This place has always been a neighborhood staple. Stopped in randomly to get lunch. Since there was no paper menu to view everything, I was told to go online. I got the Lunch pasta, with bread and side salad. The price online was a $1.00 cheaper than the Wall price. Thankfully, the new owners honored that. The Pasta was delish! Hearty. Stopped in to Colosseum Pizza and ordered a medium pepperoni and sausage pizza. Pepperoni and sausage - Great! The crust even better. Not cracker, not bread, but great flavor and texture pizza dough. Sauce was good (not sweet). I would give this my best rating (without being wood fired with buffalo mozzarella). Sal is from Naples, Italy and has been making pizza for 26 years from Florida to New York. He says the pizza here is better than Naples because "there it's an appetizer - here it's a meal". Ordered a lunch special online and was charged twice for the same order when I picked it up. Noticed it on my bank statement and called the restaurant to inform them. Spoke to the owner and he called his bank and later called me back saying that his bank said they didn't overcharge me and to wait a few days for it to clear. Waited a few days and it did not clear. Spoke to owner on phone about a free meal and he said he would honor it with proof. Showed him a picture of the bank statement and he argued and said it wasnt real and refused to give me my meal or my money back. Bad business, it was a $10 meal like is that really going to break you? No. And if it is, maybe you shouldn't do business. Never ordering from them again. What a waste of time and money! We stopped to eat lunch at Colosseum Pizza for lunch on Monday, Aug. 26th about 12noon. We attempted to stop by over a month ago, on our travels to/from Lewes, DE but found that it was closed on Sunday. We ordered a large The Works. The place has the typical tables and chairs, you would find in any one of a thousand places. There were apx. 10 tables, with some that could seat four and a couple for just two. Decor was basic, nothing fancy. No Feng Shui here, thank God! The bathrooms were very clean! Many times, the bathrooms are a disaster in these small places. Here, not the case. The patrons, from what I could tell, were locals. Blue and white collar workers. Most seemed to order a variety of different items -- subs, pizza or salad. Now, about the pizza. It was very good! The pizza crust was thin, crisp and well cooked. It was not mushy in the middle or doughy. It did not drip oil, as with many other places. Not one topping stood out over the other -- and this is good -- as in some places, where the peppers or pepperoni stand out above all of the other items. It was really a very nice blend. The sauce was not spicy. And, you could fold the pizza slice, just as you would in NYC, without a problem. If I was in the area and looking for a pizza place, this is it! read more

About once per week, we used to order the most delicious east coast pizza from Colosseum Pizza in Centreville, Maryland on the Eastern Shore. The marinara on this pizza is like true Italian gravy and we had always admired the fact that the owner is Italian and not someone co-opting this fare. Some details pertinent to this story: Colosseum only takes cash or checks, no credit cards; there is an ATM across the street from the restaurant, but my husband and I are notorious for forgetting to carry our ATM cards; we only moved to this area a little over a year ago but we have yet to transfer all of our essentials; my husband is white; I am not; my husband is the one who always picked up and paid for our weekly large cheese pizza from Colosseum, and he always used a check from our out-of-state joint checking account. A few weeks ago, I went without my husband to pick up our weekly pie using our out-of-state joint checking account, because, of course, I had forgotten my ATM card. But, oddly, this time the check was vehemently refused by the owner of Colosseum Pizza in Centreville, Maryland. "We don't take out of state checks and we never have." "Really?" I responded. I then tried to show the owner the carbon copies in our checkbook of all the checks he had, indeed, accepted between over the last year. He wouldn't look. In fact, he smirked, cocked his head and threw a sort of sardonic, sideways glance and grin to his employee as if to say about me *get rid of this flea.* I continued to try to compel him to look at the evidence in our checkbook. There I was, the only person of color (beside our child) in a restaurant full of white people--many staring--making futile efforts to point to our history of economic transactions with Colosseum Pizza through our checkbook and the checks written by the now invisible white hand of my husband. Mr. Colosseum then blurted "You expect me trust the bla--." I asked "What did you just say?" Mr. Colosseum had enough racial sense to correct himself, "You expect me trust every customer." Well, this went back and forth quietly (on my part) until I finally gave up trying to prove to the owner that yes, indeed, he had been accepting our out-of-state checks for over a year, just from a white hand. The words race, discrimination, and racism never entered either his challenge to me or mine to him our, but the subtext was clear and Mr. Colosseum's racialzied euphemisms for black people were obvious, embarrassing to receive in front of the public of that restaurant, and painful to accept with any sort of dignity, especially in front of our elementary-school-aged child. That our child had to witness this still pains me. Later, in the car, our child argued, "But mommy, we always get pizza from this place" and "But mommy, you and daddy always use checks here, right?" and finally, "Mommy, you really have to remember to carry your ATM card." That later we had to explain to our child why this incident wasn't really about ATM cards or checks, but about the ideas learned and imaginings conjured in the heads of some, not all people about others with whom they are less familiar . . . to have to explain that all of this was about something that neither our child nor I could ever change about ourselves was, well, one of our more sad family discussions. Needless to say, after arriving home and recounting our experience, my husband called Mr. Colosseum and respectfully argued the fact that Mr. Colosseum had always accepted checks from my husband, a white man, but when "my black wife comes into your shop..." Mr. Colosseum told my husband "Bu*&%^#t!" My husband told him "racism isn't bu*&%^#t in America, it's historic." Well, just another fine day on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, which some here believe is not a part of the the south. You decide. We already have. Obviously, we will never purchase another pizza from Colosseum Pizza in Centreville, Maryland. My personal response to Mr. Colosseum? Well, I cooked myself silly. That night I made homemade calzones and one 12-inch pizza both with blackened salmon, hormone-free turkey bacon, kalamata olives, caramelized organic red onions, organic spinach, feta, asiago, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses. read more

I had really high hopes for this place, but was sadly disappointed. It was my first time visiting; as this place was recommended to me by a friend. The pizza was OK, but the customer service and the overall experience is why I gave this place a one star. I placed my order on my car speaker while driving; and there was a loud noise on the road when I was trying to complete my order. The gentleman, who I believe was the owner of the store, said something, and then hung up the phone. When I called back to the restaurant to ask what he said, and to make sure he got my order correct; because I didn't give him my name or phone number; or get a total, or order confirmation; his response was, "why are you calling again...I have your order...I've spent too much time on the phone already." I was shocked! At that point I refused to give this restaurant my service. Had it not been for my hungry mom in the car, who talked me into picking up the food, I would've said forget it. But I ended up picking up the food; and instead of the man apologizing; he wrote it off because he was busy. Busy or not, he had no right to be rude and abrupt on the phone. Pizza is really good, but the order taking sucks. Last two times I have ordered pick up by calling ahead, I have gotten there, gave them my name and waited like 20-25 minutes, finally they asked what I ordered. I told them and then had to wait another 30-35 minutes for them to make my food. It was always a young kid working the counter and phones. Guessing it may be the owners son or relative. Love the pizza but when I call in an order at 6pm told it will be 15 minutes then dont get home with dinner till 715-730, my wife accuses me of banging prostitutes on kidwell and that aint cool! 3 stars for the food 0 for the service and making my wife think im getting strange when I bring home pizza. read more

I have been going to Colosseum Pizza for years, and they haven't let me down yet. Their pizza is fantastic. Their garlic knots are out of this world good. I have had their fries, subs, salads and wings... All recommended. If your looking for a place to sit with your kids after ball practice or you are just itching for a hot slice of pizza, this is the place to go! The dining room is not big, and not very extravagant, but who cares? I would not recommend this place to someone looking for atmosphere. They have a small TV (probably the same TV they have had for 10+ years), and it almost always has futbol on, which is cool. The owner is very likeable and friendly, and certainly caters to your needs as a patron. 5 Stars! read more

Since moving to Centreville I've loved this place. They are ALWAYS friendly and will accommodate you for any special requests. For the last 25 years they have been to go-to for pizza in my house. My wife and I tried out this place for the first time this evening. We ordered two steak subs, a large fries and a small pizza. The total was $30. even and we were really expecting to enjoy the items. We couldn't have been more disappointed. Subs were the smallest we had on the shore and the large fry, well it was smaller than expected. Should be renamed the small fry and the one titled small fry should be labeled child's size. The food was average at best and this included the pizza that was supposed to be "the Shore's best". What a joke. Save your money and go to Dominoes down the street.
