I moved recently and found the employees nice, but I caution anyone who uses Colt in the future. I was the last move of the day and the truck was basically empty, but it took the movers an additional 2 hours to complete. Seems they slowed down at the end of the move or maybe its because I stopped helping with the move. The other thing is that they do not count your boxes or take responsibility for anything that was lost. They staged everything outside on the sidewalk in the city. It was dark by the time they moved me. No one was watching as they were going back and forth. I lost a box and Colt denied any responsibility. I would recommend that you take an accounting of your boxes before and after the move. I was very disappointed in management's response. I even suggested, let's share in the loss, but putting the customer first is not a virtue of Colt Movers. My advice to future customers: * Schedule your move first thing in the morning; * Have friends and family help you to watch the movers; and * Video or take pictures of your boxes and possessions on the move in and move out. I think Colt expects people only to move once every so often, and they do not plan for repeat customer, but that is bad business. They should rethink their business model. read more

Setting up our move was good. Both the packing and moving office personnel were easy to work with. The estimate was sizably off. Each took longer than predicted. The truck was new to the company (but not a new truck). Once the truck was ready to unload the back doors would not open. This made the two workers unload from the side doors. The order of unload was not what was planned. One end table was severely damaged. Nothing was offered to repair it. And much to our dismay everything was coated in dirty dust. The pads were absolutely filthy. The workers were kind and friendly. The loading was quite unorganized compared to another moving company we had used a year ago. Overall, just average. read more

Me and my wife reached out to Colt to assist in our long distance move. We were told there would be 4-5 movers to assist with moving our over 3500 sq ft home. We let them know what we had to move and the amount of things. I was a little hesitant because this was the first time I've ever had a moving company tell me they don't need to do a walkthrough prior to coming out. We went to the main office to buy boxes to help lower the cost and prep/pack some things before the movers came. We ended up packing some rooms, dismounted all tv's off the wall and packed in boxes, took apart tables and beds as well. The movers were scheduled to come at 1 pm the next day. We received a call at 9 the next day letting us know the movers were on the way. This was unexpected as we were told 1 and had some packing left to do ourselves. We told the person on the phone we were expecting 1 and asked if they could come at that time instead. They acknowledged and said they would be back out around 1 without any issues. When they showed up there were only two movers with no supplies to move us. They were told that everything would be packed and be loaded into pods. The two guys walked through the house, saw what we packed and what needed to be completed. At that time there was a closet with clothes, master bed, kitchen, basement, pantry and garage left to pack. When they called their supervisor William everyone was confused and we were told they would be back the next day at 1pm. The very next day no one showed up at 1. When we called the supervisor William he said he doesn't know why we were told 1 when they couldn't guarantee the time. We requested to speak with the owner Jordan who apologized and said he will get them out as soon as possible. They didn't arrive until 5:30 pm. At that time they showed up with used boxes, small boxes, no boxes for TV's or clothes, and no boxes for dishes. The ran out of supplies and only had the small boxes shown in the picture left to pack clothes, kitchenware and remaining items. Somehow the drivers said they were given a truck loaded without the proper supplies. They also had no tools to take apart any furniture besides an Allen wrench. We contacted the owner who was disrespectful to my wife and didn't want to offer any solutions to our problem beside saying it's not all their fault. When I spoke to him he threatened to call the police if we didn't pay the amount for their service. He offered a discount of 10% and no fees for packaging although his movers came without packaging and we had to buy extra boxes ourselves. He didn't want to refund us for those either. This has been the worst experience with moving the actual movers who came were great but the miscommunication and unwillingness to care from the management and owner was terrible. The lack of communication between management and employees was terrible, the movers who helped us were Bill and Kyle they both were great but we're not set up with the proper materials to make this move a success. We were stuck without having our house packed and charged for 5 hours of loading. The came out to over 1,000 even with the discount to have a house half packed and left unfinished. We were offered to have them come back but when I asked the owner how can I have trust the same thing won't happen he responded without caring and only wanting to get paid for the time they were here. I'm a bit overdue, but wanted to make sure I left accolades where needed! We used Colt Moving back in March, these guys busted their ass and got us moved from start to finish in about 7 hours. They first moved us from my parents basement where we were temporarily staying, which required taking everything up a sloped side yard. It was more than we expected and practically filled their truck. They unloaded that plus 2 pods we'd had stored for 6 months into our new 5 BD house. They were professional, easygoing guys and very careful with a lot of heavy equipment. There was one small piece of damage, which they immediately notified me of and informed me how to make a claim for it. It turned out to be on an incorrect railing installed by our builder that was later replaced, so I didn't need to make a claim after all. I would definitely use them again!! read more

I had used Colt Moving in August of 2021 and was happy with both the move and the price I paid; I felt the 3 movers and one truck I'd hired for an estimated total move time of 3-4 hours sounded reasonable at $950. I had minor damage to one item, but everything was wrapped and packed very well, and movers were quite careful. In August 2022 when I moved again, I of course called Colt Moving. I am one person, and was moving from a one bedroom unit, 3 miles away. The total cost was higher by about $175 - but since gas prices were so high at the time, and they had to drive from Westfield to Broad Ripple, I was willing to pay it. I asked if they had any other locations (as I had seemed to remember from the previous year) and they said no. So my only option was to pay the higher travel fee. When the 3 movers and one truck arrived this time, the driver looked around at all my furniture and decided he would need another truck and 2 more movers! I had itemized in great detail in advance, every item of furniture I own, and number and sizes of boxes, etc. in order to obtain the quote they gave me. prior to moving day. Nothing had changed since then - and also I had FEWER pieces of furniture and boxes as I had during the previous year's move. So, less stuff yet more trucks and more people suddenly required to move it, than when THEY had moved it with 3 people and 1 truck, a year prior (does not add up). When I balked at his suggestion to add more trucks and people in order to get it completed in 3-4 hours as was quoted to me, the driver then said "well, if we can't have the manpower needed to do the job - then it will likely take twice as long to complete" - pushing it from 3-4 hours, to a full 8 hour day! Obviously, both those options he was trying to force me into were going to double my cost, as originally quoted. Not to mention that there was LESS furniture to move this year, and that they had completed it all with 3 men, 1 truck and in 3.5 hours, previously. When I refused to authorize any of that, he said maybe you should reschedule your move then. I felt very clearly that he was trying to take advantage of me, and was insulted. So instead - I insisted that we hold to the original quote, only - and to make it happen in the exact same 3-4 hours quoted to me. I explained how they had moved it all 1 year before in the same time frame, no problem - and how the same was of course possible this time. He did not like that answer and stared at me in disbelief, but agreed finally to give it a go. Great! So they start wrapping things up to take out to the truck, and the driver instructs them to just carry stuff out and told me they would wrap it in the truck later (to save time, he said). They then broke a light fixture when moving items to the truck, and when I asked what had broken, when I heard the crash - the driver told me "not to worry about it". Then once the truck was packed (1 hour later) he wanted to go to lunch, and then meet me at my new place after their lunch. They had arrive at a little past 9am, and it was not quite 11am yet... An hour of work, and then lunch?? I again refused - said that when they had moved me 1 year before, they arrived at 9am and moved me, unloaded and unwrapped everything, and then were finished by lunch time - at 12:30pm. I suggested we do the same. Once we later arrived at my new place - I saw in the back of the truck they HAD NOT wrapped any of my furniture (as I was paying them to do). I have mostly vintage and antique furniture, most of it wood. EVERY SINGLE large wooden piece of furniture I own was damaged during this move - including my great grandmother's secretary desk, which I had explained was my most valuable possession, and had to be treated with extra special care, above all other pieces. They BROKE OFF a wooden finial on the top of the secretary desk, in addition to dozens of gouges and scratches in the wood finish - none of which can be repaired, nor replaced. They also dropped several items, and gouged the walls and floors and doors, at my new place. When I was on the point of tears from the damage they had inflicted to my great grandmother's secretary desk, not only did Jacob not apologize - he suggested it didn't matter because my stuff was old! Not only is this response completely inadequate and unprofessional - it adds insult to the injury they had inflicted. On purpose. My final bill matched the original quote, only because I insisted on the movers sticking to it. But that was at the price of the damage to all my furniture, which seems to be the cost I paid for Jacob being miffed that I wouldn't let him completely change the cost/quote and the time we had agreed upon in advance. When I later called to complain about all this to their office, the response was completely inadequate and also unprofessional. They also didn't apologize for their employee's behavior, nor the damage to all my furniture. Nothing was ever repaired or replaced, and no one cared!! read more

This is the second (maybe third) time we used Colt Moving over the past 3-4 years. Different crew each time, but same result... excellent. Arrived on time, were efficient (always a potential concern when paying by the hour vs. a flat rate), and neat. We bought the extra insurance, but seeing how these guys were careful and organized, we really didn't need to. That said, on a prior move, where we also bought the top-end insurance, they did break a lamp, and they settled the reimbursement claim with minimal hoops to jump. ****WARNING KEEP A DETAILED LOG OF YOIR THINGS, SEVERAL THINGS DISAPPEARED DURING MY MOVE****one of the boxes with all of my kitchen pans is missing. This cost me hundreds of dollars to replace. More recently I realized I am missing 2 sections of glass and wood antique lawyer cabinets with the base and top. These are worth about $1500. I had 11 sections of these with 3 bases and 3 tops. It took me sometime to realize some of these were missing. The crew that moved me took over an hour to get from one house to the next, It should have taken about 20 minutes. they told me they stopped for lunch and I believed them. Not sure what was happening in that 1hour + since this was the only time I was not with them or my things. So sad and disappointing to have items disappear in a move. I obviously would never hire them again, I wouldn't feel confident that my things would all arrive to their destination. read more

Terrible Moving Company! They damaged my mattress which was only six months old (and wasn't even covered for moving), and dented the front of my washer. Their rep. told me they would give me $60.00 for the mattress and that they were not responsible for any damage to appliances.(the contract states nothing about that) When I told him the mattress was new he said it was 6 months old and the damage does not affect the comfort of the mattress. Your better off doing it yourself! Even if you somehow can choose actual value coverage the most you can recover for any damage is $500.00. Although I can't say my move went well,or that I was happy with the experience,I can say it was resolved in a way that turned a dismal situation into a very positive one. It is such a pleasure to find a company in today's time that actually care about their clients. I can tell you colts moving and loaders are a very respectable group of people with integrity of days long gone. I never expected the owner of the company to first take an interest in my particular situation,and two for him to personally reach our to me. He literally took a genuine interest in finding out exactly what went so horribly wrong with my move. He explained what measures had been followed up on within the company due to my experience. Then reassured me that my situation although not standard for his company,could not be tolerated wasn't acceptable and legitimized my feelings.
