My golf group and I (12 players) played Colovista about 3 weeks ago and it was playable with the caveat that scorecard to nearest relief drops mo closer to the hole were allowed all over the course. The greens were in good shape but some of the teeboxes needed a little work. Immediate suggestion... Mow down all of the tall grasses that line or cross some of the fairways. It would make for a much nicer experience and speed up play because we were losing balls in and near the fairway which equals... group ball searches.. All in all... very playable. We shall return!!! read more

Played the course July 19th, 2025. Cost was $86 with the cart. This has to be the worst golf course I have played in the last 20 years. The front 9 is a total disaster. I have seen goat pastures in better shape. The greens were OK, but for $86.00 they could have at least mowed and set up proper T-Boxes. No driving on the fairways was ridiculous - I know the offerings in the area are scarce, but don't waste your money or only play 9 holes (10-18). read more

Colovista and its Property Owners Association have been criticized for their management practices and the allocation of dues. It has been alleged that the majority of the dues paid by property owners go towards paying an LLC owned by an individual to manage a golf course that is already managed by the same person. This has raised concerns about transparency and accountability regarding where the dues are actually being utilized. Furthermore, there have been claims that the golf course managed by this individual is considered to be one of the ugliest in Texas, indicating dissatisfaction with the quality of maintenance and upkeep. The community has also faced accusations of discrimination against individuals with disabilities, renters, and those who are not part of a select group that controls decision-making within the community. Residents have reportedly been restricted from accessing amenities such as The Mansion and swimming pool, leading to feelings of exclusion and frustration among community members. The overall sentiment expressed is one of confusion, mismanagement, as well as feelings of hate, resentment, and prejudice within the community. There are two Bastrop Communities governed by an HOA/POA, The Colony and Colovista. There is no comparison between them. The Colony has many amenities for all homeowners. Colovista has only a Golf Course you pay to play. In summary, there are serious allegations regarding how dues are used within Colovista and its Property Owners Association. My partner (female) and I had an incredibly disappointing and discriminating experience while touring The Mansion at Colovista on October 20th, 2024. During the visit, we discovered that the manager, Julie Browne, was recording our conversation without our consent. This invasion of privacy made an already uncomfortable experience even worse. When I addressed this issue with her the following day, her justification--that the recording was for training purposes for her husband- however this was confusing given the lack of focus within the conversation of our wedding plans or the packages at the venue itself. What truly crossed the line, however, were Julie's discriminatory remarks regarding our same-sex relationship. When I inquired if the venue had ever hosted an LGBTQ wedding, her response was "Many years ago". She then took us to a back room on the top floor of the mansion and expressed the deep sadness she had about our choice of getting married as a same sex couple, citing her personal religious beliefs, bible verses, and personal perspective which felt deeply offensive and out of place in a professional setting. Despite her insistence that we would still be able to hold our wedding there, the combination of being recorded without permission and facing such blatant discrimination left us feeling unwelcome, hurt, and disrespected. Couples deserve a venue that celebrates their love, not one that makes them feel uncomfortable and judged. I cannot recommend The Mansion at Colovista based on this experience. read more

Wanted to ride along with my husband while he played a round of golf and they said it would cost full price to ride along with him! $65 to just ride?!?! How does that make any sense??? I can understand a cart fee, but not full price just to ride in the cart!!! Such BS!!! read more

Are you a fan of fairways? Mowed greens? Cart paths that don't look like ground zero? Beverage carts or accessible water during the Texas summer? If you're answer to any of the above is yes, I would consider playing anywhere else under the sun. I've never seen a place where the employees take so little pride in how their course looks. It would have the potential to be a great course if the fairways didn't look like hazards, they added the smallest bit of drainage, or had bunkers that didn't look an actual mortar went through them. I toured over 11 venues in and around the Austin area, (not counting the ones I marked off my list just from online photos) and it only took one look and one interaction with Martha at the Mansion at ColoVista to know it was the one. It had the entire package I was looking for: Martha: It's not just about what the venue looks like, it's about the staff and team members that really make the day special. I can't even write enough praise about Martha to do it justice, but I will say two things. 1. Half way through the day my fake eyelash fell off, she ran home and got glue all within 5 minutes. I basically cried with joy :-) 2. The groom and groomsmen wanted to golf in the morning on the day of, she 100% hooked the men up and let them stop by her house half way through golfing for refreshments. Every single one of the 10 guys were thankful and love her. 3. When I first heard about the venue, I called Martha to schedule a visit.. She proceeded to make time for me right then and there. It was truly amazing. The View: Holy shit. It's beautiful. 1. It's on top of a mountain over looking a valley, with tons of trees. 2. The house is amazing. The way the guys get dressed and ready upstairs, while the ladies have two huge rooms to change in. I couldn't have asked for more space and comfort in a venue. 3. Everything is setup to take the perfect photos. A hanger in a beautiful window for your dress to be photographed, different seating arrangements to have your shoes, jewelry, and flowers displayed. It was amazing and really took the stress off of the bride on having to tell the photographer what to capture. Special Mentions: Day of there were items that I just couldn't plan for, these are just a few of why I loved this venue. 1. Hole number 15 on the golf course. Martha arranged getting the groom and bride into a golf cart and taken to hole number 15 before the ceremony so that the bride and groom (me and my husband) could say our vows. It was AMAZING. 2. The venue opened up to me 15 minutes early without asking for more money, I know that doesn't sound like much, but trust me that 7:45 vs 8 am is a big difference when you are looking at venues. --- Thank you Martha for everything!! --- read more

We booked colovista for our wedding day. The first contract we signed was for August 10, 2019 but they "forgot" that they had some annual golf event that day so we had to move it back to August 17, 2019. Julie tried to say that she didn't make us move it back but I still have the text. Then we were told about a bar fee in April that wasn't in our contract. Julie said she must have told us over the phone but never did. Then at that time she wanted to charge us $10 more an hour for each bartender. We were told $25 an hour and she tried to up it to $35. That was actually in the contract so we only had to pay $25 but come to find out that her husband was one of the two bartenders, which by the way he couldn't pour keg beer, it was over half foam. The week before the wedding she lets me know that the day of coordinated had quit. All of these great reviews revolve around this coordinator which I was really hoping and she's what I paid for, so honestly didn't get my money's worth there. She took it upon herself to hire the wonderful lady that did my decor, and herself to do the day of coordinator. Well the lady she hired didn't get a say. Julie bossed her and every other person around including myself, my husband, our bridal party and my parents. Here's a list of the things she did or didn't do - she didn't hand out any of the koozies we had bought. We had 250 and handed them out to family and friends at the rehearsal and after the wedding we were left with 200. I have a picture I'll leave in the comments. - I bought a custom vase for my bouquet to go in during the ceremony. When the night was over, my flowers were laying on the couch in the bridal suite with the vase nowhere to be found. I had to ask for it, because it was taken out of the suite for no reason. She claimed she didn't know anything about it disappearing, but magically came back with it from their storage room. - My mom found all my memory stuff, my ceremony wooden sign all left outside on Sunday morning so it sat outside all night. Every day of coordinator I've known of grabs that. Julie is much too good for that I guess. I guess it was up to the bride and groom to get that. - She made unprofessional comments to my mom that, "Hanna was a good day of coordinator until it came to pictures", I was the one having to yell directions and who I wanted pictures with next...why was I having to ask people to move out of the way for pictures. That's the day of coordinator's job. Instead she was chatting with her husband and also made it in a lot of the pictures?! - My husband and I went to take pictures and Julie was suppose to get us a plate to eat when we got back, (last thing I told her before we left) and she didn't even do that. by the way any bride wants her bridal party to eat at the bridal table, mine ate in the bridal suite. We never got to eat at our table!!!!! - Every wedding I've been in they do a countdown 1 hour, 30 minuets, so on to let the parties know when it's starting. I had no idea and no track of time that we were about to start until my bridesmaids were yelling to keep the door shut because my husband was lined up right outside the door about to walk down the aisle, Julie never thought to tell me that when she knew we were going in and out of the bridal suite. My husband almost saw me, not sure if Julie did that on purpose or not. But he was very close to seeing me right before the ceremony because Julie failed to tell me he was outside my bridal room. - Then, while we were taking pictures she put my bridal party (which was 14 people) in a room and had the lady she hired from me block them in and she told them Julie told her to stand in front of the door and not to let them out like they were caged animals. This is also the room they ate in. They had maybe 6 chairs so a lot of them ate on the floor. - She told my mom she shouldn't have given us our refund back because they spilt stuff... what do you expect when you put 14 people in a room and lock them in there! - She refused to open another small room set up for dining guests in the downstairs area. So the extra guests that needed the room she sent upstairs...this included my uncle who just had hip surgery. This caused family to be upset and leave earlier than they intended because of the inhospitable behavior. - She also grabbed one of my groomsmen's phones off an aux while they were waiting in that room because he was playing music. What decent human being can't use their words to kindly ask it to be turned off. - Our last dance was announced, and before we even finished, she started pushing our photographers out and our guest. I wanted pictures of that moment and didn't get them because of her. You get one wedding day. That's it. You get one shot at it and Julie ruined it. It's sad because the mansion is so pretty but it's not worth it. I'm sad that I had so much bad on what was suppose to be the best day of my life. A year ago I joined as a member and recently renewed for a second year. Bobby and the crew at Colovista provide a very nice course for everyone to play on. The greens are always in excellent shape and the fairways in decent shape too. I have met many nice individuals on the course, tournaments and at other events held at the course. Hole #15, the course's signature hole, is always a challenge and the view always spectacular. You can always find me playing Sunday morning with some of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet and know. read more

Diamond in the rough. This course has great potential and Bobby Brown is moving it back towards its former glory. Absolutely huge challenging greens that provide lots of breaks and unexpected turns that would challenge any seasoned golfer. Hole 15 and 16 were my favorites for this round. We had our wedding and reception at Colovista in Bastrop on October 17th. I just want to say it was a great experience. The venue was spectacular and everything I ever wanted. Working with Addison and Ryan was so easy and they took a lot of stress away from what would normally have been a very stressful time. They went out of their way to make sure we got everything we wanted and how we wanted it. We went over what we wanted it and Addison made sure it was done. Wedding coordinator, Debra and her assistant filled in for Brenda Abbott, the day of the wedding and I cannot say enough good about them. They were awesome making sure everything flowed smoothly. If you are looking for a venue for your upcoming wedding, I would highly recommend Colovista. It was the best day of my life, not only because I married the man of my dreams, but was able to have the venue and experience of my dreams as well. read more

The HeyDay when this golf course was something to behold has vanished. Played there yesterday and was shocked at the condition of the course. The once plush fairways are now weed infested. No more manicured fairways. One cannot tell where the fairways are any more on the majority of the holes. The once nice and smooth cart paths, are now gone and replaced by pot holed paths. The only somewhat good of this course are the fair greens. Don't waste your money on the course!!! read more

What a great place. I visited for a friend's wedding and I was so impressed. First we got there Friday evening and spent the night in one of their cabins, it felt more like a townhome and had a TV and internet. Looked like there were 7 or 8 of them available and I think they slept a few people each. Anyway we golfed all the next morning and the course was fun and well kept. Bob in the golf shop was friendly and helpful. After a full 18 holes we got ready for the ceremony which was at a scenic overlook on the Colorado river about a 1000 feet up. Scenic might night be a strong enough word because when the sun started to set it was magical. The reception was held inside the mansion and it's huge! Two floors with plenty of restrooms and places for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready. We ate dinner downstairs and then moved upstairs for the reception and the DJ was actually kind of good! We danced until about 10 and then went back down to the cabins for the afterparty! It was so cool as the cabins are quite secluded and we got away with continuing the party for a couple more hours. Great place and I wanna get married here!! read more

Played this course for the first time since it was reopened recently. The staff is making a great attempt to bring this course back to its original condition. It has a way to go, but the effort seems to be working. The greens are still coming back, but the fairways were in good shape. The layout is one of the best I have played and it is still one of my favorite courses in the state. Only three stars because of the greens. read more

Played this course regularly in college as a member of the A&M gold team, and let me tell you this is NOT the same course. Extremely disappointing. The layout is the same but the condition of the course is embarrassing. So upset I wasted the $50 to play what once was a great course. FYI-this course is now a CO-OP for the homeowners that live in the community...think a government agency and everyone is in no rush to serve the customer. read more

I've played six rounds here in the past two years. The course includes an open "links" arrangement on the front nine, with a much more dramatic "hill country" spread on the back nine, with spectacular views of the Colorado river. There are many challenging holes, with many tee boxes below the greens. The greens are in very good condition but are not too fast. Bobby Brown and his staff are very friendly and accommodating. The on-course casitas are in excellent condition, clean and quite comfortable. The course does have cart path issues, but the staff has plans to correct these. The 15th signature hole is a thrill to play. The course can accommodate the best players and hacks like me. The catered food service was terrific (from Bastrop' Fieldhouse BBQ)served in a beautiful club room opening onto an octagonal porch with tremendous views. Bobby and his team very much appreciated our patronage, and will welcome you with open arms. Go play! read more

What an amazing place for our wedding!! My husband I got married Colovista 10/10/15. Addison was easy to work with and made us feel at home. We had the rehearsal dinner at their restaurant , The View, and the bridal party stayed at the cottages the Friday and Saturday. It was the complete experience!
