Stopped in this afternoon as my wife wanted a sandwich and they have a very nice menu. My wife ordered a turkey verde with whole grain bread and she thoroughly enjoyed it. An excellent neighborhood coffee spot! The Masala Chai Tea is a nice upgrade from the usual Starbucks stuff that you can find on any street in America; it's sweet (but not too sweet!), creamy, and definitely flavorful. If I had to nitpick - I'd note that the cups here are a tad undersized - so the large tea bags take up a substantial portion of the cup (which in turn, throws off the balance/composition of the tea, etc.). If you call to place an order after 8 PM (which I do from time to time), they'll very rarely answer the phone. This, of course, gets in the way of being able to pop in and out for a quick pre-ordered drink. The folks at Hojas should do a better job of staying on top of phone calls - that's Customer Service 101! A little fine-tuning would go a long way here - fixing the cup size issue + upping the consistency with phones would be a big plus. :) PRO TIP: Parking on 6th Street can be a little unforgiving - so try to be courteous with not hogging the spaces in front for too long (there aren't many!) read more

Stayed in the hotel across the street. The chai caught my eye this morning. Walked in and there was a line already. It gave me time to scan the menu. Decided on masala chai. It came out few minutes later. Not too spicy, lightly sweetened. Perfect for this morning. The Christian music is great way to start out the day. I recently visited this coffee shop and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience due to the way I was treated by an employee named Veronica. My order was entered incorrectly -- I requested a hot tea, but it was made iced. Mistakes happen, and I completely understand that. When I politely tried to clarify that I had asked for it hot, Veronica responded with a tremendous amount of attitude. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, she approached the situation defensively, as if I were trying to get something for free or create an issue. To be clear, I was not complaining about the product or trying to scam anyone. It was a simple correction. The tea was made iced, and I had requested it hot. That's it. In customer service, tone and professionalism matter just as much as accuracy. Customers should feel comfortable speaking up when an order is incorrect without being met with hostility. read more

Given a few Hojas gift cards over last 2 years. Gift cards never expire in California.* However, when trying to redeem for coffee, Hojas had updated/upgraded their system and it no longer recognized any of them. The lovely staff said they would get the owner to figure out how to transfer to new system gift cards so I left my name/number and the cards with staff. A week later, nothing. I go back in, re-state what happened and again, again lovely staff takes my name and number but no manager nor owner ever called me to rectify. Go in a third time, repeat, and still NO RESPONSE. AM DONE with Hojas and will tell my gift card givers of this and any one else who ever suggests we go have coffee there. Doesn't seem to be a very 'Christian' customer service policy. *In California, it is generally illegal for gift cards to expire. Under California Civil Code § 1749.5, retail gift certificates and cards cannot have an expiration date or dormancy fees, and they must be redeemable for cash if the balance is less than $10. Update since my first review.... We woke up with a palate... palette? pallet? Uh ah yes palate... for a little tea or at least one of us woke up with the feeling for the calming and soothing, soul warming blanket in a cup of tea. So... we were on the hunt for some good tea and we most definitely found it at Hojas Tea House. Since our first discovery of Hojas, we have returned on a few frequent occasions during the week. You might say we were tea vibin. My go to for hot drinks is usually coffee, so for my first visit selection, I shifted to a dirty chai to participate in our cozy tea endeavor. Heads up... There is a little bit of an assumption by some for the staff that the general public is familiar with the two chai options they offer which are "House Chai" and "Masala Chai". I don't have a degree in chai so I was apparently confused but the all knowing chai master behind the counter was gracious and patient enough to only roll their eyes and explain the difference. My conclusion is the house chai is a derivative of its origin but we'll leave this for an entertaining conversation at the tea house on another day. In all fairness, I think that maybe walking in with my diner coffee perspective and asking if they could make a dirty chai was maybe a little presumptuous of me... maybe. I could have looked at the vast tea offerings on menu. The Chai tea is the first on the list so, I'll take the L. Observation... On a couple occasions we ordered the Ginger "Vanilla" Cream tea. On the first attempt to order this drink, we were told "we ran out of vanilla, would you like coconut instead?" We placed our second order a few days later online, so it was a little odd that we were able to order the Ginger Vanilla Cream but when we got their we received the "we ran out of vanilla... blah blah coconut blah" line again. I will say that the Ginger "Coconut" Cream drink is still a pretty good alternative. Maybe next time if/when we attempt to try the Ginger "Vanilla" Cream, I'll head over to the local market and pickup some vanilla just in case so we know what its all about considering its in print on their menu. It's starting to feel like when you can't have something and now you want it more even. Gotta check myself. None the less, Hojas does have great products as we've tried several of their tea offerings "hot or cold" all of which have been 100% winners. Tea products... I give Hojas 3 stars because I really really want to like it! It used to be a coffee/tea shop I would go to often, but the last few times I've had it was a little disappointing /: I feel the quality of their menu items aren't the same & the customer service is always lacking... today I got their cafe con leche coffee and for a pretty expensive small cup of coffee it was drinkable but pretty meh. The cup wasn't even all the way full of coffee (small 12oz cup) and most of it was just foam, I was unfortunately wishing I had gotten my coffee somewhere else when drinking it :( & on their menu they have a note posted that their prices may not be accurate which kinda gave me a weird vibe since I didn't know how much I was gonna be spending on my order. I get they're not Starbucks but to tell a customer you ordered it like that and if you want another one made you have to pay for it. I dislike to leave a negative review, but I felt the need to. Today, my hubby and I stopped by the San Pedro location. We both ordered our usuals, iced masala chai's. We both took our first sip, and to our unpleasant surprise our drinks tasted SOUR. It tasted as if our drinks were expired. I absolutely could not take another sip, we went back to let them know. When we approached the counter we let the girls know that our drinks tasted off and that our drinks had a sour taste. Mind you, we are loyal customers so we know how a masala should taste like. We explain to her and she looks at us in disbelief almost as if she didn't believe us. There's no reason for us to lie. We just wanted to enjoy a nice tea on our way home. They did offer to remake it, which was nice, but we chose a different drink. I don't know what caused the drink to taste so awful but that's something that should really be checked out by the owner. Make sure that drinks are being properly prepared, and also when your customers come forward about a drink tasting off, they should make it more welcoming by listening without making it feel that we are in the wrong to voice our concerns regarding our drinks taste. This evening, I arrived around 8pm and lost track of time. Around 8:59pm, I noticed the lights flickering and realized it was likely a signal that the tea house was closing at 9pm (this was my first time being there that late). Right before leaving, I needed to use the restroom. Since I'm pregnant, I try to make sure I use the restroom before heading out, so I asked if I could quickly do so. I was told that they were already closed and that everyone needed to head out. I completely understand the importance of closing on time and respecting business hours. I just hoped there might have been a little flexibility or understanding given the situation. Hojas is the community spot. Best tea beverage selection, food and bakery items are fire too, and I really appreciate the service workers (so be sure to tip!) There is indoor and outdoor seating with wifi which makes this place the perfect spot for studying, meeting with people, or to take your break. I've probably tried everything on the menu but my favorites are the white tea blend, toasty and nutty, the chais, and energize me. You can't go wrong with the coconut cream. It's dope that this place is in wilmington and it's one of my favorite cafes in existence. This Hojas location is not as good as the Wilmington location in my opinion, but still offers the same menu. The service is fast but the location is smaller inside and only about 1-2 tables inside. There is more seating outside as well. I stick with the iced coconut infusion and it is very refreshing. I try not to order coffee here as they can be watered down or not strong to my liking. I visited this Hojas location on 08/07/2025 for San Pedro's First Thursday event. My husband and I order our usual drinks. We were excited to have a nice iced tea to sip on while walking the event. Our drinks were off from what we usually get. My husband's drink tasted off and my drink was more than off. My drink tasted so sour as if Hojas was using expired ingredients. It was quite disgusting! I couldn't take more than two sips. I unfortunately had to toss my drink away and my husband didn't finish half of his before tossing it as well. I feel as though each time I visit Hojas the drinks aren't the same as they once used to be but this particular time was awful and I won't be a returning customer any longer. Get fresher ingredients, or teach your workers how to properly make your drinks. I'm not sure but you guys need to do better before you get your customers sick and lose business. read more

This place was perfect! Staying across the street for a conference and picked Hojas randomly for breakfast and coffee and, oooh, am I glad I did! We arrived in between crowds so there was no wait. I really liked the vibe - music at just the right volume, people enjoying their coffee, working, and a steady flow in and out. The server helped me make my choice, and suggested a slight modification my tea order that was perfect! The mango green tea came with a bag a premium green tea, several slices of actual mango, and an addition of a coconut infusion that made me feel like I was on island time instead of Long Beach! I also had the avo toast, but had bacon instead of the soft boiled egg as a personal preference- SO good! Lots of spicy arugula and a perfect zing to the spicy mayo. Yum! I tried this place last year when I was new to San Pedro and it was pretty good. I just went back this year and it's still quite good, but $7 for an iced coffee - no thanks. Unfortunately, I won't be back because: 1. They have a menu with the prices and when I went to pay the drink was over a $1 more than what was displayed. When I notified the worker she cut me off mid-sentence to say "- Yes we know. The new prices are here *points to taped menu by the register and walks away". If you know the prices are incorrect, why be rude about it and why don't you just change it? 2. Sirens is right up the street and has a larger selection of coffee so I'd rather go there for coffee. 3. The iced coffees are only 1 size, but are quite large. I always call my order ahead and pick it up with whatever dessert they have behind the window for the day. I love everything that I get but the best drink in my opinion is the house chai! This is a Christian owned establishment so it isn't opened on Sunday's. This is a great place to go by yourself or with a friend to study. There's always people sitting inside with their laptops doing work but it's still appropriate enough to have a conversation inside too. I love everything about this place!
