Let me start by saying that I am writing this review reluctantly. Yes, because it is a small bakery and I am afraid if too many people know about how good their breads and pastries are they won't be any left when I go to replenish my daily dose of fabulously healthy levain breads. That said I saw some reviews complaining about their bake goods being burnt! I have not eaten anything that was burnt and I have sample 10 different bake goods from them. Yes, they are darker then the stuff at a grocery chain but that is how real artisan bake goods are supposed to look like. But there is no burnt taste at all. Just after 1 week of eating the Levain Country bread on a daily basis I have noticed a very healthy change about me,no details necessary here I hope. Those my friends are what is refer to as "good carbs". I am thrilled and consider myself lucky to have this little gem in my neighborhood. Thank you Colossus! read more

I love this bakery, but I'm giving it 3 stars because the way Colossus handles online ordering is not efficient. Who would've known that you have to call them and let them know you are there for them to start working on your mobile order? It defeats the whole purpose of ordering online to skip the line. Why not just add an "I'm here" button to your website? Having to call or cut a long line of people to let the cashier know you are here is an inconvenience. I stood off to the side for way too long waiting for my drink that was suppose to be ready a few minutes after being placed, but because I didn't know to call in, I didn't get my drink until over half an hour later. And I wasn't the only one, another lady waited longer than I did to receive her drink. I wish you would change that Colossus so I could change this review to 5 stars! read more

I'm the spirit of the season on a Sunday's morning walk with the dog, I picked up a sugar sprinkled, papita topped pumpkin bread, along with an iced Latte from this cute little bakery. Upon first arrival it doesn't look like much, but step through the door to a small lobby with an entire view of the kitchen strait back. Pastries behind glass on the right, a register and fixings for your coffee to the left. Very friendly staff and very clean looking. It's a new bakery but looks promising so long as they keep the fresh baked goods coming every morning, and keep thinking of the little things. (Like having simple syurp for iced coffee as sweetener, because we all know that auger doesn't dissolve in cold water) read more

Pleasantly surprised. I recently moved back to my hometownnn and found so many new coffee places right by home. Ventured from PV to SP today and found. Colossus! They are opened during COVID yay! So you order from your phone and they bring everything out. Website ordering is very user friendly. Easy steps smooth process. I ordered a couple things. Also somethings that were already sold out :-(. So I'll be coming earlier next time. The matcha cortado with oat milk was amazing!!!! The barista gentleman is pretty prooooo at making it haha. And got the ham and cheese croissant, croissant, banana bread and cookie. All were sooo delicious. But too much carbs lol. Brought them for my neighbors but ate some. The cookie is sooo bomb. My neighbor actually put the croissant in their air fryer and it tasted fresh AF. Sooooo do that. I really wanna try their bread. Can't wait to come back many many more times. I was there on opening day and have continued to come in many times since. A true gift to the neighborhood. I found them originally through the DTLB Farmer's Market and was thrilled when they chose San Pedro to open their storefront. I love their Chai lattes, their country loaves make avocado toast perfection, and their treats can't be beat. Plus they are lovely people which make it even better! I was so excited to see the new bakery, but went there 1 hour after they opened, they sold out of the pastries already, that isn't good, they should make enough to last at least 4 hours, I am sorry to say that unless you have more product to sell, you may not last, also the price is to much. read more

My son ordered from Colossus today and he got (2) bread puddings and a quaign Aman for each of us. I tried his bread pudding and it was extremely bland. Unlike any bread pudding that I had ever had. He regretted purchasing two, BUT they made up for it with the quaign's. They were awesome! We wish we had gotten more of those. Definitely will be back! read more

What a joke. Don't waste your time. Drove 30 minutes to try this bakery. Waited in line, but everything is sold out. Bread is supposed to be ready in 10 minutes, but can't prepay. I get that they opened 5 days ago. Lots of workers but only one person at the counter. So much for supporting local. I'll be surprised if they're around in a year. Drive to Tartine in LA instead...at least they'll have baked goods. read more

I really wanted to like this place and was so looking forward to another bakery opening up in the same location in our neighborhood. We went near grand opening time and yes it has taken me a while to post. We got a croissant, a cookie, and a cappuccino. We did not get the bread because it looked burned for one and the price for a burned loaf of bread was beyond me. On to the tasting, the croissant was a bit on the dark side as well, and while the consistency was good, I could not get the burned taste and the extra saltiness out of my mouth. The chocolate chip cookie was good, but again too salty. Needless to say I was disappointed. I can say I have been to Paris and the boulangeries there and not once did I ever see loaves of bread that dark. I also don't recall having croissants so salty and over baked. Like I said I wanted to like this place, and was hoping they needed to work out the kinks, and have been following on social media, only to find the pictures they post are still full of pastries that are too over-baked looking. I will admit I was one of those who was soooo disappointed when they first started with their lack of inventory within an hour of opening. I felt that they catered to their farmer markets more than pedro. But it appears they turned it around and now have a good grasp on supply. Anyhow that being said I have tried on multiple locations to fall in love with one of their pastries. No go for me because I feel they are over baked. So why do I keep coming back? Well I am sucker for a local establishment and there is NO doubt this bakery has the best coffee in town. In fact I wish they would just open a coffee shop. Also their bread is pretty decent. If I had to rate the coffee it would be a 4 stars hands down however the over baked goods bring it down to a three. But guess what? What a treat. A tiny storefront with the most adorable young woman at the register. Knowledgeable about the ingredients and clearly delighted to tell us about the items available. We got there around 11am Saturday and while there was enough of a selection to choose from I think many items were sold out. That isn't a criticism rather a testament to how delicious the pastries are. Banana bread, two kinds of cookies, cake and a stunning sourdough bread for tonight. I have to say I was a bit disappointed the coffee wasn't good and they have a small bakery menu but when I went to order they only had two items to choose from so I just ordered one black coffee and iced coffee. This is the most personally fantastic thing to happen to me since moving to SanPedro 5 years ago! Colossus pastries are as good as ones from my favorite bakery in Paris, but my dog and I can easily walk to COLOSSUS. Savory or sweet, they can bake no wrong. Most of the time, they are still warm from the oven and melt in your mouth with buttery sweet goodness. If this is a harbinger of things to come for our little corner of the world, I am all for it.
