We stopped here while exploring the amazing Arts District. We were looking for some good beer and a late lunch after spending the morning at the farmer's market. The building is really cool, and there were already quite a few people dining in the main room. We prefer to sit at the bar, so we saddled up and were greeted by a friendly bartender. I'd give them a higher rating, but the beer selection was a bit limited. (It's technically a distillery, but they also brew beer.) The beer I had was decent, and my wife really enjoyed her seasonal cocktail. Now comes the really good part--the food. The menu was interesting, and there were several things we wanted to try. We settled on the pepperoni wood-fired pizza, and it was phenomenal. A lot of places get part of a pizza right but miss on others. Alfred didn't miss a thing: the crust was perfect, the sauce was spot-on, the toppings were generous, and there was so much cheese. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Another highlight was getting to meet Alfred and hearing the history of the company. It's obvious he has a passion for his business and customers, and it's clear he's well-liked in the community. One of the few places to eat in the area, so I was quite nervous about whether the food would be good or not. I was pleasantly surprised and can say the food was quite tasty. I had the High Street pizza and a Chestertown Moscow Mule...a pretty perfect dinner. There was the right amount of cheese on the pizza, and a good crispy crust. I am astonished to see the massive effort put forth to defend against justifiable, insightful and factual reviews that have been written by my friend and several other people. Our recent visit to your establishment was a rivetingly vivid indication that more effort should be expended in actually paying heed to disgruntled clientele instead of trying to affix the blame to the person writing the review. Your staff were indifferent; bordering on bored and disinterested. When we reported our issue nothing was done to correct the situation and no apology given. They just seemed annoyed we spoke of the matter. Bad Alfred is Bad! we never got to the food part, except what was on the carpet by my feet. The waitress guided us to a table that looked like a kid threw his food on the floor. It was kind of gross to sit there and we asked the server to clean it up. There was no apology or attempt to remediate the mess. Did I mention the restaurant was fairly empty on a Saturday night and there were servers sitting around idle. We decided that nothing good was going to happen, so we left (and nobody cared). Believe them when they tell you they are Bad! Four friends and I went to Bad Alfred's on High Street to get dinner and bond. I was appalled and disappointed by the service we received. When we were being sat down, the man who seated us (who I can only assume is the owner) told my friend to sit his "big black ass at the end of the table". Initially, I thought I hadn't heard correctly. But when we all repeated the same phrase, I was in complete shock. I was unsure of what to do, so we stayed (which I regret doing). The service was lackluster at best, and downright awful at worst. We felt ignored and as if we didn't belong in the establishment in the first place. I'd ask for a refund, but I'm past that. His conduct was absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. I definitely won't be returning, and you shouldn't waste your money there either. read more

A bad-ass distilling company and restaurant. There's a great selection of craft cocktails and locally brewed craft beers here. Prices were very reasonable and the food was great. First the food, we feasted on the house-made crab dip with baked crostini. Gotta be the best. Their wood-fired pizza was great. The brews were $6 a pint. Adulting, a guava IPA was excellent and War Llama, a superb Berliner Weisse sour. Live music in the background. read more

Pizza was excellent, always good but service is a bit chaotic and confusing. In two experience it's been the same. Long wait with no real person to great you, just wait in line till a table becomes available. Owner does make his rounds and speaks with repeat customers or locals. That's a nice touch. Actual person who takes your order may seldomly come back. Seems everyone is doing multiple jobs and no real job responsibilities except for the bus boy. Very much a family business. read more

Had dinner here while in town. Family run spot, super friendly folks! The pizzas were legit!!! Very very good!!! We got crab dip as well which was eh, they the 4/5. While there someone delivered fresh veggies, which I can imagine is why they are so good! We also got a crush and cider - both were yummy. They brew and distill here, so that's cool too! We were headed home from vacation nearby in Maryland and decided to stop in Chestertown. It was a beautiful little town with great stores. We went into Bad Alfred's Distilling not knowing if they could accommodate our large group with no notice but the owner and staff went above and beyond to set up a big table for us. Service was awesome and the food was great. Good reviews from the junior diners on the cheese pizzas, adults were very happy with the burger, crab cake sandwich and puled pork tacos. We also shared the Wilmer Park pizza which was a white pizza adorned with pickles - top notch. We didn't sample any cocktails on this occasion as we had a long drive ahead but will definitely try when headed through the area again. read more

One pizza can feed 2 people. Also had a local draft cider berry peach which was delicious and refreshing. Service was very good, servers all work together to help one another. Great pizza and beer joint! We got the crab dip for an app and the Spring Street pizza, both of which were quite good. Not a lot of vegetarian or even pescatarian (us) options, but we were satisfied. The sparkling lemonade and orangeade we ordered were also quite good. We enjoyed the casual atmosphere and the waitstaff was very nice. I was there last week. The staff were all friendly, polite, helpful, and busy, and the service and food were good. The owner was unpleasant and made an unnecessary, crude, disgusting comment to a staff member - in front of the people sitting at the bar - about another staff member. It was very off putting. First off, we've been here many times and like it very much. That's why I gave 4 stars. But today, the server was awful. Today, we walked in to the hostess stand, with the "please wait to be seated" sign. We waited while the staff milled around for several minutes, not acknowledging us. Finally, the owner came over and seated us. The server, Jennifer, came over pretty quickly and when we said we needed a minute, it was the kiss of death. She disappeared. After finally taking the order, that was it. Pizza came before the second app. Plates were dirty, it was the owner that noticed and grabbed a new plate. Jennifer never asked if everything was ok or took our empty glasses or asked if we needed another drink. She was too busy talking to CO workers, standing in the back, or eating. How much revenue are they missing out on if everyone would have gotten another round, like we would have, but were never asked? The owner actually brought the check for us when he asked if we needed anything. My husband went outside to take a work call and the check and credit card were still there when he came back in. This was the worst service I've experienced, anywhere, in a long while. The 15 percent I left was a gift. read more

If you're looking for a spot for a few drinks or a quick bite to eat, this is it - and it's right in the heart of Chestertown. The Cassinellis, the proprietors of the place, take a lot of pride in their distilling operation and go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. Nice little place! Me and my husband are visiting Chestertown for a quiet weekend getaway for our anniversary. It snowed a few inches last night, so not that we had plans to do anything in particular but there really wasn't much to do and most of the shops in town were closed. We are staying about 5 minutes away at the Brampton Inn, so we drove into town and walked around for a bit regardless of the weather. We noticed this place was open so we popped in to get some food and get out of the cold. The person who greeted and sat us (I assume is the owner/one of the owners) was very friendly and we found out that he used to live in the same town we currently live in (small world lol) A lady came by to take our order, she was also very nice. We went on Friday for Pizza, the owner was personable even though the restaurant was very busy! the Pizza was delicious. we enjoyed the Pilsner. Saturday we went back to watch the Kentucky Derby and have a beer. The restaurant was crowded! again the owner went out of his way to make room for our group.
