Today, I did a walk-in knowing that I'd have to wait, but I waited 40 minutes past the 40 minute wait time only to discover that my appointment had been canceled while I sat there. I was not informed. When I confronted the front desk, they weakly stated that they tried calling my name. If they did, they sure didn't try very hard with me sitting directly in plain view. I will not tolerate dishonesty, or wasting my time. I have always tolerated substandard customer service from the front desk at the Columbia Floyd's because the stylists are usually pleasant and efficient. This experience was irritating enough that I will finally commit to looking for a better customer experience and at a more reasonable price. $36 for the very basic men's haircut that I request is also a pain point. read more

Cathy K aka "Headliner" she really needs to change her mission statement. Her experience was terrible. I look like Frankenstein and it's not even October. My mom was a cosmetologist in the 80s and specialized in perms and apparently this woman could not even line up my hair properly she really botched my haircut. I told her I was trying to look like a young professional for a job interview so I don't have to wear a hat. I'm gonna have to wear a hat anyways because of how terrible of a job what she did she charge me an extra $16 for her, waving her wand around my beard when I already came in shaved then kept on trying to upsell me on random items when I just asked for a haircut and maybe lining up my beard, she needs to choose a different industry. I've been to Floyd's a couple times (mainly for my sons) but today I decided to do more than just a normal cut. Went in for a consultation on what I wanted to do with my hair, and Allison was able to squeeze me in later that day! From meeting her, to the entire process of getting my hair done, she was amazing! She definitely made me feel comfortable and we were able to bond over conversation. She has amazing customer service AND she is amazing at her job! I wanted a light, caramel, balayage & she definitely delivered! I'm so happy with how my hair turned out and how SOFT it still feels. Scheduled an appointment at 2:30 today. Arrived and checked in at 2:20. All but one barber decided their time was better suited laughing and cutting up in the back of the store than cutting hair. At 2:45 they finally came out and took every customer but me, so I walked out. I'm in love. I came here for a quick undercut. I called a few hours before and made an appointment. My cut was only $24 (sooo much more reasonable than the ding dang salon). I didn't have to wait, there was no gossip and negative atmosphere. The ambiance is edgy, the staff is polite & professional. The best part of the experience was the complementary shoulder massage. Whaaaaaat!!! A hair cut and a happy ending?! Sign me all the way up. My stylist was awesome. She did a brief consult and was communicative while she worked. She gave me options and ensured I agreed on the work before it was done. I'm really impressed and I'm definitely coming back for my trims. Thanks Jazmine!! This place is really cool. I made a reservation through their site last week for a cut today. It states $26 on their website for a men's cut but it came to $32 for some reason. The decor is awesome. It's all musician based walling and they play music from all different genres. My cut was good and my barber was friendly. I love the fact they wash your hair before a cut and give you a back massage with a machine after your cut. This is definitely my go to place for a haircut going forward. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I come to visit MD every few months and I always get my haircut from Cathy. I recently booked an appointment with her, but about 6-7 hours before my appt I had a family emergency and called to reschedule. The next day, I got a cancellation notice via email. When I called to see why, the receptionist said I have cancelled so many times that Cathy won't accept my appointment anymore and will only do Walk-ins for me. This is completely untrue, Ive only rescheduled with her that one time and now they're penalizing me. Needless to say I will no longer be coming to this or any Floyd's barbershop. They used clippers on my entire head. Thank goodness I asked for a longer cut or I would look like I was about to be shipped off to a military . On Monday, Jan 11, I called the Ellicott City, MD location to make an appointment for my 10-year old daughter to get her first highlights, which was a special Christmas present for her. The timing was tricky because I only have custody of her 50% of the time. During the scheduling call, I was put on hold 5 times, had an incorrect appointment scheduled 3 times, and talked to 3 different team members. Eventually the manager got involved and finally had it handled, with a 2:30pm appointment for Saturday, Jan. 16. On Friday, Jan 15, I got a call from a blocked number. Apparently it was Floyd's at Ellicott City cancelling my daughter's appointment because the stylist was exposed to COVID. But I didn't check my voicemails, b/c it came from a blocked number. I DID however still get an appointment confirmation for the appointment via e-mail, saying the appointment was confirmed, and I got a text appointment on Saturday morning. When I called the Ellicott City branch, Amber informed me she was sorry, but they could reschedule for another day. I said I didn't have another day available for a few weeks. I asked if they could call any other stylists to come in to cover the shift of the person who was exposed - it was unclear if they even tried that, but I was told no. I asked if they could check the database for surrounding stores to see if they had any availability. She said, "I mean, I guess I could call them..." When I realized that this store wasn't going to lift a finger to help remedy a heartbroken 10-year old, my girlfriend and I called other stores. We contacted someone at the Foundry Row/Owings Mills location - I think her name was Sarah - and she sympathized. She said the Owings Mills location didn't have any openings, but she could check surrounding stores (exactly what the Ellicott City store could have and should have done, but didn't). She found an appointment for Sunday, Jan 17 at 10:45am at the Columbia location. We grabbed that appipontment. My daughter was upset, but thankful to the woman at the Foundry Row location. As a family, we completely re-worked our plans for Saturday (since the 2:30pm appointment was NOT happening), and we completely re-worked our plans for Sunday (since the only way to still provide the gift was to hold the Sunday appointment). Now, Sunday morning. We skip church, get ready for an exciting day, load up the car for all the items we'll need for a family gathering later...and at 10:05, I receive another call, from the Columbia location. The stylist who was scheduled to do my daughter's hair at 10:45am has hurt her foot, and I'm sorry, but we must move your appointment to 3pm or 4pm in the afternoon. (I still got confirmation e-mails and confirmation texts for this appointment too). My daughter, not naturally a crier, burst into tears. Here were the statements she made: "We've rearranged our entire weekend twice, and I feel bad for still wanting it." "Are they going to cancel a 3rd time? Am I ever going to get my gift?" "It's so much stress and frustration and last-minute changes, it's not even special anymore." So, between the phone call(s) on Monday, the blocked number Friday, the contradictory confirmation texts Friday/Saturday for the Sat. 2:30pm appointment AND the contradictory confirmation texts Saturday/Sunday for the Sunday appointment...you have a completely devestated 10-year old, a former HUGE fan of Floyd's (prior to this I've gone every two weeks for the past five years), and no more trust that you'll do the right thing. I hope the 3pm appointment works. I was offered a 20% discount...that's 20% for an entire weekend that was completely rescheduled - twice. This is insufficient. Someone please contact me to remedy this situation. It is so far beyond ridiculous why a person at ANOTHER store had to help us reschedule with the original cancellation - why automated texts and e-mails are still sent out even as the appointment is getting cancelled - and why anyone would consider using your services after this debacle. read more

TLDR: avoid if you don't want cuts from poorly maintained equipment. go for Keisha or Cathy and avoid the gentleman at booth #14. Significant differences in quality between stylists. It breaks my heart to leave a negative review to businesses affected by the pandemic, especially when Keisha and Cathy are super nice. But I had the worst haircut in a long long time (bonus was a cut in the back of my neck). They said walk-ins are welcome and they assigned me to a barber who is either giving a haircut for the first time or he is really bad at his job and nobody told him that yet. Hence, I'm leaving this review. His hands are extremely slow and hesitant. He starts working on one side of my head and then gets distracted and works on the beard, which resulted in many mistakes and missing spots that I had to point out to him to fix. His buzzer is not maintained and hurts when he puts it against the skin and left a small mark on the back of my neck. He said it was "irritation". I drove for 30 minutes expecting a pro-- should've stayed home. To be fair, there were two ladies when I was there who were good. They did 2 customers each and had nice results while my dude was figuring out how to give a haircut. Update: I walked back to the store and spoke to the manager, Cathy, who is super sweet and assigned me to a more experienced lady, Keisha, who did her best to fix what the gentleman did. Still, I should've been refunded, my haircut is not stunning after the fixes but acceptable, and it took two hours and some drama, which is not what I hope to get when I get a haircut--hence I'm leaving the two stars. They should have better vetting of their barbers. Update 2: I went home and discovered more irritation/cuts/burns from the poorly maintained equipment (see photos below). Cathy K has been cutting my hair for the last couple years. I was happy with her services, except on 2-3 occasions the barbershop called me to cancel because she was unavailable. Instead of rescheduling, I went to another barber because I needed a haircut. However, I just called to make a booking today and the receptionist told me I could not get an appointment with Cathy K because I had canceled too many times. I don't believe I ever canceled and definitely never had a no-show. However, I am leaving this review to put the shop on notice they lost a good customer (who tips and buys their products) because of bad information. read more

So unprofessional. I made an appointment for 10:30, but when I got there at 10:20 I was told the stylist was running late and that it would be at least another 30 minutes. I asked if I could go walk outside for a bit until she got there and the receptionist said sure. 20 minutes later I get a call that the stylist arrived, so I head back. It takes me about 5 minutes to get back when the receptionist tells me smiling, "Sorry, we had a walk-in. We need to reschedule you. The earliest we have is 12:30." He went in with beautiful long hair and walked out with an uneven, shooooort, chop job fade and ridiculous bangs. I told her to keep it long 3 times. After a negative review via email, She blamed my child for the uneven cut. The reality is, if she had listened and kept it long, I wouldn't be upset over 1" uneven bangs. Not cool at all. Nice little shoulder massage at the end of my haircut But I got a low skin fade. When I tell you the back of my head just has two lines in it. That's all it had. After trying several hair products from Floyds' own brand, I won't be buying another. The pomade I most recently bought cost almost as much as Reuzel but requires three times as much product to achieve a similar hold. It's awful. The label says it's 4 out of 5 for hold but in three times using it, I have used nearly half of the jar. The price is ridiculous for such an inferior product. They will tell you it's the same product for cheaper, but that is an outright lie in at least a few cases. The haircut I got wasn't very good, but I have only been to this location once so far. The woman who cut my hair didn't seem to be listening to what I told her. I don't think she rushed me out of the chair like a lot of stylists do with men, but I definitely hated the cut and I think it looked obviously bad when I got out of the chair. I came in with straightened hair, told her I style my hair straight, and left with a curly Little Richard type of thing and an uneven fade. Luckily I have this truly awful pomade to hide the results. The girl at the front desk was really friendly and inviting, though. The wait wasn't long at all. If I try again and get a better cut I will certainly update my review, but so far I've had better luck at the Ellicott City Floyds. read more

Walked in Saturday around 4:30pm and was greeted by a very unenthusiastic man who looked like jut got up from a long nap. I typically go to Christopher's in Elkridge, which is great, but since Columbia was a little closer to me that day, I headed to Floyd's. I went in around 6pm and waited only a couple of minutes. I was paired up with Janet. She was sweet and kept me at ease. I was a little nervous going to a new place but after chit-chatting with her, I knew she'd take care of my hair. It ended up being one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time. Since this was my first time there, they included a free hairwash and conditioning. Very relaxing. Recently moved to Columbia, and it was time to find a new barbershop. This place was amazing from top to bottom. Great atmosphere and vibe. The staff are so friendly and inviting. So for my first haircut, not only did they give me a free first time shampoo/wash before my haircut, but it wasn't just a normal shampoo and wash.. It is seriously like having a massage.. It was so rejuvenating. During my haircut, I can tell that my stylist took her time (IN A GOOD WAY) to make it as perfect as she could, and it was 110%. AND THAT'S NOT ALL!! Floyds is a cool place, and the people are nice, but I miss Tela. She took me as a walk in one day when she was about to leave and gave me the hottest haircut of my life, just in time for an interview with a well paying company (destroyed that interview btw!). She was the only person in my lifetime who could tame my hair consistently every time, no matter when I came in, or what condition my hair was in. She always greeted me with a smile and was super professional. Our conversations were super meaningful and motivating. It's a shame she's not there anymore.
