My wife wanted chicken wings, and I wanted to bbq so we gave Colt's a shot. The chicken wings were good, we went with sweet and sassy. The wings were cooked good, and the sauce had a a sweet heat. I ordered a 3 meat platter because I like to try everything. I went with Brisket, Pulled Pork and Turkey. So I went in for the brisket first, it was tender but one it didn't have all the salt normally associated with smoked meat, so next I tried the pork, again tender, not as salty and same with the turkey. So I am not really a sauce guy per say, I prefer a dry rub and smoke flavor on my bbq. This meat needed the sauce. I think I had sweet and it was good. Normally I'm not a big fan of bbq however Colts BBQ is the one bbq place I'm a huge fan. The first time I went I had a full rack of tender ribs, coleslaw, and the best onion rings. I ate every bite where normally I give most of my food to my husband. He had the 3 meat platter and fell in love with it. We took home a slice of their delicious home made carrot cake. So today my husband was shocked when I actually requested to go back to a bbq place. He had the fat boy sandwich and loved it. I had a trio of sliders. 1 each of shredded pork, turkey, and beef brisket. I ate every bite and even added their sweet bbq sauce which is unheard of for me. The meats melted in my mouth. I stopped at Daytona Pig Stand on my way back to St Augustine since I was in the mood for barbecue and it was conveniently located off of 95. First thing I noticed was an 18 wheeler in the parking lot that looked like a huge grill. The only problem with it was it was taking up so many parking spaces. Inside, it has a rustic feel to it. You order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you at your table. Since it was the first time I ate there, I asked what they were known for and was told their ribs. I opted for the rib combo, a mixture of baby backs and St Louis ribs with sides of French fries, coleslaw, and garlic toast. The food was delivered pretty quickly and my first bite of baby back ribs were very good. The sauce on them was sticky and tangy (a good thing for me) and the meat fell of the bone. That was until I got to the last one and it was rib jerky. The St Louis ribs were very fatty and I was picking off big pieces of fat before almost every bite. These had no sauce so I tried all four of the sauces on the table - original, sweet, spicy, and mustard. The original was probably my favorite of those four but none of them blew me away. The coleslaw tasted great but on the verge of being room temperature. The fries were crispy but very salty. The garlic toast was also extremely salty. Overall, it was good but feel it could have been so much better. I originally was going to give it a three but the place was clean and the first few baby backs were really good. read more

One of the best parts about travel is getting to travel to new places to eat. Good and bad, local and chain, exotic and mundane. But nothing screams invitation to me better than BBQ. With so many styles and types it's hard not to find at least one menu item worth pulling your car over. Pig Stand graciously rewarded my decision to stop. What caught my eye was the proximity to the Harley Davidson on the exit. I can hardly imagine a bbq place thriving next to a large biker community without being at least a decent level of good. But this place delivered a great pulled pork sandwich, succulent and rich in flavor from start to finish. Portion was good, the staff was crazy friendly, and overall seemed clean and inviting. They had a great attitude about being a tourist stop. I overheard the serving staff giving some great advice to travelers, but got food out quickly. I must admit, this was the WORST BBQ I have ever eaten. She got ribs and chicken and I got pulled pork and turkey. The pork was full of fat and the turkey was so dry I could barely swallow it. The collard greens I had had absolutely NO taste, No seasoning. However, the fries were good. She said her ribs was tough and no taste and the chicken was OK. We spent $ 42.00 for lunch which I thought was outrageous, but it is what it is. It took about 25 minutes (1pm Sunday) to get our food and there were about 18 other people seated. I have been here a couple times now. First time was a handful of years ago and I was happy to find it still in business. I had a three meat combo platter which included a 1/4 rack of baby back ribs, 5 or 6 chicken wings with their sweet and spicy sauce, and some smoked turkey. The two sides I had was cole slaw and their bbq beans. The ribs were good and were falling off the bone; they were better with some of their sauces; my favorite was the spicy bbq sauce. My chopped pork sandwich on Texas toast was good but there was a little too much fat on the meat. I enjoyed the sweet BBQ sauce. The potato salad was bland and the mac and cheese was just OK. They had a few different beers types. I ended up trying one I hadn't seen before, Orange Blossom Pilsner. It was good with just the slightest hint of honey.
