I had a very disappointing experience. Employees are RUDE!! The way customers are treated is unacceptable. After paying, Mike pressured about the tip. When I didn't leave the amount they expected, I was told, "Don't come here again. Leave." That was incredibly rude and unprofessional. A tip is optional and should be based on the customer's choice and satisfaction. No customer should be made to feel uncomfortable or insulted because of the amount they tip. I've been coming here for over 10 years. Mike cuts my hair and has done a great job for about 10 years. Next door is their hair salon which is also the same owner. Annie colors my hair and also has done a great job for about 10 years. The owner and the owners wife also know me by name. They treat me like part of the family. Both places have a very low employee turnover rate. This is one of the main reasons why I've been coming here for over 10 years. This is a great place to come and their prices are very reasonable. I've never had any wait person or haircutter object before, and she was rude and continued to dispute with me, after I'd paid. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a barber shop. The barber himself was very awkward and made me uncomfortable. He touched my face and shoulders in unnecessary and unprofessional ways. He chose to rub his crotch on my thigh and knee when he had plenty of space to move elsewhere. He moved my shirt and used the straight razor to shave very far down my back and touch my back without me asking him to do so. According to my friend who has been there a few times before, this is common behavior for him and he has been doing it for years. Aside from this behavior, the haircut was very poor with glaring asymmetries and patches of missed hair. I had to get it fixed elsewhere because I did not want to interact with the barber any longer. Additionally, there was a lot of hair on the floors and tables and equipment, so sanitation is clearly not a priority at this establishment. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I would highly advise everyone against going to this barber shop. At the very least this barber needs to have some self-awareness on the way he touches his clients, and at the worst he needs to be investigated by proper authorities. read more

I've been coming here for years. I've never had any problems and have used Tin, Dong, Gloria, Mike, Flavia and Tam, to cut my hair. It's clean, cheap and very friendly. Also good for the kids. They have the tv on with the news or a sporting event for your enjoyment. It shouldn't have to be said, but if you go on a Saturday or Sunday, expect it to be busy, everyone else had the same idea that you did! This place came on my radar after looking at some reviews from other Yelpers who seem to have the same taste in haircuts/barbershops that I do. I was initially kind of skeptical because wasn't sure if some of the positive reviews may have been influenced mainly by the price. But the descriptions from other reviews made it sound like my type of place. I haven't been able to make it to a barber for several weeks and figured it'd be worth a try for nine dollars. When first getting there I wasn't sure what to expect and there were some things that would normally throw up red flags for me. For example I was directed to the salon next door, I kind of questioned if the person waving me over could cut the style I wanted, not to mention that they were readily available while the barbershop next door had people waiting. Also when sitting down the barber asked if I wanted the usual like last time and I had to tell her it was my first time there. But the first good sign was feeling the clippers pressed against my head and actually getting a number one cut. There are many other barbers, where when I'd ask for a number one they hardly ever touch the sides at all and leaving it shaggy. And then she did all of the finishing touches like gel, blow dry, shaving the edges with a razor, baby powder (first time ever getting baby powder after a cut), etc. Before the cut she mentioned how they've been in business a long time and afterwards when checking the cut she also mentioned how she was familiar with Asian hair and styles. I was skeptical at first but I think she proved both of her points. This place is a little bit too far from home. So I'll probably keep taking my other family members some place closer to home. But I plan on coming here on a more regular basis myself. As an added bonus, the Vietnamese restaurant An Loi is right next door. I'm not sure if it's related to the one that used to be over at Wheaton Plaza but knew there was a place with the same name in Columbia and always wanted to check it out. Four stars only because I've only been here once and I'm not sure how consistent it is or how the other barbers are. But based on this first experience alone I would've considered it five stars and expect to upgrade the rating after coming here several more times. read more

I did a review of this place before but I'm guessing someone flagged it. So here's another review! I'm simple when I get a haircut. Either shave everything off or just focus on sides and back, no touching the front and top. Simple. And they do it correctly every single time, no matter who cuts my hair. Even the few times I was "trying out" my new hairstyles, they have never did any less than I expected or hoped. They're a Vietnamese owned family joint that expanded a few years ago. They charge a flat fee of 9 dollars for a regular haircut. 9 dollars. Other barbershops I've went to would charge me 12-15 dollars for a regular haircut. They don't expect tips or ask for them. You just give them 9 bucks and if you feel satisfied or anything above that then feel free to give a tip. I usually give them 15-20 bucks but they take cards now. I still give them cash though. They're the best barbershop I've ever been to. Fast, cheap, service is consistent. Oh and I love the part where they put that really warm shaving cream on your neck and face. It feels soooo gooood. It doesn't get better than this. Well, the ambiance could be better for those who're picky, but other than that, nothing beats this place. read more

Van has been cutting my hair for over 30 years. She cut my hair when the was at Bart's in Laurel. When she moved to Columbia, I went to her. She is very good and cuts my hair the way I like it. She also cuts my wife's hair. I go to her every two weeks and the wait is minimal. She is the best barber I have ever gone to and would not go to any other barber. She takes her time and cut "every" hair. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a barber. She now charges $10 which is an exceptional price. This was my first haircut in 8 years. In college I started using a razor to go for that close-cropped shaved look (See profile picture or.. imagine Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta). It was simple, easy-to-manage and most importantly: cheap since it was a DIY-er. In December I decided to grow out my hair so refused to cut it for almost 2 months. It was quite unruly. Anyhow my wife *begged* me to finally cut it before we hosted a dinner party and had dinner with her parents. I arrived here on a Saturday afternoon, just before our dinner party. No appointment needed. The haircuts here are $9 (not including tip). The haircut took less than 10 minutes. The barber shop was packed, yet there was no wait. A sign of efficiency. Now I wouldn't suggest anyone with anything complicated or too long to come here. Otherwise, this is the place for a quick, efficient trim. read more

My husband loves this place... they are very quick. If they are busy and they direct you to the Salon side, and you don't want to go, just tell them no, you'll wait for a barber, they will understand. They are only redirecting you for your convenience to not have to wait, not to annoy you (this is directed to the previous commenter, Brian B.) They do accept credit cards but please note that they charge a $1 service fee if you use one. This place is best if you just want a basic, barber haircut. If you want something fancy, or are worried about getting too much hair cut off, you're better off going to a 'salon'. A total hit and miss. First of all this place is a like big party, people laughing and talking in (I assume) Vietnamese, all good fun. The problem is the majority of those dudes don't know the 1st thing about haircuts. I saw a total of 5 people cutting hair, 2 of them were pretty good, the other 3 were just atrocious. You can tell the ones who do a bad job: they simply would not shut up. I mean who can do a good job when you are constantly yapping about whatever and you don't focus in the task at hand? I was in the line checking out all the cutting action and was dreading getting one of the 3 stooges. Sure enough, I got one ("yes sir right here sir"). He literally spent more time talking/laughing and looking at the side than cutting my hair. I tried to explain what I wanted, but after a couple tries I saw it was a losing battle. "Yeah, chief looks good, have a great one" I'm sure some people get decent haircuts and I'm all for the "party mode" but someone needs to tone down that barber shop a notch or 2. read more

You get a pretty legit haircut here for only $9 plus tip. No appointments here and you rarely have to wait as they have multiple barbers at once. They always ask me how I want my dew and I always reply, "Just make me look cool." And you know what.... They almost succeed. The only problem with this place is the fact that they don't face you towards the barber stand when you are getting cut. They face you in the opposite direction which means you face all the people waiting which can get quite awkward. read more

I don't remember the name, but among the 4 or 5 times we got haircuts here, there were 2 times that this one guy was completely rude to us. One time was when we were paying the bill and my dad was getting his dollar bills for the tip. We handed the guy $2 first while searching for more bills (my dad's wallet is messy). I TOLD him that we were going to give him more, but maybe he didn't hear or care, because he started shouting about how pitiful the tip amount was and that it's better if we didn't tip instead, in a way that completely humiliated my dad. Something to note is that my dad is a bald man with sparse amounts of hair. And he only asked him to cut his hair on a 3. Nothing else. This took about 2 or 3 minutes or less. The place is cheap, but in terms of customer service, don't expect ANYTHING. Also, They directed me to the saloon one time, and I made the mistake of asking a lady there to do my bear. She might have been a new hire, I don't know, but she used something to scratch up my face and trim my semi-beard and took about an hour to do it. read more

My daughter and I came in the salon side and sat down just like every other person did when they walked in there. I just wanted to get my 6 year old daughter's hair trimmed. We were there first, and then about six people walked in after us and sat down. We watched each of the six other people get called for haircuts, and not one person working there even acknowledged or looked at us. After every single worker had taken a different person and waiting over a half an hour, I decided to walk out. I was very upset and offended that we had got ignored, maybe because we were the only girls, but that is the reason we went to the side that says salon. It is definitely not a salon. I've had my hair cut here about four times in the past 8 months. The first two times I had a decent cut, not great but really couldn't complain for the price. Then the third happened, I asked for a little off the top just to clean it up and use a 3 on the sides. Well all my hair was cut off, none of the instructions were followed, not even close. So because it was cut so short I needed to grow it back. Fast forward 3 months to today. I came in with about 4inches of hair. Once again I sat down and gave instructions, a four on the sides and a very light trim off the top. She repeated that to me and asked how I wear it? I responded forward with the front to the side. I even showed that to her. She was doing fine until she started talking to another barber at which point she just started chopping hair off. Not much one can do at that point. She then just cut my bangs completely off moving too quickly to give objection. While she was cutting the sides she just randomly and for no reason ran the clippers down the length of my face cutting the stubble I had there. Now I wouldn't care if she had just done this for every other part of my face but just the sides? With things to do all day I can't go home and shave, so now I have this goatee and stubble below the jaw line which looks a lot worse than if it were all stubble. By the time I left I looked horrible and felt worse. Before I went in I was chipper, happy and straight up positive about the coming week because every person I met these previous weeks loved my hair including someone I just started dating. I loved my hair. Now I am pissed and want to chop someones head off. My question is, why would you cut so much hair off with out asking if it was to my liking? I mean you can simply cut more hair off if it wasn't, but you can't just add it back on. I do not recommend this place. Spend the extra $5 at a chain barbershop, at least there they don't get all snooty if you don't tip them for a bad cut like this woman did. There are no more classic barbershops where men can get their hair cut like men. read more

This is the only barber that I go to. Like the other reviews. It's only 9 dollars and with tip I usually pay about 13 - 15 depending on how much cash I have on me. I ALWAYS ask for Mike. He's very professional and friendly. I've gotten my hair cut from a couple of the other people there, but they just don't do it as well as Mike. The reason for 4 stars is, I've left happy the majority of times, but sometimes I'm disappointed. However, when I'm there and Mike does my cuts, I always leave very satisfied. He's off I believe wednesday and thursday, and sometimes, I just can't come in any other day so I have to use someone else.
