really nothing like it anywhere! My husband loves the Brisket burger. Tonight was the first time we have eaten there for dinner and it was really fantastic- our waiter was personable and frankly hilarious :) The one drawback is the location- it does not fit in a strip mall next to Papa Murphy's :-/ read more

So so good. My coworker introduced me to Patricks when I had passed it on several occasions and never thought to try it. I've had the salad nicoise, chicken puff pastry dish, and too many desserts to name. Patricks will make you feel so guilty staring into that case! I have come here for the napoleons alone! Drool. There are so many delish goodies but I always go back to that Napoleon. I've tried some others like the fruit tart and almond cookie but they're pretty forgettable. They have a classy white tablecloth setup for dinner, and we came here for my parents anniversary once. The burgers are divine - I had one topped with Brie and it was flawless. Burger was a perfect medium, good seasoning, soft but strong bun (doesn't fall apart) good cheese, and fresh veggies even in the middle of winter. Bakery = Breakfast food, so I figured I'd try it. Turns out, everyone here is a complete jerk. There are 17 other Bakeries within a good distance from my home and place of work that I'd rather go to. When I walked in, they asked me, "what do ya want?" No smile, nothing. Now, I'm not one who is a morning person and in fact, I hate it when people are over-the-top in the morning, but really? Then they forgot adding the muffin I originally went there for and when I asked about it, they not only made me get the receipt out, but then gave me a look like it was my fault. Am I going to lie to a bakery to get a free muffin? Maybe, but not this time. The food, honestly, wasn't bad. It wasn't amazing for a place that is so "big." Once I finally figured out where it was, I am glad I made the extra effort to go. Great from a marketing perspective to get people into the other stores. And the food, well this is what you would expect to get from a French bistro. If you don't mind shoppers with carts strolling around then you will like Patricks. But given the space you have about as much french feel as you are going to get. I had the quiche and its more of the country side versus something you would get in Paris. The guys working here are always rude and snippy, like they're bothered to have customers. They're also frequently out of baked goods (like no Valentines Day cookies at 1 pm on Valentines Day). I love sitting amongst the flowers and plants in Bachmann's, especially on a cold winter day. Please train your staff to be more pleasant (on phone and in person) and stock the baked goods to reflect demand. I'd expect more of a stocked supply, since the main location is less than a few miles away. read more

Why have I not discovered this place sooner! An authentic European viennoiserie/patisserie inside of Bachman's? I can't wait to go to their larger location near Southdale. What a treat, the pastries look just like some of the pastries and sandwiches you would find in Paris or even Vienna. I'd love to try some of their quiches or sandwiches look amazing! Kind of strange that it is located inside of a Bachman's... But I definitely want to check out their main location. The greenhouse is an interesting atmosphere ... pretty humid in the summertime though. Only giving this place 2 stars because the boyfriend was relatively happy with his meal. We were in the area looking for a quick lunch- and this seemed like a decent place. Service was pretty bad. Server was not attentive. I tried to order my sandwich without mustard- but as he kindly pointed out, sandwiches are pre-made. Almost made me want to leave at that point. Boy ordered a steak burger- and it looked quite tasty - and a pretty good lunch price point. I ordered the chicken sandwich on raisin bread. It was a hot mess. The bread was soggy on one side- and burn on the other. The chicken reminder me of McDonald's. Service at the end was again bad- I did not eat 1/4 of my meal- and yet our server brought our bill and didn't bother. Definitely would not come again.
